STEVE FIDYK Jazz drummer, author, and columnist Steve Fidyk, has earned national and international acclaim as an artist. He is a member of The U.S. Army Blues Jazz Ensemble, leads his own quintet - The Parlour Project, and free-lances with vocalist Maureen McGovern. Fidyk has performed and recorded with Wayne Bergeron, John Clayton, Wycliffe Gordon, Tim Hagans, Slide Hampton, Sean Jones, Brian Lynch, Maureen McGovern, James Moody, New York Voices, Dick Oates, Arturo Sandoval, Doc Severinsen, Terell Stafford, and Tim Warfield. With Maureen McGovern, he has performed with orchestras throughout the country including The Cincinnati Pops, Spokane Symphony, Nashville Symphony, Plano Symphony, The Baltimore Symphony, The Buffalo Philharmonic, The Richmond Symphony, and the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon Big Band. His discography as a co-leader includes: Big Kids (U.S. Roots), A Perfect Match (Write Groove), and Live at Blues Alley (OA2). A committed educator, Fidyk is currently a member of the Jazz Studies faculty at Temple University, and a consultant for Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Essentially Ellington Program. He has authored several drum methods to include The Drum Set SMART Book, Jazz Drum Set Independence 3/4, 4/4, and 5/4 Time Signatures, Inside the Big Band Drum 6

His latest book Big Band Drumming At First Sight (Alfred), provides detailed information to help students with their drum set sight-reading skills. As a columnist, he contributes on a regular basis to Jazz Drummer’s Workshop (Modern Drummer Magazine), and Percussion Workshop (Teaching Music).
