CAST BIOGR APHIES AMY J. CARLE (Corryn) makes her Profiles Theatre debut with Gidion’s Knot. Chicago credits include The Book Thief, Animals Out of Paper, Sex With Strangers, and Hedda Gabler with Steppenwolf Theatre; North China Lover, Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo, Peter Pan, and Trust with Lookingglass Theatre; Season’s Greetings with Northlight Theatre; Orlando at Court Theatre; The Sins of Sor Juana, Rock ‘N’ Roll and Desire Under the Elms at The Goodman Theatre; and Refuge (Jeff Nomination) with CollaborAction. A founding member of the now disbanded Roadworks Productions, Amy appeared in their productions of Ecstasy, WAS, The Planets, The Lights (Jeff Nomination) and many others. Regional credits include Fully Committed and The Diary of Anne Frank with Madison Repertory Theatre; Morning Star with Kansas City Repertory Theatre. She appeared Off-Broadway in the National Tour of The Vagina Monologues and her television credits include Boss on STARZ, Chicago Code on FOX, Law & Order and CRISIS on NBC and The Guiding Light on CBS.
LAURA HOOPER (Heather) is ecstatic to make her debut with Profiles Theatre in Gidion’s Knot. She has been an actor and director for over 15 years and has worked with numerous theatre companies including Famous Door, Stage Left, American Theater Company and the Alley Theatre. Laura is a Pine Box Theatre company member where she appeared in Hot N’ Throbbing and NEED/ Hedges 3, directed by K. Todd Freeman. She was also recently seen as Molly in the Midwest premiere of The Revenants at WildClaw Theatre. In the Fall of 2013, Laura directed The Intruder at Step Up Productions, The Monroe County Pumpkin Queens at WildClaw Theatre and House of Yes at The University of Chicago. She is a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin, with a B.A. in Theatre and Dance and attended The School at Steppenwolf where she eventually returned as a Meisner instructor. She has also taught at The University of Chicago, Columbia College and The High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. Laura is the proud owner and co-founder of Black Box Acting.
P R O D U C T I O N S TA F F JOHNNA ADAMS (Playwright) received a Steinberg/American Theatre Critics Association Citation in April 2013 for her play Gidion’s Knot. She is the 2011 recipient of the Princess Grace Award and a 2012 Finalist for the Susan Smith Blackburn Award. Gidion’s Knot was published in the December 2012 edition of American Theatre Magazine. The Contemporary American Theatre Festival premiered Gidion’s Knot in Shepherdtown, WV, in summer of 2012 and twelve regional 4

productions are planned around the country for the 2013-14 season in addition to Profiles’ Midwest premiere including productions at InterAct Theatre (Philadelphia), Kitchen Dog (Dallas), Stages (Houston) and Furious Theatre Company (Los Angeles). Flux Theatre Ensemble produced her play Sans Merci in spring of 2013 and the script was nominated for a New York Innovative Theatre Award for Best Play. Her play Skinless was developed at the 2012 MFA Playwrights’

Workshop at the Kennedy Center and read at Rattlestick (New York) in winter of 2012. Her play Lickspittles, Buttonholers, and Damned Pernicious Go-Betweens was produced by Impetuous Theatre in autumn of 2013. Johnna’s plays Angel Eaters, Rattlers, 8 Little Antichrists, Sans Merci, Cockfighters and The Sacred Geometry of S&M Porn are published by Original Works Publishing (originalworksonline. com) and a forthcoming edition of Gidion’s Knot will be published by Dramatists Play Serivce, Inc. Johnna graduated from the DePaul University Theatre School with a BFA in Acting and received a 2012 MFA in Playwriting from Hunter College with Tina Howe. JOE JAHRAUS (Director) is an Artistic Director and founder of Profiles Theatre where he most recently directed the Midwest Premieres of In God’s Hat by Rhett Rossi and The Dream of the Burning Boy by David West Read. His other directing credits with Profiles include the Midwest Premiere of Sweet and Sad by Richard Nelson, the American Premiere of In a Forest, Dark and Deep by Neil LaBute, Profiles’ World Premiere of Assisted Living by Deirdre O’Connor and Midwest Premieres of Fifty Words by Michael Weller, Jailbait by Deirdre O’Connor, The Mercy Seat by Neil LaBute, Great Falls by Lee Blessing, The Thugs by Adam Bock and the World Premiere of Kid Sister by Will Kern. Joe directed the American Premiere of Apple by Vern Thiessen and the longrunning hit Fat Pig by Neil LaBute for which he received a Jeff Award Nomination for Outstanding Director. He directed the Jeff Award-winning Blackbird, Babylon Gardens, the Jeff Award-nominated Carnal Knowledge and Sexual Perversity in Chicago. Joe was the co-director of Profiles’ productions of The Water Engine, The Twilight Zone: The Series and How the Other Half Loves.
DANICA JENELLE HORTON (Assistant Director) is thrilled to be making her Chicago debut with Profiles. She is a co-founder of The Heroes Production Company in Seattle, Washington, and an artistic associate with the Lovewell Institute for the Creative Arts based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Danica holds an undergraduate degree in Directing from UNC Greensboro and a Masters in Education in Interdisciplinary Arts from Nova Southeastern University. GARTH MORITZ (Stage Manager) is excited to be working on his first production with Profiles Theatre. He graduated from the University of Arkansas with degrees in Drama and Math. Brand new to Chicago, his other stage management credits include Christmas Dearest with Hell in a Handbag productions and Ragtime with The Unity Event in Highland, Indiana. KATIE-BELL SPRINGMANN (Set Designer) is thrilled to be designing her first show with Profiles Theatre. Originally from New Orleans, Katie-Bell is now a freelance scenic designer and scenic artist here in Chicago. Most recently, she designed Reefer Madness at Circuit Playhouse on the Square in Memphis, Tennessee. Other design credits include the Heritage Theatre Festival’s Annie Get Your Gun and The Marvelous Wonderettes as well as Live Arts Theatre’s Superior Donuts and Speech and Debate in Charlottesville, Virginia. In Chicago, some scenic artist credits include her work with Crosstown Scenic, Profiles Theatre, Black Ensemble Theatre, Step Up Productions, and Griffin Theatre. Katie-Bell received her MFA in scenic design from University of Virginia. JACOB PURALEWSKI (Technical Director) returns to Profiles Theatre after serving as technical director for their production of Wrecks. Most recently, he worked as Gidion’s Knot

