SCHEDULE NOTES • • • • •

Nebraska is set to compete in 10 tournaments in 2018-19, including at least nine tournaments the Huskers participated in last season (not including NCAA Championship). Of the nine tournaments NU is participating in this season and also competed at last season, Nebraska is the defending champion at five (Bearcat Hammer Open, Track Kat Klash, Stormin’ Ladyjack Invitational, Mid-Missouri NCAA/Central Missouri Invitational and the Big Red Invitational). Nebraska will once again host the Big Red Invitational at Sun Valley Lanes in Lincoln. NU has held the tournament in eight of the past nine seasons, winning three times and finishing no lower than fourth. The Huskers will be competing at the Track Kat Klash for the eighth consecutive season. Nebraska won in the 2014-15, 2015-16 and 2017-18 seasons. In each of the six previous tournaments, the Big Red have posted a top-five finish, including a first-place finish last season. Nebraska returns to the Prairie View A&M Invitational, looking to win the tournament for the sixth time in the last seven years. The Huskers finished seventh last season at the tournament but will look to return to dominance at the event, as Nebraska won the tournament five consecutive seasons from 2013-2017. The NCAA Championship has a new look for 2019. The re-formatted tournament will consist of 12 teams with selection determined by NCAA RPI rankings. Four teams will automatically be placed in the championship bracket and participating at the finals site. The other eight teams will participate in opening-round matches. The winners of the opening-round matches will complete the eight-team bracket at the championship.

THE UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA

The University of Nebraska was chartered by the Nebraska Legislature in 1869 as the state’s public university and landgrant institution. Founded in Lincoln, the University of Nebraska was expanded in 1968 into a state educational system now comprising four campuses under the guidance of a Board of Regents and a central administration. Nebraska, which joined the Big Ten Conference in 2011, is a member of the Big Ten Academic Alliance, a consortium of Big Ten universities and the University of Chicago, which has generated unique opportunities for students and faculty by sharing expertise, leveraging resources and collaborating on programs.

BIG TEN ACADEMIC ALLIANCE

As a member of the Big Ten, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) is a member of the Big Ten Academic Alliance (BTAA), formerly the Committee on Institutional Cooperation, which is the academic consortium of the universities in the Big Ten Conference. The consortium was renamed on June 29, 2016. The BTAA includes all 14 Big Ten Institutions and the University of Chicago. The Big Ten Academic Alliances and the institutions together have annual research expenditures topping $10.2 billion — more than the Ivy League and the University of California System combined — and they educate a total of nearly 600,000 students with approximately 50,000 full-time faculty members.

However, his dedication and commitment to Nebraska bowling runs much deeper, as he coached both the men’s and women’s teams for over 20 years dating back to when both programs were club sports. During his tenure, the Husker men’s and women’s teams have combined for 12 national titles in the past 27 years. The Nebraska women’s bowling program won national championships in 1991, 1995, 1997, 1999, 2001, 2004, 2005, 2009, 2013 and 2015, while the men’s program captured national titles in 1990 and 1996. The 2003-04 season was a huge success for Straub and his Huskers, as bowling competition was held at the NCAA level for the first time. Nebraska capped the season by winning the first-ever NCAA championship, rallying through the loser’s bracket to defeat Central Missouri State in the nationally televised final. Shannon Pluhowsky was named the MVP of the NCAA Championship. Straub then guided the Huskers to a second NCAA title in 2005, as Amanda Burgoyne was named the NCAA Championship MVP. Straub and his team captured the 2009 NCAA title as Husker Cassandra Leuthold earned Most Valuable Player honors for the tournament. He also led the Huskers to the 2013 NCAA championship, using a great all-around effort led by MVP Lizabeth Kuhlkin to defeat Vanderbilt 4.5 to 2.5. Most recently, Straub guided the Huskers to the 2015 NCAA championship that was played in front of an ESPN nationally televised audience. The Huskers defeated Stephen F. Austin by a score of 4-2 at Tropicana Lanes in St. Louis, behind strong efforts by Kuhlkin and Julia Bond, who was named MVP of the tournament.

