Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness... As someone who got married in October, autumn weddings always hold a special place in my heart, which is why I was thrilled to edit this season’s Folio wedding supplement. Our cover shoot took place at the beautiful Cadbury House in North Somerset. We put together a great team of suppliers for a day to remember, featuring gorgeous gowns, sharp suits, fabulous flowers – and a life-size fibreglass cow! We had a lot of fun on the day and I hope you enjoy reading it as much as we enjoyed organising it. The supplement is full to bursting withbrilliant ideas for your big day. From alternative engagement rings to reception styling tips, a list of the South West’s most stylish venues and the latest wedding fashions, we’ve sourced the best of the region’s wedding contacts in order to help you create the wedding of your dreams.

T
he sun was shining as the Folio team met up with models Elena and Oscar at Cadbury House, Congresbury, for our covershoot. We set out to create a relaxed and fun autumnal wedding, working with a team of the West’s best wedding experts - and some unexpected input from Maurice the cow!
The venue
We were the guests of Cadbury House, a Doubletree by Hilton hotel in Congresbury, just 20 minutes from Bristol. The hotel is set in beautiful grounds surrounded by lush, rolling countryside. We received fabulous hospitality during our day there and we can see why Cadbury House is so popular with South West couples wanting to get married. Describing itself as “traditional yet modern, friendly yet sophisticated”, the hotel has several rooms licensed for civil ceremonies, as well as the lovely outdoors thatched gazebo with views across the North Somerset countryside. There are some fabulous individual touches both inside and out, such as the lake with its plume-like fountain, and a Gothic-style stone archway which was the door to the original house. There’s also a rock face in the Great Room, from when the room was extended in the 1970s and built into the existing rock at the back of the original 18th century Cadbury House. The hotel can cater for between 20 and 200 people, and couples have the services of a dedicated wedding co-ordinator to ensure everything goes smoothly. With a luxury spa on site, you can enjoy some pampering in the run up to your big day! Cadbury House Frost Hill, Congresbury, Bristol BS49 5AD. Ffi: 01934 834343, www. cadburyhotelbristol.co.uk
The photographer
Sam Gibson came to wedding photography after a successful career shooting and directing observational films for the BBC. This background in documentary filming means Sam is able to put people at ease, and he aims to capture each wedding in an unobtrusive, elegant and natural way. He also brings with him an excellent eye for detail and the desire to really bring out the couple’s personality. For our shoot, Sam had fun suggesting some more informal shots as well as the posed portraits – such as our fantastic picture of the bride on Maurice. “It was really enjoyable working with Oscar and Elena on the shoot,” says Sam. “They were both so professional that I didn’t really need to do very much. I just tried to let them be themselves and have a good time. It was great working with a team as well the make-up artist and hair stylist were always on hand, which was a slight shock, compared with what I’m used to. I hope we’ve managed to bring a bit of documentary style and spontaneity to the shoot.” Sam Gibson Ffi: 07929 209505, info@ samgibsonweddings.co.uk, www. samgibsonweddings.co.uk
The dresses
All three dresses came from British designer Caroline Castigliano’s collection. Caroline has been designing wedding gowns for the past 20 years and has gained an enviable reputation in the bridal world. There are six Castigliano boutiques in the UK, including one in Bath. The first dress our bride wore was ‘Wistful’, a beautifully elegant bias cut dress with a Chantilly lace and soft tulle overlay, finished with a dramatically low back and diamante detail. This is perfect for the bride who wants a sleek yet still spectacular dress for her big day. ➻ folio/Autumn 2011 5

For our second bridal look Elena wore ‘Lychee’, which is another bias cut gown but this time in crepe back satin, with a diamante brooch detail on the bust, a low back and side and back godets. When combined with strings of pearls, this figurehugging dress with its softly draped skirt really evoked a 1920s look and beautifully reflected the light that was streaming through Cadbury House’s stained glass windows. The third, fuller skirted dress was ‘Wild Orchid’, which comprises a Parisian beaded lace bodice with silk duchess satin cummerbund at the waist and full circle silk satin-faced organza skirt. Elena called this the “princess” dress and it’s not hard to see why! Caroline Castigliano dresses are all handcrafted in the UK by master technicians. Each is cut specifically for individual brides to ensure the best fit possible. Prices for the Castigliano collection start from £2,000. Caroline Castigliano 5-6 Saw Close, Bath BA1 1EN. With shops in Bath and London, Marc Wallace’s name has become synonymous with great fitting suits and formalwear. We wanted our groom to look sharp and funky, and Marc’s suits didn’t disappoint. ➻ 6 folio/Autumn 2011

