CAST Jeannie Affelder (Mary Meekly) is delighted to return to First Folio where she was seen previously in Jeeves in Bloom and Design for Living (both directed by Alison Vesely). She recently appeared in Heartbreak House at Writers’ Theatre, and as Simone Beck in To Master the Art at TimeLine (both directed by William Brown). Dale Benson (Mayor Meekly) has appeared in hundreds of productions during his long career as a member of Actors’ Equity Association, most recently appearing as Lutz in The Student Prince for Light Opera Works. Gary was recently seen playing a lighthearted parody of the ghost of Hamlet’s father in Ghost Lite in Appetite Theatre’s Bruschetta 2011. Outside of Chicago, some of Gary’s favorite roles have been the prophet Tiresias in the world premiere of Rinde Eckert’s Eye Piece (University of Iowa main stage); Ariel in The Pillowman (Dreamwell Theatre); and Fitch in Albert’s Bridge (EXIT Theatre). Gary guest starred on the CBS series Nash Bridges, and is a proud alumnus of San Francisco’s premiere improv theatre ensemble, Bay Area Theatresports. Tyler Collins (u/s Eric, Agent Frank) is new to First Folio after having just moved to the great city of Chicago from Denver, CO. He holds his Bachelor’s in Music Education from the University of

Laura Leonard Ownby (u/s Karen, Mrs. Meekly) is making her First Folio debut with Unnecessary Farce. Laura is no stranger to the farce, however, having appeared as Belinda Blair in Noises Off – twice – most recently at Theatre at the Center. Some of her all-time favorite roles include Germaine in Picasso at the Lapin Agile, Anna in The Quick Change Room, and Marcelle Cot in Hotel Paradiso (TWS). She has also been seen as Charlie in Goodbye, Charlie and Olive Madison in The Odd Couple (female version) (Vortex Theatre). Other credits include Alma Winemiller in Summer and Smoke, Masha in The Seagull (TWS), Virginia Woolf in A Voice of My Own (Evergreen Theater). Outide of the area, Laura has played Sorrell Bliss in Hayfever (The Station Theater). Before founding First Folio, Alison was the Classics Project Director for Footsteps Theatre, a women’s theater company specializing in
all-female productions of Shakespeare’s plays. Alison worked as the Folio Director and Dramaturge on many productions at Footsteps, including Romeo and Juliet, A Midsommer Night’s Dreame, and Macbeth. She also performed in these productions, earning an After Dark Award for the title role in their production of Macbeth. Other directing credits include Twelfth Night (Wayne State Univ.), Richard III (Hilberry Theatre, Detroit), Richard III (Footsteps and Shakespeare’s Herd at the Chicago Cultural Center), Real Human Dialogue, Riders to the Sea, Kiss Me Kate, and Scrooge. Alison has been an adjudicator for the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival and the Irene Ryan Awards as well as serving a three-year term on the Theater Program Grants Panel for the Illinois Arts Council. She is a proud graduate of Illinois Wesleyan University and a member of the Society for Directors and Choreographers. David Rice (Executive Director, Sound Design) is co-founder (with his wife Alison C. Vesely) of First Folio, where he has produced over 30 shows. Last fall Shelley designed lights for How I Became a Pirate at Homewood Flossmoor High School and she lit Another Night Before Christmas in December at the Theatre at the Center in Munster, IN. Some favorite are The Threepenny Opera and Stalag 17 for American Theatre Company and The Full Monty at The Drury Lane Water Tower. Shelley holds an M.F.A. in Lighting Design from Northwestern University and a B.S. in Mathematics and Theatre from Eureka College. Shelley teaches theatre at Indiana University Northwest and at South Suburban College and will be designing shows for both colleges in April. She and her husband Bruce have 2 girls (Mary and Kathryn) and in her spare time, Shelley is a fitness instructor, a member of the PTO, enjoys riding motorcycles with Bruce and takes great pleasure in working on her 100+ year old home. Beth Zupec (Production Assistant) is excited to be returning to First Folio where she previously assistant stage managed Tea At Five, Romeo & Juliet, Blithe Spirit, The Madness of Edgar Allan Poe, Twelfth Night and Jeeves in Bloom. Previous Chicago credits include stage manager/ assistant director for Apocalypso (Point of Contention) stage manager for The Wind in the Willows (City Lit) The Miracle Worker (Village Players Theatre) rehearsal asst. stage manager/youth supervisor for It’s A Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play (Fox Valley Repertory) assistant stage manager for One Flea Spare (Eclipse) The Marriage of Bette and Boo (Village Players) and stage manager intern for Funk It Up About Nothin’ and Willy Wonka (Chicago Shakespeare Theatre). Beth also served as the casting intern at Chicago Shakespeare Theatre. Beth is a graduate of The University of Kansas.

