A B O U T L I G H T O P E R A WO R K S LIGHT OPERA WORKS is a resident professional not-for-profit music theater in Evanston, founded in 1980. The company’s mission is to produce and present musical theater from a variety of world traditions. Such works include American, British, Viennese and French operetta, classic American musical theater, as well as contemporary fare. Since its inaugural season in 1981, LIGHT OPERA WORKS continues to be a leader in the United States for the presentation of these historically important and theatrically delightful works of art in productions similar in size and scope to their originals, in modern productions with professional artists and full orchestra. LIGHT OPERA WORKS is a member of the Illinois Arts Alliance, League of Chicago Theatres, National Alliance for Musical Theatre, the Evanston Chamber of Commerce, the Wilmette Chamber of Commerce, Chicago’s North Shore Convention and Visitors Bureau, and is a participant in ChicagoClassicalMusic.com. For a listing of LIGHT OPERA WORKS’ repertoire, and information on past productions, visit our website at www.LightOperaWorks.com. Campagnola, Lulu’s dim sum & then sum, Oceanique, Prairie Moon and Trattoria Demi are the preferred restaurants of Light Opera Works. Special thanks to Whole Foods Evanston for sponsorship of the BRIGADOON opening night reception.

A F E W WO R D S F R O M T H E A R T I S T I C D I R E C TO R Welcome to BRIGADOON, and the beginning of our 2011 season! BRIGADOON was the first big hit for the magical team of Lerner and Loewe, and opened for a very successful Broadway run on March 13, 1947. Choreographer Agnes DeMille won the Tony Award for her magnificent dances, and the show earned the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Musical. Since then, BRIGADOON has experienced an MGM movie makeover, as well as countless stage revivals over the years. It’s easy to see why this magical fairy tale set in the Highlands of Scotland manages to endure: the music is enchanting, the dances are sweeping and dramatic, and above all the story continues to touch us. I’ve known BRIGADOON most of my life, but even after all those years, when Fiona turns and says to Tommy, “I think real loneliness is not bein’ in love in vain, but not bein’ in love at all,” it still gets me every time.
