INSIDE THE EFL As I sit down to pen my final Inside the EFL column for 2017, it’s a time for reflection on the year that has gone by so quickly and what is in store for us over the next two weeks. With South Croydon and Blackburn in the Div 1 prelim, one new club will make its Phil Murton way to the EFL’s biggest stage EFL Chief Executive Officer in what is an exciting time for both clubs. As we saw with the Bulldogs in the AFL last year, new teams in grand finals brings with it a sense of energy and excitement that maybe wains over time for clubs who experience it regularly. With both clubs having large, passionate supporter groups, the prelim shapes as a terrific game in front of a big crowd. Knox and Donny East battle it out in what should be a great Div 2 grand final, while Park Orchards look to create history winning their first ever senior premiership against the fast-finishing Heathmont, who looked to have peaked at the right time. Watching the draw and extra time in the AFL last weekend, I wouldn’t be surprised with a close result in one of our games this weekend. We’ve already had one draw in a reserves final this year already. Talk to anyone from clubs who has been involved in the introduction of a female team at their club, either at senior or junior level, and they’ll tell you it’s been a wonderful experience. Having been the main administrator of the Deakin University Eastern Region Women’s Competition this year, I echo their sentiments completely. The spirit in which the games have been played, the cooperation of all involved off-field, it has been a genuine collaboration from everyone involved. Sunday’s grand final was a fantastic culmination of a great season and congratulations to Bayswater for their grand final victory, and also to Waverley Blues who were gallant in defeat. As with any new competition there always areas to improve, but 2017 has laid some great foundations for the continued growth of senior women’s footy in Melbourne’s east and ranges. The veterans grand final also showed how footy clubs
can be a great place to bring families together. Seeing the many kids walk up on the dais with their dad to receive the premiership medal, it hopefully inspires and encourages them to play our great game also. A big thanks to all those who have umpired throughout season 2017. It’s an important and often thankless task. And to those who have umpired finals, from what I’ve observed so far, they have done a terrific job. But the job isn’t finished yet and as players are aiming to, you need to finish the year on a positive note by performing your task admirably. As the competition has grown, so too has our demand for umpires and finding competent umpires for every game continues to be a challenge in all disciplines. To anyone out there who have ever thought of giving umpiring a go, I’d encourage you to do so. Between junior boys or girls, senior men’s, senior women’s and even netball, there’s a wide variety of opportunities. I read with interest NRL CEO Todd Greenberg’s comments last Monday regarding criticism surrounding umpiring decisions by some coaches. It followed an exciting round of NRL finals in which every game went down to the wire, and in Greenberg’s words, “Unfortunately we’ve developed a culture in our game of blaming match officials for a loss. It sets a terrible example to fans and a terrible example to grassroots and it’s got to stop. It’s time for the game to grow up.” They are strong words and in my opinion spot on. As someone who watches lots of footy as an independent observer, the umpires are never as bad as either team believes and if they paid every free kick both teams thought they entitle to, then you could guarantee at the end of the game both sides would say it’s the worst game of footy they’ve been a part of. As I watch teams I have an interest in now, I’ve got a rule of thumb I try and stick to. Don’t ask (yell out) for a free kick/foul unless you’d be happy for that same free kick/foul to be paid against your team. If you look to critique the men in white this week, maybe ask that question to yourself. To everyone involved in EFL footy this season, thanks for your contribution and I hope to see you back next year. And to those still in contention for 2017, best of luck for what should be an exciting 12 final games.