Oscar’s first suit was made from chocolate brown wool which is ideal for the cooler autumn weather. This was teamed with a dramatic floral shirt, perfect for a groom who wants to make a statement on his wedding day! A white silk tie (£49) provided a cool contrast to the pattern of the shirt. Our second look for the groom was a charcoal grey and narrow red pinstripe made-to-measure suit (£895) and matching waistcoat (£225). We accessorised these with a tie in autumnal shades of red and orange which featured a swallow motif, and which picked up on the colours in the bouquet and buttonhole. Marc has noticed grooms moving away from the traditional floral ties to more abstract designs, which has inspired him to experiment with oversized weaves and prints. Marc sees the trends for this season as, “Slimmer trousers and shorter jackets; everything is a bit more tapered. We’ve got some great petrol blue, pewter grey and coral colours, although the classic colours of navy and black will never go out of trend!”

The make-up
Our freelance make-up artist Sophie Bee believes, “Beautifully executed make-up should enhance your natural beauty and unique character.” This is especially important on your wedding day, when brides want to feel perfect as well as comfortable as themselves. Sophie listens to each individual’s needs to help them achieve the exact look they are aiming for. Top quality make-up by MAC fills her kit as she is confident that it looks flawless in photography, for brides and their wedding guests to enjoy looking at together for years to come. To enhance the model’s natural beauty and to incorporate the 1970s and metallic trends this season, Sophie created a smoky eye using brown and taupe hues to emphasise Elena’s green eyes. She blended matte and metallic textures to create a soft, smouldering effect that also reflected light: the groom and guests could not tear their gaze away from her. Sophie enhanced Elena’s feline look by using a fine eye liner in the lash line and then finished off with some natural fluttery false eyelashes. These have become popular with brides recently as they are picked up ➻ 8 folio/Autumn 2011

The hair
Tomasz Sadowski from seanhanna was the creative force behind our bride’s hairstyle. He wanted a fresh, relaxed look to fit in with the theme of the day, so kept Elena’s light brown hair in its natural waves. He put the hair into a zig zag side parting before pulling it into a low knot at the back. Tendrils of hair were then teased out and pulled over one shoulder and secured with hairspray before being finished off with a shine enhancer. The result? A soft, romantic hairstyle that perfectly complemented the gowns and make-up. This look also worked well with the mantilla-style veil worn by Elena in some of the photos. Tomasz Sadowski@seanhanna 13

