and solving its issues such as access to and affordability of care, said Mayo Clinic President and CEO Gianrico Farrugia. Mayo Clinic can be the one to lead the charge, Farrugia said in a presentation Sept. 21 to the World Affairs Council of Jacksonville at The River Club Downtown. “Who we are drives us to seek who we need to become,” he said. “We need to have a commitment that we are going to continue to lead a patientcentered transformation of health care in the digital age.”

Boeing to open training center in West Jacksonville

The Boeing Co. scheduled a ribbon-cutting and open house Sept. 28 for its Boeing Jacksonville Training Systems Center of Excellence in West Jacksonville. The aerospace company developed the 23,000-squarefoot center at 6225 Lake Gray Blvd. Chicago-based Boeing said Sept. 22 that the new virtual maintenance training center for military aircraft, including the U.S. Navy’s P-8 fleet based in Florida, “increases Boeing’s competitive edge while serving the Navy’s mission-ready requirements.” The city issued a permit March 22 for Tenant Contractors Inc. to renovate the space at a cost of $400,000, although at the time Boeing did not announce the functions it will serve. Boeing said that in addition to P-8 and F/A-18 virtual maintenance and engineering simulators, the renovated facility includes four conference rooms and two classrooms. “With this opening, Boeing is

Duval County hotels continue pandemic rebound The hotel business in Northeast Florida continues to recover from the pandemic. Room occupancy in August in Duval County was 66.6%, an increase of 24% compared with August 2020. Statewide occupancy in August was 58.4%. The average room rate was $98.30, the lowest since 2016. Room revenue was nearly $38 million, higher than 2017, 2019 and 2020 and slightly less than August 2018, Visit Jacksonville reports. According to STR, a company that collects national hospitality industry data, year to date, occupancy in Jacksonville is 72.9%, similar to August 2018 and August 2019.