against Lilydale at the weekend, but we’ve had three good teams this year, so I think that puts us in a pretty good place to go straight back up.” As we very well know premierships aren’t just about the players and the coach. Despite having been a first division club for a few years, the Knox faithful haven’t tasted success for a while. A win this weekend would be special for those proud Knox people. “We are a very lucky club in terms of the level of support we get, the last month or so the place has been buzzing,” Madigan said. “I think the committee, the people with Thursday night dinners, the people that are there every week riding every bump and bruise, there is a pretty big contingent of people that would be extremely happy to see the siren go with us in front on the scoreboard come Saturday afternoon.” Doncaster East needed to bounce back after a disappointing loss to Knox in the second semi a fortnight ago and bounce back they did. The Lions won three out of four quarters against the Mustangs in a massive 57-point victory to set up another clash with the Falcons this weekend. Coach Steve Buckle was pleased with the way his side carried themselves throughout last week, epitomised by their performance on Saturday. “We needed to respond and we needed a strong response after the rubbish we dished up against Knox the week before…a major focus was that we started well and put all our energy into that game,” Buckle said. “A big focus and key phrase around the group was ‘Bring the heat’ which is something we’ve done for most of the year. We aimed to bring it on Saturday and we did, started really, really well, lull in the second but managed to find our feet again in the third.” The best offensive unit in the competition this season, the Lions forward line has plenty of viable goal kicking options. Thomas Gordon has 50 goals for the year, which has also seen him pull in two BOG games in recent weeks against Wantirna South and Knox. His fellow big man Jake Summers has kicked 23 for the season from just 14 games. Smalls Jack Sholakis with 23 goals, (five last week) and skipper Nick Batsanis has 22 goals whilst James Locke has slotted through 18. Locke has been in www.efl.org.au
the Lions’ best 10 times this year and has found himself there the last four weeks on the trot. Unlike their opponents, the Lions have been to the big dance in recent history. They lost to cross- town rivals Doncaster in the 2015 decider and made the finals in 2016. Buckle will be using that loss from 2015 as extra motivation for those players who remain on the list. “I think that finals stuff goes out the window a little bit because they’ve been playing first division football which is played at a higher intensity, which finals is played at, so it cancels out our finals experience,” he said. “To the guys who were around for that year (2015), I’ll be touching base with them throughout the week. “We are probably looking at about 40% of the list still running around (and) I’ll give them a friendly reminder of how it felt and try to squeeze and extra five percent out of them, which will put us on the right track.” Unlike Knox, Doncaster East is not bouncing straight back up. They’re trying to finally claim their place in the pinnacle of the Eastern Football League, Division 1. It would be a massive achievement for a club who would be considered ‘small’ in local footy circles. “It’d be huge. That’s been the goal from the start, it’s not a hugely supported club, but the blokes that are here, put in a hell of a lot of time, it would be great reward for them,” Buckle said. “I’d expect to see a lot of tears if we end up victorious this weekend.” This weekend sees the two best attacking teams in the competition go head to head, neither one of them looking to pull any punches. In the red corner stand Knox, seasoned veterans who know what it takes to make it at the next level. In the blue corner is Doncaster East, the constant challenger who keep knocking at the door, ready to push it down and storm its way up a division. The winner gets themselves back in the big leagues, whilst the loser must dust themselves off and go once again. No matter what happens, this fight is going the distance. 7

Nicholas Handley, Michael Philp and Michael Prosenak (who is set to return this week after two weeks out) have all kicked over 35 goals for the season and this highlights the fact they don’t need to rely on just one or two key forwards to hit the scoreboard. “An even spread is a real positive for us. It helps us to spread the load and no one guy has to be the one to kick five, six, seven goals to win the game for us,” Feher said. “It shows that the guys actually work really well together and that they are unselfish. “Playing in the midfield if you look up, you’re pretty confident you can kick to one of the three big forwards we’ve got.” Looking ahead to Sunday, Feher is wary of Heathmont’s momentum after last weeks comeback victory and their ability across the middle of the ground. “They’ve got a lot of really good midfielders, guys like (Tom) Rouke and (Brent) English who have a lot of experience playing senior footy.” “They’re a very skilful side but they are also very good in the clinches.