l 28

In 2017-18, Straub’s 21st season, his Huskers finished in fourth place at the NCAA Championship. Straub was named National Tenpin Coaches Association Coach of the Year after leading Nebraska to six tournament wins in 2017-18 and helping NU to two more second-place finishes. For the third consecutive season, Bond earned first-team All-America honors, while Raquel Orozco earned first-team honors for the first time. Kelly Belzeski and Meghan Straub were both third-team NTCA All-Americans for the Huskers in 2017-18. In the 15 years that the NCAA has sponsored bowling, Nebraska is the only program to have qualified for the NCAA Championship in every season. In addition to winning the award in 2018, Straub was honored as the NTCA Coach of the Year in 2005, 2013 and 2017. Straub has coached seven bowlers who have been tabbed for a total of nine NTCA Collegiate Player-of-the-Year awards, including Kim (Berke) Straub (1992), Diandra (Hyman) Asbaty (2000), Pluhowsky (2001, 2004, 2005), Lindsay Baker (2006), Burgoyne (2007), Leuthold (2010) and most recently Kuhlkin in 2015. Straub has also coached four bowlers to NTCA Rookie-ofthe-Year honors, including Berke (1989), Pluhowsky (2001), Baker (2005) and Leuthold (2007). Along with winning 10 national titles, Straub’s squads have not been ranked lower than seventh in the top 25 team rankings since becoming a varsity sport in 1997. Straub’s bowling history goes far beyond the University of Nebraska. A Lincoln native, Straub had an illustrious professional career, both locally and nationally. A member of the Nebraska Bowling Hall of Fame, Omaha Bowling Hall of Fame and the Lincoln Bowling Hall of Fame, Straub has gained more honors and titles than any other bowler from the state of Nebraska. His numerous local, state and national titles give proof that his success as a bowler and coach are mirrored by the success of his bowlers. Straub graduated from Kensington University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He and his wife Kim, a former four-time All-American at Nebraska and the 1992 National Collegiate Bowler of the Year, have one daughter, current Husker bowler Meghan.

PAUL KLEMPA

ASSISTANT HEAD COACH | 22ND SEASON

Education: B.A. in psychology, University of Nebraska Family: Wife: Leanna; Sons: Jake and Carter HONORS & AWARDS • Seven National Titles (1999, 2001, 2004, 2005, 2009, 2013, 2015) • 32 bowlers have made a combined 69 NTCA All-America teams • 43 bowlers have made a combined 80 NTCA All-Academic teams • 14 bowlers have been selected to national teams

Paul Klempa recently completed his 21st season as the Nebraska bowling assistant head coach, while his association with the program dates back to 1992. After a collegiate career in which he earned AllAmerica honors as a senior in 1994, Klempa remained in Lincoln and was hired as the Huskers’ assistant coach in 1997. During his tenure as a coach at Nebraska, Klempa has helped guide the Huskers to seven national championships - including back-to-back NCAA titles in 2004 and 2005, and NCAA championships in 2009, 2013 and most recently, 2015. Klempa has tutored numerous bowlers who earned All-America honors during their careers and 12 student-athletes who went on to represent various national teams. Klempa served as interim head coach for the Nebraska bowling team for much of the 2013-14 season, while head coach Bill Straub recovered from a medical issue. Klempa led the Huskers to a pair of tournament titles and a No. 2 national ranking. He also helped guide the Huskers to their 11th-straight NCAA Championship appearance. “I thought he did a great job,” Straub said. “He gives me a great supporting cast. It helps me think better when I need it. Paul didn’t have that option (that season). He had to make the main decisions on his own. Week after week, it is taxing.” “I think Coach grew more by having more responsibility,” Straub added. “He not only had his own duties, he had most of mine to boot. I think that is a growth period, and he performed admirably.” Klempa helped guide Nebraska to its fifth NCAA title in 2015. Liz Kuhlkin was named the National Collegiate Bowler of the Year, while Julia Bond was named the Most Outstanding Bowler in the NCAA Championship. In 2017-18, Klempa guided Nebraska to the national semifinal. The Huskers won six tournament titles throughout the season and the Big Red finished second at two other events. Julia Bond captured first-team AllAmerica honors for the third consecutive season, while Raquel Orozco notched first-team honors for the first time. Kelly Belzeski and Meghan Straub also earned third-team honors. In the 15 years that the NCAA has sponsored bowling, Nebraska is the only program to have qualified for the NCAA Championship in every season. A native of Johnstown, N.Y., Klempa graduated from Nebraska in 1994 with a degree in psychology. He owns several 300 games and 800 series in his decorated career and has represented Nebraska in the U.S. Open and is also a State Match Game champion. Klempa and his wife, Leanna, reside in Lincoln and have two sons, Jake and Carter.

