Introducing

CAT INSPECT ®

Cat Inspect is a new mobile and web-based app that provides you with a convenient tool to produce paperless, consistent machine inspections. The app is available for both Apple and Android systems. It will assist you in several types of inspections including Technical Analysis inspections (TA-1), Preventive Maintenance checklists (PM) and select mining forms. The easy-to-use application lets you download and complete inspections as well as add pictures, comments and ratings. The PM checklists are serial number specific to perform PM Service intervals as recommended in the Caterpillar Operation and Maintenance Manual.

CAT INSPECT OFFERS THESE BENEFITS: • Same step-by-step, look and feel for all inspections • Eliminates the need for paper • Provides the ability to perform the inspection off-line • Completed inspections can be distributed back to Foley while onsite • Reports can be emailed via PDF electronically • Notes can be typed or dictated depending upon the device capabilities • Pictures can be attached to reports • Completed inspections can be imported into your business system via an API feed

Hollan not only manages the business, he’s running equipment. Hollon has been running Cat ® since 1993 and sees the value in running Cat across his fleet of Track Type Loaders. Hollon’s hands-on approach includes a maintenance crew for routine service and repairs. If the repair job goes beyond their time or ability to handle, Hollon turns to Foley Product Support rep, Jason Duxbury, for advice about how best to move forward in the most cost-effective manner. Hollon utilizes Foley Custom Track Service, (CTS), to regularly evaluate the undercarriage on higher hour machines. This serves Hollon two ways. The first is to offer a line of site on what needs immediate attention and what can wait. Second, CTS allows Hollon to budget the time and expense in advance to minimize any unexpected downtime due to unexpected undercarriage failures. Foley is able to suggest maintenance strategies based on the life-cycle of the entire fleet of Cat Track Loaders. Managing equipment and maintenance across the fleet delivers a balanced approach to equipment investment for Kevin Hollon Excavating.

The Bottom Line Alan’s Excavating runs many different Cat machines which is indicative of their broad capabilities, handling projects as diverse as a Walmart Supercenter to a small pond excavation for a local farmer. As with many family businesses, Alan’s takes a hands-on approach to the day-to-day management and operations, including regular decisions on maintenance, repairs and long term fleet management. Alan’s has some internal maintenance capabilities, but when there’s dirt to be moved on a project, their crews are generating revenue by running equipment instead of servicing it. That’s where Foley’s Product Support team steps in to assess and recommend solutions. You’ll find Foley offering technical advice and helping sort through maintenance issues in Alan’s shop, Foley’s shop or in the field. Foley’s involvement with fleet management starts with assistance on machine purchase decisions, whether new or used. Alan’s broad fleet of equipment is matched by Foley’s broad range of maintenance solutions. This includes OEM parts delivered to a nearby Drop Box, Cat and competitive hydraulic component rebuilds and undercarriage inspections. Foley Truck Service performs engine overhauls for haul trucks that pull double-duty hauling machines or freshly harvested wheat or corn from a sizable crop and livestock operation.

At the startup of the new season, Randy Jordan, (Paving Specialist – Topeka), is present to make certain everything goes smoothly and can be counted on when the “road gets rough” and Superior Bowen is looking for specialized technical support as the season progresses. Foley coordinates an annual, off-season Paver Rebuild program to optimize uptime and parts costs. Foley also worked with Superior Bowen to analyze and compare non-Cat ® parts purchases. This lead to the eventual replacement of a parts inventory purchasing system managed by a national retail chain. Foley replaced this with a process that delivers Cat ® quality parts and allows Superior Bowen to take advantage of money-saving discounts available through Foley and Caterpillar.

The Bottom Line Foley helps Savage serve their refinery customers in Coffeyville and El Dorado, Kansas. While Savage runs and Foley services a broad family of machines, the majority are Wheel Loaders used to handle petroleum coke, a refining byproduct. Foley’s working relationship with Savage varies from the El Dorado and Coffeyville plants based on the individual needs of each facility. Foley’s relationship with Savage began with the acquisition of new machines and repairing machines as needed. While Foley continues to contribute on both new and used sales, it is driven by the bigger picture of life cycle fleet management, extending the productive life of each machine and the entire fleet. In El Dorado, Savage team members work hand-in-hand with Foley Product Support and Parts representatives on many day-to-day issues, including performing preventive maintenance, pulling fluid samples for testing and offering repair options that meet equipment and budgetary requirements on large and small repairs. Foley deployed an Equipment Management Solutions program for Savage’s Cat equipment at the Coffeyville refinery to monitor machine utilization and operating status remotely. Foley performs routine maintenance and inspections in accordance with Foley Maintenance Plans. Repair options include Certified Power Train (CPT) and component rebuilds. Foley has done CPTs on five machines for Savage. CPT rehabilitation offers likenew performance, restoring the power train to original Cat specifications and performance, and includes a new warranty.
