Our history dates back to 1979, when we opened the first Fogo de Chão in Porto Alegre, Brazil. But we can trace our heritage back centuries, back to the time when churrasco began.
Churrasco is a traditional Brazilian way of grilling over an open flame, a technique that was perfected by generations of ranchers, butchers and chefs. These gauchos used simple seasoning and protein-rich meats to feed and celebrate their friends and families.
At Fogo de Chão, we infuse the tradition of churrasco into everything we do. Our simple recipes, our slow-cooking methods, and even our continuous service are inspired by the gauchos who came before us.
