INSIDE THE EFL Team App: More than 800 people can’t be wrong! With a number of our clubs already using Team App as yet another avenue for the league to communicate with clubs, members, players and supporters to give the EFL community the most up to date information. The App will feature Live Scores, News, Social Media and the latest photos!

Website: As it also has been, The EFL website (efl.org.au) will be the one stop shop for all the latest in the EFL world as you #LOVEITLOCAL in 2016. From Results and Ladders to club administration, latest news and podcasts you will be able to access it all through the Eastern Football League website. Tipping is back for another year and with more than 200 people already involved it’s a great time to get involved! For more head to efl.org.au Live Scores: This season we are asking all clubs to get behind the Fox Sports Pulse lives scores match centre. We had a couple of clubs trial the new system in 2013 and more in 2014 and we are asking all clubs to jump on board.

To get the full features of your teams App you need to download Team App onto your smartphone. Download Team App here (http://teamapp.com/ app). Launch Team App and search for Eastern Football League. Then: 1. Sign-up to Team App. You’ll be sent an email to confirm your registration. 2. Search for your club’s App and request access to group(s) that apply to you. If you don’t have a smartphone, reply to this email so you can be added manually and you’ll receive email notifications.

The live scores match centre allows clubs to input not only scores but goal kickers at the touch of a button, through iPhone, iPad or on a laptop. These scores are then shown live on the EFL results page and can be updated after each score, live, at the ground. For clubs this is the chance to be able to input goal kickers as they happen, and not run the risk of missing the action. All clubs have the access to the new live scores app and we look forward to a more streamlined approach to publishing scores in 2016.

Join the media team! As the season has only just begun there is no better time to jump on board the EFL media team. With plenty to cover across the entire league, there is an opportunity no matter your interest to get involved. Mentioned above, the Eastern Football League has a number of different mediums and if you are a Uni student looking for some extra experience or a retired player we have a role for you. STATS BENCH We’ve all heard the sayings a week is a long time in politics and that football clubs just take it one week at a time. Well there’s been approximately 2700 weeks since Scoresby and Silvan met (just short of 52 years). The Magpies need a win or risk dropping off the Noel McPhee mid-table pace where a @statsbench win can place you in finals contention while a loss puts you in danger of…. (too early to mention). Warrandyte have found their Division 3 feet quite well and sit inside the five. A sterner test awaits in the form of an undefeated Upper Ferntree Gully renewing a traditional rivalry for the first time since 2010. Wins 1 19 9 3 3 23

Two undefeated Division 4 teams meet to determine the mid-season Premiership favourites title. Both Ferntree Gully and Donvale have been more than impressive in a six game winning streak to start the season. There is a fair logjam below with teams 3 – 7 all on three wins and three losses. Four of those teams meet and the winners will gain a one game advantage. Forest Hill and Whitehorse lock horns for the first time since 2007. MAKING GAINS AFTER GROWING PAINS Only the most one-eyed supporter would have put faith in Upper Gully to come into the 2016 with much authority, after a deflating end to last season’s finals campaign. With Mitcham out of Division 3, it seemed this season there were only a couple of teams – Templestowe and possibly The Basin – that could go all the way. Of course, as is the unpredictability of the sport, Upper Ferntree Gully are yet to drop a game in 2016. The senior side has been able to do this, as coach Chad Rogers says, through “Team football – team defence and team attack”. The squad has it instilled that whatever their position on the ground, everyone must play a role on both sides of the ball. “It doesn’t matter who scores, it doesn’t matter who defends, as long as we’re all working together.” More than just winning, they are doing a number on teams – sporting a percentage well over 200 while having conceded the least points of any side in the entire EFL. Since a hard-fought win in the opening round over Chirnside Park, they have given up an average of only 35 points per game, including conceding just two goals in Round 5 against third-place Heathmont. Meanwhile, their offensive side of the game has been chugging along nicely. Since Josh Begley kicked 13 goals in the first 2 matches and was picked up by the Eastern Ranges, a number of players have filled the void and kicked a bag. Jason Godfrey, Ryan Murray, and Tate Hickleton all have an outing of four goals or more, with Hickleton kicking 5 last week in a best-on-ground performance. Now in his third year with the club, Upper Ferntree Gully coach Chad Rogers feels the way the squad has been playing is a product of growth, stability and cohesiveness as a unit. “The group’s maturing, basically each year they’ve taken steps in the right direction. It was a very young group [originally] and they’re just starting to hit that age where they’ve played a few games together, and understand how everyone plays.” Rogers says one aspect of the team’s great start to the season has been the team “tightening up” its skills, resulting in a more efficient style of play where teammates trust one another. However, after falling to a rampaging Ringwood in the elimination final last year, Rogers is aware “things can turn around pretty quick”. “We were a bit unlucky with injuries last year”, says Rogers, “You want to be playing better footy at the end, at the right part of the year”. You can be sure Upper Gully will do whatever they