The jewellery
The dazzling jewellery worn by both bride and groom came from John Titcombe, the Bristolbased jewellery designer who specialises in handmade designs to make your big day as memorable as possible. Anton from John Titcombe explains, “We felt these pieces complemented the dresses while keeping it classic and stylish, as well as showcasing our range.” Among the pieces were a pair of stunning diamond chandelier earrings (£3,250) and a three row pearl necklace (£1,250). All John Titcombe diamonds are Canadian and certified conflict-free, while gold used in the jewellery is also Fairtrade and Fairmined, so you can rest easy knowing that your jewellery is not just beautiful but ethically sourced too. “While we have a wide range of items available in our store, our designers are able to produce anything to create your dream piece,” says Anton. The models
Elena and Oscar both came from Shoot DHS Models in Bath, an agency run by former model David Hill-Souch. Since its start last year, Shoot DHS has built up an excellent reputation in the South West and beyond for providing models for a variety of work including catwalk, print and catalogue. When she’s not being Folio’s blushing bride, Elena is a circus performer, specialising in aerial skills such as trapeze, silks and hoop. This athletic ability certainly stood her in good stead for some of the more adventurous photos we took, including climbing up Cadbury House’s unusual interior rock face. Her favourite dress of the day? “The Lychee, definitely,” she says, and she’d be tempted to wear it for her own wedding, although she would be hard pressed to decide whether to go for a formal, extravagant wedding or to keep it more low key. Groom for the day Oscar is about to enter his third year of a Creative Writing degree at Bath Spa University. Although this was his first experience of a wedding shoot, he’s no stranger to the bridal world as his mother is a wedding dress designer, meaning Oscar grew up with wedding gowns all over the house. Would he like this type of wedding if he were to get married? “Probably not – I’d like to be barefoot on the beach!” Shoot DHS Models Odd Down Lodge, Upper Bloomfield Road, Bath BA2 2RU. The cake
Our fabulous, four-tiered white chocolate wedding cake came from Clifton Cakes in Bristol, who specialise in making couture cakes for every occasion. Proprietor Frances Cooley and her team have been working from Frances’ Clifton home kitchen for 10 years, turning clients’ ideas into wonderful cakes. Clifton Cakes’ designs are truly original and bespoke, combining highly skilled craftsmanship and luxurious indulgence. All cakes are handmade to order with organic, locally sourced ingredients… and imagination. In fact, we were hard pressed not to tuck into the wedding cake after the shoot! The flowers
We asked Edith Wilmot florists to provide a bouquet and buttonhole that reflected the season, and we loved the mix of orange, red and sandy hues they came up with. The bouquet contained a variety of roses, including Sahara, Babe Orange, Avalanche, Tara Yellow, Viven and the wonderfullynamed Miss Piggy! Green sprigs of crocosmia were interspersed with faux berries, and the arrangement was completed with deep red beech leaves. Edith Wilmot 5 Carlton Court, Bristol BS9 3DF. S
o it’s time to shop for the dress. That’s right. The big one. The one everybody is asking about. Your wedding dress. But with so many styles and so many fabrics, the world of wedding couture can often be an overwhelming one. Luckily, the sheer number of styles out there means you have the freedom to express yourself and show a little of that great personality. Go on, be brave! With vintage refusing to budge, it would be easy to think that the only options a bride has these days were short dresses with a full skirt and nipped-in waist, but if the thought of a beehive barnet and pillar-box red lipstick have you quaking in your boots, the retro trend is not compulsory. “Brides don’t want to be bland any more,” says Carina from Carina Baverstock Couture. “Today’s bride wants to express her uniqueness and personality and, above all, ‘relaxed elegance’. Gowns are less structured than, say, five years ago; these dresses now appear stiff, awkward and unnatural. Brides want pure lines enhanced by good cut tailoring. Simplicity is the keyword – think Pippa Middleton – with stunning embellishments of feathers or chantilly lace. Colour is changing dramatically from classic ivory to soft hues of honey, golden champagne and moonlight silvers – fabulous for pale English complexions.” If you’re a Kate and not a Pippa (sorry but we’re still not over that dress), then think lace and classic lines. Kate’s skirt was full but by no means gypsy wedding size, so don’t be put off by acres of material. In order to achieve some shape to the skirt why not pile the pleats on the
back and rock a bustle? That’s what Kate did and the narrower silhouette would also work well with a longer train and veil. If flowers are your forte, then blousy blooms and floral hairpieces are for you. Designer Claire Pettibone (available through Carina Baverstock Couture) uses flowers in many of her designs with a 70s-inspired print, floral embroidery or a statement corsage. But if vintage really does have you salivating quicker than a slice of cake, don’t be afraid to go for it. With celebrities such as Lily Allen and Kate Moss giving vintage the nod of approval, it’s sure to be a favourite style for brides this autumn. All you need to do is pick a period; they’re all there from floor-sweeping silks to feather-trimmed micro minis or full skirts and bows. For the full effect match hair and makeup to the decade of the dress, or add a contemporary edge by matching it with something ultra sleek and modern. Designers such as Matthew Williamson and Jenny Packham (also available through Carina Baverstock Couture) have pulled influence from the past to create their latest collections. Regardless of what style you go for, there’s always something about having a dress that has been designed with you in mind and with you making changes to it along the way. If you can find a designer who understands exactly what you’re looking for, then you’re onto a winner. Alison Miles, a wedding dress designer, is adamant that a bespoke gown is the way to go. “Brides are always looking for good value and having a dress made to measure can represent excellent value. Made to measure means made