HUSKERS SHOOT FOR SIXTH NCAA TITLE IN 2019

Kneeling (from left): Gwen Maeha, Michelle Guarro, Brynn Lambrecht. Sitting (from left): Kendyl Hofmeister, Estefania Prieto, Alexa Fernández.

As the 2018-19 season approaches for the Nebraska bowling team, the Cornhuskers have their sights focused on winning a sixth NCAA championship after landing in fourth last season. Bill Straub, the 2018 NTCA Coach of the Year, leads the Huskers again this season on their path to the top. Straub has earned numerous honors in his 22 years as head coach of the Huskers, including NTCA Coach of the Year four times and 10 National Titles including five NCAA championships. Nebraska is the only program to have qualified for every NCAA Championship since bowling became an NCAA-sanctioned sport in 2003-04. “The current Husker bowling squad is arguably the most cohesive unit we have had in a long time. As blessed as we are yearly in having a team with abounding talent and strong drive to succeed, this team for the 2018-19 season easily defines the best example of special student-athletes and high quality individuals, in general,” Coach Straub said. “Now, if only performance equals our potential.” Paul Klempa, the assistant head coach, also returns for his 22nd season. “We have a blend of accomplished upperclassmen and talented freshmen on this year’s squad, which makes this year very promising,” Coach Klempa said. “The future is also very bright with the influx of skilled freshmen on this year’s team.” The 2018-19 team is composed of two returning All-Americans in Meghan Straub and Raquel Orozco. The Huskers are also loaded with five returning letterwinners in Straub, Orozco, Allison Morris, Estefania Prieto and Michelle Guarro. Senior Meghan Straub will serve as the captain for the 201819 Nebraska bowling team, and she is excited about the energy l 32

and cohesiveness the Huskers have displayed during offseason preparations. “It seems although each season our team has a ‘one for all and all for one’ attitude, this year our team motto is fused with one goal: Be the best we can be,” Straub said. “It is hard to believe how fast the years have gone by, and I am very blessed to have been able to share them with my family and teammates. Being the captain for this year’s team is an honor, and I will do everything I can to make this team as successful as possible.” Straub, a two-time All-American, is the only senior on the team this season and had an average of 206.3 last season. She helped the Huskers reach the semifinal of the NCAA Championship in 2017-18 and hopes to lead the squad back to the NCAA Championship and Nebraska’s first bowling title since 2015. Orozco, a 2018 first-team All-American, returns to the team for her junior season and is ready to take on the competition. Orozco is the most productive returner, averaging a score of 211.4 last season. She also finished first individually at two tournaments. She led the Big Red at the NCAA Championship where she posted an average of 207.2. Morris is back again after bowling in seven events for Nebraska last season. She claimed individual runner-up honors at both the Mid-Winter Classic and Central Missouri Women’s Invite last season. Morris also returns NCAA Championship experience, bowling an average of 181.2 at the event last season. The trio of Straub, Orozco and Morris have likely claimed three of the five rotation spots this season and the final two positions are up for grabs. A pair of sophomores, Prieto and Guarro, return with starting and relief experience for the Huskers.