The Eastern Footballer

By Nathaniel Sage – EFL Media can to sustain the momentum from this positive start to the season. “With the group getting older, they’re a bit stronger and hopefully will be able to cope with a full season.” Having said that, the coach is not letting anyone get ahead of themselves. If anything, a quiet confidence in the team to produce later in the season has allowed a deadly focus on the here and now. “This week we’ve got Warrandyte, the week after Templestowe. So that’s about as far as you look ahead. Warrandyte have been going okay so it won’t be easy.” Upper Gully will look to establish themselves as a genuine threat in these next two matches. This weekend at home against the Bloods is a danger game, followed by a top-of-the-table clash with the Dockers that should give us a clear picture of where they stand. Fans of Upper Gully would be thrilled with the start to the season. With the systematic “team football” approach aided by different individuals showcasing brilliance each week, we can look forward to this club causing more headaches before the season is through. In the meantime, don’t be surprised if we see Upper Gully continue taking “steps in the right direction”. However, they know better than most that it’s easier said than done to avoid tripping up along the way.

Young ‘Roo shakes injuries by Glenn Fisher – Leader Newspapers

YOUNG East Ringwood midfielder/forward James Belo has played just seven senior matches for the ’Roos in the past three seasons. Five of those have been in 2016. After a horror stretch with injuries — including broken feet on two separate occasions — that restricted him to a total of just two games in 2014 and 2015, Belo is back in a big way. The former Eastern Ranges TAC Cup premiership player, who turned 21 on April 16, has now been nominated for the Leader Community Newspapers EFL Young Gun Award. Five Division 1 senior games so far in 2016 for the former ’Roos junior and five times in East Ringwood’s best players, including a bag of five goals in the Round 4 win over South Croydon. “I finally got to do a full pre-season and played a couple of practice matches, and it’s certainly helped with being more consistent,” Belo told the Leader. “I certainly think being at the Ranges around some of those players and the coaching staff there has helped me read the play a bit better, even in the seniors. “I suppose I can diagnose any problems we’re having around the middle and talk to (coach) Marcus (Buzaglo) about them.”

Great leadership qualities for such a young guy.” The Leader Community Newspapers Eastern Football League Young Gun Award for under-21 players will continue throughout the 2016 season, with nominations each round in two categories: Divisions 1 and 2 and Divisions 3 and 4. Joining Belo in the latest round of nominations are: Chirnside Park’s Sam Morton, who has played the past three senior matches, figured in the best players twice and booted three goals in Round 5 against South Belgrave; Wantirna South’s Lincoln Wong and, Ferntree Gully’s Jared Derkson, who has played every senior game in 2016 and been in the best player on four occasions. Leader Community Newspapers EFL Young Gun Award Round 4 Divisions 1/2: James Belo (East Ringwood) Divisions 3/4: Sam Morton (Chirnside Park) Round 5 Divisions 1/2: Lincoln Wong (Wantirna South) Divisions 3/4: Jared Derkson (Ferntree Gully)

Buzaglo said it was huge for the team to have Belo out on the park fully fit and injury-free. “Definitely one of the first picked every week,” Buzaglo said. “James runs all day, he’s switched on, knows the game and trains like he plays.

