Anderson, Boyer likely to lead council
By David Chapman Staff Writer
Elections aren’t over just yet. Current and future City Council members the first of week of June will elect leadership for the 2015-16 year that begins July 1. The results, though, might already be a done deal. Typically, the council vice president the preceding year rises to president after a vote of the 19-member body. That’s Greg Anderson, the AtLarge Group 4 member and a
senior private banking officer for EverBank. And while he has eight letters of support in hand and at least four verbals, he’s Anderson not ready to declare it a done deal. “I’m very confident the election is moving in the right direction,” he said last week. Anderson is hoping to get the rest of the letters
of support back this week. Anderson said he has three priorities heading into next year. The first aligns well with Mayor-elect Lenny Curry and incoming Sheriff Mike Williams: reducing Jacksonville’s crime. Anderson said he’s already met with Williams about supporting “the right level” of officers, though he wouldn’t say what the right level is. Anderson also will continue anti-blight efforts and focus on communities with more incidents of crime. Next on Anderson’s list is
continuing the ongoing effort to put the city in a financially stable model. Reform on pensions, which continues to dent the city’s gen- Boyer eral fund, by July “would be helpful.” “It’s not something you learn quickly,” he said, referring to the 11 incoming members.

Remembering the fallen at wall of honor
Mayor Alvin Brown talks to those who attended the city’s annual Memorial Day observance at the Veterans Memorial Wall on Monday. In a news release, the mayor said the holiday is “a sacred day for all Americans to honor the courageous men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our nation and the freedoms we enjoy.” Five names were added to the more than 1,700 already etched into the wall. By Max Marbut Staff Writer A chance meeting at One Spark has spawned a new Downtown tour venture. Sherry JHill was promoting her project, the Jacksonville Museum and Cultural Center, in the crowdfunding festival when she met Bill Guerrant, owner of EZeventride. He was shuttling festival attendees throughout Downtown aboard one of his street-legal golf carts. Guerrant also uses them during events at the Sports Complex, where he offers complimentary parking lot shuttle service. “As soon as I saw the cart, I knew it would be perfect for Downtown tours,” said JHill.
Zip Tours are rolling along Downtown streets each Friday.

On the financial end, Anderson said he also wanted the city to look at publicly owned properties and try to get them back on the tax rolls and off the city books. Another goal would be to find a way to continue investing in areas like art, libraries and other quality-of-life features. While Anderson’s step up is expected, someone will have to take his spot as vice president. That likely will be Lori Boyer, the District 5 representative and attorney who has been heavily Council... Bundy Baking Solutions, an Urbana, Ohio-based provider of industrial and commercial baking pans, coatings and other equipment, could be the city’s next expansion candidate in the targeted industrial market. Bundy, through BBW LLC, owns vacant industrial land in West Jacksonville that it is considering for development of a 25,000-square-foot plant. It would move from a smaller Westside location, where its Pan Glo business leases space. Engineer William E. Tully III submitted site plans to the city May 14 for the project, planned on 4.5 acres at 1321 Pickettville Road, at Commonwealth Avenue. The property is west of the Interstate 295 West Beltway in one of the area’s historically active industrial areas. The project site is about 9 miles west of 1341 Vega St., where Pan Glo leases a 6,000-square-foot building. A mobility fee calculation certificate was signed April 3. Contractor West Westmoreland, who also is the project’s agent, said Bundy Baking wanted to complete the project by March. A Bundy executive did not return calls for comment. Westmoreland, of Westmoreland Construction LLC, said the project was in the design stage. Site plans show a 25,128-square-foot project, with 1,500 square feet of offices and 23,628 square feet of warehouse space. Plans also show 18 parking spaces as well as a truck-maneuver area. Bundy Baking makes industrial and commercial baking plans, non-stick coatings for baking pans, provides pan cleaning, straightening and coating services, and deals in mixers and other equipment. The bundybakingsolutions.com site outlines the company as comprising American Pan, Chicago Metallic, DuraShield, Pan Glo, RTB and Shaffer. RTB is “intelligent budgeting” for searches for pre-owned equipment, pans and trade-in options. Mathis... Continued on Page A-3
