The Gay Agenda: #1 Stay Alive

The world came to a stop when a shooter walked into Pulse, the premiere Gay club in the city of Orlando and opened fire. Now that the dust has settled and smoke has cleared, we have learned from reports that there are more than 50 dead and over 50 wounded, including a number of which in ICU, making it the most gruesome mass shooting in recent American history. What defines the pain for me, is an off the record quote from a first responder saying: “all I heard were the ringing of the victims’ cell phones”. I hadn’t fully understood the magnitude of this tragedy until the World Media picked it up- CNN, Facebook “Safety check-ins”, Fixed News, excuse me, I mean Fox News, and every other media outlet and social media platform. Of course, this affected me deeply, being a son of this city, and having friends, former classmates, and family members, who, gay and straight have previuosly frequented the club.It was extremely hectic and nerve-wracking to not know how many of your friends, if any, were in attendance, and if they all made it home. As more details and theories emerge, we have more information on this tragedy. The name of the shooter [who I won’t name because I refuse to give him any publicity], and possible motives for this TERRORIST ATTACK. Some details being the fact that the shooter had been investigated multiple times for ties to terrorist groups, had a history of domestic violence, was undergoing mental illness

July 2016

treatment, and also identified himself as Muslim (a believer of the Islamic faith), and of middle eastern decent. Now, obviously the Muslim ties spark a conversation I’ve personally had multiple times within the last 24 hours. Let’s be completely CLEAR about this, this MURDERER, by all accounts, didn’t practice the Islamic faith. He didn’t pray 5 times a day facing east, and he didn’t participate in Ramadan (obviously because Ramadan is going on right now, so he wouldn’t be in a night club). All this leads to the conclusion that he was no devout Muslim. He may have believed in the Islamic faith, and by some reports was inspired by his misguided understanding of the faith, but to blame any religion for one man’s mental illness and ugliness is simply irresponsible, and plain stupid. For the record, Islam is a faith based on love, as is true for most religions. So let’s leave the idiocy and insensitivity, because I for one am not here for it. Now for the reports of there being more than one shooter or people helping the gunman. I have information from a few people who were at the club confirming that there was someone blocking 1 or more of the exits, and one additional shooter (which is a strong possibility, as over 100 people were hit). Although I can’t tell you what happened inside that club, and it’s hard to imagine, what we do know is this: a guy with a mental health issue and an AR 15 assault rifle, and an unspecified handgun, changed the lives of our community forever. Now, on the topic of religion, I’ll say this and move on: I’ve seen a lot of crazy, just evil, comments about it being a gay club, so they “got what they deserved”, or “they’re going to hell”, or “God doesn’t like gays”. I could go on, but it’s disheartening to see the ugly that a tragedy such as this can produce. To spew HATE in the name of religion, or God, is TERRORISM. And if you decide to stand on the grounds of biblical principals then consider this: to condemn a man with your tongue, or to hate a person, is the same sin as murder and makes you no different than the gunman.

So if you don’t have it in you to be compassionate, at least be smart enough to be respectful. I’ve heard there is an “agenda” to “force” a gay culture on society, which is ridiculous. The fact is, there has been homosexuality as far back as documented history stretches, and it also appears in nature (bonobos, giraffes, dolphins, etc). So as far as a “gay agenda” goes, I don’t see it, but I do see an agenda to push HATE. The hate agenda is real. Now is not the time to be at odds about religion, or sexual orientation, or lifestyle differences. A man walked into a club with an assault rifle created for war, a handgun, and ill intentions. He stole life from people who thought they were going out to have a good time, but instead didn’t make it home that night. Terrorism isn’t fueled by religion, it’s fueled by HATE. Simply because a man identifies himself as a believer (in whatever belief systems that gets a person through the hurdles of life), doesn’t make that belief system the catalyst, or reason for his transgressions or evil deeds. To hate in the name of any God is terrorism and to kill in the name of God, is the same transgression, no matter which religion you follow. I won’t give you an anti-religion speech because, truthfully, right now people need something to hold on tight to. When things happen that we don’t understand, we lean on love. God is love, and if you don’t believe in God, then at least believe in LOVE.

Sincerely yours, a Negus from ORLANDO Send us love because we need it ankh my heart and hope to die Jus’ Black www.NegusInFlorida.com

Traveling in Budapest When I travel, I often avoid renting a carpartly because I prefer to avoid complications, but also for the adventure that can take place using public transportation. Budapest is one of those places that offer a variety of options for getting around- there are trolleys, busses, private double-decker busses, hop-on/ hop-off tours, bicycles and Segway rentals. Whichever way you choose to travel, there is no end to the variety of destinations available. If you’re interested in refining your cultural side, you can head up to the Castle District on the Buda side of the Danube River. The hillside is a maze of narrow, stone roads lined with ancient servant quarters and shops. There are a number of festivals held in the castle district throughout the year, with themes ranging from beer and wine to Renaissance and medieval celebrations… Oh! And let’s not forget the Sausage Fest… I can’t, however, tell you how that event actually gets celebrated.