“ The Jets have been outstanding during the finals, coming from fifth to progress through to the big dance after just scraping into the top five in the final minutes of the home and away season with Templestowe defeating Boronia in Round 18. President Rob Parker couldn’t be prouder of the team’s attitude over the course of the finals series. “Being given that opportunity to play finals once Templestowe got up, the boys have really grabbed it and really driven with it,“ Parker said. “Their whole focus has been we’ve just got to take every chance we get.” After winning two knockout finals, Heathmont’s season looked like it was coming to a disappointing end at quarter time in the preliminary final against Ringwood, trailing by 36 points at the first break. However, the Jets never say die attitude shone through and they got themselves right back in the game before getting the job done in the last quarter when it mattered most. “They are certainly playing with emotion with their backs to the wall,” Parker said. “They’ve just taken everything on and they’ve become tighter as a group as each game www.efl.org.au
progresses and I guess Sunday’s result just shows you that even if we’re behind, we can actually grit it out and turn a game around.” Heathmont’s more experienced heads in Jarrod Spurrell off half back and Brent English in the midfield as well as Tom Rourke and his clearance work helped take control of the game in the comeback victory. Having these top end players in great form is vitally important in the lead up to a grand final. The sides leading goal kicker in Kevin Clark and key forward Ben Abbruzzese combined for six goals between them with four of these six coming when the game was up for grabs in the final term. Having two very dangerous forwards that are contrasting in height and attributes pose as a serious threat to the Park Orchards defence. “Clark is opportune. He can crumb or he can lead and take marks and he is pretty deadly with that left foot,“ Parker said. “Ben has just been a really good pick up for the club. He’s big, strong and he holds the ball in and doesn’t let it out of the forward line too easily.” The support from the Heathmont fans has been an enormous part of the Jets culture this finals series and the crowd was in full voice during the tense last term against Ringwood. Parker believes the support from the club and its fans can inspire and will on the playing group. “You don’t realise what the noise and the support can give to players on the ground,” he said. “We want a really big contingent of Jets people there to support the team and get around them on Thursday night and just be involved in the atmosphere of grand final week.” In terms of the game itself, getting first hands on the footy and winning the contested ball will be the key for both Park Orchards and Heathmont. Both sides like to run in waves through the middle of the ground and spread with the use of hands and the side that is able to win the ball in tight will be able to release and use this run and spread more often. No matter what the result may be, the fact that both sides play a fast, exciting brand of football means everyone at East Burwood Reserve or watching live on EFL.org.au this Sunday are sure to witness a terrific, high standard Division 3 grand final. 9

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED By: Megan Hustwaite Twitter: @MeganHustwaite Bayswater created history at Lilydale last Sunday when it etched itself into EFL history books. The Waters defeated Waverley Blues by 11 points in an absorbing Grand Final to win the inaugural Deakin Uni Eastern Region senior women’s flag. Victorious captain Zoe Alston, who has led the side since it began back in 2013, was in tears when the final siren sounded with Bayswater ahead 4.2 (26) to 2.3 (15) on the scoreboard. “We did it. It really hasn’t sunk in and I think it will be a while before it does,’’ she said post-match. “I burst into tears. I was just so happy. Words can’t describe how proud I am of these girls, it’s been amazing to watch them grow all year, that means a lot to me. I’ve never really been the sort of person to focus on myself, I always love to help other people and that’s what makes this whole experience ten times better.” It was double joy for the 23-year-old defender who was awarded the best-on-ground medal for her standout performance. “Yeah, that was very exciting too. I actually started the game in the midfield then I got put to centre half back but I was often a free player which allowed me to set the tone and lead our defenders,’’ she said. “Sometimes if I stand back behind the ball I can see the ground a bit better and give some more direction to my team mates, I’m more of a defensive player anyway.” Bayswater’s Chelsea Mammone led the way with two goals for the winners, while Deanna Joliffe and Kristina Martin also hit the scoreboard. Meantime, Waverley Blues conjured their two goals from Laura Donaldson and Olivia Baxter. “The first quarter was really interesting because neither side scored, it was tight and really tense,’’ Alston said. “We had to get our bums into gear, but we did and then once everyone’s nerves settled we were able to just focus on the game and playing the sort of footy we wanted to play. We kicked two goals and kept Waverley to a point in the second quarter and that helped us build a lead.
