D I R E C TO R S N O T E So, dude, like where were you over two decades ago? Jamming to radical tuneage by totally awesome bands like U2, Van Halen, Guns N’Roses, The Pretenders and The Buggles? Hanging with some bodacious babes with big hair and gnarly dudes in mascara? Did your vocabulary include groody to the max, oh my gawd, totally tubular, party time- it’s excellent, I’ve fallen and I can’t getup or where’s the beef? Did you care who killed Laura Palmer or shot JR and Ronald Reagan? Were you chillin’ with Bill & Ted, Crockett & Tubbs, Charles & Diana, Wayne & Garth or Connors & McEnroe? Like, man, the Eighties were HUGE! There was MTV, Madonna, a 40 employee company called Microsoft, The Simpsons, Rubik’s Cube, E.T. The Extraterrestrial, Trivial Pursuit, portable Walkmans that could play an entire albums worth of music , a new disease called AIDS, Chernobyl, murder by Tylenol, the eruption of Mount St. Helens, The Brat pack, thirtysomething, Yuppies, a new subscription service called ‘Cable TV’ that had no commercials, Cheers, and believe it or not, nothing came between Brooke and her Calvins. So, c’mon and check it out. Excellent! Back To The 80’s! 5
C A S T A N D P R O D U C T I O N S TA F F P R O F I L E S Maya Benziger – Ensemble Maya did not grow up in the “Electric Eighties.” She is a New Millennium kid and a 7th grader at Fischer Middle School. Maya enjoys singing (she is a five year member of the Young Naperville Singers), writing, and drawing (mostly pictures of zombies). This is her second musical production with TOTH. Nicole Benziger – Cheerleading Coach/Ensemble Nicole Benziger remembers all of the songs in this musical from the first time they played on FM radio. She spent her high school days in Southern California saying silly things like “rad!” and “totally tubular!” This is her second performance in a TOTH production. Clarence Blake – Ensemble I am 14 years old and I was born in Bronx, New York. My favorite color is blue. Things that I like to do on a daily basis are playing League of Legends, going to the library and playing soccer. I play soccer almost every day. My favorite team is Real Madrid C.F. I love doing theatre because it brings out a sense of character, shows emotion, and feeling. Also theatre is always fun to do. I never get bored because I always have something to do even if it includes sleeping. I love to go outside and see the trees of nature. Strangely if you smell outside at night it smells so refreshing. But I hate grass because there are a bunch of creepy insects out there. Overall life is a great life to enjoy. Matthew Bockus – Mr. Palmer/ Science Teacher/Ensemble Matthew is thrilled to be working with TOTH once more. He was last seen in Jesus Christ Superstar at the Arcada Theatre in St Charles, IL. His all-time favorite role, to date, has been the bass in the barber shop quartet in The Music Man, followed closely by Pop in We Will Rock You. He would like to thank his fellow performers for their friendship and support. He would also like to thank Michael Fudala, KB and Sharon Hand for giving him this opportunity to hone his theatrical skills and making this a memorable experience. A big special thank you goes out to his loving and supportive wife for all of her encouragement during the rehearsal process. Scott Boland – Mr. Stevie Cocker After spending two years studying theatre outside of Illinois, Scott is thrilled to make his return to TOTH. Past roles include Javert in Les Miserables, Roger in RENT, and Jesus of Nazareth in TOTH’s production of The Last Days of Judas Iscariot. He wishes to extend his love and thanks to his family, friends, and his cliche nod to Scott Alan Jones for encouraging him with the quote “Don’t dream it, be it.” 6 Theatre-on-the-Hill