HUSKERS Prieto and Guarro shared time in the lineup last year and both posted averages above 180.0. Prieto bowled in nine games and had an average of 182.0, while Guarro participated in eight games and recorded an average of 182.1. This season, sophomore transfer Alexa Fernández and redshirt freshman Cassidy Ray look to break into the starting lineup for the first time. Newcomers Kelly Hofmeister, Brynn Lambrecht and Gwen Maeha will all add depth to the roster in their first season as Huskers. The letterwinners, All-Americans and newcomers are all playing for one common goal: winning the National Championship. The Huskers must work to replace graduated seniors Julia Bond and Kelly Belzeski, who played major roles in the team’s lineup for multiple seasons. The two players were strong influences both on and off the lanes. Bond was a four-time All-American, the eighth in program history, and Belzeski was a two-time All-American. The Cornhuskers hope to continue their dominance off the lanes as well. Last season, 10 Huskers earned a total of 16 spots on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll across the fall and spring semesters. Nebraska bowlers were also honored for their work in the community in 2018, as all 10 members of the Big Red were named to the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team.

Meghan Straub earned All-America accolades for the second straight season as a junior in 2017-18. Straub will serve as a captain for the Huskers as a senior this season.

Nebraska begins its 2018-19 season at the Bearcat Hammer Open, hosted by McKendree in Fairview Heights, Ill. (Oct. 26-28). The Huskers then head to the Track Kat Klash in Houston, Texas (Nov. 2-4), before wrapping up the 2018 calendar year with the Warhawk Classic in Milwaukee, Wis. (Nov. 9-11). The spring semester kicks off with the Mid-Winter Classic in Jonesboro, Ark. (Jan. 11-13), before the Huskers travel to Chesterfield, Miss., for the Columbia 300 Saints (Jan. 25-27). February will be a busy month for the Big Red as the Huskers compete in three tournaments throughout the month. The Prairie View A&M Invitational in Arlington, Texas kicks off the month (Feb. 1-3), before the Big Red participate at the Mid-Missouri NCAA Invite in Fulton, Mo., (Feb. 8-10). Nebraska wraps up the month at the SFA Stormin’ Ladyjack Invitational in Houston, Texas (Feb. 15-17). The Huskers conclude the regular season by playing host to the Big Red Invitational on March 1-3 at Sun Valley Lanes in Lincoln. Nebraska won the tournament last season and will be looking to repeat. The event is free all weekend to fans and promotional activities and giveaways are scheduled. The 2019 NCAA Championship is set for April 11-13 in Cleveland, Ohio. Nebraska is the only program to have qualified for the national tournament in each of the 15 years that the NCAA has sponsored bowling, and the Huskers have advanced to the semifinals 14 times. Nebraska has reached the title match in five of the last six seasons. Raquel Orozco claimed first-team NTCA All-America honors in 2018, capturing the second All-America award of her collegiate career.

2017-18 SEASON REVIEW: HUSKERS FINISH 4TH IN 2018

The 2017-18 Huskers: Back row (from left): Assistant Head Coach Paul Klempa, Meghan Straub, Michelle Guarro, Kelly Belzeski, Cassidy Ray, Head Coach Bill Straub. Middle Row (from left): Raquel Orozco, Amanda Morgan, Allison Morris. Kneeling: Kelly Huddleston, Estefania Prieto. Sitting: Julia Bond.

The Nebraska bowling team capped another successful season by advancing to the semifinals of the NCAA Championship for the 14th time in the last 15 seasons. Julia Bond, Kelly Belzeski, Raquel Orozco and Megan Straub all brought home AllAmerica honors for the Big Red, while Coach Bill Straub earned NTCA National Coachof-the-Year honors for the fourth time in his illustrious career. Nebraska reached the NCAA Tournament as the No. 1 seed, and the Huskers started the strong by sweeping No. 8 seed Lincoln Memorial. However, the Huskers lost momentum by falling to Vanderbilt, which dropped the Big Red into an elimination game with North Carolina A&T on the second day of the championship. The Huskers responded by beating North Carolina A&T before falling to defending national champion McKendree in the NCAA semifinals to end Nebraska’s season. Nebraska dominated the regular season,

winning tournament titles in six of its nine tournaments during the year, while taking runner-up honors in two more. The Huskers ended the season with a 102-16 record - an impressive performance in the program’s 22nd season. Straub was voted NTCA Coach of the Year for the second straight season. He was also the national award winning in 2005, 2013 and 2017. Bond and Orozco led the Huskers as firstteam NTCA All-Americans. Bond closed her remarkable collegiate career as a four-time AllAmerican with her third consecutive first-team All-America award. She was the eighth fourtime All-American in program history. It marked Orozco’s second All-America award and the first time she was a first-team AllAmerican. Meghan Straub and Belzeski both claimed third-team All-America honors. It marked the second All-America awards of their careers. Belzeski led the Huskers with a 212.7 average in 2017-18, the seventh-highest single-season