www.efl.org.au
“In the last quarter Waverley started to come back at us, they are a great side, but we were able to stand firm and draw on different experiences we’ve had in games during the year. “I thought all our midfield was outstanding all day and our backline was definitely really great. Our defenders are all new players – Deanna Joliffe, Caitlyn Wilson, Christie Lay and Heather McMillan – all really stood out, it was great to watch.” League leading goal kicker Leesa McShane, who has provided many a highlight on her way to 36 goals this season, battled illness for 10 days leading up to the season finale but took her place in the side. “Unfortunately, Leesa has been really sick for the last week and a half but she still played and still played her role in the team as all of the players have done all year,’’ Alston said. “As I always say to the girls it’s not about the individual, it’s about the jumper you’re wearing and the team.” This historic flag means so much to so many at Appleby Oval. “Our team manager, who is actually my mum Lisa, has put so much time and effort into the team, so have all our coaches, all the volunteers and support at our club has all contributed to this moment and we are really grateful,’’ Alston said. “We really have made history today and that’s something all the girls are really excited about. “After the game when we received our medals that was mentioned during the presentation. Lots of people were talking about that in the rooms after the game and the girls are stoked because they’ve never been part of something so special like this before. “We’ve led the way for our club and the first year of this new league.” Bayswater 4.2 (26) defeated Waverley Blues 2.3 (15) Sunday September 10, Lilydale Sports Oval Bayswater Goal Kickers: C. SOUTH CROYDON: A much more challenging day last Saturday against the competition benchmark. We matched the Eagles for a half, but ultimately their class and our injuries took their toll. Of course winning the week before means a second chance and today as you read this our team will be prepared to take on Blackburn for the opportunity to once again progress to the big dance. Hopefully many South supporters are reading this as you wait for the game to start, and you are all ready to support your team who will be giving all they can. We also take this opportunity to acknowledge three of our junior club players who were recipients of EFL league awards: • Tom Naughtin - U14C EFL B&F Winner - 32 votes • Tom Sheridan - U15C EFL B&F Runner Up – 15 votes • Nick McDonald - U17D – EFL B&F Runner Up – 21 votes Fantastic result for these great young men!

BLACKBURN: A super effort last Sunday as the Seniors ran over Balwyn by kicking 8 goals to 2 in the last Qtr. Hammo with 4 goals and Concs with 2, were hard to contain up forward and our on ball brigade led by Thorpy, Buck, Cuddles and a fearless game by the skipper Fages, provided for a very excited Red Army at the end of the day. Simply, it was a case of which team was going to gain the ascendancy in a must win contest and to our boys credit, they lifted their work rate around the contest and won more first use of the ball in critical areas of the ground when it really counted in the second half. In a first for the MIGHTY BURNERS, all three (3) senior teams will be playing off together in Division 1 Preliminary Finals on the same day. The seniors will take on a match hardened Sth Croydon who have done well this season and are playing honest footy when it counts. The Reserves will have no easy task as they lock horns with a Vermont side, hoping to join their other teams already in Grand Finals. Our boys will be ready to atone for the disappointment of last week and will be looking to hit the scoreboard early and pile on the pressure in what will be a huge game. Our young Colts side will be out to earn a spot in the big dance but will first have to match a Rowville outfit in good form. Our Coaches have a strong young list to select from and the team that runs out today will be well prepared and ready for action. Leave nothing on the field lads – we are with you all the way! All players and supporters will be made welcome back at the Club on Saturday night – hopefully with some smiling faces. Our Grand Final Eve Luncheon will take place on Friday 29th September, with Special Guest Speaker and 250 game Collingwood Premiership Star, Peter Daicos. Tickets are $100 /head, includes a 2 courses with drinks. MEDIA TIPS Brett Beston
Daniel Cencic (EFL Media Manager)
