This conference is in its fourth year in its present format in connection with Walt Disney World and Epcot’s International Flower & Garden Festival and has now expanded to include additional trial sites at both Harry P. Leu Gardens and the UF/IFAS Orange County Extension Service. Proudly, FNGLA has been partnering with the University of Florida trialing floriculture crops and providing industry education for many years.

Verbena ‘EnduraScape Dark Purple’

This new variety verbena hybrid is tougher than previous varieties. Over-Summering: stays in flower longer, takes the heat and tolerates powdery mildew well. Angelonia ‘Archangel Dark Purple’

The biggest blooms: three times larger than other varieties. Its well-branched plants ship with less breakage, shrinkage and tangling. It has a uniform growth habit and flowering time for easy, high-density production and appearance. It thrives in extreme heat, humidity and drought, making it ideal for Florida’s climate. Huge flowers are vibrant against glossy dark green foliage. Excellent landscape performance.

Pelargonium ‘Dynamo Red’

The ultimate zonal geranium for garden beds with big, bright flowers and crisp, medium green foliage. They do well in large containers, too! Allow this plant to dry-out slightly between waterings & deadhead regularly for best landscape performance.

Solenostemon ‘Coleosaurus’

A full-sun, late summer, upright coleus with a new texture to add to the landscape. Its brightly colored vibrant, dark red and lime green leaves makes this coleus a standout variety in the landscape. Petunia ‘Pretty Grand Coral Improved’

‘Pretty Grand’ petunias make tidier baskets than traditional petunias. It has a shorter, more controlled plant structure compared with traditional petunias. This controlled growth collection needs fewer to no PGRs and is suitable for cold growing. Better branching with improved airflow assures less chance of disease, especially Botrytis, for better shelf life at retail and less waste. The tight bloom window across each series lets you ship and/or display all colors at the same time. With enhanced, longer performance in beds and landscapes, the plants hold together and don’t lodge later in the season like traditional petunias can.

Caladium ‘Cherry Tart’

Rose pink with green margins, compact strap variety makes a great 4” and larger pot with or without de-eyeing. ‘Cherry Tart’ also makes a great basket. In the landscape or in combination patio planters, ‘Cherry Tart’ is useful as a border plant tolerating up to 8 hours of morning sun. A University of Florida release.

Caladium ‘Wildfire’

This is a fancy-leaf caladium with a bright red center, white veins, and a speckled green border. ‘Wildfire’ makes an excellent potted plant and looks great in full sun landscape conditions adding a great pop of color and whimsy to any landscape.

Caladium ‘Carolyn Whorton’

A lovely pink variety that can be a caladium staple in many gardens ‘Carolyn Whorton’ works well in shade to partial shade and is sun tolerant. Grows 18” - 24” tall. This is a fancy-leafed caladium with vivid pink hearts and red veins which also features bold speckles of white and a wide, green edge. Its colors and textures abound!

Caladium ‘Leprechaun’

A lance-leaf caladium with varying hues of green, ‘Leprechan’ reaches 12” - 18” tall and is ideal for baskets or as a front-row planting. Its inner light green color is offset by the darker band of green.

Caladium ‘Hot Pink’

Caladium ‘Frog in a Blender’

This 18” - 22” mature-height caladium has large heart-shaped leaves and grows well with morning sun and filtered afternoon shade. Its chartreuse appearance off-sets the dark green hues of many landscapes and its splotchy pattern adds texture and interest.

An exclusive variety from Bates Sons & Daughters. This caladium is a fancy-leaf variety with hot pink centers bordered with a green edge. It will maintain the neon pink color in full sun and will grow to 18“. It makes an excellent potted plant and looks great in full sun landscape conditions adding a great pop of color and whimsy texture to any landscape.

Caladium ‘Garden White’

‘Garden White’ has creamy white leaves in the center and pronounced green netting on the borders which are rimmed in dark green. Lightly frilly leaves are translucent, thin and average 8”-10”, but can reach 24” tall when mature. In the sun or partial shade, ‘Garden White’ is a vigorous fast-growing caladium and makes a great border or potted plant. Trialed at Harry P. Leu Gardens only.

Caladium ‘Fannie Munson ’

A fancy-leafed, late blooming variety of caladium, its pink leaves show dark pink veins and green edges. The plant’s mature extreme texture make this very distinguishable in the landscape and adds a nice pop of color. Trialed at Harry P. Leu Gardens only.