FolioWeddings
to flatter. The fabrics used are often of much better quality, which give a wonderfully rich look. High-quality craftsmanship means strapless dresses don’t slip down and individually made inner corsetry is very comfortable to wear. The level of service is often much higher and fittings can be arranged outside normal working hours to make life easier for a busy bride. The designer will often dress the bride on the wedding day to ensure ‘the look’ is exactly as the bride and designer had planned.” When choosing the fabric for your dress Alison recommends softer, more romantic materials, which are popular at the moment. “Pearls and rhinestones being used alongside soft, flowing fabrics such as tulle, organza and soft crepe satin. Lace is popular but as part of a dress, rather than all over, as lace can be very expensive. Texture is increasingly important, with ruching and pleating swathing the figure then falling away into extravagant trains. It can also be added with flowers scattered onto the dress – over the skirt or shoulder.” Alison is also a firm advocate for wedding dresses with sleeves. Not only do they leave brides free to dance without the fear of a dancefloor wardrobe malfunction, they provide cover up in the cooler autumn months. Alison says: “Fewer dresses that I make are completely strapless, with many now having cap sleeves or shoulder coverings in lace, chiffon or georgette.” Whether it’s floral bohemia, Royal-influenced or a full-out vintage treasure, the important thing is that you love your dress. There’s something to be said for a bride wearing a gown that really means something to her. Don’t be swayed by what you think you should wear. It can be hard at times if someone else is paying for the dress or suggests styles you wouldn’t necessarily go for but, as Carina says, brides can afford to be a little more daring these days – you can too.

A gem of
an idea
Shopping for rings but wanting something a little bit different? Louise Jarndyce takes a look at the alternatives.
M
arilyn Monroe sang that diamonds are a girl’s best friend, and ever since the deBeers advert campaigns of the 1930s, diamonds have been the favoured stone for engagement rings. If you’d like something a little different, however, there are lots of other gemstones available for those wanting to rock the non-diamond look. The list of alternative stones is endless, ranging from the better-known rubies, emeralds, pearls and sapphires to semi-precious stones such as tourmalines, moonstones, topazes and peridots. One beautiful alternative to diamonds is aquamarine; with its light blue colour and subtle sparkle it is becoming increasingly popular. Diana Porter, the jewellers on Bristol’s Park Street, sells a 9-carat white gold ring set with a princes cut aquamarine, and with prices for this starting at £600, it can be a much more affordable option than a diamond. Another idea for a less-expensive yet still beautiful stone is to use spinels, which are a type of gemstone that closely resemble rubies. If you like the rich red hue of a ruby but don’t have a budget to accommodate this, then a spinel can be a much more affordable alternative. Clare Chandler, who runs Bristol jewellers Clifton Rocks, uses a range of stones in her work. One of her latest pieces was an unusual stack ring that used the customer’s own gold and featured sapphires, aquamarine and amethyst. Clare says: “I have had people using this style of wedding ring to represent them and their children's birthstones.” By selecting an engagement ring that features a stone personal to you in this way, you’ve instantly made it a talking point! You can take this a step further and have your engagement ring made as a one-off design especially for you, which is a great way to ensure that you can customise it in exactly the way you want. “I can source any stone that the customer requires,” says Julie Anne Palmer, who specialises in bespoke jewellery. “I will work with the customer through the making process to ensure the ring is exactly as they wanted.” And as John
Titcombe Jewellers, who also offer a bespoke jewellery service, say: “the designs are only limited by your imagination!” In this era of thrift and vintage, there is always the option of refashioning an heirloom piece to create something new. Perhaps you have a ring from a family member that doesn’t suit you, or an old brooch that you don’t wear any more. Diana Porter recently made a tourmaline ring for a customer who wanted to put a gemstone to good use. “The tourmaline stone was a customer’s own, which is a wonderful way to keep an heirloom yet have a contemporary design that suits the customer.” When it comes to wedding bands, gold and platinum have certainly dominated the market for quite some time, but recently couples have started looking for alternative metals and designs. One metal that is becoming popular is palladium, which is from the same group of metals as platinum but with the added bonus of being cheaper than its more expensive cousin. Clare has certainly seen an increase in the use of palladium. “We sell a palladium slate ring which has been really popular for men buying a wedding band.” This trend has also been seen at Diana Porter. “Palladium is great alternative to traditional metals of gold and platinum. Its silvery colour is close to that of platinum but is lightweight and more affordable.” Another option is zirconium, a grey-white metal that Julie Anne has used for wedding bands and which can be grooved to create an unusual texture. As well as an alternative metal for wedding bands, there are other ways you can personalise your wedding band so it’s unique to you. Diana Porter is well known for her etching and customers are utilising this by having their own words etched around rings. This can be great for a wedding ring, with the date of the wedding picked out in Roman numerals – simple yet beautiful. Maybe it’s time to rewrite that song…

