CEDARBURG! Written by Barbara Joosse, Illustrated by Renée Graef $17.95 plus tax Come on! A little elephant takes you to his favorite place – Cedarburg! Join him as he “rides around the block, to see who’s who, to see what’s what, “catches fireflies (“Twinkleflies on. Twinkleflies off. Stars in a jar is what we’ve got.”) and explores the creepy cemetery (“Oldy moldy graves up here. Oldy moldy bones down there. But no ghosts-nope!”) Rollicking rhymes, familiar scenes and a reassuring ending makes this a story to keep-and share. Book may be purchased at the Cedarburg Cultural Center, ordered online for direct shipping on our website, and at selected retailers and banks throughout Cedarburg. Sponsored by the Greater Cedarburg Foundation, all proceeds from book sales will go towards the new endowment of the Cedarburg Cultural Center.

PERFORMANCE
Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 7:30 pm COPPER BOX Copper Box, according to band member Michelle Jerabek, is “like a Texas tornado that swept through New Orleans and is tearing up the Midwest!” The Oshkosh-based band she shares with her husband Danny Jerabek, Kevin Junemann and Jason Van Ryzin defies easy labels. The Shepherd Express described their style as “accordion-fueled roots rock…incorporating zydeco, cumbia and other styles associated with the cheery, reedy wheeze of button boxes.” In June 2011 Relix Magazine praised the group: “Fronted by Danny and Michelle Jerabek, Copper Box is a genre-bending celebration of fusion roots rock that channels the rowdy communal feel of a small-town party with their gutsy, Americana sound of artists like the legendary Esteban Jordan (the Jimi Hendrix of the accordion), Doug Sahm, Clifton Chenier, Los Lobos and CCR--a must see!” Copper Box has been performing throughout Wisconsin and the Midwest for over 10 years and has been honored with a WAMI (Wisconsin Area Music Industry) award for Americana/ Roots Band of the Year in both 2010 and 2012. www.CopperBoxSite.com $10 Member Advanced • $12 Advanced • $14 Day of Show $125 reserved table of 8 (contact the Center for availability)
January 17, 18 & 19 at 7:30 pm THE DREAM CAFE MUSICAL! “The Dream Cafe Musical!” is a magical, comedic Muse-ical written to entertain the entire family and open our hearts a little more. It’s a story about six people who work on Wall Street in New York City, who find themselves in Rhymeington, Wisconsin, at The Dream Cafe and Spa in order to escape their hurried city lives. Each person has a different reason why they discover this peaceful artistic retreat. “The Dream Cafe Musical!” is written by Katie O’Regan and performed by her and the zany cast and crew of The Dream Cafe and Salon including Katie’s “Singing for Musicals” students. (See class listings for more information.) This musical is dedicated to Julie Wichman who previously embodied the Character of “Pink” the inspirational Muse in this show. Julie who was a magical muse herself, lost her battle with cancer this past August. She lived her young life with vibrant spirit and continues to inspire from beyond. HISTORY
Cedarburg Heritage
Thanks to the foresight of Ed Rappold and Harold Dobberpuhl, Cedarburg has been blessed with a wealth of photographic documentation that has allowed the city to be recognized as a leader in historic preservation. The Cultural Center, in partnership with the Landmarks Preservation Society, seeks to add to our treasured collection—as part of our database of scanned historic photographs— before these gems are lost forever. If your family or business has historic photographs, negatives or slides of the Cedarburg area or its founding families, we invite you to share them with us. Images will be scanned, and the originals will be returned to you. Please give us as much information about the photos as possible so we can pass this information on to future generations in our digital archives. All contributors will receive a 16” x 20” print of an 1892 aerial view of Cedarburg. Please contact Sue Gyarmati at 262-375-3676 to arrange an appointment.

Immerse Your Youth Group Explore Cedarburg with your class, scout troop or other organization on one of the Cultural Center’s Historic walking tours. Two different tours give your group an interactive look into the past. Trained docents guide students on the 2 - 2.5 hour journey through Cedarburg’s National Historic District. Tour A includes a stop at the General Store Museum where display cases and shelves filled with antique merchandise spark the imagination. While walking to the 1849 Kuhefuss House Museum, a scavenger hunt highlights clues left behind by founding fathers. Tourgoers will compare life in early Cedarburg with life today, imagine what the 19th century immigrant journey was like and experience hands-on activities while touring the home. Tour B features a turn-of-the-century classroom, lost tunnels and heavy machine remnants in the Wittenburg Mill, and the path of the Interurban Railroad as it crosses Cedar Creek. Participants will also stop at Cedarburg’s fire department to explore antique fire equipment including a horse drawn pumper. The tour ends with a cartoon at the Rivoli Theater and a tour of the workings of a 1930s theater. Tours are $2 a student per tour. Tours run in May and June but must be scheduled in advance to secure your time slots. Chaperones are required to attend but are free of charge.
