F R O M T H E D I R E C TO R S C H A I R When it was decided that JPAC would be producing Love Story for the 2013/14 Season, I had no idea how significant a story this was with prior generations. I casually mentioned the title to my mother and her friends, and they stared at me with delight in their eyes, and pleaded for me to get them tickets to the performance. Eager to learn what all the excitement was, I went home and dug out an old copy of the Erich Segal novel from my mother’s bookshelf. I couldn’t put it down. There have been countless love stories told throughout our time, but this one has a special hold on its listeners. The love that Jenny and Oliver develop throughout their story is simple, honest, and pure. It is the quintessential romance, and it is what every relationship aspires to be. Those lucky enough to discover it know that they must work like hell to never let it go. But often events happen that are completely out of our control… Unwanted and unwelcome events that force separation, obliging an end to something that was wonderful. What happens then? Is the power of love strong enough to help us carry on?