DIVISION 3 PARK ORCHARDS: We travel to Chirnside Park today looking to keep up the momentum after three strong wins last week against South Belgrave. The Unders kicked off the day last week with a solid performance with good games from Donker, Skien and Squillace. The Ressies followed with four good quarters, although wayward kicking let them down a little. Coghlan marked strongly while Hudson, King and Messina were amongst the best. The Domenarians coterie group met in the function room at half time of the main game and enjoyed a beverage and a bite together; the score at the long break saw the Sharks lead by 4 goals, but South were still looking dangerous. However, we were able to put our foot down and kick 10 goals to one in the second half to run away with a convincing win. Well done to the entire team… everyone contributed! However, a special mention to Prosenak who was at his dangerous best around goals and Heyde who continued his rich vein of form. Holewa had a great game; as did Handley, Flemming, Johnston, Pollard and Fischer. A couple of reminders: (i) players to finalise their player sponsor (this is compulsory!) and (ii) next Saturday’s Foundation Member’s lunch at midday: RSVP jeremy@manageyou.com.au or 0409 047 694. DIVISION 3 HEATHMONT: All three teams travelled up to Chirnside Park last Saturday in an effort to rebound from the previous week. The wind would play a major factor in all three games. It was a tight tussle in the U19’s all day and they were down by 27 points at the last break but a fantastic 5 goal quarter whilst keeping Chirnside goalless saw them take the points. Next the Dev. Squad who made good use of the wind in the first quarter to take the lead, at half time there was just 3 goals in it. Unfortunately we let our guard down in the third and Chirnside came out on top in the second half for a win. The Seniors were determined to rebound but gave up a lead in the first quarter. It was pressure football and we missed opportunities, Chirnside Park made the most of theirs to go in at the last break with a 38 point lead. The Jets came out firing in the last with a six goal quarter including 5 unanswered to bridge the gap to a goal, but just couldn’t get over the line in the end. Some soul searching and a big effort needed for today’s match against Boronia at the Hangar. AROUND THE CLUB – Have you purchased your tickets for the MID YEAR BALL on May 28th? DIVISION 3 RINGWOOD: Last weekend we travelled to Warrandyte and the Reserves continued their good form and recorded another big victory. They started the game well and by half time had opened up a handy lead which they continued to build on and showed good form at both end of the grounds and whilst scoring goals also managed to keep the opposition goal less for the game. The Seniors were locked in a tight struggle with little separating the sides all match. We held a small lead at the main break however surrendered the lead in the third quarter and despite some good efforts could not hit back and Warrandyte had all the answering goals every time we threatened and inflicted a 2 goal loss. The Annual Ball is coming up quickly (Saturday June 4 ) so please get in now and purchase your ticket for what will be a good night of entertainment and for further details please refer to notices posted around the social rooms or visit our website. Today we host The Basin at Jubilee Park and hope to celebrate a couple of victories in the social rooms tonight. Good luck to both teams for todays encounters.

DIVISION 3 THE BASIN: A great day by all at the Bear Cave last week in our 1000 senior game celebration against our local Rival Boronia Hawks. With many legends returning to the Club our Vets took the Chocolates or the “beers” with Noons Kicking 4 of our 5 Goals. Winning by 9 points. Now for the main event 1000 game for our seniors in nothing short of finals like crowd a close thriller to the final siren. With the Bears talking the win by just 4 points. On that we must Thank Alex, committee and usual volunteers that made this a huge day and night a success for the club. Today we Journey to Jubilee Park versus Ringwood Red backs (seniors & reserves) Under 19 Scoresby at their ground. Good luck to all sides. DIVISION 3 SILVAN: It was a tough day down at the Wharf against Templestowe last week, as the high-flying Dockers proved too good for both the Ones and Twos. The Ressies introduced some more new faces, but were still outgunned to the tune of close to 200 points by the top side. Hang in there guys, we’ll get a win before too long!