Travel The World With Cornell walking around, plan a visit to the thermal baths. They are a large part of the Hungarian culture. Many Hungarians believe soaking in the pools is good for the mind and body, and soaking or swimming in the pools is part of a normal health maintenance routine. You know the saying, “When in Rome…” so of course I had to go stick a toe in… Because this city is known for their amazing baths, I had to check out the Dagály lido, which is located north of the Pest bridgehead of Árpád Bridge and operates all-year-round; I was told that the only time this bath is filled up is during beach season. There’s a variety of shopping options; malls similar to those in the US, high end boutiques, and to kitschy souvenir shops. One of the things I liked most though is the little passageways that lead into undetected courtyards and offbeat shops. If you aren’t looking for them, they are easily overlooked. If you are in search of an authentic foodie experience, you’re in the right spot. Most of restaurants offer up their versions of Hungarian classics- goulash, paprika chicken, schnitzel, potato pancakes, and a few other regional favorites. During the summer season, restaurants also offer a variety of lemonades, and I have enjoyed each one I’ve tasted. You might also consider taking a brunch or dinner cruise down the Danube River, where both the food and the views are picture perfect- no filters needed. The exchange rate is great for Americans, but I would advise downloading a currency converter on your phone and making sure you have an international data plan before heading out. It might also be

a good idea to download an interpreter app and google maps, as many locals do not speak English. It can be a challenge to figure anything out without these modern technologies! If you plan on staying for a bit and want a little more of a home feel, consider renting a furnished apartment or an executive apartment, then go to the Great Market. The first floor has a number of vendors that sell fruits, vegetables and meats, then you can go to the second floor to find a variety of souvenirs, local textiles, leather goods etc... You might also want to purchase some spices or bring some from home, as this type of accommodation does not usually come stocked.

Last but not least, while you’re there, don’t forget to try to interact with the people there! It might be a little tough if you don’t speak the language, but many people still do speak English, and part of the enjoyment on every trip is making new friends along the way and if you know anything about me, you will find out that I love making new friends…… - Cornell Bunting

The architecture in Budapest is amaz ing. Take time to walk around the city and explore. Churches, government buildings, and even the shops are encased in centuries old grandeur. It is all intricate, and very impressive. There are also a number of parks that become hotspots when the weather is good. After all that

One Man, Many Ribs.

With America’s favorite sister wives back in the news due to their husband’s decision to take on a 5th wife, this is the perfect moment to speak on a subject that leaves many of us with more questions than answers. Before I get started, I must warn you that there will be heavy Bible references in this article. Typically far from a religious magazine, this particularly sensitive subject is heavily based on the most read, most distributed book in the world, which many believe to be inspired by God. So that book will be referenced here, because that is the foundation of the reasoning for polygamy. More specifically, polygyny. Polygamy is having more than one spouse, polygyny is having more than one wife. That is the subject we will be exploring in this article. The Bible started off with the most beautiful love story of all time. God creates Adam, a man. God sees it unfit for man to be alone. God creates a helper out of one of his ribs; a companion, a friend, a partner in crime (as it turns out to be), a wife, Eve. If your argument is against polygyny, you probably yelled "Ah! Ha!" Believing your point to have been proven. You'd probably also quote Genesis 2:24 (KJV) "For man will leave his mother and father and cleave unto his wife." Wife, not Wives, you might point out. Did God misspeak? Did He forget the 'ves after the wi? And pay close attention here to the word "cleave”, it’s the same word used in Deuteronomy 10:20 "thou shalt fear the Lord thy God,

July 2016

Him shalt thou serve, and to Him shalt thou cleave..." Definition of the word is to stick to, to remain faithful to, to cling to. So far, I’m with you, if your argument is against polygyny. But, if your argument is FOR polygyny, you might advise me to keep reading further in the same book of Genesis where chapter 4 verse 19 tells us about Lamech having more than one wife. Or even the example of Abraham; an exemplary follower of God, a man who was willing to sacrifice his own son in the name of obedience, the father of nations. He also had more than one wife. Sarah & Hagar. And who could forget the story of Jacob, who fell madly in love at first sight with Rachel and served 7 years for her hand in marriage, only to be tricked on his wedding night into marrying her sister Leah and having to serve another 7 to finally marry Rachel as his second wife (out of a total of 4)? If those examples aren't enough, another argument for polygyny would be the provisions found in the Bible on how to properly govern that situation. In Exodus 21:10 it says "if he take another wife for himself, her food, her clothing, and her duty of marriage, shall he not diminish." Those are Biblical arguments to support being married to multiple women. Conventional debates in support of sharing a husband are more practical in reason. In reading multiple interviews and articles on people who choose a polyamory lifestyle, the reasons are more reasonable. One household, multiple streams of income, is the top notion. Being able to support each other financially and emotionally, even if you don't all live in the same household.

Being your own village, so to speak. Wife #1 can't find a babysitter? Call wife #2 and say "hey sis, can I drop Jr off?" Husband decides to take everyone on a family trip, a $3000 tab is split evenly into 4 pieces and doesn't cause a strain on anyone's household budget. Wife #1 feeling weighted down by life? Call Wife #3 and chat it out. Sisterhood governed by love and mutual respect. A great ideology. But how much of a possibility is that concept? In many parts of the world, polygyny is allowed for reasons other than sisterhood or emotional support. For example, Fundamentalist Mormons in Utah believe a man must marry at least 3 wives to enter the celestial kingdom of God. Alternatively, research conducted by Nigel Barber, Ph.D, for Psychology Today, found that in 32 countries where polygyny is practiced, a scarcity of males in the population is the number one reason for the practice. It also shows polygyny to be practiced in countries having a heavy infectious disease rate, or countries where men are able to monopolize wealth, whether in terms of earned income or farm land. Whether practicing polygyny due to Biblical reasons, a scarcity in the male population, high disease rates, or financial support, nothing trumps personal comfort as a reason to be for or against the lifestyle. There is someone out there for everybody and if sharing is not your forte, I'm sure there's someone out