lifton College offers a uniquely beautiful and prestigious setting in the heart of Bristol’s Georgian splendour. With the spectacular backdrop of the school buildings and large green Close, it’s hard to imagine a more beautiful wedding venue offering acres of picturesque space in a prime city-centre location. The College has a number of different options for wedding receptions. For those in search of a low-key, intimate celebration, the Cricket Pavilion on the edge of the Close is perfect for small parties. It also makes an ideal summer venue, with plenty of space to relax outside in the sunshine. You can serve your guests a three-course wedding breakfast in the Pavilion, or offer a low-key barbecue where guests can help themselves and sit on picnic rugs on the grass. Alternatively, for larger wedding parties of up to 180 guests, you can welcome your guests with a drinks reception in the Newbolt Room and the adjoining East Cloister. On sunny days, you and your guests can wander outside into the grounds, offering extensive views of the Close and historic College buildings. A delicious Wedding Breakfast will be served by our top-class on-site caterers in the Grand Hall, with its high
ceilings and beautiful windows, before you and your guests prepare to dance the night away. The venue is exclusively yours throughout the day, allowing your party to make the most of this beautiful setting. Summer wedding parties can enjoy watching cricket on the Close on certain weekends throughout the summer. “We have some great contacts for local companies who can provide everything from flowers to cakes, bands to chair covers,” adds Rachel Gough, the College’s Events Coordinator. “From the moment you make your first enquiry right up until the special day itself, we will ensure that you receive the very best service catered to your individual needs, and we will make your celebration exactly how you imagined it to be.” Clifton College is holding a Wedding Exhibition on Sunday 30 October from 11am to 4pm, giving you the chance to have a look around the college and get some great ideas for your big
day. Or, for more information or to fully appreciate the service, setting and surroundings that the College has to offer, please contact Rachel Gough who will be pleased to discuss your requirements on 0117 315 7669 or via RGough@ clifton-college.avon.sch.uk.

So because we’re nice like that, we’ve put together a guide to some of the best venues in the area to help you make your decision. Sit back, put your feet up, grab a cup of tea and read on…
Looking for the wow factor? With its magnificent medieval architecture, impressive Tudor Hall, luxurious bedrooms and walled gardens, Thornbury Castle certainly has this in spades. If you’re a foodie, the castle has an excellent pedigree when it comes to food and has won many prestigious awards over the years. Head chef Mark Veale uses locallysourced, seasonal produce for his modern British menu, and will create a delicious wedding breakfast for you and your guests to enjoy. After the ceremony couples can choose to stay in a variety of luxurious bedchambers including the Duke’s Bedchamber, where Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn once slept and which features an impressive antique fourposter, an open fire and a freestanding bathtub. Or you could opt to spend your first night as a married couple in the Woodstock with its arrow slit windows and secret bathroom. Doubletree by Hilton Cadbury House, set in beautiful North Somerset countryside, provides a fantastic mix of traditional and modern for your wedding day. Couples can enjoy luxury surroundings with stunning views and locations for wedding photos, as well as dedicated staff to make the day memorable. The hotel can cater for large or small marital celebrations from wedding ceremonies to wedding receptions and evening celebrations. It’s licensed to hold civil marriage ceremonies and same gender commitment ceremonies any day of the week and has a number of rooms available for this. Our favourite is the outdoors thatched gazebo, with its spectacular panoramic views of the rolling countryside. The beautiful lake and garden will also provide a great backdrop for your photos – as will the hotel’s lifesize fibreglass cow! For couples interested in getting married there, Cadbury House is hosting a wedding open day on Sunday 11 September. Cadbury House Frost Hill, Congresbury, Bristol BS49 5AD. Courting luxury Sometimes it seems that venues are just made for weddings, and that’s certainly true of Tortworth Court. Lords, knights and dukes all played their part in weaving a rich historical fabric into the building, and today the house is a combination of Victorian splendour and contemporary luxury ideal for weddings. Tortworth Court has a number of rooms licensed for civil ceremonies and can cater for a range of differentsized receptions. Choose from the grandeur of Moreton’s Library, steeped in character and tradition, or the sublime Orangery with its ornate glass panels. The newly-refurbished Westminster Suite is ideal for larger weddings, or a marquee can also be erected in the grounds, perfect for those mellow summer days. Fairytale ending If you dream of being a princess for the day, Berkeley Castle is the venue for you. Made from warm pink stone that glows softly in the sunset, it is intimate in scale, with uneven battlements, small towers and arched doors. The castle is licensed to hold civil wedding and civil partnership ceremonies in six of the public rooms. In order to ensure exclusivity for couples, the facility is closed to the public on Fridays and Saturdays. Winter weddings are particularly romantic there, with real fires in the Great Hall and the Long Drawing Room offering a special welcome and atmosphere on a frosty afternoon. Throughout the spring and summer, meanwhile, the gardens and grounds are a stunning backdrop for photographs, which include the Elizabethan terraces, the ornamental lily pond with high-jet fountain (originally the eighth Earl’s swimming pool!) and the mature pine and yew trees surrounding the lawns. Rock the Royal look Ever since the Royal nuptials back in April, the wedding world has been (not so) patiently waiting for some Middleton-inspired bridal wear to grace our high streets. It’s not just Kate’s ivory lace creation that brides have been demanding though; everyone wants a slice of Pippa’s style too. Heads turned as she emerged from the bridal car behind Kate in that dress, and it was a challenge to look away as she made her way into the church and down the aisle behind her sister. In response to public demand, Debenhams has come up with its own, limited edition version of Pippa’s bridesmaid gown. This slender, figurehugging design is anticipated to be in such high demand that the depart-
ment store has even come up with a ‘lady-in-waiting’ list to allow customers to make their reservation and stake their own claim in royal wedding fashion history! As well as this design Debenhams has been working on a whole range of bridal wear inspired by the Westminster wedding. Flower girl frocks and evening gowns are also to be part of the Royal range which is to include an elegant emerald green number – another design taken from Pippa’s style closet. Best foot forward
With all the photographs, dancing and general partying, your feet can get very tired at a wedding and walking home in your high heels isn’t always an option! So why not ensure you’re prepared by having a pair of Rollasoles in your bag? Rollasoles are a pair of stylish emergency flat shoes that roll up into a small ball. Pop them into your handbag or coat at the start of the day, and then when your feet start to flag you can slip off your heels and slip on the Rollasoles for instant comfort. At £6.95 a pair, they would also make a great gift for your bridesmaids so they can stay on the dance floor the whole night! Rollasoles are available in gold, silver and funky leopard print, and also come with a free bag.