The Seniors were missing a couple of regulars and also were blown out of the water late in the game after an 8 goal Docker blitz in the final quarter. We hung in for quite a while, but Templestowe ultimately pulled away, proving why they are one of the premiership favourites this year. For the Cats, our best players were James McManus, Bryce Litchfield, Shaun Jones, Jarryd Dietzal, Warren Schmidt and Harley Bain. This week promises to be a more even encounter on paper as we remain ‘on the road’ and venture down to Scoresby Recreation Reserve, with both sides desperate for a win. As mentioned last week, it is a very lopsided ladder in Division 3, with a number of sides (including us) sitting on a couple of wins and all still in the running for 4th possie. One positive note, although we’ve struggled of late on the park, we are well supported by some great sponsors, such as Tara Press and Pezzimenti Trenchless – thanks guys for your ongoing support. Go Cats! #CATSFOOTY

DIVISION 3 TEMPLESTOWE: The three Dockers teams travel to South Belgrave this Saturday to play the Saints. Our U19’s had another away game against Warrandyte last weekend and made a contest for the first quarter but could not maintain momentum going down by 123 points. The Reserves and Seniors hosted the Silvan Cats at the Wharf at Porter St in front of an enthusiastic sea of Purple spilling out from the first coterie lunch of the season – thanks to Michael Fitzsimons and the volunteers for their hard work for an entertaining event hosted by Mark Anderson and featuring Anthony “Lehmo” Lehman from Gold FM. The Reserves played a reduced Silvan outfit and finished winning 207 to 12 points – Mitch Soon BOG and 7 goals. The Seniors celebrated Matt Bain’s 100th game with a 111 point victory, Matt BOG as well kicking 7 goals with Kid Talevski notching up another 4 to be one off the equal leader, Simon Harris doing a great job in the Ruck. Combined Ladies Lunch with Past Players Day planned for 4th June, see Nicole Muleta for that and our Ladies “Let’s Hear it for The Boys” Night Friday 22nd July at 7.30pm - some great events for our supporters. The Dockers are committed to supporting our Community through the RSL, Doncare and will be continuing to fund raise during the season. DIVISION 3 WARRANDYTE: As Warrandyte put on another perfect day of fine weather, the Bloods and Redbacks took the field of battle which in the end was a tight arm wrestle all day. The biggest margin for the day was 18 points as the game ebbed and flowed and in the end our boys were able to hold on for a tough and well deserved 13-point victory. Their endeavour and tenacity to hold on after every Redback challenge in the last quarter is a credit to the boys. The Reserves team were unsuccessful against Ringwood while the U19 team had a strong win against Templestowe. Today we play one of the 2 undefeated teams in Div 3, Upper Ferntree Gully, in what will be a real challenge for the young Bloods as we look forward to continuing to develop our young list. This year sees the Warrandyte Football Club welcoming new and exciting sponsors. These sponsors will be introduced and acknowledged throughout the season. This week we continue to focus on two of these new sponsors. The Huntress Restaurant and Warrandyte Travel and Cruise. Please look up these great local businesses on their websites and utilise their service and expertise. We look forward to successful partnerships with these and other businesses. The club is excited to host major functions in the coming months. The Ladies day lunch is locked in for June 25 with booking details to follow. This will be a combined event with the junior club and promises to be a very eventful lunch. Ladies, lock this in and organise your table now. The past player’s day is scheduled for July 16 and once again, details will follow.