Page 6

TruWisdom there who shares that sentiment. Me personally, here's my take on it. Since we started the argument with the Bible, I'm going to start my thoughts from there as well. Exodus 21:10 "if he take another wife for himself, her food, her clothing, and her duty of marriage, shall he not diminish." I shouldn't feel as though I'm part of a crew. I shouldn't have to feel as though I have to wait my turn. Logically I can't expect to have him to myself 24/7. But, its quality time that matters, not the quantity. If a man is going to make me a part of a sisterhood, there shouldn't be any cause for jealousy between the sister wives. Equal and fair treatment would be my request. Bottom line: as long as he is able to successfully balance multiple relationships, without causing any feelings of competition or transporting any bad vibes from one relationship to another. If he is able to successfully spend quality “just us” time, with me, without our relationship diminishing or suffering in anyway due

to his relationship with another, then hey, bring on the sisters. One wife shouldnt be able to tell how the other relationship is going based off of any mood that’s not directly caused by her. What I mean by that is, say I’m in a relationship with someone who has 3 other wives, and shares a home with each of us. When he leaves the home he shares with wife #2, I shouldn’t be able to tell whether or not they are getting along based on the energy he’s bringing to me. If he’s happy, let it be because he’s genuinely happy to see me, not because they had a great time connecting all night long. Along those same lines, I shouldn’t see him and immediately have the urge to call up wife #2 to say “Hey sis, can you relax on the negativity? Bae’s coming home too stressed out lately.” Also, our time together should be our time together. Not time spent dealing with others or whatever personal relationship baggage that he is carrying from one house to another. What good would it be to spend time with your man, only to sit back as he argues or main-

tain romantic conversations with the next woman? When he’s with you, it should be all you. Almost as though the others are nonexistent. But realistically, is that even possible? Is it feasible for a relationship involving multiple personalities and characters, with different upbringings, values, and habits to be successful? Is there a true probability of unity, sisterhood, and love multiplied? Personally, if I had to choose between monogamy and polygamy, I would choose a nice traditional man who creeps on the low (if he must) and respects me enough to never let me find out, and allows me to go on believing he only has eyes for me. Self love, and whatever your soul is at peace with is the right choice in this matter. And no article or Bible verse can help you make the comfortable choice. Because ultimately, you always have the choice of being happily single. -Written by Rachelle Ford

You've Got A Friend In Me Defining Loyalty in Friendships.

What makes a good friendship? I have been asked this many times, and after much contemplation, my answer is: loyalty. A friend's loyalty is a wonderful gift. When loyalty is missing, other values will certainly suffer in any friendship. This is a quality that you should look for in a friend, as friendships can be very complicated at times, but loyalty between friends will hold the friendship together. When I am asked how deep my loyalty go toward my friends, I always respond with this quote from Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, a poet, '"If all my friends were to jump off a bridge, I wouldn't

July 2016

follow, I'd be at the bottom to catch them when they fall". Remember, a good friend is someone who walks into your world when the rest of your world is walking out. An often heard quote from an anonumous source reads,"Good friends are hard to find, harder to leave, and impossible to forget." Do you have a friend with whom you dare to really be yourself? Do you trust him/ her with thoughts that just about make you naked? Do you both say what you think (as long as it is genuine) without feeling put on guard? Just knowing you are with someone who understands loyalty in your friendship, what a wonderful feeling that is. With this friend you can cry with, laugh with, pray, and never feel bad about exposing who you really are. Remember- loyalty is built up over time, and very few people give themselves the

time to be true friends. My mother always told me that a best friend is just like a four leaf clover, very difficult to find, and very lucky to have. Loyalty, as it relates to friendship, is hard for me to explain, and I know that we did not learn what it is in school, but I would offer that if you have not learned the meaning of loyalty in friendship, then you really have not learned anything about the subject. Great friends are like the stars in the sky. You do not always see them, but you know for sure that they are there. -FancySays

Numbers

Men Lie, Women Lie, Numbers Don’t

“Needed me” and “Sorry” are two of my favorite songs for the past few weeks. Played back to back, they are both the perfect anthem to let it be known, “hey playa, you fck me over, its your loss!” Why is it that the world won’t allow my playlist to be great and want to insist that I must join a team? Beyhive or Navy? I feel like there will be a day when I will have to show my membership card and I’m not sure what the reaction of the powers that be will be when they see that in fact I carry both cards. Recently, war erupted on twitter when Rihanna liked a shady tweet pointing out how her track “Desperado” off of her album “Anti” was doing better than a certain single that was played in front of a global audience (Beyonce’s “Formation”). Dual-membership affiliates didn’t know how to react as they watched the Beyhive and the Navy throw shade at each other like live grenades. But shade and opinions aside, what are the facts? Fan Base What you don’t want on the internet is to cross paths with either the Beyhive or the Navy. Both groups will drag you with facts and insults and attack your soul until you delete your internet all together. According to TheHitsRadio.com “A play on the word beehive, Beyoncé is the Queen Bey, her followers are the Beys who collectively belong to The Hive.” It was acknowledged as the official fan nickname by Beyoncé in 2011. Rihanna’s fans, in turn, are called the #RihannaNavy; a name given to the stans (super fans) by the singer herself after starring in the movie Battleship where she plays a Naval Officer. With Bey’s 73.9M followers on Instagram (IG) and 14.5M twitter followers to Rihanna’s 39.8M and 61.6M, respectively; Beyonce wins the IG trophy, the platform on which she’s more active than any other form of social media. Rihanna wins the twitter trophy hands down, mostly due to her shady tweets, likes, and clapbacks. Ranking Lemonade landed Beyonce her 6th #1 album on the Billboard 200 chart with its debut last April. Her single “Sorry” from the album, currently sits at an apologetic #46 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart while “Formation” quietly hovers in #88. Lemonade currently chills in the #2 position in the Billboard 200 chart. Anti, Rihanna’s 2nd album to hit #1 on the Billboard 200 chart, released last February is currently taking up the #6 spot. Her singles, “Needed me”, “Work” and “Kiss It Better” are currently at #9, #12 and #96 on the Hot 100 chart. Sales & Streams As Beyonce’s husband and Rihanna’s manager Jay-Z would say, “Men Lie, Women Lie, Number’s Don’t”. So what are the numbers so far in 2016? As of June 2nd, Beyonce’s Lemonade sold 55,544 in pure album sales and figured 8,652,574 in streams (due in large part to the album only being available on Tidal). Rihanna’s Anti, is slowly lagging behind with 9,960 pure album sales but makes up in streaming with 34,902,097. Fashion Endeavors In 2016, both music queens have launched their own clothing line. Ivy Park for Bey, which features athletic wear and Fenty for Rihanna, distributed thru Puma and inspired by Japanese fashion. Both lines are doing extremely well, with Ivy Park selling out online not too long after initial opening day and Puma seeing a substential rise in sales with the help of Rihanna’s line. In true mogul fashion, Rihanna has also launched “Desert Denim”, a denim shoe line with Manolo Blahnik.