HUSKERS Nebraska closed out the 2017 calendar year with runner-up honors by going 12-1 at the Warhawk Classic. Straub was the only Cornhusker to finish in the top 20, placing 20th. The setback snapped Nebraska’s streak of five straight Prairie View A&M Invitational titles. The Big Red returned to its winning ways after the Prairie View A&M Invitational, rattling off four straight tournament victories leading up to the NCAA Championship. Nebraska won the Crusader Classic (12-0) and Orozco took the individual crown, firing an average of 214.6. The following week, the Huskers won the SFA Stormin’ Ladyjack title (13-0), while Belzeski finished second in the individual race (229.2). The Cornhuskers concluded their regular season at the Big Red Invitational, winning the tournament 10-1. Bond won the individual crown (232.6). The Huskers began the NCAA Championship with a 2-2 record on the first day. Nebraska defeated eighth-seed Lincoln

Memorial (1,031-972) in the first traditional match of the day, and then the Huskers continued their dominance in the second game, taking out the Lady Railsplitters (1,062945). The victory pitted Nebraska against Vanderbilt in the second round of the tournament. The Commodores edged the Huskers (967-935) in game one and Vanderbilt also claimed the second game (1,036-983). Top-seeded Nebraska began round three with a crucial 2-0 victory against sixth-seeded North Carolina A&T in an elimination match. The Huskers defeated the Bulldogs 1,012947 in the traditional portion. Nebraska also defeated North Carolina A&T in the Baker portion by a score of 1,012-947. Nebraska then fell to McKendree in the semifinal match, dashing the Huskers’ hopes of another National Championship. McKendree came out strong and won 1,047-987 in the traditional match. The Bearcats clinched the match with a 1,115-1,004 win in the five-game Baker format portion of the matchup. With the appearance at the NCAA Championship, Nebraska continued to be the only team to qualify to compete at the NCAA Championship in each season since the NCAA began sanctioning the sport in the 2003-04 season. Nebraska’s season was highlighted by a 38-game winning streak which stretched five tournaments from the final game of the Prairie View Invitational (Feb. 4) through the second game of the Big Red Invitational (March 2). The Big Red dominated regularseason match play with six tournament title victories and two runner-up finishes. The Huskers found tournament titles at the Brunswick Bearcat Open, the Track Kat Klash, the Crusader Classic, the Stephen F. SEASON REVIEW