DIVISION 4 EASTERN LIONS: The under 19s were away against the Blackburn Pioneers last week. 2 points is all that separated the 2 teams in the end with the Lions unfortunately just going down. It hurt the boys to come so close to their first win but still a good effort with T.Gstrein the main goal kicker with 3, T.Barrington and T.Horne in the best. The senior club away against Nunawading and the 2s didn’t get things all their way in the first qrt. To Nunawading credit they showed great fight and kicked 2 goals and went into qrt time with scores even between the teams. After a qrt time spray the Lions kicked 22 goals to Nunawading 1. Main goal kickers were J.Ormston 5, L.Gordon 5 and R.Church 4. In the 1s Nunawading again started well kicking the first goal but it was all one way traffic after that with the Lions recording there highest ever win in its clubs history. Final score Lions 43.29.287 Nunawading 2.4.16, goal kickers N.Werle 9 G.Bailey 6 and S.Mercer 4.

COLDSTREAM: Travelled to Donvale round 6, undermanned with a number of injuries but to the credit of the players and coaches never did any player of either side not play with intent nor endeavour to win the football. Donvale a fast improving and no question top 3 side in 2016 come away in both games with strong wins, also a very welcoming club to Coldstream on the day. Today its away again to Eastern Lions, another tough contest for a young inexperienced side however a new week and a new game of football. A thank you again to all our sponsors and supporters, without you we would not be allowed such opportunities. Also to all our helpers in the committee, game days helpers and trainers a large thank you. Best of Luck to all sides today, new and current players. #cougarsalive

DIVISION 4 FERNTREE GULLY EAGLES: After two weeks on the road it was good to be home on a glorious autumn day. We also had the pleasure to host round 3 for our All Abilities Team against Wyndham. Well done to both teams with the spoils going to Wyndham. This was well supported with a light lunch put on after the game for the players and supporters. It was another solid performance for the club against Surrey Park with all three sides having a win. The U19’s match was competitive with Surrey Park leading at the first break and keeping in touch all day. Best Players: A. Cavarra, J. Siewert, B. Perrett, R. Thorneycroft, T. Manning, L. Cahill. The Reserves were helped out by a few of the U’19’s and as a result it was a special day for the Evans Family to have two brothers play together for the first time. Surrey Park scored better in the 2nd half after a slow start. Best Players: M. Camera, J. O’Brien, P. Lawson, A. Lorusso, P. Cafferkey, B. Worland. Surrey Park pushed the Seniors early and were within a couple of kicks at half time. We steadied in the third quarter and enjoyed a good win. Best Players: C. Waldron, B. Morrison, K. Gray, D. Vandenbroek, J. Derksen, P. Turner. Special thanks to our Auskick mascots Grace, Coby and Blake for making it a great day. This week we are home against Donvale. DONVALE: Great wins by our Seniors and Reserves last week against Coldstream. We thank Coldstream for wearing their clash strip in the senior game, while Donvale reserves wore the Green Black and White “heritage” jumper. We held a wonderful sponsors lunch and it was great to see both old and new faces at the ground cheering on Donvale. Today we face Ferntree Gully who have also had a fantastic start to the season. This will be a great contest in all three games and we look forward to seeing “where we are at” against such strong opposition. We thank our sponsors for 2016, including those on this page; a new sponsor, Venture Egg Financial Services and also Konstruct Recycling and Jellis Craig Manningham who have both been with us for many years. Tickets are now on sale (via trybooking) for the social event of the year; the Donvale Ball on june 25th. Make sure you get your seats quickly as this will sell out fast. DIVISION 4 FOREST HILL: The Feagles got us off to a great start with a big win. The Reserves continued their up and down season and a scoreless last quarter saw them go down to Kilsyth. The seniors had a close fought game, with no side able to get more than a goal ahead. We held in a close finish for a 5 point win. With 5 sides on the same number of points that win could prove vital later in the year. Both Netball teams also enjoyed comfortable wins. After so many great wins there was a fantastic vibe around the club for our big club function; the annual $5k draw. It was great to see so many people back at the rooms on Saturday night.