My creation process is, I’m in the studio and soon as I hear a beat, I’m more of a freestylist. Whatever comes out, it’s usually from the heart and we put it on wax. Then we listen to it, and if there’s anything on there that I like, then I’ll take that to format my song with. If I said I sit down and write, I’d be lying to you. Are you currently working on another project? Or are you sorely focused on pushing your latest one?

PYRO In His Own Lane

I was actually listening to your cd on Is that the lane you’re deciding to stay in? my way to the interview, and I see that you mix alot of Hip Hop with Kompa. Yeah, pretty much that’s going to be my Is that on purpose? Is that your flow? sound now, but I’ll continue on with the R&B that everyone know me for, a little It’s on purpose. It was something I bit of Hip Hop as well. I’m just gonna keep was being told by family, and a lot mixing it up more. This time around, I of friends of mine- that I should go had about 5-6 songs that had the Kompa into that lane. That was the first time and R&B mixed in, the next mixtape or trying it out, and it came out pretty album is going to be more like 80% of good, so we kept on going with the that mix. I’m also planning on doing alot same flow for the rest of the mixtape. more in Creole. How did you mix the two, and make What has the response been so far from this new genre of music you’ve taken on? it flow so effortlessly like that? I heard a couple of the Haitian Kompa groups who were doing it a little bit, but I felt I could do a lot better. So from there, it was getting the right melodies, the right tones, and all that. So I sought out one of my old producers from a long time ago, from Miami, and I asked him if he could construct my beat to have Kompa, but still have a Hip Hop vibe to it. It came out pretty good and everyone liked it, so I decided to keep going with that flow, so it worked out pretty good.

July 2016

It’s been pretty good. I mean, I’m sitting here talking to you, so something must have happened. It’s all about doing the footwork and really getting yourself out there. Doing the hand to hand cd exchanges, supporting the local businesses so they in turn support you. You know, footwork. And I’m gonna try to do the social media thing a bit more too. Take us through your creation process from beginning to end.

I’m currently working on a another project, while pushing this one. I’m working on Kite Yo Pale 2 and the process for that is, we’re taking songs that didn’t make it to the first mixtape to make a whole new project. When I do a mixtape, I like the songs to take you though a journey, I want them to all flow together. And a lot of the songs didn’t make it because they didn’t fit in with the songs that I already had on there. Any plans on touring? Definately got performances coming in Fort Myers, one in Immokalee in July, and also some projects lined in up in South Carolina. I wasn’t even aware that they had a large Haitian community up there. Not that I’m saying I’m only doing Haitian music, but we’re going to start working some projects up there. And once I work out some situations with Immigration, then hopefully I can also do some projects in Haiti. And where can we check out your music and your upcoming events? PyroJMusic.com & Zoe Boi muzik Is that the label? No, it’s not a label, it’s actually the type of music that we do and that’s what we call. We are Haitian and we do music, it’s just a name for our style of music. Interviewed by Ladychelle

Zoe Nes

Life Lessons Turned to Motivation At first glance, Zoe Nes appears to be a calm, collected soul. The artistic type whose emotions are hard to read and who only comes alive in the booth. Turns out, we were right on point with our first impression. Sitting down with music artist Zoe Nes under a shaded tree in a quiet Naples neighborhood, Ladychelle got a chance to dig deeper with the Haitian born singer/rapper who’s recently decided to move his talents to Atlanta for a chance at a better future.

How long have you been writing?

First, with the introduction of your name, Zoe Nes, it already speaks of your heritage. Is that on purpose?

Its 99% music. I actually have my partner, my lady, who has a hair line and other ventures (a non profit for girls) that she’s trying to do, and I’m committed to help her achieve them.

Not really, Nes is a broken down part of my first name. People would call me Nes or Haitian Nes, and I just like Zoe Nes better. What is your style of music? It’s more like R&B, Hip Hop. It’s more like a Drake style. I get the feel from you, that music is more than just an art, and it’s more so a creative outlet for you. Am I correct? Oh yea, music is tied to my emotions, I can write music all day. Its from the heart. Whether I’m in a good mood or a bad mood, I channel it all out through music. Music kind of follows my life; you can listen to the music and pretty much figure out what’s going on with me. It just takes me to another place.

July 2016

I’ve been writing since 2003, I started taking music serious in 2004 when I got out of prison. I had a friend in prison, he’s serving a life sentence. He’s never coming home. When I got out, he told me, “You don’t even have to write [me] or anything, I just want to see you make it.” So I came home and took off. I can’t let him down. I’m motivated by those who want to see me succeed. Apart of music, what else are you into? or is it 100% music?