2018-19 NEBRASKA BOWLING

NEBRASKA BOWLING HISTORY In its 21 years as a varsity sport, Nebraska has become one of the top programs in the nation. Nebraska Coach Bill Straub has guided the Huskers to unprecedented success, winning 10 national championships, including five NCAA titles since capturing the inaugural crown in 2004. Once bowling became an NCAA-sanctioned sport in 2003, the Huskers won back-to-back titles in 2004 and 2005 and captured another in 2009. The Huskers again added to their trophy case in 2013. After a runner-up finish in 2014, the Huskers stormed to their nation-leading fifth NCAA crown in 2015, behind National Tenpin Coaches Association Player of the Year Lizabeth Kuhlkin and NCAA Championship Most Valuable Bowler Julia Bond. With 104 tournament titles in 207 competitions through the 201718 campaign including national championship tournaments, Straub has created a dynamic foundation for success for Nebraska bowling. With a world-wide approach to recruiting, Nebraska bowlers have been wellrepresented in national and international competitions. Under Straub, 14 Husker bowlers have qualified for their national teams, including U.S. National Team members Shannon Pluhowsky, Diandra Asbaty (Hyman), Brenda Edwards, Kayla Johnson, Elise Bolton, Lizabeth Kuhlkin and most recently Julia Bond. Recent Huskers Danielle van der Meer (Netherlands), Valerie Calberry (Canada), Shalima Zalsha (Indonesia), Tan Yan Ling (Singapore), Andrea Ruiz (Colombia), Bethany Hedley (England) and Alexandra Mosquera (Colombia). While the Husker team accomplishments have been paramount, numerous bowlers have also enjoyed individual success. NU has had at least one All-American in each of the last 25 years, dating back to the bowling club program days. Since 1989, 32 Huskers have combined for a total of 69 All-America awards, while Kim Berke (1992), Diandra Hyman (2000), Shannon Pluhowsky (2001, 2004, 2005), Lindsay Baker (2006), Amanda Burgoyne (2007), Cassandra Leuthold (2010) and Lizabeth Kuhlkin (2015) were each chosen as the National Collegiate Bowler of the Year. Straub has been a visionary in the sport of college bowling, championing the sport through its club program days and was a natural to become Nebraska’s first varsity head coach in 1997. The first year was historic in several respects, but most important was granting of the first full scholarship in the sport’s history to Jennifer Daugherty, who went on to earn first-team All-America honors in both 1998 and 1999. College bowling has experienced rapid growth in recent seasons, as over 70 schools competed in the 2016-17 season. In 2002, the NCAA announced that bowling would become an NCAA-sanctioned sport, and legislation was approved on April 24, 2003, allowing for the first NCAA Championship in the spring of 2004. Since the NCAA Championship was initiated, NU has captured the title five times in 2004, 2005, 2009, 2013 and 2015 giving NU 10 national crowns in the sport. In the 15 seasons that the NCAA has sanctioned bowling, Nebraska is the only program to have qualified for the NCAA Championship in every season. Most recently, the Nebraska bowling team was crowned the 2015 NCAA champions at Tropicana Lanes in St. Louis, Mo. The Huskers defeated Stephen F. Austin, 4-2, for the crown. Bond was named the Most Valuable Bowler at the NCAA Championships, while Lizabeth Kuhlkin joined Bond on the all-tournament team.

Lizabeth Kuhlkin was the 2015 NTCA Collegiate Bowler of the Year and won three NTCA All-America honors, in addition to leading Nebraska to two national championships.

UNIVERSITY SYSTEM PRESIDENT HANK

BOUNDS, PH.D

UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA PRESIDENT | 4TH YEAR SOUTHERN MISSISSIPPI | 1991 On Jan. 12, 2015, the Board of Regents appointed lifelong educator Hank M. Bounds, Ph.D., as the seventh president of the University of Nebraska. Bounds began his tenure as president on April 13, 2015, bringing with him a demonstrated record of expanding opportunities for students, improving higher education outcomes and efficiencies, and building successful partnerships with policymakers, donors and business leaders. He has continued working to improve educational outcomes and build partnerships since his arrival in Nebraska. Bounds has connected with leaders within the university, in the private sector, in government and in the military to increase collaboration and innovation. In late 2015, he worked with the University of Nebraska Foundation to launch a two-year, $200 million fundraising initiative to increase access and create success for current and future students. In 2015, Bounds also launched a university-wide Food for Health Initiative - the first of several programs designed to increase collaborations across NU and incentivize new research that addresses critical issues important to Nebraskans and result in greater research funding opportunities. Supporting quality teaching is an important focus for Bounds, and in the spring of 2016, he made a $3.5 million strategic investment to hire additional faculty and expand NU’s online course offerings. Bounds also announced late in 2015 that NU’s enrollment had grown to its highest level in 22 years - marking progress toward the Board of Regents’ goals to expand educational access to Nebraskans and attract more talent to the state to meet workforce needs. Bounds grew up in Mississippi. His service in the Army National Guard helped him pay for college, and he earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi and a doctorate from the University of Mississippi. Bounds has devoted his 25-year career to helping change students’ lives in the same way education opened doors in his own life. He began as a high school teacher, then rose to principal, superintendent and state superintendent before becoming Mississippi’s commissioner of higher education in 2009. In that role, he oversaw a complex system of eight public universities. Today, under his leadership, the University of Nebraska enrolls nearly 52,000 students, employes over 13,000 faculty and staff, and operates with an annual budget of $2.5 billion - including $235 million in research expenditures. He has identified four cornerstones that will separate NU from the rest of higher education and define a new era in university history: (1) The University of Nebraska will be the best university in the nation to be a student. (2) The University of Nebraska will transform lives through research and innovation. (3) The University of Nebraska will work hand in hand with our partners to achieve our goals. (4) The University of Nebraska will win with people. Bounds holds a faculty appointment in the College of Education and Human Sciences at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and courtesy faculty appointments in the Colleges of Education at the University of Nebraska at Omaha and the University of Nebraska at Kearney. He serves on the board of directors for several organizations, including the National Association of System Heads (NASH), the Robert B. Daugherty Water for Food Institute, the Nebraska Innovation Campus Development Corporation, the Nebraska Advanced Manufacturing Coalition and the Consultation Committee for U.S. Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM). He is also on the Board of Governors for the Knights of AKSARBEN. He and his wife, Susie, are the parents of a son, Will, and a daughter, Caroline. They reside in Lincoln.

