Remember You are what you eat!!
One good example of our crooked food intake is in regards to fruits and vegetables. I am of a firm belief that based on simple observations of people on a daily basis, fruit is arguably the least eaten of the five main food groups. However, the irony is it should the greatest. Furthermore, we all instinctively know this but for some reason just don’t seem to follow suit. Very tellingly in a recent nutritional survey, people were asked what they had eaten the day before: 1. 90% of people had eaten cereals, cereal products, milk, and milk products. 2. Over 50% people had eaten no fruit at all. When faced with reports like this, it’s no mystery to why there are epidemics of Obesity, Diabetes, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Heart Problems, Arthritis, Depression, Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorders (Adhd) And Cancer, Etc. Still, the question remains, why do so many people eat the foods that make them sick, tired and depressed? The answer to this may lie in the impeccable analysis of the human body that was done by Yoga sages of centuries gone. As stated in their associated literature known as The Bhagavad, there are three types of food namely:
1. Sattvic (Pure) Foods: Consisting of Fruits, Vegetables (Leaf & Root), Most Nuts and Seeds 2. Rajasic (Stimulating) Foods: Consisting of Meat, all forms of Flesh, Grains, Alcohol, Dairy, and Its by-products, spices and hot substances, processed and packaged foods 3. Tamasic (Impure and Rotten) Foods: Consisting of Overripe & rotten foods.
According to the Yogic sages, a human’s preference for any of the categories above is in accordance with the evolution or development of that person’s mind. Therefore, spiritually and mentally advanced people instinctively seek out the pure (Sattvic) diet, average worldly people prefer a stimulating (Rajasic) diet and of course the undeveloped man seeks out the Tamasic (Impure and rotten) items. Taking this into consideration, two sayings come to mind here: 1. You are what you eat. 2. As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.
Therefore, suffice it to say that what you eat has a distinct effect on the kind of person you are and this also is in regard to your thinking and speech. Consequently, pure food brings about purity and calmness of the mind and is soothing and nourishing to the body. Stimulating foods arouse animal passions in humans and brings about a restless state of the mind. They also cause nervous and circulatory disorders e.g. high blood pressure, uric acid and last but not least, the rotten foods make a person dull and lazy, with no high ideals or purposes in life and of course such a person suffers from chronic ailments of the body.
Now, I want you to try an experiment, get your favorite take-out meal: Mc Donald’s, Chinese, Mexican, Soul-Food or whatever floats your boat.
Get a serving for you and one for an imaginary guest. Empty his portion in a cooking vessel, using the same quantities as you are eating and drinking yourself. Stir this concoction thoroughly. Cook this mixture in an oven on a high temperature of about 400 degrees F, for no less than 30 minutes, heck use a microwave. Now cover the food and leave it overnight. I bet you when you remove the cover in the morning a distinct AND pungent surprise will await you. Well, that’s what it’s like on the inside of the average human! Therefore according to a man’s degree of mental purity, he instinctively chooses certain types of food. Furthermore, as you read on with this publication, you will find that certain items that are consumed daily such as grains, cereals and refined sugars are quite addictive, however, if the desire to want to improve one’s health is inherent in you right now, like a spark that can be fanned into bursting flames, you will indeed find the ways to overcome such addictions AND not have to compromise taste as will be discussed in my book below.