Caladium ‘Pink Symphony’

‘Pink Symphony’ is a lance-leaf caladium. ‘Pink Symphony’ can show a wide range of pink color. Plant this variety in shade for a more vibrant, bright pink and in full sun for a subdued pink color. The veins offset the pink with their green color. A medium leaf caladium, the plant reaches 12” - 18” tall. ‘Pink Symphony’ caladiums work well in baskets or as a front row planting. Caladium ‘White Butterfly’

A creamy white strap leaf caladium. It is short with many leaves. ‘White Butterfly’ performs well in small pots or hanging baskets. It has many uses in the landscape, yet it looks best in shady conditions as a border. Trialed at Harry P. Leu Gardens only.

Begonia benariensis ‘BIG Rose Bronze Leaf’ & Begonia benariensis ‘BIG Red Bronze Leaf’

Extraordinarily different, this prolific bloomer has extremely large flowers (8 cm) all season and thrives in all climates in full sun or shade. It finishes two weeks earlier for faster turns and higher profits and has an excellent germination rate. The varieties are distinctively bronze leaved or green leaved with varying reddish hues. Celosia plumosa ‘Fresh Look Gold’

‘Fresh Look Gold’ plants have bright golden plumes that remain colorful all season, not “browning” with maturity. Since the plumes remain attractive, there is no reason to deadhead and no pest problems are anticipated. ‘Fresh Look Gold’ needs little maintenance in a sunny garden. It is an annual useful in formal or informal gardens and has proved to be heat, humidity and rain tolerant in trials across North America. This celosia is one of the best annuals for season-long performance.

Pentas lanceolata ‘Northern Lights® Lavender’

Ideal for large containers, garden specimens and mass landscape plantings, ‘Northern Lights’ has large, open flower clusters which are self cleaning, providing continuous color throughout the summer. It is less pH sensitive and continues to grow and flower under cooler temperatures.

‘Bombshell’ is a beautiful, intense red-colored fancy-leaved caladium variety with deep almost blue green margins. Bombshell has good habit without de-eyeing though its habit is improved with de-eyeing. ‘Bombshell’ can stand full sun and is a colorful accent for the landscape, ideal for garden beds and mixed containers.

Caladium ‘Party Punch’

This new & distinct caladium has been 7 years in the making and offers some pretty new eye candy for landscapes. The deep pink veins stand out on a lively green leaf speckled with accenting white-colored spots surrounded with dark green-colored borders literally brightening any shade garden.

Caladium ‘Sangria’

Caladium Sangria, as its name implies, is a rich red strap, lance-leaf variety. introduced in 2013, ‘Sangria’ is tolerant of full sun conditions and works well in the landscape as a short to intermediate variety. ‘Sangria’ is useful in 4” and larger pots, baskets and combination planters.

Caladium ‘Rio Red’

Resembling a slice of watermelon, ‘Rio Red’ is sure to recall pleasant summer picnics. This new strap-leaf variety is the deepest red of any caladium variety and makes beautiful rivers of red in the landscape and is suitable for pot sizes 4” and up including baskets and combination patio planters. De-eyeing improves habit in smaller pots. ‘Rio Red’ is sun tolerant and has black petioles (stems).

Caladium ‘Scarlet Flame’

‘Scarlet Flame’ is a strap-leaf variety caladium similar to the classic variety ‘Lance Whorton,’ however ‘Scarlet Flame’ has a great container habit, something ‘Lance Whorton’ never had. ‘Scarlet Flame’ is super in 4” and larger pots and makes a very nice basket. Best used In combination patio planters or landscape, ‘Scarlet Flame’ is useful as a border and will tolerate full sun.

Caladium ‘Sweet Carolina’

‘Sweet Carolina’ is a fancy-leaf variety with a mottled light (chartreuse) and dark green background with bright pink spots. An ideal center plant for a large patio or combination planter. ‘Sweet Carolina’s real strength lies in its use in the landscape as it can take full sun and reaches heights of more than 36”. In full sun, the light green background intensifies to a bright chartreuse.

