ARLEMUNSI WOMEN’S BAKERY PROJECT Status Report
San Fernando, Siguatepeque, Comayagua, Honduras
Project Goal Establish a bakery for the women of the Arlemunsi cooperative group in Siguatepeque, Honduras, to increase their income-earning potential.
Original Project Description The Arlemunsi Women’s Bakery Project is funding the cost of constructing and equipping a bakery that will expand business potential for the women of the Arlemunsi cooperative group. Instruction will be provided on bread baking, pastry making and essential decorating techniques. The bakery will also have a dining area where customers from the community will be able to enjoy the affordable baked goods. The details include the following:
Construction of a bakery including electrical installations, plumbing and concrete counter tops One two-burner industrial stove One stainless-steel industrial working table One industrial oven One refrigerator One vertical cooler One heavy-duty mixer Cooking accessories Bakery workshops Start-up supplies and ingredients Installation of a sign Transportation
Sixteen women of the Arlemunsi cooperative group and their families will be the direct beneficiaries of the project. The community of Siguatepeque will also benefit from having access to affordable baked foods.
Change to Project Description Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of donors in recognition of International Women’s Day, sufficient funds were donated to not only enhance the bakery with the following expansions, but to build a second one.

All these changes are reflected in the attached budget.
Project Update The first bakery has been completed in its entirety, including the additional enhancements as mentioned above. The land was first filled and leveled prior to construction. The concrete foundation was then laid followed by construction of the walls, columns, floors and counter tops. The septic system, single-unit sanitation facility and hand-washing station followed along with installation of the alu-zinc roof. Balconies and a containment wall were also constructed. The finishing touches have been completed, which include installation of ceramic tiles on the porch floor, counter tops, walls and hand-washing station. Fans have been installed, and an oven has been purchased for the kitchen. There is such overwhelming excitement and gratitude in the community from the construction of this beautiful building and the potential for income that it represents. Residents eagerly look forward to the opening in the near future.