This week sees us back on our home ground as our senior sides taking on the Whitehorse Pioneers and the under 19s take on the Blackburn Pioneers in the battle of the joint ventures. Our Netballers take on Coldstream and Boronia as Green are in the finals fight and White have a little more breathing room. Making use of the home ground facilities this week sees us welcome back all those involved in the 2006 Colts Premiership and trust they have a great day. We also have two more reunions coming up, on June 4th we will be hosting our 1986 reserves and 2006 Veterans premiership sides. Our sponsor of the week is Valles Accountants. Their support has been vital in getting our netball teams on court. Go Zebras!

NUNAWADING: This week Nunawading welcomes Kilsyth to Koonung Reserve. The day is a huge one for our club with the reserve 2006 Premiership team ten-year reunion, the dreamtime game v Kilsyth culminating later in a major fund raiser in the $2000 cash draw run by famous comic entertainers The Nelson Twins and comedian Evan Hocking. As our entertaining visitors are all keen footballers the club has arranged for match day permits for the boys to take to the field and play in the senior side from 2pm. Our club is still receiving requests from players interested in getting back into football. They have all been invited to come down to our training sessions and try out. The club has got somewhere close to 85 new players this year which has improved the number of players in the club over last year by 25 -30. The club is looking forward to working with all these players and getting a strong pre-season under their belts in time for next season. Club officials are still working tirelessly to increase numbers at our club this year and it is great to see so many enthusiastic faces at training. Keep up the hard work boys as we all try to strengthen and return our club to greatness next year. Please make sure you get down and support both teams this week and be part of what promises to be a huge day on and off the field for the Nunawading football club on Saturday. Go Lions.

DIVISION 4 KILSYTH: Unfortunately, the day didn’t start the way we wanted it to, with the Under 19s going down by 64 points. Kelly and Lansdell the only goal kickers for the day, Mainenti, Hansen, Clavant, McCall and Scheepers were our best on. The Reserves were the only winners of the day at Pinks, coming home with a 29-point win! With 8 individual goal kickers, M Jacobs and Van Gulik with 2 each. Van Gulik, Henshall, Nautili Fedat, Richards and Menke were all best on. Going down by 5 points, the seniors came out fighting. The game was a close one at each break, with only 6 points in it at 3 quarter time! We had 8 individual goal scorers, with the likes of Sherlock, Sigersma and McArthur all with 1 each. Dawson, Browning, Cordwell, Ashby, Neilson and Jackson all best on.

We would like to say a massive thank you to all our committee, volunteers and players for all their help at our “Pink at Pinks” Ladies Day. The day was a massive success, with a fair amount of money being donated to Breast Cancer research. Thank you to all the ladies who attended!

SURREY PARK: Thanks to the hospitality from Ferntree Gully last Saturday, whilst we were unable to secure a win across the three grades we were proud of all of our players and know that improvement will continue as the season unfolds. Our best on the day were Chris Allen in the ‘Ones’, Matt McBride in the Reserves while Noah Bennett stood out in the 19’s.

This week we return home to Surrey Park to take on the Glen Waverley Hawks. With percentage only separating third and seventh this is the classic eight-point game. With a number of key players returning to the senior side we’re hoping for another great game at home for our supporters. If you are yet to purchase a Membership, you can do so at the downstairs bar today. Thanks to all our sponsors and particularly Surrey Barbers in Union Road who have kindly offered a 20% discount to Surrey Members as well as providing match day awards. Please make sure you support Adrian and the team. DIVISION 4 GLEN WAVERLEY HAWKS: The Glen Waverley Hawks are away from the nest for a second straight week and travel to Surrey Park Football Club for this round 7 clash. There was plenty of positives to be drawn from the reserves gritty win last week. Brad Matthews’ side somewhat unconventionally played its best footy when kicking into a strong breeze. Effort, desire to tackle and forwards always playing in front were the hallmarks of their work in tough conditions. What really warmed the cockles of every Hawk heart though was the return after almost two years of star forward Ryan Buttner. All Hawks supporters wanted was for “Butts” to get through the game and walk off under his own power but he did so much more, providing a great target, crashing packs and eventually in kicking his fourth goal, put the Hawks ahead for good. If the Hawks reserves bring the same attitude this week, Surrey Park will find some very stiff opposition. In the Seniors, the Hawks will be desperate to bounce back after losing what was a tight battle (until the last 5 minutes) with Whitehorse. The Hawks found themselves behind the eight ball almost immediately after a more desperate Pioneers side hunted in packs to stop Glen Waverley from utilising the strong breeze in the first term. Despite some improvement after the break some inaccurate goal kicking stopped the Hawks from ever truly establishing any dominance and the more deserving side won. The Hawks will be laying it all on the line this week in what is a crucial game.