How is it working with your lady? You have your ups and downs, but at the end of the day, thats your partner. It makes your relationship stronger, and easier to manage, because you have alot in common and you have the same goals. You never run out of things to say, you motivate each other. You’re currently working on your second project, can you tell us about that? It’s called Kill Switch. I get in the studio and just kill everything. What advise would you give a young artist who’s balancing street life and music? Make every decision count

Tru Wiz Beyond The Music “Music means life to me” says Hip Hop lyricist Tru Wiz. Born and raised in New York, but now calling Florida home, Tru has a different outlook on music. “It’s a mean to an end.” And what is that end he’s aiming for? The attention of the people; so that he is able to offer aid, and uplift an oppressed African American community. To the expert songsmith, who’s flow and lyrics leave everyone wanting more, music is so much more than a beat, some hot 16’s and a hook. He believes music is a direct influencer of change and lifestyle. His favorite, and first ever rapper who’s music he’s ever fell in love with, being Big Daddy Kane, the rapper and business man tells Ford Ent Magazine in an exclusive interview. “People listen to music when they’re going through something, or when they want it to put them in whatever mood they wanna be in. If you wanna be in a happy mood, you usually put on happy music, whatever that might be to you. I feel like music is a drug. People are addicted to it. They use music to pave the way toward things that might be taking off in the future.” He feels a certain responsibilty, as a public figure, to influence social change. “When you look at how Hip Hop has changed the urban culture. When you had the people, and groups, like Public Ennemy, Goodie Mob, KRS-One. When you heard them,, they were talking about something meaningful. It was “Fight the powers that be!” It was that type of thing going on,

July 2016

versus what you got now: “Turn Up! Turn Up! Turn Up! Shoot and Kill! Be simple, Be stupid!” And that’s exactly what’s going on when you look at the urban community. Through the music they’re being dumbed down.” Ford Ent Mag asked “What responsibility do you feel an artist holds when it comes to influencing social change personally?” The Bronx native answered: “A big influence. They’re the examples that everybody is following. These

individuals are put on high pedastals. That’s why they make so much money, that’s what they’re so glorified. They are looked up to by everybody. They’re looked AT by eveybody. But now that you have everybody’s eyes on you, it’s up to you what you do with that situation.” Living in an era that seems to date back to the 1950s civil unrest, where African Americans had to fight for the basic rights to live and feel safe in society, Tru’s thoughts on the subject run deeper than rap. “My thoughts on that is, those people don’t respect us, they don’t care about us. And its not even a matter of “until you respect yourself they won’t

respect you.” Its not about all that, they just don’t respect us. Whether we respect ourselves our not. There are alot of people of color that are doing respectable things with themselves, and the images that are being portrayed are still those of negativity. So you just don’t overall respect us. We are overall not respected. My thoughts where that’s concerned is that the violent only respond to the violent. I’m not going to elaborate on that. Because we’ve been peaceful, we’ve been protesting, that’s been going on, that’s what the Million Man March is. We’ve been peaceful. But the violent only understands violence.” Regardless if you’re fighting for social justice, being made aware of your influence to affect social change, or just wanting to vibe along to some great tunes, Tru’s catalog has something for everyone. “There’s a little bit of everything, something for everyone. That was a question that was asked of me- what is your demographic, who are you trying to reach? I’m trying to reach the world. When Michael Jackson came out, there wasn’t a specific group of people that he was targeting, the man made music that everybody could love. Everybody. Didn’t matter what color or creed, everybody loved him. So I’m not making music for a specific class of people, I make music for everybody.” This article is a reprint from Tru WIz’s cover feature in the February issue of Ford Ent Magazine. The Man Behind The Music Our Favorite DJ:

In this industry, it’s rare to see passion beyond the fame for a particular craft. With Spinmaster Viani you get just that! All passion. Ford Entertainment Magazine’s Man of The Year and Favorite DJ spends all of his free time in the studio, rocking one of his many pairs of headphones. Foregoing any other forms of entertainment July 2016

such as tv or movies, lending all of his focus on the sound. Having worked with multiple well known artists, Spinmaster Viani is extremely precise with his music selection, which you can clearly experience in his mixes as he spins multiple genres effortlessly, from Hip Hop, to House, to Euro to Reggae etc... In a world filled with reality tv shows, photo-shoots, and social media platforms that offer everyone an outlet to be an instant star, with Spinmaster Viani, it’s all about the passion. He chooses to remain fully entwined in the music, and focused on his craft. This D.J., a New York Native who got his start at life from the bottom in the Bronx, has an ear for intricate

music, but he’s not focused on the spotlight. Instead, he sets his sights on the turntables, the bpms, and making sure his audience has a truly profound experience. He describes his time in the booth as his hide-out, his own world. And he shares that part of his world with us daily. Whether though the airwaves spinning for prestigious radio stations, or leaning above turntables and a mac, surrounded by strobe lights reflecting off swaying, sweaty dancing bodies,Viani gives his whole heart to his craft. Apart from his love for music, our favorite DJ is also a business man. As the owner of multiple nightclubs from Las Vegas to New York, to our very own V Lounge here in Ft Myers, Spinmaster Viani is no stranger to the night life - and the success it brings. ventures of multiple club ownerships from his very early 20s, this owner of an exclusive collection of shoes, high-end watches and cars, is an excellent example of how much you can accomplish when you truly follow your passion, and the wealth you’re able to accumulate and being able to live in multiple states, when that passion is focused.

Hair

Long gone are the days where the motto was bundles over everything. Black women everywhere are embracing their natural hair, and few are rocking it better than actress Lupita Nyong’o. The ‘12 Years A Slave’, ‘Star Wars’ and ‘Jungle Book’ star slays each red carpet with a look that leaves your eyes in awe. She definately is #HairGoals. Not that there’s anything wrong with getting your weave on, but for so long, women hid their natural hair in cornrows, under sew-ins and hair glue. It’s uplifting to see that it’s no longer the only acceptable choice. Great to see natural hair finally winning.

