CUSTOMER PROFILE
Hold 'Em Fence Good fences make a good business. Good relationships make it even better.
If you want to talk to Yachal Benedick, you need to get up early or stay up late because he’s always on the move. Yachal (pronounced yaw-chal’) is Hebrew meaning to wait, hope or linger in expectation. None of these definitions fit. Quite simply, Yachal Benedick has been running nonstop since 1999 with a seat-of-the-pants sensibility — keeping promises coupled with a fundamental belief in the value of loyalty and relationships.

Permit No. 68 Wichita, KS
PRSRT STD U.S. Postage
One thing leads to another. Benedick grew up a home-schooled, farm boy near Fostoria, Kansas. A local rancher asked if he’d be interested in stringing some barbed wire. What Benedick knew and loved was farming not fencing. While not especially interesting to him, the $10 per hour was. Fourteen years after that first job, Benedick
and his company have built fences in nearly every state west of the Mississippi including many miles of fencing in the public sector, work that started with a job for the University of Nebraska. Eventually Hold ‘Em Fence became a government contractor which led to a series of high profile projects for the National Forest Service and U.S. Wildlife and Parks, including big game containment in Colorado’s Estes Park in 2008. “My path to success has been pretty straight forward; I built the business by keeping promises to my customers. Customers remember that, come back time-and-again because they trust us and refer us to others,” Benedick explained. Benedick has quit doing government work. “Today, the business is a near 50/50 split between stringin’ fence and building pens for feeders and dairies. The pen and livestock working facilities are interesting…all the gates controlling the flow of livestock make it challenging.” To support his operation, Benedick’s current Cat® machine population includes two - 299DXPs, 289C2 and 262C2 skid steer loaders along with a 307C mini excavator. Benedick carries extended warranties on several of the machines. Specific to the fence building business, Hold ‘Em runs three A-26B auger drives, two Virnig Rotary Brushcutters and two 185CFM Sullair air compressors. You’ll also find Cat® engines under the hood of Hold ‘Em’s haul trucks.

Relationships matter. “We wouldn’t be where we are today without valuable, solid relationships,” Benedick said. This includes a trusted relationship with his business associate, Stephen Mueting. “Stephen is the most trustworthy person I’ve met. Without his dedication and ingenuity, we wouldn’t have amounted to much.” “My relationship with Foley is another critical success factor in our business,” Benedick continued. “It starts with Joe Wilken (Foley Compact Construction sales rep). Joe is honest and incredibly knowledgeable. He understands the machines and attachments but more importantly, understands how that machine, attachment or service helps me to be more efficient and profitable. He understands my business.” “No other dealer does parts and service

No one has the ability to put parts so close to my job site like Foley can through their network of parts drop boxes,” Benedick said. “And field service and consultation is just a phone call away. I can call John Debusk (Manhattan shop manager) at 8:00 in the evening and he’ll say ‘What can we do for you?’” “In the end, you can be good at math or mechanics and/or medicine but you accomplish nothing without good relationships with people you trust. CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT
Caterpillar Introduces New Medium Hydraulic Excavators Working with heavy equipment in dense metropolitan areas comes with a unique set of challenges. Luckily for operators working with the 321D LCR and 328D LCR mid-size hydraulic excavators, those challenges are made a little easier with the help of a tight turning radius that enables them to navigate the narrow spaces that define the city landscape. Both models are part of the compact radius (CR) excavator lineup designed to provide high maneuverability while meeting today’s increasing productivity standards. The Cat® 321
features a tail swing of 1.68 m with a cylindrical upper frame and operator station. The larger Cat® 328D LCR has a tail swing radius of 1.9 m – still small when compared to the 3.09 m radius on the standard Cat® 329E L. With minimal counterweight extending beyond the tracks, operators can feel more confident in completing their tasks safely and efficiently. Plus, hauling the equipment between job sites becomes easier as the turret does not hang outside the lane in which the vehicle is traveling. Powered by ACERT™ Technology, the 321D and 328D were built using high performance and fuel efficiency standards. The 321D features 148 hp net flywheel power while the 328 features 204 hp net flywheel power. These performance-minded yet fuel-efficient models meet today’s productivity demands while meeting U.S. EPA Tier 3 emission regulations. ACERT Technology optimizes engine performance through innovative fuel delivery, air management and electronic controls. The engine management system provides flexible fuel mapping, which enables the engine to respond quickly to changes in application. The system also tracks engine and machine conditions to ensure the engine maintains peak operating efficiency. These features also combine to reduce fuel costs while improving work output. The Cat® hydraulics system on the 321D and 328D models deliver power and control to keep
operations going. Because the main pumps, control valves and hydraulic tank are located close together, and therefore require shorter tubes, the friction loss and pressure drops that cause other hydraulic systems to fail are reduced. And, the hydraulic cross-sensing system uses two hydraulic pumps at 100 percent engine power under all operating conditions. That means faster implement speeds and quicker, stronger pivot turns. An auxiliary valve also comes standard on both excavators. Control circuits are available as attachments, allowing for operation of tools including shears, grapples, hammers, pulverizers, multi-processors and vibratory plate compactors. The 321D features the addition of a heavy lift, which increases system pressure to 5220 psi, giving it more lift capacity over the front. The Cat® 328D also has more lift capacity over the front, but uses the undercarriage of a 336D L, which provides greater stability. Other technology innovations included on the 321D and 328D are designed to assist the operator make more precise moves while ensuring the safety of their daily work
environment. Each unit comes equipped with a full color LCD monitor programmable in multiple languages and helps increase visibility for the operator. An ergonomic joystick control reduces risk of wrist and arm fatigue. And, a robust climate control system and noise reduction measures also keep the cab comfortable and quiet so operators can focus on the task at hand. The Cat® 321 and Cat® 328D feature the quality, reliability and durability Foley Equipment customers require from their Cat® equipment investments. Cat® excavators are built with a solid foundation made to withstand stress from daily use. Robotic welds, roller bearings and a long undercarriage are some of the unique innovations that make Cat® excavators stand the test of time. Plus, customer support and services offered from Foley Equipment help customers operate their equipment longer with lower total cost of ownership. Local dealers such as Foley Equipment help reduce machine downtime by stocking almost any part, and by offering preventive maintenance and on-site repair services.