EASTERN RANGES The Eastern Ranges have returned to the winners list and steadied their season with a 50 point win over the Gippsland Power. The 17.18.120 to 11.4.70 victory moves Eastern to a 4-3 win-loss record, maintain their sixth place on the ladder, and more importantly putting breathing space between them and teams outside of the top eight. The Power, yet to win in 2016, came out firing to begin the match kicking the first four goals of the afternoon. Just when it looked as though the match could be slipping away early for the Ranges the momentum changed, drastically. Four goals in the space of five minutes through Jordan Lynch, Jake McCormack, Patrick Wallis and Jaidyn Stephenson set up what would prove to be an impossible run for Gippsland to stop. Scoring six unanswered goals, in the space of 13 minutes, the boys from the East were able to set up a 15 point quarter time lead. The dominance that was stemming from hard and fast running through the middle of the ground, most notably by Jordan Gallucci (36 disposals, 11 clearances, three goals,) and Thomas North (21 disposals, five clearances) continued into the second term. However, this dominance was not converted on the scoreboard as the boys added 4.5, missing plenty of gettable shots on goal. Although, there was some reward for effort as Wallis nailed a set shot on the half time siren to make it a five goal lead. A highlight for the term was a courageous mark by Stephenson, flying back into a pack of players, representing the hard work and commitment to the contest that the whole team was displaying. The Ranges had obviously put their kicking boots on at half time, coming out and kicking the first three goals of the second half; two of which coming from long range running efforts from Nathan MullengerMcHugh and Kane Doueal. Midterm Gippsland

38

The Eastern Footballer

By Daniel Joyce evened out the contest slightly, with a solid five or so minutes of play, resulting in three unanswered goals. But the damage had already been done, and it did not take long for Eastern to inflict more pain on their opposition. Gallucci was terrific in the third term, racking up 10 possessions and kicking one of his three goals, in what was a best on ground display. Harrison Nolan (10 disposals) and Kane Keppel (13 disposals, six marks) continued their strong seasons down back, holding Gippsland goalless until the final few minutes of the last quarter. Josh Begley (two goals, five tackles) had a quieter day on the scoreboard in comparison to his first three matches, but like many of his teammates applied great tackling pressure all day. Overall it was a pleasing performance from the entire team, following two straight losses. NEXT UP: In what is shaping as a huge clash, the Eastern Ranges will be taking on the North Ballart Rebels at Box Hill City Oval next Sunday afternoon. Both teams are 4-3, with only 0.8% separating the fifth placed Rebels and the sixth placed Ranges. EASTERN RANGES: 6.4 9.9 13.13 17.18 (120) GIPPSLAND POWER: 4.1 5.1 8.2 11.4 (70) GOALS: Eastern Ranges: Gallucci 3, Mullenger-Mchugh 2, Begley 2, Stephenson 2, Wallis 2, Lynch, Lovell, Hayes, McCormack, Hannon, Doueal. Gippsland Power: Hodge 5, Stephenson 3, Mulqueen, Costigan, Harrison. BEST: Eastern Ranges: Gallucci, North, Mullenger-Mchugh, Lynch, Nolan, Keppel. COMPLETE INJURY CARE The EFL are pleased to announce we have created a program with five leading medical providers to establish a player injury care program unrivalled in community sport.

from internationally trained and highly regarded surgeons.