load-in carpenter with Lookingglass for their production of The Prince. Outside of Chicago, he worked with Chautauqua Theater Company in upstate NY. While there, he was a carpenter for Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Clybourne Park and Comedy of Errors. Before working at Chautauqua, he finished a BA in Technical Theater at Elon University. While at Elon he worked as technical director on Beautiful Bodies and A Man of No Importance and assistant technical director or shop foreman for August: Osage County, The Wild Party, Cloud 9 and Crazy for You. MIKE DURST (Lighting Design) is an Artistic Associate of Profiles Theatre and recently designed designing lights for their Midwest premieres of In God’s Hat, The Dream of the Burning Boy, Sweet and Sad and Hellcab (2012 and 2013 productions). Lighting design for other Chicago theatres include Lookingglass Theatre, A Red Orchid Theater (Ensemble Member), About Face, Theater Wit, Pegasus Players, Adventure Stages, and others. Other work includes Better Angels (Eli Broad PAC, Santa Monica) starring Dustin Hoffman, James Cromwell and Amy Ryan, Pete Townshend in concert at La Jolla Playhouse, X, Live in Los Angeles at The House of Blues and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia: The Nightman Cometh National Tour. In New York City, credits include Splitting Infinity (Summer Play Festival), Stock Home at NYC Fringe and Off-Broadway with Extinction at Cherry Lane (Red Dog Squadron) and Secrets of the Trade with Primary Stages at 59e59. Mike has received Chicago’s Jeff Award (Equity Wing), Los Angeles’s Ovation Award, and San Diego’s Craig Noel Award. RAQUEL ADORNO (Costume Design) is an Artistic Associate of Profiles Theatre and recently designed costumes for their productions of In God’s Hat, In the Company of Men, The Dream of the Burning Boy and Hellcab (2012 and 2013 productions). previous credits include The BenchMark with Step Up Productions, Cowboy Mouth for Black Ribbon Theater, Patria Libre for Prologue Theatre Company, The AllAmerican Genderf*ck Cabaret for Pride Films and Plays and Starting Here, Starting Now for Theo Ubique Cabaret Theater. Raquel is a designer and stylist living in Chicago. JEFFREY LEVIN (Sound Designer) is an Artistic Associate of Profiles Theatre and has worked as their resident composer and sound designer for three seasons. His most recent Profiles work includes both productions of Hellcab, In God’s Hat where he served as composer and sound designer as well as performing live guitar, and In the Company of Men for which he received a Jeff Nomination for Sound Design. Other Profiles credits include The Dream of the Burning Boy, After, Sweet and Sad, In a Forest, Dark and Deep, Bachelorette, Assisted Living, A Behanding in Spokane, Fifty Words, reasons to be pretty, Kid Sister, and Jailbait. In addition to his work with Profiles, Jeffrey composes music, creates sound designs, provides musical direction, and plays piano for various Chicago venues and theatre organizations. Outside of his theatre work, Jeffrey recently received a Masters of Music in contemporary classical composition at DePaul University and also teaches music theory and musicianship at DePaul, the Merit School of Music and for private students. TWO BIRDS CASTING (Casting Directors) assists theatre companies and producing entities without an in-house casting team by facilitating the casting process. Founded in 2010 by Hannah Fenlon, Erika Grammel, Jessica Lind and Erica Sartini, 2BC has served as casting directors for About Face Theatre, Collaboraction Theatre Company, New Leaf Theatre, Signal Ensemble Theatre Wit, and Immediate Theatre.
