Program Announcements Apetito Introduces Innovative Range of Single Portion Purees Available to Central and Southwest Ontario This month Apetito, a preferred Foodbuy supplier of healthcare entrées, will launch an innovative range of purées that are shaped perfectly for healthcare foodservice trays. Available in Central and Southwest Ontario, these new purées are offered in a wide selection of meats, casseroles, vegetables and starches and come in convenient single portions. The unique shape of Apetito’s new purées gives you the ability to only heat the amount that’s needed for one customer, therefore, eliminating food waste and associated costs. Apetito’s shaped purées are easily heated in their trays via a convection oven, steamer or stove-top. Or they can be pre-plated to be heated in a microwave or other re-therm systems. Not only are Apetito’s single portion purées convenient, but they are also healthy and delicious. We’re Here To Help & We Want Your Program Feedback Highlights Unilever Food Solutions (UFS) Announces Price Increases in Multiple Categories For many years, as a preferred supplier in various categories, Unilever provided pricing that was below market to Foodbuy and our customers. This year, Unilever announced they would be bringing their prices up to market, and this has been reflected in the price increases we saw in January and are now seeing in March. Foodbuy is committed to ensuring superior products for our customers at the best value and has been aggressively working to find alternatives that will mitigate the impact of these increases while still providing superior products for our customers. In January, we were successful in securing new programs with Kraft Heinz in the mayo and dressings category, and in Feburary we were successful in transitioning our Unilever margarine SKUs over to Parmalat and Richardson Oilseed. Market and Commodity News Bank of Canada Raises Interest Rates in January Strongly Impacting the Canadian Dollar On February 20 the loonie held steady at $.79, however the forecasting for the rest of the year remains unspecified. Factors like changing oil prices, the U.S. dollar and Bank of Canada make the loonie especially unpredictable and while forecasters estimate that the dollar could range from $.76 to $.84 in 2018 depending on market factors.
Produce Update: What’s In Season? As we head into March, there will be many new produce items coming into season as growing regions begin to get warmer and farmers anticipate the start of the season. Rhubarb and large beets are just a few of the local items that are in season and available to our customers.
