INTERSECTION Unique in its programming, dynamic in its presentation, Intersection has rapidly risen to the top echelon of musical performance. The Trio is currently coming off an immensely successful 2009-10 season of over thirty concerts, their inaugural touring season in the United States. Previously, the group based its career in Japan, where it achieved unprecedented success in the classical/crossover category with charttopping CD and DVD sales, sellout tours, and extensive media coverage (including magazine covers, product endorsements, television commercials). Intersection is known for its breathtaking range and versatility. In addition to the standard classical trio repertoire, its programs include sophisticated new arrangements of light classics, jazz, pop, Latin, Gypsy and film and Broadway scores. Breaking off for various solo and duo performances during the course of a program also adds to the aural variety, and the musicians’ easy conversational interaction with the audience and with each other is a crucial element of the “Intersection experience.” Intersection has commissioned a significant catalog of accessible, contemporary scores by many young composers, including the group’s very own pianist, John Novacek. These works often directly suggest the vitality of the group’s hometown, New York City. Kristina Reiko Cooper - Cello Called “sensational in concert” by the New York Times, and winner of the Naumburg Chamber Music Prize, cellist Kristina Reiko Cooper has performed as a soloist and chamber musician on some of the world’s most distinguished stages. She has been a soloist with the Prague Chamber Orchestra, the Toronto Symphony, the Shanghai Symphony and toured with the 2 Wisconsin Lutheran College
Tokyo Yomiuri Orchestra. She is a frequent performer at such venues as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, LA’s Disney Hall, Jerusalem’s Henry Crown Theater, Radio France, Stuggart’s Beethoven Hall and the Seoul Arts Center. She has also taken part in many festivals including Musicians from Marlboro, the Aspen Music Festival, Bang on a Can All-Stars and the World Expo. Television appearances include CNN, 60 Minutes and the Jerry Lewis Telethon. She has a recital DVD on Amadeus and a new solo CD released by Linus Records. Currently, Kristina is the musical director of the Israel Chamber Music Society and a visiting-professor at Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Israel. She graduated with her B.M., M.M., and D.M.A. from The Juilliard School. John Novacek - Piano Grammy-nominated pianist John Novacek regularly tours North and South America, Europe, and Asia as solo recitalist, chamber musician and concerto soloist, playing at such venues as Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, the Hollywood Bowl, Chicago’s Symphony Center, Paris’ Theatre des Champs-Elysees, and London’s Wigmore Hall and Barbican. He has appeared on television on The Tonight Show and Entertainment Tonight, and has been featured performer and composer on Garrison Keillor’s legendary ‘A Prairie Home Companion’ radio broadcast. Novacek composed and arranged music for the 5 Browns, the Ying Quartet, and the Three Tenors, and he recorded over 30 CDs on labels such as Philips, Nonesuch, and EMI Classics. Laura Frautschi - Violin Violinist Laura Frautschi has pursued a varied career as chamber musician, orchestral concertmaster, recording artist, and champion of new music. In addition to tours of the US with
INTERSECTION Intersection, she performs with the Caramoor Virtuosi, the Metropolitan Museum of Art Chamber Players, and appears at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, and other premier halls in Europe and Asia as concertmaster of the New York City Opera Orchestra and leader of the conductor-less Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. Ms. Frautschi’s discography includes Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, Lee Hyla’s Violin Concerto, 20th century
chamber works by Bernard Rands and Chen Yi, and numerous CDs and DVDs of popular and eclectic repertoire with Intersection. Appearance through arrangements made by ALLIED CONCERT SERVICES 3535 Plymouth Blvd. #212, Plymouth, MN 55447 www.alliedconcertservices.com

PLAY SYNOPSIS The timeless Dickens’ classic A Christmas Carol begins as we meet Ebenezer Scrooge, a man of great wealth, but with little love for life. Scrooge’s assistant, Bob Cratchit, tries to share the spirit of Christmas with his family and pleads with Scrooge for the holiday off. Scrooge is unconvinced about the joys of Christmas. As the evening commences, Scrooge comes face to face with ghosts and frightening visions of his past, present and even his future. On Christmas morning, Ebenezer wakes up a changed man, thanking the spirits who helped him see the real truth about all life has to offer beyond wealth. Scrooge vows to keep the spirit of Christmas in his heart and honor it always. The first step towards a new life begins as old Ebenezer Scrooge sets off for the Cratchit home to make amends with the Cratchit family, including young Tiny Tim. A B O U T T H E AU T H O R Born in 1812, Charles John Huffam Dickens is one of the most popular and widely read authors of all time. His childhood was much like that of one of his early heroes, David Copperfield (1849-1850). Dickens’ father was imprisoned in 1824 for debt, and the young boy was forced to work and to support himself. He went to school only for a short time and was almost entirely self-educated. Dickens was a man of numerous talents. He was an artist (he produced many drawings and sketch books using the pseudonym Boz), an actor and producer (he managed a theatrical company that performed for Queen Victoria), an editor, a social reformist, and first and foremost a novelist. His major works include: Nicholas Nickelby (1837-1838), Dombey and Son (1846-1848), Bleak House (1852-1853), A Tale of Two Cities (1859), Great Expectations (1860-1861), and The Mystery of Edwin Drood (1870) which he was working on when he died of a stroke on June 9, 1870. T H E AT R E I V Theatre IV is a nonprofit, professional touring children’s theatre. Since 1975 they have toured from Wisconsin to Florida and Texas to Maine while also presenting lavish productions in their home city of Richmond, VA. The O’Neill Brothers have sold over 10 million copies of their music and currently sell over 250,000 song downloads every month. The O’Neill Brothers have provided music for NBC, CBS, ESPN, PBS, HBO and have performed over 100 times on QVC TV. Their most recent PBS concert special, “Piano for Someone You Love,” was nominated for an Emmy award, and several of their CDs have topped the Billboard charts. Their wedding CD, A Day to Remember, is the number one selling wedding CD in the USA. Tim & Ryan have played the piano since a young age, but found the appeal of
two brothers playing two pianos while attending Notre Dame. In 1997, they started their own independent record label, Shamrock-n-Roll, Inc. Publications such as the Los Angeles Times, Minneapolis Star Tribune, Southern Bride, and Parenting magazine agree, describing their music as “reflective, soothing, soulful, and stimulating”. They rave about their “keyboard artistry” and love the “enthusiasm and charming character” of the two brothers in concert. Fans nationwide have made successes of the O’Neill Brothers’ albums, including collections of holiday favorites, Irish songs, classic and original love songs, lullabies, movie and Broadway songs, patriotic music, familiar inspirational songs, and wedding music.