Caladium ‘White Cap’

Caladium ‘White Cap’ is a white fancyleaf introduction (2012) having white veins and ‘White Christmas’ type white windows, and green margins. ‘White Cap’ is similar to the variety ‘Florida Blizzard’ but has proved more reliable in production. ‘White Cap’ is intermediate to tall in height and upright in habit. It should be de-eyed for pot production in sizes 6” - 10”. It sprouts and finishes quickly. In the landscape, this plant prefers partial-sun to shady locations. This plant has won various accolades from trial programs.

Caladium ‘White Majesty’

By far the largest white strap variety on the market. ‘White Majesty’ is best in pots 6” and larger and super in combination patio planters. ‘White Majesty’ also lends itself well to the landscape being intermediate in stature and tolerating full sun. Its white leaves contrast well with its black petioles (stems). ‘White Majesty’ is excellent in combination or patio containers.

Angelonia ‘Actors Purple’

The improved Angelonia ‘Actors’ series boast very larger flowers compared to the previous series. The plant habit is compact and has a slight vase shaped growth pattern which is ideal for the landscape and they will not lodge and break open. ‘Actors’ also have a glossy sheen to the foliage which creates a nice contrast against the color of the flowers. In many grower trials across the country this summer, Angelonia ‘Actors’ have proven they are excellent “performers” in containers and ground beds. ‘Actors Purple’ is the darkest flower color in the series with a white eye. Garden height is 10 to 12 inches with an 8 to 10 inch width. Also trialed in the Actors series are:

Petunia ‘Blanket Violet’

Petunia Blanket® varieties are exceptional in baskets, containers and in the landscape. They continue to flower under all environmental conditions. The new introductions for 2014/15 are early to flower and possess larger flowers. Violet-purple flowers with a white center cover the plant until frost. Also trialed in the Blanket series are:

Petunia ‘Blanket Rose Star’

Vivid rose star-centered blooms with clean white margins.

Petunia ‘Blanket Yellow’

Blanket® Yellow has a perfectly mounded plant habit with a robust yellow flower.

Petunia ‘Blanket Red’

Blanket® Red has a rich red color with a complimentary white eye.

Scaevola ‘Scampi Blue’ and Scaevola ‘Scampi White’

Scaevola ‘Scampi Blue’ and ‘Scampi White’ are compact plants that are suitable in the landscape as well as mixed containers. They perform well in sun and shade. Allow soil to dry between irrigations for best performance in containers or in the garden. Yellowing may occur if soil is constantly wet. Scaevola flourish in warm conditions and are drought tolerant. Maintain high to medium-high light levels. A soft pinch once the plants are well established is important to create a well-branched plant early. A second pinch will help maintain quality plants during long growing cycles.

Salvia ‘Cathedral Purple’

Propagated vegetatively, the Cathedral series of Salvia from Greenfuse/Michelle’s are best grown in 4” to 12” containers and has a more compact growth habit than previous series of salvia. They also finish quickly. 12” to 18” tall, the variety grows 12” to 16” wide. Pinch after transplant to help create a quality plant. Also trialed in the Cathedral series are:

Celosia pumosa ‘Dark Red’

Heat and drought tolerant. Height: 16”-18” by 12” spread. This celosia’s feathery flower is a deep, dark red hue.

Gomphrena ‘Purple Globe Amaranth’ A bushy, hairy-leaved annual, ‘Globe Amaranth’ bears round purple flower bracts on thick stems in summer and early fall. This plant is useful as summer bedding or in a border or cutting garden. It is fairly drought tolerant and very heat tolerant. It grows to about 2 feet tall.

Ocimum ‘Patio Tasty Rascal’

Flowers in profusion with lavender spikes. Perfect in patio combination planters.

Petunia ‘Bet Yet’

New series with the best of traits of normal Floribunda and the great traits of trailing types. Fantastic in the garden or landscape. They are simply the BEST Petunia YET!

Salvia ‘High Gro Purple’

Big, bold color for mass plantings. ‘High Gro Purple’ has long blooming seasoncontinuous color. Large plants provide “curb appeal” for commercial gardens.

Tagetes ‘Ameri French Daisy’

This new class of marigolds combines the garden performance and early flowering of French types with the very large flowers and strong plant structure of African types. The result is the best garden performing Marigold on the planet. Daylight neutral and continuous flowering.


Ageratum ‘Aloha White’

‘Aloha White’ is early-to-flower and suited for growing in packs and in 4” pots. It is an excellent type for mass production. The strong vigor in the garden makes Aloha Blue an excellent garden performer.