UNIVERSITY BOARD OF REGENTS The Board of Regents consists of eight voting members elected by district for six-year terms, and four non-voting student Regents, one from each campus, who serve during their tenure as student body president. The board supervises the general operations of the university, and the control and direction of all expenditures. The board also includes a corporation secretary who manages all records including agendas, minutes, notices, policies and bylaws. Those documents can be found on the web at nebraska.edu/board/. The board meets regularly, primarily in Lincoln but also in Omaha and greater Nebraska. Persons wishing to provide information to the board or to appear before it should contact: Corporation Secretary, University of Nebraska, Varner Hall, 3835 Holdrege, Lincoln, NE 68583.

PERSONAL

Washington State, B.A. (History, 1973) Family: Kendra (wife); Bo, Benjamin (sons); Christa, Brittany and Kati (daughters) Honor the past. Live the present. Create the future. Nine simple words that carry impressive significance and undeniable responsibility. Words that Nebraska’s new athletic director uses to lead his programs and set the tone for building champions in competition and in life. William H. (Bill) Moos was named Nebraska’s Athletic Director on Oct. 15, 2017, and fully assumed those responsibilities on Oct. 23. Moos, who became the 15th athletic director in the history of the storied Cornhusker program, brings nearly 25 years of experience as an athletic director at three Division I schools (Washington State, Oregon, Montana) with him to Nebraska. More importantly, he brings an impressive track record of success in building outstanding programs, developing long-term relationships, and for doing what is best for his schools, its fans and most importantly, its student-athletes. “When you name the top three, four, five athletic programs in the great positions as an athletic director, Nebraska is in that same breath,” Moos said at his introductory press conference at Memorial Stadium. “I want you to know that my motto has always been, in the 25 years I have been a Division I athletic director and it will be here too is very simple - honor the past, live the present, create the future.” In his first six months at Nebraska, Moos made three coaching hires. He drew universal praise for hiring Scott Frost, the 2017 consensus national coach of the year, as Nebraska’s head football coach in December. Following the spring semester, Moos also hired Mark Hankins to coach the men’s golf team and Sean Maymi to lead the men’s tennis program. Moos also oversaw several team successes in his first six months in Lincoln. He watched the volleyball team win its fifth national title and second in three seasons in December. In 2018, both the men’s and women’s gymnastics teams finished in the top six at the NCAA Championships, while bowling finished third and rifle finished eighth. Nebraska also continued its excellence in the classroom, producing four CoSIDA Academic All-Americans, including three first-team selections. The awards increased Nebraska’s nation-leading total to 333 all-time CoSIDA Academic AllAmericans across all sports.

