First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.

我劝你首先要为所有的人恳求、祷告、代求,为他们感谢上帝。

也要为所有的君王和掌权者祷告,使我们可以怀着虔诚、端正的心过和平安宁的生活。 - 提摩太前书 1 Timothy 2:1-2

ANNOUNCEMENTS

CAC SUNDAY SECOND OFFERING COLLECTION

The Methodist Church practices an itinerant system where pastors commit to serving in whichever church or ministry they are appointed to. CAC Sunday reminds us that our churches belong to one annual conference, that is, CAC! The Special 2nd Offering collected 11 August 2024 (Please indicate “CACS24” during the offering) goes toward CAC’s Central Pooling Fund, which supports CAC’s pastoral, board and ministry expenses. Thus, we appeal to the support and generosity of church members to give lovingly.

“Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Corinthians 9:7).

May the Lord continue to use CAC and all of our churches for His mission of salvation to all who believe.

SERMON NOTES

经文 Scripture: 2 Timothy 1:5-6

Discussion Questions

1. Reflect back on your relationship with your parents/children with the lens of inheriting/passing down our faith. Where do you see God’s grace was at work through (and sometimes despite the flaws of) our parents and us?

2. Share your thoughts on the phrase below: “Christian maturity is marked by increased dependence on and surrender to God. To help our children become strong in their faith and mature as Christians, we must help them independently depend on God.”

3. Timothy inherited the faith first from his grandmother and mother, and later from his spiritual father and mentor, Paul. Who are the children and persons of the next generation God has given you to disciple to be strong in the faith? Would you be able to confidently say to them, “Imitate me as I imitate Christ,”? Pray for them by name and make a commitment to be a good example to them.

If you don’t have any such people, pray to be used in such a way to contribute to building up the next generation to be strong in the faith. If you desire such mentoring or to be a spiritual mentor, let any of the pastors know. We’ll do our best to help you.
