SYNOPSIS A malevolent Shape circles the stage, singing about heaven and hell. Joe McCandless lingers in the Dreamland Café, remembering the events of his life. Joe is urged to action by the friendly bartender. In 2007, he goes to his family cabin in Darkland County, MS where his brothers died in 1967, to tell his own sons Frank and Drake his tale of brotherly love gone sour. Frank and Drake’s relationship is also under a strain. Drake stayed home after high school to play with a local band while working as a mechanic. Frank, a college boy, will be rich after selling the paperback rights to his novel. Plus Anna, Frank’s girlfriend, used to be with Drake. Monique, the boys’ mother, tries to find a way for them all to get along. With his sons at each other’s throats, Joe’s story will save or destroy the McCandless family.

GHOST BROTHERS OF DARKLAND COUNTY This extraordinary collaboration, 13 years in the making, is a haunting tale of fraternal love, lust, jealousy and revenge, which will be performed by an ensemble cast of 15 actors and a four-piece live band. The macabre story will feature a chorus of actors and singers, with musicians featuring members of Mellencamp’s band. The staging of Ghost Brothers will be an amalgam of different styles: both old fashioned, resembling in many ways an old-style radio show; and yet modern and unique in its interactive use of actors, singers and musicians in order to move the Ghost Brothers story forward by incorporating a mix of storytelling, music and singing.
BIOGRAPHIES STEPHEN KING (Libretto) made his first professional short story sale in 1967 to Startling Mystery Stories. Throughout his career, Stephen has taken on innovative challenges and made publishing history such as being the first well- known writer to publish e-books and the only writer to have 6 books on the New York Times best-seller list in the same week. He has received numerous literary awards including being the 2003 recipient of The National Book Foundation Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters. Stephen lives in Maine and Florida with his wife, novelist Tabitha King. An accomplished painter, his work is on exhibit this spring in a one-man show at the Tennessee State Museum in Nashville, and at Butler Institute of American Art beginning November 3, 2013 through January 12, 2014.