Ageratum ‘Blue Planet’

‘Blue Planet’ grows tall with attractive large flowers. It grows up to about 20” forming strong sturdy stems with numerous branches. This variety shows flower power in the garden, is very suitable for landscaping purposes and is also an outstanding ageratum for cut flower production. Low-energy crop, which can be produced indoors as well as outdoors.

Antirrhinum ‘Snappy Red Flame’

Antirrhinum ‘Snappy Red Flame’ flowers very early on compact strongly branching plants. As a result of this branching habit, it stretches less than other dwarf Antirrhinums. The bloom time is extremely uniform across the color range as compared to other series in the market.

Antirrhinum ‘Twinny Peach’

‘Twinny Peach’ is a new double-flowered Antirrhinum. It is the first double flowered F1 hybrid dwarf Antirrhinum series on the market. This plant is recommended for 4” - 5” pots and large containers. Its tolerance to hot and wet weather conditions results into an exceptional garden performance. ‘Twinny Peach’ is an All America Selections Winner.

Rhodochiton ‘Rhodos’

The exotic bell shaped flowers of ‘Rhodos’ have a deep calyx with a maroon (purplish brown) tubular flower. ‘Rhodos’ has smoothly textured evergreen foliage. This rapidly growing climber will flower abundantly throughout summer and can grow to a height of 10-13 ft. and a width of 6 ft. It is an excellent patio plant and an attractive climber.

Pelargonium ‘Apache Red’ & Pelargonium ‘Apache Star’

‘Apache’ is early flowering and its branching is extremely basal. ‘Apache’ is vigorous yet compact in growth and develops a profusion of large flowers on compact plants. ‘Apache’ has the best features of both multiflora and standard geraniums and will outperform most seed-raised geraniums currently available. It grows well in plugs, packs and pots.

Salvia ‘Amore Rose Bicolor’ & Salvia ‘Amore Salmon’

This series is compact in packs and pots and shows much growing power in the garden. ‘Amore’ flowers early and uniform and its blooms densely cover the spikes, creating a very floriferous effect. The flowers of this day length neutral series are carried well above its green foliage and the series has a wide range of color options.

Salvia ‘Red Alert’

The fiery scarlet ‘Red Alert’ shows much growing power in the garden, which makes it an excellent variety for landscaping. The flowers of this day length neutral salvia are carried well above its dark green foliage. ‘Red Alert’ performs well in full sun and partial shade. The flower color is very intense and leaves are a dark green.

Coreopsis ‘Sun Up’

‘Sun Up’ is more naturally compact than earlier varieties. It produces semi-double, clear yellow flowers all Summer long. The brightest yellow coreopsis gets Spring sales off to a strong start. ‘Sun Up’ has excellent heat and drought tolerance once established. Tough plant and bright golden yellow flowers provide consumers a solution for full sun exposure locations. Coreopsis flowers earlier under long days. Provide night interruption lighting when grown under short days. Maintain even moisture. Avoid excessive wetness for best performance in the landscape.

Pennisetum ‘First Knight’

Upright growth habit, broad leaves and rich, dark burgundy color make ‘First Knight’ an outstanding new addition to the Princess grasses. Excellent for bold summer color in the landscape or container gardens, ‘First Knight’ will impress both the commercial grower and consumer. Very fast growing and trouble free. Pennisetum ‘Princess Caroline’

This beautiful ornamental grass from the breeding program of Dr. Wayne Hannah at the University of Georgia, has broad, deep burgundy foliage with an upright cascading growth habit making ‘Princess Caroline’ a must have for bold summer color. It is a very fast grower and has the added plus of being trouble free. Princess Caroline’ is a great variety to add instant impact for landscaping or for your patio, can be used in groupings, in accent containers or as a single specimen. Pennisetum ‘Princess Molly’

A beautiful ornamental grass from the breeding program of Dr. Wayne Hannah at the University of Georgia, ‘Princess Molly’ forms a cascading mound of multicolor foliage. Under full sun conditions, the burgundy color is dominant with noticeable light green centers. With shade the leaves are green with purple overtones and striping. Fast growing, trouble free ornamental grass that has an instant impact on any landscape or patio. Can be used as a single specimen, in groupings or as an accent container plant. Antirrhinum ‘Snapshot Sunset’

‘Snapshot Sunset’ maintains its bright yellow color in cool environments better than ‘Snappy Red Flame’ or ‘Montego Sunset.’ This plnat delivers a perfect balance of pack performance and landscape success. Its bushy, compact plants are topped by closely spaced, full flower spikes.