The program is EFL Complete Injury Care, and through Lifecare, Vermont Urgent Care, Capital Radiology, Sports Med Biologic and Orthopaedic Specialists Melbourne, we are creating a level of expert care for EFL players usually reserved for those at the elite level.

Concussion is, understandably, an important topic for our industry. It’s an area research has shown most local GP’s aren’t comfortable dealing with, and that as an industry we need to be cognisant of providing the best level of care possible. Through this program and the fast access to the level of care available at Sports Med Biologic this is possible.

Lifecare, are a leading provider of physiotherapy and sports medicine services who have had a relationship with the EFL for in excess of 25 years. Vermont Urgent Care is a walk in doctor’s surgery open on Saturday and Sunday afternoons to provide immediate care to injured players without waiting for hours at the public hospital or paying significant money before you walk in the door at a private hospital, with X-Ray available. Capital Radiology provide the full range of radiology services such as X-ray, CT scans and MRI, with quality care and fast communication with patients and other medical professionals. Sports Med Biologic are a sports medical clinic based in Box Hill of which the doctors have experience at the elite level of sport, mostly with AFL clubs, and will provide expert concussion care, both pre-screening and post injury management. And Orthopaedic Specialists Melbourne will help provide quick access to expert orthopaedic services

Vermont Urgent Care - Walk in Doctors Clinic. No appointment needed. 5 Boronia Road, Vermont http://vermonturgentcare.com.au/ Ph: 9874 3344

The program helps address two key concerns.

The second is when a player is hurt and needs immediate attention, or looks to have seriously injured themselves. With this program, the player can be assessed on the weekend at Vermont Urgent Care, be in getting scans on Monday at Capital Radiology, if they need to consult with an orthopaedic surgeon it will be done in a couple of days though OSM, and if surgery is required they could be on the operating table by the end of the week. Then post-surgery they can get expert rehabilitation though Lifecare to help get back on the ground ASAP. It’s a level of care only seen at the elite level but now available to community footballers. Keep your eye on the EFL website (efl.org.au) for more information on the program or contact the provider directly via the details below.

Beast from the East For a number of years, the Eastern Football League went without competing in representative competition at Senior level. Now, with three consecutive years of interleague competition the boys from the East have a new found pride for the red, white and black. Today and the league will bring together two sides made up of the best talent from across the east of Melbourne, something that Senior Coach Brett Moyle is definitely excited about “A number of players new to the league have been in form early in the season, we have been around to a number of games as well as watching game vision to ensure we don’t miss anyone.”

By Dyson Baker, EFL Media FL in season 2015 the Eastern FL is hungry to again taste success with a crop of players now attune to playing representative football. 2015 Chandler Medallist (Division 1 B&F) Luke Williams (Knox) relishes the opportunity of playing for the league however doesn’t deny the sense of pressure “It’s certainly there, everyone wants to be the number 1 league in Victoria, it certainly adds to the pressure.” Into a third straight season of interleague matches players have a real pride for the jumper, Noble Park’s Stewart Kemperman certainly feels it has brought the group together “The Camaraderie and the commonality of the players playing year in and year out was something that created the pride in the jumper.” Whilst it may not be the regular names that the EFL faithful are used to, the mix of youth and experience will not only bode well for the 2016 side but certainly will be an advantage to the sides the Eastern Football League puts on the ground for years to come.

The 2016 team is a mix of youth and experience with an average age of just over 25 with players at both the upper and lower end of the spectrum. The older heads have once again restored a pride in playing for the Eastern Football League with 12 players representing the league for a second time in three seasons. More importantly the number that will stand out too many when watching the game versus Geelong is the 16 players named in the squad of 30 that will potentially make their debut, the youngest of those, Darcy Crocker (Vermont) who is still eligible to play in the Under 19’s clash. No matter the make-up of the final 23, Moyle believes the side will certainly be competitive. “Regardless of who gets picked and who doesn’t, the side we assemble will be a quality outfit.” Having taking the win against the Western Region