COMPACT CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT
New D-Series Skid Steers Bringing the Best of the Biggest to Mid-range Loaders Why is Caterpillar at the top of the heap when it comes to farm and industrial equipment? Maybe it's because we keep taking our industry-standard products and making them better. Caterpillar is introducing the D-Series Skid Steer, Multi-terrain and Compact Track Loaders, (SSLs, MTLs and CTLs), and they're coming to a Foley store near you this fall. The new D Series take many of the best features of its larger models and makes them available – and affordable – in the smaller machines. The new lineup includes: SSLs – 236D, 242D, 246D and 262D CTLs – 259D, 279D and 289D MTLs – 257D, 277D and 287D Building on the success of the B3, C and C2 Series and their reputation for quality performance, this series upgrade brings a newly designed operator's station, new lift arm styling and industry-pacesetting control features. These machines will set a higher standard for control and comfort in the midrange machine size classes, and they carry on the Cat® tradition of raising the bar when it comes to performance, reliability and costeffective operation. At the core of all D-Series machines is the
Cat C3.3B electronically controlled engine, which features increased performance in engine torque and fuel economy compared to the previous C3.4 engine. The improved engine air cleaner intake location, vented rear door (for improved air flow) and pre-cleaner kit for engine air filter (dealer installed) are strong new features. Relying on technologies such as a highpressure common rail fuel system, cooled EGR and DOC/Diesel Particulate Filter aftertreatment, the 3.3B engine conforms to EPA Tier 4 interim emissions standards while providing an approximately 6 percent improvement in fuel efficiency. The new lift arm design means cleaner routing of the hydraulic lines and better protection for hoses, plus improved side visibility, especially to tracks and tires. Features you won't find anywhere else The D-Series introduces a number of industry-exclusive security features, including a standard display with a single operator-code security system. If you need multiple operators for your machines, you can opt for up to 50 individual operator/security codes, with each code retaining its own operator preferences and settings. A 5-inch heads-up display with video capability is available. You can kick up a notch further with an advanced display that provides on-screen adjustment capabilities for creep setting, ride control activation speed and top speed limit setting. You can get that in four backgrounds, a choice of four gauge styles (including a nighttime/indoor selection) and six different languages. You guessed it, all industry exclusives!
The electro-hydraulic control system includes these new features: • Straight-line tracking. • Intelligent Throttle Control, which features decel pedal/throttle smoothing. • The Cat Intelligent Leveling™ system. It offers Electronic Dual Self-Level (which levels the load in both raise and lower directions, using E-Snubbing to ensure it happens smoothly) and the Return to Dig & Work Tool Positioner Feature. In addition, the ILEV 's Return to Dig and Work Tool Positioning features increase productivity by allowing the operator to return the work tool to the preset angle quickly and efficiently, even if the loader has been repositioned. This reduces cycle time. • Speed-sensitive ride control (another industry exclusive).
rear-view camera is available on D-Series models, and they are standard equipment on the 272D XHP and 299D XHP. In case you were wondering, yes, this is yet another industry exclusive. Foley is hosting special events at many of its stores this fall so look for more information.
More cab comfort and convenience You'll like the operator’s station. There are several comfort packages which give you options for cab design, seat, throttle placement, radio and in-cab display. Improved cab sealing provides a better-pressurized environment with improved airflow. You'll have better visibility from your cloth or vinyl high-backed, heated air ride seats (another industry exclusive) as you couple to a variety of work tools. There's a cell phone storage area near a 12volt outlet. An advanced display with
Foley Hosts Invasive Tree & Weed Field Day Foley hosted an invasive tree and weed control field day event at Pottawattamie County State Park Saturday, August 17. The goal of a Foley field day is to engage and educate customers on a particular subject. This particular event provided information about invasive trees and weeds, a problem that many land owners face in an effort to reclaim pastureland. Attendees gathered for informational presentations in the morning by Pottawattamie County Weed Control, Natural Resources Conservation Service, Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks and Kansas State University. The presentations included the history and scope of the problem and different approaches to managing it including chemical and removal.
Representatives from Kansas State and the Kansas Forest Service brought some special “toys” – drones used to map the extent of the invasive tree problem…and opportunity. Through some mathematical calculations, the biomass of the trees can be estimated for their biofuel energy potential, a developing industry. Foley Compact Construction Equipment sales personnel were on hand to feed attendees a hamburger and hot dog lunch followed by tree removal equipment demonstrations in the afternoon. Around 90 people showed up for the event…an outstanding turnout and a great day.
Joe Wilken, CCE Sales Rep – Manhattan, gives attendees the rundown on the various saws, shears and mulchers.
During the demonstration, Joe felled a hedge tree exceeding 2 feet in diameter in just two cuts using a Marshall Tree Saw.
Another impressive machine is the Loftness G3 Carbide Mulcher. This bad boy can take a small tree from standing to mulch in a matter of minutes. (Check out the videos of this and other machines on Foley’s YouTube channel.)