Catharanthus ‘Titan Lilac Improved’

‘Titan Lilac Improvied’ flowers up to 2 weeks faster than other varieties, with up to 50% larger blooms in cooler temperatures. The most uniform F1 vinca series on the market with all the top-selling colors. Robust plants have superior branching. The new ‘Tital Lilac Improved’ improves color continuity.

Dianthus ‘Dash Crimson’ & Dianthus ‘Dash Magician’

Mandevilla ‘Sun Parasol Garden Crimson’

Sun Parasol® Garden Crimson is the beginning of an exciting new series of mandevilla hybrids from Suntory® Collection. The first bedding plant mandevillas are naturally compact and look exquisite in planted landscapes. They are typically bred in 4” pots. They are known for ease of growing and higher disease resistance.

Mandevilla ‘Sun Parasol White Original’

The Original Group has a habit with compact growth, which is upright with good basal branching. They are natural climbers with glossy green foliage, neat and excellent garden performance. Suitable for use as a patio, hanging, balcony, bedding and house plant.

Caladium ‘Cranberry Star’

A light, bright caladium with dark green veins and reddish splotches throughout: Combines beautifully with many others; 6” 12”. It is slower to sprout and finish than many of the fancy varieties but worth the wait. In the landscape, ‘Cranberry Star’ prefers partial-sun to shady locations.

Caladium ‘Fairytale Princess’

‘Fairytale Princess’ has exceptionally bright deep pink foliage with dark green margin. This strap variety makes a great 4” and larger pot with or without de-eyeing. ‘Fairytale Princess’ makes a great hanging basket. In the landscape or in combination patio planters, ‘Fairytale Princess’ is useful as a border or intermediate plant tolerating up to 8 hours of morning sun.

Caladium ‘Redhot’

This deep red with dark green margin, this compact strap variety makes a great 4” and larger pot with or without de-eyeing. ‘Redhot’ is often shiny in appearance. Redhot also makes a great hanging basket. In the landscape or in combination patio planters, ‘Redhot’ is useful as a border plant tolerating full sun conditions.

Caladium ‘Royal Flush’

A deep red fancy-leaf caladium with red veins and a green border, this variety has many leaves and makes a very full pot. It performs well in the landscape and is tolerant of full sun or shade conditions.

Caladium ‘Summer Pink’

‘Summer Pink’ caladium has lovely pink main veins with the blush of a white center and makes this a pretty picture for any landscape. It favors morning sun to partial shade and has reddish pink mid-veins and green margins.

Caladium ‘Tapestry’

With its green veins and rose patches, this aptly named caladium has big, happy, eye-catching foliage. It is predominately white with striking red veins and green blotches. It grows well in filtered shade or afternoon shade with morning sun.

Solenostemon ‘Mainstreet Broadway’

The Mainstreet Coleus series is an herbaceous evergreen annual bedding plant with an upright spreading habit of growth. Its medium texture blends into the garden, but can always be balanced with a couple of finer or coarser plants for an effective composition. A relatively low maintenance annual bedding plant, the flowers may actually detract from its ornamental features, so they can be removed as they appear. Coleus is recommended for the container planting, border edging, mass plantings, and hanging baskets. UF has partnered with Dummen to develop this plant series. Solenostemon ‘Red Head’

Our most popular variety to date, ‘Red Head’ has bright red leaves that are the truest red color in our collection. ‘Red Head’ has a mounded, upright habit that does best in partial sun. It has vigour and is a versatile plant ideal for landscape and containers. UF has partnered with Ball Horticulture to develop this plant.

Ruellia ‘Mayan Purple’; Ruellia ‘Mayan White’; and, Ruellia ‘Mayan Pink’

These new Ruellia simplex cultivars are characterized by excellent performance in both full sun and partial shade environments. Prolific flowering, large violet flowers, large white flowers, or medium pink flowers. Violet and white are fruitless, while pink sets very low number of fruits and seeds are not viable. The Mayan series ruellia cultivars are expected to have excellent landscape performance and are non-invasive by seed dispersal.
