Garage LLC. Summit maintains a Jacksonville office in EastPark at Town Center. Construction began in August and is anticipated to be completed by mid-December at a development cost of $5.25 million. There will be 30 units of about 1,000 square feet each for sale. Chris Klotz, a Summit representative, said the project is part of a growing trend for people with collectible, muscle and other high-end cars, boats, recreational vehicles and other toys that will not fit into the family garage and are looking to garage ownership facilities. Luxury garages are designed like large self-storage condominium units, with an owner’s lounge comprising a kitchen, bar, race-car simulator, billiards table, restrooms and shower.

There will be 30 units, each about 1,000 square feet.

The facility will be gated and have video security.

The owners lounge will feature a kitchen and billiards.

The renovation and rehabilitation of the former Independent Life building received conceptual approval from the Downtown Development Review Board. St. Augustine-based Augustine Development Group bought the 19-story former Independent Life and Accident Insurance Co. home office building at 233 W. Duval St. Downtown in early October for $3.7 million. Bryan Greiner, president of Augustine Group, said Oct. 10 that his group plans to invest about $28 million into the 64-year-old, 180,000-square-foot building. Plans presented Nov. 14 by Dasher Hurst Architects include 140 market-rate apartments on the second through 18th floors, a grocery store on the 21,000-square-foot ground floor and in the basement, and a rooftop terrace with a pool, a lounge and a sushi and seafood restaurant on the top floor. Savlan plans to invest $4.3 million in improvements, including appliances, kitchen upgrades, common areas, landscaping and a dog park. “Charter Landing’s average rent per unit is currently 30% below market rate.