According to GetBevel.com “Some shaving tools can cut the hair below the skin for an extra close shave. However, if you have curly, coarse hair that’s cut below the skin, the hair can curl and bend back into the skin causing small, painful bumps. All Summer ‘16

This is it ladies! Some of us have been training the last 6 months (7 if you started after Thanksgving, 1 if you, like me, started last month). Either way, we’ve been working hard, and have sacrificed so much, just to get summertime fine and this is our moment. But with every great moment, comes the dreaded “What do I wear” dliemma. How do you display your hard-earned beach body in the best, most flattering, trendiest way possible? Bathing suits are, in theory, the simplest pieces of clothing but yet choosing the right one for our body type can prove at times to be so complicated. Ford Ent Mag reached out to the fabulous Dionne “Lush” Rockefeller for advice on this month’s Fashionable or Questionable.

The beach is all about relaxation, fun and sun. The only thing you should stress about is whether or not you packed the sunscreen-and how you’re going to get all that sand out of your crevices. The swimsuit of your choice needs to be comfortable and make you feel confident. If you’re thicker than a snicker bar, designers such as Monif C and Nakimuli has some fantastic peices such as the ‘Havana’ or the ‘St Tropez Fringe’ suits. If you’re slim thick, a high waited number such from Amy Clubwear may be your style. Built like a video Vixen, or heading to a pool party thats more party than pool? Draya’s Mint Swin collection is your answer.

Dance Like No When did you start dancing? I started dancing at the age of 6. When Michael Jackson came out with his moon walk, which was crazy, I used to copy him. I started taking dancing serious when I first moved to Florida, I was getting out of middle school and going into high school. Freshman year, I joined the step team and started doing battles and all that. My crew was called Hypnotic Movements, we would go out and do shows at Ft Myers Beach and that’s where my dancing kind of skyrocketed. And you teach as well, is there a difference between dancing for yourself and teaching others how to dance? There’s a huge difference. Dancing for myself is a way for to express myself versus simply telling somebody how I feel. With teaching, I get to enjoy humanity a little bit more. It’s a way for me to get to know all kinds of people and different types of personalities. Being able to teach someone who says they have 2 left feet and watching them catch on is a great way to enjoy the power of dance. When you’re not dancing or teaching others how to dance, what else do you do? Me and a friend of mine’s, we own a company called Laservision Studios. We do websites and application designs, repairing and building computers.

Marcus Taylor Angel

How long have you been dancing? I’ve been dancing for 16 years, since I was 5 years old. Dancing helps me. It helps with every negative or positive emotion. Why? Because dancing is part of my life. I am a lyrical hip hop dancer, although I do dance all types of styles. But I love partner dances, Ballroom is a genre I would love to learn. I can dance pretty much everything else, except ballroom. Are you ready to take your dancing to another level? I would love to be known for my dancing, or acting, or anything within the performing arts field. Although it’s not something I’m ready for right now, with my mom being sick and me having to help with my siblings, I’m the oldest of 7, but it’s definately in my future plans. It’s something I lose sleep over, because I want this so bad. But I understand the current situation and it’s just not my time yet.

Paris Is dancing something you’re trying to pursue professionally or is it a hobby? Dancing is a hobby for me, I’ve danced since I was little and also was part of a dance team back in highschool. But my favorite part of being on the dance team was being able to do every one’s make up and hair. Which is my true passion and goal. I’m currently in the process of getting my license, then I want to work in a salon for a little bit. My mission is, to one day start my own lipstick line. Something organic, with great colors that will focus on women of color. I’ve already made some prototypes and have been working really hard on it. It’s a great feeling when you do someone’s hair and make up and they walk out the door transformed. Like, “I did that. That’s my name walking out the door.”

One Is Watching

Why do they call you Bizzy The Kid? Its more so from an artistic standpoint, I’m always “Busy” pun intended. But no one wanna be called B.U.S.Y, so I go by B.I.Z.Z.Y and The Kid because I’m 20 years old but at the same time, my whole aspect of creativity comes from the little kid in me who never wants to grow up. How long have you been dancing and how did you get started? I’ve been dancing for 7 years. I got inspired more so by the homies I used to dance with. It was back during the popular dance movies like Step Up 2, so I used to look at the homies like “I wanna do that”, then dance became a lifestyle to me and now I breathe and live dance. I attend workshops, I’ve made top 16 in battles, I have a Youtube page: Bizzy Allen, and I’m also the founder of an artistic dance movement called RULE. That stands for Respect Understand Love Evolve. That movement is all about storytelling through dance. I have 4 other people in my dance collective and they all have different dance styles besides Hip Hop. One is great at spanish dancing, the other is great at contemporary, another is very good at a very dope style of Hip Hop called popping. And myself, my specialty is called Flexing or Bone Breaking and that’s where I flex my muscles to the music and my joints are moving and don’t stay in the particular area they are meant to stay in.

Bizzy The Kid At what point did dancing go from a hobby to something more serious? It started off when I was dancing in church and I did a Hip Hop routine and I got a lot of good feedback, and I started connecting with other dancers and that sparked in me an interest to pursue it further as more than just a hobby. Explain dance to me Dance to me is kinda of like a super power in a way that it’s a universal language, where you can say whatever you want through dance, and express any kind of emotion you may be feeling. What plans do you have for your dancing? Dancing has allowed me to connect and build a family and a network. I’m currently a political science student and through the skills and network I have built through dancing I will be able to take my career and my goals even further.