Park Orchards has looked finals bound for most of the season, while Heathmont can thank Boronia for a last round slip up against The Dockers, for its spot. Both sides won easily enough in week one of finals, before respective wins over minor premier Ringwood to reach the last game of the season, with the Nick Handley-inspired Sharks getting home by a point and the Jets downing Templestowe by less than a kick. Despite late season slip-ups against Boronia and Scoresby, I expect the Sharks to have too much firepower led by a raft of goal kicking options, including that man Handley and Michael Philp, a strong midfield and rock-solid defence. While Heathmont will look to veteran Bret English and goal-sneak Kevin Clark for inspiration. Tip: Park Orchards by 30 points. Blue Ribbon Medal: Michael Fowkes
Division 2: The fourth and final bout between Division 2’s best comes down to 100 minutes of football this Saturday. The Falcons have enjoyed a week off after what has been a taxing season, while Doncaster East have had to fight through all weeks of the finals. Defensively, Knox has been the better side this year, conceding 195 less points than Doncaster East throughout the home and away season, while Doncaster East had a slightly better run up forward, edging Knox by 13 points as registering more scores. The key for the Falcons will be to stop the Batsanis boys, who have found great form this season, while up forward, Jake Summers poses a threat with his marking ability and accuracy in front of goals. Meanwhile, Doncaster East will want to stop the likes of seasoned-performer Luke Williams, along with Mitch Greaves, Marcus Jordan, Scott Davis and James Curtiss – all a significant reason why the Falcons are playing off for their first flag in 10 years. If anything, we should expect a closer result than that of the semi-final two weeks ago, where Knox barnstormed its way into the grand final. Thinking this one will go right down to the wire. Knox by six points. Blue Ribbon Medal: Scott Davis
Gus MacLeod Division 2 When I said that Doncaster East would win the flag at the start of the season I got laughed at - I’d love to prove the doubters wrong! I said that no-one else would win the flag and I am going to stick by that. Doncaster East by 12 points. Blue Ribbon Medal - Jeremy Musso Division 3 I’m going to tip an upset this season. The Jets have been playing great footy of late with a never-say-die mentality. Heathmont has come from behind on many occasions in 2017 and I think they will again this week. Heathmont by three points. Blue Ribbon Medal – Chris Colombo Matt Fotia Division 2: Doncaster East and Knox have been far and away the best two sides in the competition all season. Knox have strong depth throughout the whole club, whilst Doncaster East’s ‘best 22’ is considered the number one in Division 2. I see the Lions finally making the step-up to the top flight in a close encounter. Doncaster East by 13 points Blue Ribbon Medal: Jack Martin Division 3: The Sharks were impressive in the defeat of Templestowe and nail-biting win over Ringwood. They’re youthful and quick, going up against some wiser heads at Heathmont who have all the momentum steaming into the grand final from fifth place. I think the Sharks will just have enough, due to their multitude of scoring options. Park Orchards by 23 points Blue Ribbon Medal: Tom Feher www.efl.org.au
Division 3: Not too many would have predicted this match-up just mere weeks ago as the Division 3 decider, but as the two form sides of the finals series do battle at East Burwood on Sunday, we’re in for a thriller. History is on the line for Park Orchards as it looks to win its first EFL senior flag since entering the competition in 2012, while Heathmont has ridden a wave of momentum, coming from 36 points down against Ringwood to cause a memorable upset. The question beckons –how much of a toll does a win like last week for the Jets take? Time will tell – but I expect the belief to be high off the back of one of the club’s most famous victories. On the other hand, Park Orchards has had the week off and should be feeling refreshed. It has looked impressive throughout the finals – with even some of its more potent options up forward sidelined throughout the finals. Like Division 2, expect a close contest. Just feel the Sharks have the edge up forward with a more potent attack. Park Orchards by 18 points. Blue Ribbon Medal: Michael Fowkes

GRAND FINAL Tormore Reserve 2:30pm
