The Macon, Georgia, company is changing the name but keeping the 97 employees at the West Jacksonville dealership.

Ernie Palmer Toyota is now Butler Toyota Jacksonville after Macon, Georgia-based Butler Automotive Group acquired the West Jacksonville dealership. Butler Automotive said in a news release it intends to retain Ernie Palmer’s 97 employees, adding them to its workforce of 650. Mark Hammel remains general manager. Ernie Palmer Toyota operates at 1290 Cassat Ave. The dealership succeeded Westside Toyota. The purchase from Ernie Palmer Inc. marks Butler Automotive Group’s entrance into the

North Florida market. “We look forward to integrating into the Jacksonville community and showing our customers how special it is to do business with a family-owned and operated dealership,” said Co-President Marsh Butler in the release. He is co-president with his brother, Morris Butler. They are third-generation owners. “We want Butler Toyota Jacksonville to not only be the preferred dealership to do business with, but to also be the preferred dealership in SEE MATHIS, PAGE 2

The city is reviewing a permit application for construction of Texas Roadhouse at 13130 City Station Drive in River City Marketplace in North Jacksonville. The 7,647-square-foot restaurant is planned on 1.59 acres to replace the closed Logan’s Roadhouse that will be removed. Texas Roadhouse includes a 476-square-foot patio, creating a 8,123-square-foot project. Texas Roadhouse said in September it intends to open in North Jacksonville in fall 2022. Texas Roadhouse Holdings LLC of Louisville, Kentucky, is shown as the developer. Atwell LLC of Marietta, Georgia, is the civil engineer. The chain said the restaurant will employ 220 workers. City records show Logan’s Roadhouse was built in 2011. The restaurant would become the area’s third Texas Roadhouse. The others are in the Town Center area and in Orange Park. A company spokesperson said the support for its Town Center and Orange Park locations and visibility off Interstate 95 prompted it to choose the River City Marketplace site.

Last lot in Gateway Village at Town Center sold Gateway Village at Town Center is sold out. Chris Morgan, co-CEO and founder of Jacksonvillebased developer Cantrell & Morgan Inc., said Dec. 2 that Jacksonville Gateway Village LLC closed a transaction with a group that owns hotels. The LLC, which he leads, sold 2.01 acres to Town Center Hospitality LLC of Jacksonville for $2.6 million. Professional Bank of Coral Gables made a $1.69 million mortgage. The deed and mortgage were made Nov. 30 and recorded Dec. 1 with the Duval County Clerk of Courts. A Town Center Hospitality representative said Dec. 6 the group is deciding on its plans. Gateway Village is an 18.5-acre project at southwest Gate Parkway and Deerwood Park Boulevard., south of Butler Boulevard and St. Johns Town Center.