In The News BREXIT: The Facts

Early Friday morning, June 23rd, 2016, news broke that British voters elected to exit the European Union (EU). The EU, historically assembled to ensure peace and shared resources amongst European countries after the devastating blemish of World War II, eventually grew to include the UK. Friday’s vote to exit the union was primarily motivated by the perception that the EU had too much influence over the UK’s tax policies, financial regulation ,and immigration levels. Despite the urging of international leaders, and Prime Minister David Cameron’s referendum to improve the terms of the relationship, voters have clearly lost confidence in the alliance. Rocsi dated Eddie Murphy for a spell, who admittedly stated he went on a few dates with Whitney Houston, who in turn had a public dating stint with the “One Wish” singer. Eddie Murphy shared the stage with Snoop Dogg (who is cousin to Ray J by the way), who then shared the booth with French Montana on a single. Who’s your daddy, Khloe? According to Sportingnews.com, O.J. Simpson has reportedly agreed to give a DNA sample for a paternity test to see if Khloe Kardashian is his biological daughter. He has also requested she visit him at the Lovelock Correctional Center in Nevada, where he is currently serving a sentence of 33 years for robbery and kidnapping. Khloe’s dad, as we know him to be, is Robert Kardashian, who passed away in 2003. A longtime friend of O.J., he was on the defense team that helped him beat the infamous murder charges for the deaths of Nicole Brown-Simpson and Ronald Goldman in 1994.

Kris Jenner, Khloe’s mom, admitted in a memoir to having cheated on her husband, although she’s never revealed with whom. Two of Robert Kardashian’s exes have also laid claims that Khloe is not a Kardashian. This new paternity information comes from a Reelz Documentary where they interviewed a guard who watched over O.J. for several years, and even wrote a book called “Guarding the Juice.” In the interview, the guard, Jeffrey Felix, claims Khloe has begged Simpson for a paternity test before, but Simpson will only take the test

Childhood Dream Turned Realtiy When did you realize this was your What is the first step that you took to dream? kick off your business/services? When I was 6 and my aunt was 9, we use to play with our dolls in our room. We would pretend to own a salon named "Honey Chile". We would have water, grease, rollers, gel, and combs and brushes eveywhere. My great grandmother would yell "Ya’ll ‘bet not be in that water". We would start every conversation with “honey chile”! It was fun and hilarious. I came up in a family that couldn't afford to go to hair salons, so I learned the skills to do hair by age 12 and always kept a client list every where we moved. “Unique is defined as having no like or equal. Unparalleled. Incomparable. I pondered this for quite some time. My service is not unique, my client is. I write Erotica, those who read it are a unique class of people. It is my belief that every author is the same. We all lose sleep, we are all concerned with will our books sales, and if should we self-publish or not. Are we making a profit? The thing that may set me apart from others is I am new in the game, and there is someone I am watching, and soon someone will be watching me.” A self-published author, who’s first book, released in June 2016 is entitled “The Sound of Acquiescence”, and who’s currently working on the second book (a three-part series), “The Gift of Her Submission”, wants you to know she is more than a writer of erotica. “I dont have an issue with telling people how I feel, I’m a very open person about feelings. My grandfather passed in 1997, I remember the day before driving past his house and saying “I’ll see him tomorrow”, since I saw him every Halloween since I was a kid. And he died. And I regret that day even to this day. Because I could have just stopped by to say hi. I’ll never get that “Hi” again, or hear his giggle. So I’m always telling people how I feel about them. Through writing, it gives me an avenue where I can say: This is just not the Candace that you all know. The Candace that you all know is an upbeat and loving person. But there’s another facet to me, there’s this person that is sexual.”

July 2016

Ladychelle, from Ford Ent Magazine asked: Is erotica the genre of books you’re going to be focused on or will you take on different other topics in your writing? Different aspects, definetly. I have 2 other books that I’m looking to write. One of them, I’m not so much writing the book, I just want to publish it. I want to reach out to the community and say: If you’ve been affected by gun violence and want to share your story in anyway-if you have a story you want to tell, a poem you want to share, even a mother writing a letter to their child they’ve loss. I want those stories, to put together into one place, to represent Fort Myers. Although I don’t live there, my son is there 40% of the time. And I am terrified of him being in Fort Myers. In 2014, I dreamt that my son was shot. And the dream was so vivid. That’s my gift, being able to see things. And my dream was so vivid that I woke up in tears. So I had this thing where I’d be sitting back saying, “Well, we don’t live there, we don’t live there.” But now that he is there, I’m thinking, “How do I stop

that from happening?” So I wanted to do this book, because I wanted people to know, we are more than Lil Pakistan. Why do we want such a negative cloud looming over us? I have a girlfriend who is dealing with a son who witnessed the death of 2 friends. He was sitting in one spot and his friend asked him to switch spots. Within 5 minutes, the gunshot rang. Her son could have been in that spot. So now this 16 year old is dealing with survivor’s guilt. When I hear those stories, and I hear her cry, I’m like “God, we have to become more than this. Because I don’t want to be that mother who is burying her son.” Look out for Candace as she continues to share her stories with the world, as she searches for healing for a wounded community. She is also working on establishing her business, Candace Michelle, LLC.

When did you realize this was your dream? Four years ago, I fed my love for fashion by designing my own unique style of clothing. I realized designing clothes was a skill set I could master, so I learned how to sew. I received numerous compliments on clothes I had altered. Within weeks my vision became a reality. Some doubted me, but I proved them wrong, becoming more and more creative.

Made It". That's when it dawned on me that that's what I wanted my clothing line to be called. Once I got the name, I made the Facebook page. Facebook has been good, but I believe Instagram is really where it's at (in regards to being recognized worldwide quicker). So, making those social sites, and word of mouth through friends and family, were the first steps. What finally convinced you to go for it?