KNOX: Grand Final day for 2017 is here! What a massive day awaits for our club as the Seniors look to win our first senior premiership since 2007. Unfortunately the Reserves miss the opportunity to be playing off for a premiership today as they ended their season last week with a preliminary finals loss to Lilydale. It wasn’t the way the boys hoped to send the skipper Adam Whitten off in his 200th game. What a massive milestone. Congratulations Whitts! Our boys wasted numerous chances to be a red hot chance with some inaccurate kicking which was never really there throughout the home and away season. The finals yips definitely seemed to crack our boys which was extremely disappointing for them. Sam “Turbo” McCarthy gave his all along with Gavin Low, Brett Holst, Nathan Canning and Harry Exton, but much like the previous week there were not enough contributors. Lilydale ran away 4 goal winners to send our boys crashing out in straight sets. But today it’s all about the Seniors! The boys have gone through the year losing just the once in the 19 games to date. It was a massive 3rd quarter 2 weeks ago that blew Doncaster East away and we’re hoping for more of the same from the first bounce today. Which ever way the result goes today we invite all our proud sponsors and supporters back to The Fort tonight to reflect on the season that’s been. Let’s hope that is a celebration with a premiership cup! Do yourselves proud boys. You’ve worked hard and have deserved this opportunity all year! GO KNOX!!! PRESENTATION NIGHT - Friday 29th September @ Knox Club. Tickets are $60pp which includes a 3 course meal with drinks at bar prices. Please see Jane Barbanti to secure your spot!

DIVISION 2 SENIORS
DONCASTER EAST: Today is a very special day for the Doncaster East Football Club. Today is the 10th anniversary of our last Premiership (Division 3 in 2007), and the 50th anniversary of our great Club. It’s been a stellar year on field and today we come here with our best ever chance to take the trophy back to Zerbes. If ever we needed an extra incentive, spare a thought for former (1993 – 1998) Club President, Barry Higgins who is unwell and will be watching this game on a computer. Without Barry, there probably would not be a DEFC playing today. With a Loss /Win /Loss - that’s our 2017 record against Knox this season – surely the law of averages would suggest that it’s our turn for a win. We know we’ve got the ability and all we need now is the mindset of ‘The Little Engine that Could’ - “ We think we can, We think we can, We think we have a plan, and we can do anything if we think we can!” Our Presentation Night is set for Friday, October 6 at the Veneto Club in Bulleen. Buy your ticket online at www.trybooking.com/RYGJ “Our Supporters roar every time that we score . . . . we’re the Boys from Donny East” - Colonel

GRAND FINAL East Burwood Reserve 2:30pm
PARK ORCHARDS: Well here we are – all three Sharks teams will be playing off for premiership glory at East Burwood Reserve today. Congratulations to Jarrod Bayliss, Tim Raines, Tony Weeks and their teams on getting their teams into a position to make history. It is a testament to the hard work of committees past and present and all of the volunteers, that in six short years we have been able to get the club into this position. We also thank our major sponsor Hoskins Real Estate, sponsors AGI group of companies, F45 Training, Elephant & Co. and all of our gold, silver and player sponsors for their generous financial support this season. Last weekend the U19’s bounced back from a loss against Heathmont the previous week to beat Boronia by 29 points – Heron, Williamson and Cridland were huge for the Sharks. They play Heathmont again today and will be determined to turn the tables on them and take their fifth flag. The seniors and D-squad earnt the right to play off with hard fought wins against Ringwood two weeks ago. The D-squad won by five points in a low scoring game with coach Raines, Walkley and Smeed amongst the best. We wish the boys luck in their big game against Templestowe today. The seniors came from 18 points down half way through the last quarter against Ringwood to storm home and win by a point. Handley with five, captain Feher, Wiggins and Haythorne were amongst the best in a great team performance. You can be assured that coach Jarrod Bayliss with have the boys absolutely cherry ripe, and whilst Heathmont are worthy opponents, the Sharks are determined to make history today and bring home the club’s first ever senior flag. Win or lose today, we invite everyone back to Domeney Reserve after the senior game to celebrate what has been a great season - let’s hope that we will be celebrating three Sharks flags. Dates for the diary - Vote Count Night on Thursday 21st September and the Presentation Evening on Thursday 28th September (GF public holiday eve). Go Sharks!

