D I R E C TO R ’ S N O T E S The Madrigal Dinner is a performance piece that has come to be known as the traditional dinner theater of the Renaissance. A gathering of the community to drink, eat, and sing, madrigals brought out the secular music of the people, “folk music” if you will. Contemporary madrigals often revive these beautiful songs in a particular form which includes a toast (Wassail), a dinner (The Boars Head), a king and queen gathered at court, and the noble fools singing and performing as a merry band.

They told stories of love both reverently and irreverently, often at the same time. We hope you will enjoy this walk through Renaissance and contemporary folk music, especially in the season of yuletide. Enjoy with us our toast for your well being this season, and the pleasure of food, drink, and song all joined together in the spirit of the madrigal.

CAST BIOGR APHIES Sarah Grant: (Ensemble) Sarah is thrilled to be on the Theo Ubique stage for the first time! Other Chicago credits include Godspell (Provision Theatre), Church/ Pullman, WA (Red Tape Theatre), Ephemera (Polarity Ensemble Theatre), and Bah, Humbug! at Piccolo Theatre where she is an ensemble member. She has also worked at Theatre Seven, The Inconvenience, and The House Theatre. Offstage, she pursues new play development, as the current producer of the Dionysos Cup Festival of New Plays at Polarity Ensemble Theatre. She holds an M.A. in the Humanities from the University of Chicago.

Tom Chiola: (Ensemble) Tom is extremely happy to be in his first production with Theo Ubique. He has worked with Pride Films and Plays in the musical Under A Rainbow Flag, BoHo Theatre in Icarus, Bailiwick Chicago in Fucking Men, Steep Theatre in The Knowledge and Remy Bumppo in Seascape. Molly Kral: (Ensemble) Molly is excited to make her Theo Ubique debut! She was recently seen as Ramona in Zombie Prom at the Mayne Stage. Missy Aguilar: (Ensemble) Missy is excited to be a part of her first show at Theo with A VERY MERRY MADRIGAL! Missy was last seen in the ensemble & U/S Abuela Claudia out at the Paramount Theatre with IN THE HEIGHTS & the year-long run of GIRLS NIGHT: THE MUSICAL with EEI. Other credits include SPAMALOT’ (NightBlue, JPAC) and Whistle Down the Wind (JPAC). In addition to performing, Andrew also teaches at John Hersey and Rolling Meadows High Schools. PRODUCTION BIOGR APHIES David Heimann: (Director): David is thrilled to be associated with Theo Ubique Cabaret Theatre Company. Having now worked with the company for 10 years, he has executed roles from featured performer, to lighting designer, to choreographer, to director and a lot of jobs in the background associated with running a theatre. His directorial credits at Theo include the hit show Time after Time: The Songs of Jule Styne and The Man of La Mancha, but he cherishes the fun times of creating with Artistic Director Fred Anzevino as he did this past summer when David choreographed the hit show A Cole Porter Songbook. Thanks to Nicole for her love and companionship. AMDG Aaron Benham: (Arranger/Music Director) Aaron returns to Theo after A Cole Porter Songbook and Time After Time: The Songs of Jule Styne. BFA, Emerson College. Jeremy Ramey: (Music Director / Pianist) Jeremy is a concert pianist, conductor and music director based in Chicago. He was awarded the non-equity Jeff Award for music direction for his work on “Light in the Piazza” in 2012 and again in 2013 for Smokey Joe’s Cafe. Some of his favorite music directing projects include Altar Boyz at Downtown Drury Lane, Hats! with Grammy award winner Melissa Manchester and Tony nominated director Lynn TaylorCorbett, Forever Plaid at Drury Lane Oakbrook and C’est la Vie at Light Opera Works. Jeremy was also the music director for both the world premiere and Wisconsin premiere of Adding Machine. He received his training in piano performance at Rhodes College, Northwestern University and The Juilliard School of Music. He

