Cedric So proud of your courage and commitment to the play!

I figured I wouldn’t like you joining theatre. Who knew how much I’d love getting to share the stage with you. I figured watching you perform would just make me miss being on stage. Who knew it’d make me the proudest I’ve ever been to call you my sister. I figured we'd just be together for theatre. Who knew it would bring us so close and make us such good friends. Welcome to the 12 Show Club! Kelly Pippin

D I R E C TO R ’ S N O T E At last! I have wanted to work on PIPPIN since I first saw it on Broadway during my college years. Winner of multiple Tony Awards® for the original, and again for last year’s Broadway revival, PIPPIN is one of Bob Fosse’s best, displaying his singular choreography genius. Crafted during the Vietnam conflict (opening in October 1972, while that war still raged), PIPPIN explores war, love, revolution and other concerns of that era in the context of an historical (but, not really) piece ostensibly set in the time of Charlemagne, 780 CE. That these concerns still haunt us speaks to their universal nature as well as to our inability to find answers to the questions raised. PIPPIN is meant for all of us who yearn for “something completely and utterly fulfilling” – we want to find meaning in our lives and we want it to be so overpowering that it consumes us totally. As a young person then, and as an older person now, this was, and remains, my quest. It’s why I am drawn to theatre, and to teaching – each is all-consuming in its own way. As a young person then (as Pippin was and is, and as are all of our cast, crew and pit orchestra), I would admit no compromise. Today, older, and … well, older … compromise seems inevitable if we want to accomplish even modest objectives. And, yet…. The pull of the Grand Finale will continue to seduce us unless we reconcile ourselves to finding value and fulfillment in the lives we actually lead, rather than in the extravagant, imagined and unattainable expectations that others set for us, or that we set for ourselves. In the meantime, “we’ve got magic to do” so “join us!”

Clara, It has been a wonderful four years watching you grow on the stage. Theatre has been an important part of your life and ours. We will miss you performing in the shows, but are excited for your future goals in life! Love, Dad, Mom, Julia, Maria & Cameron 8