A R T I S T I C A S S O C I AT E S U P DAT E Lydia Berger last appeared with First Folio as Gertie in Jeeves Intervenes and before that, Queen Elizabeth in Richard III. Recently in Chicago she worked with Silk Road Theatre as Jane in Yellow Face and Luka in Arms and the Man with ShawChicago. This season she can be seen as Lisa in Collected Stories with Rockford’s Artists’ Ensemble, and is delighted to return to First Folio next season as Vivian Duckworth in Jeeves Takes a Bow (which will be her first show with her new husband, and fellow ensemble member, Christian Gray. They will be married this summer!)

Michael F. Goldberg is currently working on a new show centering on the lighting of Michael McNamara and the music of Pantera. He has also been very busy chauffeuring his boys to soccer, basketball and hockey practices/games this winter as well as trying to maintain a backyard ice rink. Michael is very much looking forward to playing Shylock in First Folio’s upcoming production of The Merchant of Venice this summer.
Hayley L. Rice is currently gearing up for the inaugural performance of Focal Point Theater, where she is a company member. She will be seen at First Folio next summer as Nerissa in The Merchant of Venice. Hayley is also a casting associate for First Folio.
Christian Gray last appeared at First Folio as Mercutio in Romeo and Juliet. This season, he has played Tom Wingfield in The Glass Menagerie (Oak Park Festival Theatre), and Jacob Marley in A Christmas Carol (Drury Lane Oakbrook). He is currently playing Androcles in Androcles and the Lion (ShawChicago). Look for his return next season as the effervescent Bertie Wooster in Jeeves Takes a Bow. Elsa Hiltner – See Staff Biography
Kevin McKillip – See Cast Biography Michael McNamara has recently finished work as a consultant on the next edition of the textbook Theatrical Design and Production. He now begins co-authoring the new edition of another textbook, Designing with Light. Michael looks forward to designing FF’s next production, Turn of the Screw, after a Purdue University production of The Beauty Queen of Leenane. He continues as the head of lighting at Purdue.
Nick Sandys appeared last fall in Mourning Becomes Electra for Remy Bumppo and understudied a German-speaking role in Ariadne auf Naxos at Lyric Opera. He was nominated for three 2011 Joseph Jefferson Awards and received a 2011 Achievement Award from The Meier Charitable Foundation For The Arts. Nick also choreographed fights for Lucia di Lammermoor and Boris Godunov at Lyric Opera and Dartmoor Prison at Goodman Theatre. This spring he is choreographing three shows at The Theatre School at DePaul as well as Showboat at Lyric Opera, and looking forward to The Turn of the Screw at First Folio.
Shelley Holland – See Staff Biography Melanie Keller most recently worked with her other theatre company, Signal Ensemble Theatre, on the critcallyacclaimed productions of East of Berlin and The Russian Play by Hannah Moscovitch. She is looking forward to returning to First Folio in March for The Turn of the Screw with fellow Artistic Associate Nick Sandys.
