here’s a reason why Scot Ackerman is the first doctor in the country to bring proton therapy to a physician-owned, private practice setting. The systems aren’t inexpensive, especially for a physician-owned facility, like the Ackerman Cancer Center. Ackerman’s proton therapy system, which opened in 2015, cost $30 million. He plans to add a second machine with pencil beam scanning by 2021. Jacksonville allergist Sunil Joshi said Ackerman’s success as a private practitioner comes from taking risks to get what he feels

Regency Centers Corp. wants to start construction next year on East San Marco, a long-planned shopping center that will feature the area’s first second-story Publix supermarket and will include 35 multifamily residences. T h e Ja c kso nv i l l e - ba se d company intends to develop a 62,000-square-foot retail center at 1532 Atlantic Blvd. to include the estimated 30,000-squarefoot Publix along with shops and restaurants. Publix will occupy the top floor of a two-story building with parking on the first floor and elevators to accommodate shoppers and their carts. There also will be a parking lot. The 4.3-acre East San Marco is bounded by Atlantic Boulevard, Hendricks Avenue and Alford and Arcadia places. It does not include the Wells Fargo bank.