Total Commitment to Total Hydraulic Service Whatever brand of equipment you run, Foley offers the hydraulic service and support you need to keep your hydraulics performing flawlessly and your machine running efficiently. From pumps and motors to cylinders and rods, valves, hoses and fittings, inspections and fluid analysis, Foley offers comprehensive hydraulic service. The average Hydraulic Excavator has 200 hp pumps. If your machine’s pumps and motors aren’t set correctly and load-tested properly, you’re losing performance and wasting fuel. Foley has experience troubleshooting and repairing pump and motor problems for all categories of equipment. For you, it means minimum downtime.
Cylinders and Rods Many of today’s excavator cylinders have new retention nut torque requirements for proper operation. Don’t guess at the correct torque settings. Wrong torque equals wrong performance. Foley repairs cylinders from 1.5 inches to 12 inches, with rods to match. All replacement rods are IHCP (induction hardened chrome polished) which are harder and last longer. A large inventory on hand aids fast turnaround. Every re-sealing job includes cylinder honing for better fit, performance and life. Foley also offers a cost-effective re-rod, retube service. CAT® VS. COMPETITIVE PARTS:
Seals & Gaskets There is a difference. We’re starting a series that highlights the differences between Cat Parts and “will fit” offerings. The distinction is clear – uncompromised value and quality.
Harder liner seals: Cat liner seals are chemically harder than many will-fit products to resist the high combustion pressures of Cat engines. This allows for longer engine life and excellent durability. Clear identification: Cat part number is stamped on the genuine Cat seal where many will-fitters lack clear identification markings. This allows for easy and accurate ordering of replacement seals, saving time and frustration.
Robust fluid seal: The Cat fluid seal provides the highest level of sealing performance to prevent the entry of unwanted dirt and water or exit of necessary fluids from the engine. The fluid seal also improves bolt torque retention and aids in gasket installation. This results in longer engine wear life and reliable engine performance.
Long-lasting material: Cat head gaskets incorporate fire rings made of stainless steel to increase their durability and life while will-fit rings often use cheaper low carbon steel rings. Cat’s graphite-facing material significantly improves sealing capability and failure resistance over fiber matrix material seals found in the aftermarket.
Easy installation & removal: Cat seal and gasket one-piece removal avoids timeconsuming scraping, which can leave behind material affecting future sealability and lowering engine performance. Quick and easy installation and removal results in time and cost savings.

Austin Goode and Tyler Loomis compete at one of 15 different stations testing their knowledge of everything from failure analysis to hydraulic systems to presentation skills and interviewing.
CORNER
Lockout/Tagout Lockout/tagout means more than preventing the starting of a machine when a technician is working on it. It means safeguarding employees from the unexpected release of energy. Stored energy can take many different forms including electrical energy such as that stored in a battery or capacitor, pressurized or hot fluids, hydraulic or pneumatic, gravity or mechanical including such things as springs or flywheels. A proper lockout/tagout program includes the “3is”: Identify energy sources Isolate energy source Immobilize the source of energy
A lockout/tagout process typically follows these steps: 1. Release of any residual or stored energy. 2. Disabling and locking the main power source. 3. Remove the key from the lock. 4. Attempt to activate the power source after the lock is in place. 5. Remove lockout when safe.
UPCOMING TRAINING COURSES: As the year winds down, so does the number of courses but you’ll see a full slate of classes and dates after the first of the year. Remember, Foley can do onsite training for large employers.