has taught at Northwestern University, Columbia College, Loyola University and the University of Memphis. He is also the music director at Unity Church on the Northshore in Evanston, Illinois Adam Veness: (Scenic Designer) Adam designed Some Enchanted Evening, Starting Here Starting Now, Pump Boys and Dinettes, Aspects of Love, and received a 2012 Jeff nomination for his design of The Light in the Piazza. He designed H.M.S. Pinafore, Oliver, Man of La Mancha, Camelot, The Secret Garden and others for Light Opera Works where he has served in a technical capacity for more than 20 productions. His work has been seen on stages throughout the region, including Metropolis Theater, Seanechai Theater, Fox Valley Repertory Theater, Writers’ Theater, Northwestern University Opera Theater, the Gift Theatre, Studio BE, and Northbrook Theater for Young Audiences. He is proud to be a part of Theo Ubique, the best theater company in Chicago. Brian Hoehne: (Lighting Designer) Brian is excited to be returning to Theo Ubique after previously designing Chess and Taming of the Shrew. Recent designs include: White Tie Ball (Teatro Vista); Pirates of Penzance, The Mikado (G&S Opera Company); Lucky Stiff in Concert, The Baker’s Wife in Concert (TMTC); Spamalot, Buddy!, The Producers, West Side Story (Timber Lake Playhouse). Brian has served as an assistant designer for productions with Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, Goodman Theatre, Marriott Lincolnshire, Broadway Playhouse, ATC, and Long Wharf Theatre. Paige Keedy: (Production Stage Manager) was the production manager at Light Opera Works for more than ten years, where she helped produce over forty productions. She was production manager for the Chicago Improv Festival for a number of seasons where she oversaw shows in as many as eight venues simultaneously. She also designs costumes, make-up and prop-

erties and teaches assorted workshops for children. Shoiji Tabuchi, the Oak Ridge Boys, the Rockettes and the Miss USA Pageant are a few of the wide variety of entertainers and productions she has been a part of prior to coming to Chicago. This is her sixth show with Theo Ubique. Fred Anzevino: (Artistic Director) Fred is CoFounder/Artistic Director for Theo Ubique Cabaret Theatre Company. Since 1997 under Fred’s leadership Theo Ubique has grown into one of the most successful non equity theatre companys in Chicago presenting several critically acclaimed productions earning over 30 non equity Jeff Awards including Best Director Awards for Mr. Anzevino’s staging of Cabaret, Evita, Chess and The Light in the Piazza. A proud member of the Glenwood Ave. Arts District and the recipient of the 2013 Rogers Park Community Councils “Best Business Award” shared with LifeLine Theatre, Boho and the side project. A very special thank you to the terrific Madrigal team, the Theo board and our generous loyal patrons. Enjoy! Adam Webster: (General Manager) Adam is pleased to serve Theo Ubique for a second season. He is also in his 14th season as Founding Artistic Director of fellow Rogers Park theatre company, the side project, winner of the 2009 Emerging Theatre Award. Adam has directed over 40 shows in Chicago, for companies such as the side project, Bruised Orange, Tympanic, Right Brain Project, New Leaf, Hobo Junction, WBEZ and the Chicago Humanities Festival, among others. Also a playwright, his plays have received productions and readings in Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, Portland, Oregon and internationally. Next summer, he will direct two Midwest premieres for the side project: Hello Failure, by Kristen Kosmas and Mike and Seth, by Daniel Talbot.

Theo Ubique began producing in 1997, first at the Heartland Studio Theatre, and then in 2004, at Michael James’s No Exit Café, where it began focusing on musicals and revues, reigniting the cabaret theatre trend in Chicago. Since then, Theo Ubique has produced 40 shows and received 30 Jeff Awards and 3 After Dark Awards. The name THEO UBIQUE (pronounced thee-oh oo-bah-kway) is a combination of Greek and Latin words reflecting the company’s mission to engage actors and audience in an intimate and honest conversation with great theatrical works.