Moos came to Lincoln after spending seven-plus years at Washington State (2010-17). He previously served 12 highly successful seasons as the athletic director at Oregon (1995-2007). During his time at his alma mater, Moos wasted little time in making his impact felt in Cougar Athletics, spearheading a department-wide rebranding effort with Nike while securing a 10-year, $35 million marketing rights agreement with IMG College. In addition, the 2004 WSU Alumni Achievement Award winner gained Regents *Interim Co-Directors approval for a $130 million addition and remodel of Martin Stadium, featuring a remodeled press box with luxury seating, including suites, loge boxes and club room. Also included in the project was a state-of-the-art video board and an 80,000-squarefoot football operations building that served as the stadium’s showpiece and opened in May 2014. As the dean of Pac-12 athletic directors, Moos was at the forefront of the conference’s procurement of a 12-year, $3 billion television contract with FOX and ESPN, a landmark agreement in college athletics. Under Moos’ direction, the Cougar Athletic Fund’s Annual Giving program saw an 81 percent increase in gifts while CAF donor members rose from nearly 4,000 to more than 7,500. Additional facility enhancements under Moos included a center-hung video board in Beasley Coliseum that was installed prior to the 2011-12 season, giving Cougar basketball one of the premier fan experiences in the conference. An indoor golf hitting facility was also completed in early 2013, and Lower Soccer Field underwent a major renovation making the venue TV-ready while also providing one of the best playing surfaces on the West Coast, along with the addition of lights and a new scoreboard. Other enhancements were made to the Moobery track facility, Bailey-Brayton Field, the basketball practice gym, Gibb Pool and the Simmelink Indoor tennis courts. In Moos’ seven years at WSU, Cougar student-athletes and coaches accounted for 805 academic all-conference selections, 130 all-conference accolades, 45 All-America honors and three Pac-12 Coach-of-the-Year honors. Moos served as Oregon’s director of athletics from July of 1995 to 2007. While at Oregon he oversaw a 17-sport athletic department that grew to national prominence during his tenure.Oregon’s annual athletic department budget grew from $18.5 million in his first year to more than $40 million by 2007, becoming 100 percent self-sufficient during that time. Under his direction the Duck Athletic Fund donor base increased from 4,930 to 12,290, resulting in an annual gifts increase from $4.1 million to $15.3 million. Moos initiated more than $160 million in facility improvements while at Oregon. Included in that was the $90 million Autzen Stadium renovation in 2002, which added 12,000 new seats, 32 new suites, a new Club at Autzen and a new press box to the stadium. In his 12 years, the Ducks ranked first in Pac-10 football attendance 11 times, reaching 100 percent capacity in each of those seasons. During Moos’ tenure, Oregon athletics captured 13 Pac-10 championships across six different sports. He increased opportunities for women by adding two intercollegiate programs, soccer and lacrosse, and negotiated an all-inclusive shoe and apparel contract with Nike, one of only 14 in the country at the time. From an academic standpoint during Moos’ tenure, Oregon student-athletes collected 722 academic all-conference selections, 34 Academic All-America selections, nine NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship recipients and one NCAA Top Ten Award. During his first stint as a collegiate athletic director at Montana (1990-95), Moos created an academic support program and hired its first athletic academic coordinator, developed a facility enhancement plan that created more than $4 million in improvements, and lifted the school’s fund-raising efforts to show a 300 percent increase in private and corporate gifts. Academically, Montana student-athletes were equally successful as the athletic department achieved a graduation rate 20 percent higher than the general university enrollment. Under Moos’ watch Montana garnered 269 academic all-conference selections, five Academic All-Americans and two NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship recipients. Moos began his athletic career as an athletic administrator in 1982 as assistant athletic director at Washington State. He also served as the school’s associate athletic director (1988-90). At Washington State, he was director of development for more than five years and associate director for nearly two years, supervising all external operations. Prior to that, he managed and owned private businesses in Washington and Oregon for eight years. He was a student assistant football coach at Washington State for the 1973 season, then spent part of 1974 in Washington, D.C., serving as a government intern. Raised on a wheat and cattle ranch in eastern Washington, Moos attended high school in Olympia when his father served in the governor’s cabinet. Moos earned his bachelor’s degree in history from WSU and was a three-year letterman in football before concluding his collegiate career by representing Washington State in the 1972 East-West Shrine All-Star Game in San Francisco. He served as co-captain on the Cougars’ 1972 squad and garnered first-team All-Pac-8 Conference honors. Moos and his wife Kendra have three daughters: Christa, Brittany and Kaiti; and two sons, Bo and Benjamin. NEBRASKA’S ATHLETIC DIRECTORS