tyling the wedding reception can often send couples into a panic as everyone wants their celebration to have that wow factor. Ensuring that your wedding reception is the celebration of a lifetime, one that your guests will be talking about long after the big day, is not about spending lavish amounts of money but about infusing personal, unique and creative ideas that really reflect you both as a couple. When it comes to dressing your reception, don’t be afraid to step outside the box and do things a little differently. Let your venue, your surroundings and the time of year inspire your plans. Autumn trends this year include more informal floral arrangements and even more foliage thanks to the impressive trees which lined the Royal Wedding in April. Flowers from the garden add a colourful, more personal look to your tables and reception venue. Use enamel jugs and vintage china to hold posies of flowers, or entwine ivy around the base and back of your guests’ chairs. Pots of lavender can look beautiful and smell amazing grouped together in the centre of a table. To decorate a large space such as a marquee, try twisting wicker into a heart shape and suspending a posy of seasonal flowers such as dahlias, late season roses or chrysanthemum at the centre. You ➻

Individual touches will ensure you have a wedding none of your guests will forget
could also use the beautiful leaves and foliage available at this time of year such as Virginia creeper, old man’s beard and honesty. DIY details are still very popular, saving not only money but adding that personal touch that your guests will appreciate so much. Writing an individual message to each of your guests that’s waiting at their place setting shows you are thinking of them. I loved styling one wedding where the groom’s love of a particular Somerset cider determined the name of each table and the centrepieces. Bottles were transformed into candle holders and vintage glassware held delicate white and green flowers with apples resting in between. This apple theme would be perfect for an autumn wedding. For favours, why not make pots of jam for your guests using seasonal fruit such as blackberry or elderberry? This will be one favour that won’t get left on the table afterwards! The traditional tiered iced wedding cake is being overlooked for sweet tables and cheese cakes now. Think glass jars full of traditional sweets and cakes and personalised paper bags that you can fill up and dip into throughout the evening. Truckles of cheese on top of each other make a great alternative to a cake for couples who have a savoury tooth. Take your cue from the season and serve with a spicy tomato and apple chutney. Inspiration comes from many different places and people, but most of all it should come from you both as a
couple. Gather bits and pieces that appeal to you and together you will begin to form the beginnings of your ideal wedding. Add a sprinkling of inspiration and a spoonful of creativity, use the things around you, and you’ll have a wedding that none of your guests will forget.