DIVISION 3 SENIORS
HEATHMONT: WOW … six weeks ago the Seniors slipped to six spot on the ladder with two home and away matches to go. They had to win the last two games of the season and rely on the results of other teams to give them a chance of participating in finals. Fast forward to this weekend and after three tough, well fought finals wins they find themselves facing Park Orchards playing off for a Premiership and a chance to moving up to Division 2 for the first time since the early 1980’s. This is what football dreams are made of! But not only are the Seniors playing for the holy grail, so too are our Under 19’s who have had a fantastic season. The future is looking bright for the club. A BIG congratulations to Joel, Gary and their coaching staff for getting the teams to the last game of the season also to VV and his DSquad who have played their part in this success. Congratulations to Rob and the committee for all their hard work over the past few years – let’s hope there are a couple of wins left to achieve even more success. A BIG THANKS to the Jets Army who support the teams week in and week out, win, lose or draw, your support is immeasurable and it’s always great to see the blue and yellow dotted around the ground on game days. And to ALL the players that have pulled on the jumper this season THANK YOU - as each and every one of you have been part of the success that has carried these two teams to the Grand Finals. GOOD LUCK to ALL the players taking the field today – finish your season’s off on a high and bring home the cups! BACK TO THE CLUBROOMS tonight!! GO JETS!!!

COMPLETE INJURY CARE The EFL is pleased to announce we have created a program with five leading medical providers to establish a player injury care program unrivalled in community sport.
from internationally trained and highly regarded surgeons.
The program is EFL Complete Injury Care, and through Lifecare, Vermont Urgent Care, Capital Radiology, Sports Med Biologic and Orthopaedic Specialists Melbourne, we are creating a level of expert care for EFL players usually reserved for those at the elite level.
Concussion is, understandably, an important topic for our industry. It’s an area research has shown most local GP’s aren’t comfortable dealing with, and that as an industry we need to be cognisant of providing the best level of care possible. Through this program and the fast access to the level of care available at Sports Med Biologic this is possible.
Lifecare, are a leading provider of physiotherapy and sports medicine services who have had a relationship with the EFL for in excess of 25 years. Vermont Urgent Care is a walk in doctor’s surgery open on Saturday and Sunday afternoons to provide immediate care to injured players without waiting for hours at the public hospital or paying significant money before you walk in the door at a private hospital, with X-Ray available. Capital Radiology provide the full range of radiology services such as X-ray, CT scans and MRI, with quality care and fast communication with patients and other medical professionals. Sports Med Biologic are a sports medical clinic based in Box Hill of which the doctors have experience at the elite level of sport, mostly with AFL clubs, and will provide expert concussion care, both pre-screening and post injury management. And Orthopaedic Specialists Melbourne will help provide quick access to expert orthopaedic services
Vermont Urgent Care - Walk in Doctors Clinic. No appointment needed. 5 Boronia Road, Vermont http://vermonturgentcare.com.au/ Ph: 9874 3344
The program helps address two key concerns.
The second is when a player is hurt and needs immediate attention, or looks to have seriously injured themselves. With this program, the player can be assessed on the weekend at Vermont Urgent Care, be in getting scans on Monday at Capital Radiology, if they need to consult with an orthopaedic surgeon it will be done in a couple of days though OSM, and if surgery is required they could be on the operating table by the end of the week. Then post-surgery they can get expert rehabilitation though Lifecare to help get back on the ground ASAP. It’s a level of care only seen at the elite level but now available to community footballers. Keep your eye on the EFL website (efl.org.au) for more information on the program or contact the provider directly via the details below.
