Announcing the 2013-14 Season… The 2013-14 season is set and ready to go. Our Main Stage Series will feature five outstanding and diverse offerings. Five by Design in Club Swing! opens the season with the songs and music that made the swing era hop. Complete with sets, costumes and a big band, this five member vocal group will dazzle you. The OAC will highlight our own Oktoberfest this fall with the music of Dorf Kappelle, a German band complete with costumes and Alpine horns. Back by popular demand, the holiday season will ring with laughter as John McGivern returns in Home for the Holidays. The Krause Family Band, a folk and bluegrass group that has been regularly featured on Prairie Home Companion and WPR’s Simply Folk will grace the OAC stage. Closing out the series is an outstanding new male a cappella group Home Free. These five guys from Minneapolis are a dynamo of pop, gospel and jazz. The Cabaret Café Series will feature Ida Jo, a talented young fiddle player and vocalist who will bring her down-home charm and unique style of folk music to the cabaret experience. Valentine’s Day weekend will bring back OAC favorite’s The Four Guyz in Dinner Jackets in a Valentine’s Day Special. The final cabaret in March will also bring back the talented PT Gazell and the Side Effects for an evening of blues and jazz. Chef Brian Shoemake will return with a mouth-watering menu to delight the palette. A New Series… Many patrons over the past few years have asked for more theater at the OAC. Beginning in 2013-14 the OAC will offer A Chamber Theater Series all in the intimacy of the Little Theater. In October, the series will present Dr. Marigold’s Prescription with Charles Dickens. This tour de force performance features actor Stephen Parr as Charles Dickens. In February, Milwaukee’s African American, Uprooted Theater Company will present the powerful Truth, based on the life and stories of Sojourner Truth. Comedy Sportz, Visual Arts and our Film Series will all return in 2013-14. BIOGR APHIES BRIAN WICKLUND Brian has been an integral part of the acoustic music scene for decades. As a teenager, he won dozens of fiddle contests and has toured internationally. In addition, he is a busy studio musician and producer with dozens of projects to his credit. He teaches fiddle and mandolin at camps throughout the US, UK, Canada and Sweden. He is a founder and contributor to Bluegrass College – an online learning resource for bluegrass players of all skill levels. JOE CRUZ Joe is regarded as one of the most versatile and energetic multi-stringed instrumentalists on the Twin Cities music scene today. Throughout his 30+ year career, this passionate musician has been involved with numerous groups and recording projects, developing a vast array of styles. On any given night he can be found playing anything from solo acoustic guitar to screaming electric, swinging with a jazz combo, picking mandolin and guitar in a bluegrass band or exploring Latin music on Cuban trés and Puerto Rican cuatro. Also a composer, Joe has an extensive repertoire of original song and instrumental compositions. In addition to his musical talents, Joe is an accomplished wood turner and furniture builder. KEVIN ROWE Kevin is a bright new talent in the Twin Cities music scene. A recent graduate of the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire with a degree in upright bass performance, he is as comfortable in a symphony as he is in a jazz combo, rock band or bluegrass group . He has toured with the band Fat Maw Rooney and artists such as Roy Wooten (aka Futureman), Kofi Burbridge, Ray White, and Norton Wisdom. He has also performed with some incredible jazz artists including Benny Green, Carl Allen, Maria Schneider, Byron Stripling, and Stanley Jordan. In addition to teaching private lessons and workshops, Kevin is a songwriter and composer, performing his original works with the group Cardboard Dreams. He is excited to come home to Oconomowoc where he grew up and went to OHS. JOEL ARPIN Joel adds his virtuosic percussion on cajon and hand drums. As a freelance musician Joel performs many styles of music including: jazz, pop, classical, modern and world music styles such as African, Afro-Cuban, and Brazilian. Joel regularly works as an accompanist for a variety of dance classes and is on staff at the Theater and Dance department of the University of Minnesota. Joel holds a degree in Percussion Performance from the University of Wisconsin and teaches private lessons, group classes and workshops in a variety of schools and corporations.