My interests began to deepen as I devoted more time to it. I began looking up other designers, typically those around my age, and they influenced me. To see so many young individuals not only hustling, but doing it by themselves, and being their own boss is amazing. The compliments I received were amazing. My mother plays a big role as well. How long have you actively pursued your craft? I started four years ago initially with screen printing, but shortly after I pursued sewing. I enjoy sewing more than screen printing, but I continue to do both. Once I learn the basics of sewing, it's was not difficult to learn how to design different pieces of clothing.

A good friend, Onel, actually helpedwhether he believes it or not. I changed the name twice before sticking with Spiff Made It. He helped with that tremendously! He was the first paying customer I designed a shirt for, and the first person I hand painted shoes for. He would walk around [in my designs], and when people asked him where he got it from, he'd say "Spiff

What are the perks of being your own boss? Everything I just mentioned above basically. Doing things on my own schedule is great. Most customers give me the freedom of creating whatever I put my mind to, which is the best feeling. I love not having to seek approval from anyone. From the sizes, to what type of clothing, to the artwork, to the choice of fabric... It's all the freedom of expression and creativity through Spiff. “Are their hustles hopeless hobbies, or do they really have what it takes to set up for the come up”? –Celeste Celeste (Creator, Director, Producer) Reality TV is the new norm! Everyone seems to tune into some sort of reality TV show once a week, faithfully. Through shows like The Real Housewives, Love & Hip Hop, and of course The Real World, we all know reality TV can either make or break someone’s future. Whether their 15 minutes of fame ran out after the season finale, or they’re able to carry the torch years later. A lot of household names either got their start on reality TV, or resorted to it to reignite that flame. Reality TV gives people a platform from which they express themselves unapologetically, showcase their talent (if they have one), or set a few people up to get wet from a drink toss. Though violence is never the answer, controversy makes for good TV. The Come Up is an independent reality TV show pilot that will follow 8 up and coming entrepreneurs on their way to the top. The pilot will be sent to TV stations to (hopefully) be picked up and released to the public at a national level. The Come Up shows life in the trenches, with these cast members putting the real back in REALity. With some cast members being more seasoned than others, one thing that they have in common, IS THAT CHECK! Executive producers Celeste Celeste & Kevin Rueda joined forces to make this dream become reality. Not only for them, but for the cast members they handpicked for

July 2016

this show. The Come Up is set in Fort Myers, Florida but also featuring cast members from New York as well as Atlanta, Georgia. As Celeste and Kevin, along with the rest of the production team, are away working hard in the editing room, Ford Ent got to sit down with The cast of The Come Up to see how the journey to the top, as a unit, has been thus far. Only a few weeks into production, the side eyes, tuning out, shade throwing, and tension is already happening- though overall the vibe is good. It’s almost clear you can see who will be at the top, and who will be holding drinks. As we sat down with the cast, we did an old fashion roll call to see who these bosses are. First, Monique Ward. A 31 year old woman who is from New York but based in Atlanta, Georgia. “Me and my partner, Manny, have been running our company, On The Map Media Inc., since July 2011. Together we offer audio engineering, videography, photography, photo retouching, graphic design, web development, consulting, and administrative support.” It has been said Monique is silent, but deadly. Through her humility, we know there a beast inside of that little woman. Next we have Miss Mikey, “I am an openly gay man living with HIV, and I use my diagnosis not as a crutch, but as a catapult. I am a spoken word artist and founder of Let’s Talk About It, Inc. My company is still in the growing stages, but what we offer is public speaking engagements that touch base on taboo topics such as HIV/AIDS awareness, racial and social injustice, rape and domestic violence awareness. I am a published author as

well.” Miss Mikey seems to always get the conversation going with his spunk and ‘tell it like it is’ attitude. Though some may gravitate, others don’t know how to receive him. Tiffany Marie, a married mother of 8 shows she’s not only a boss at home but also with her own business! “My business, SheEO Mommy Edition, is simply about women empowerment, especially mothers, who are, like myself, on the come up.” Tiffany’s husband, Ramar, will be making some cameo appearances alongside his wife. Kolaa Kocki, formerly known as Kim Cartelle, is a Detroit native that lives in Fort Myers, Florida. She is an all-around artist. Rapper/Singer/Songwriter. Kolaa eloquently gave Ford Ent and her cast mates her resume, “I’ve opened up for Nicki Minaj, worked with Zaytoven, Travis Porter, as well as Verse Simmons and Yo Gotti.” Another cast member who has been exposed on a more national level is Marcus Willis, who is often referred to by his cast mates as THE CHAMP IS HERE! “I am 29 years old and I co-own Team Willis Boxing and Family Fitness. I am also a professional boxer who’s been featured on HBO, ESPN2, Showtime, Telemundo, and Pay-Per-View. As an amateur fighter, I had 125 fight (10811), I was ranked #2 in the nation in 2004. From 2004-2008, I remained in the top 10.” Marcus, alongside Miss Mikey, is the only other male cast member. He is quite charming and easy on the eyes as many people have noted. “My name is Nicole McLemore. I am 25 and from Fort Myers Florida.” Nicole is the CEO of her company, BlessingAnEmpire.org as well as a social media strategist. Her company

is fairly new, but she’s not new to the grind. As you can see, majority of the cast is from Florida but don’t think The Come Up stops there! Hailing all the way from New York we have sisters and business partners Ajianna & Aaliyah. They co-own Sisters & Diamonds, which is a party planning and hosting company. Ajianna has ventured outward, also into selling mixed drinks which are gaining quite the recognition in the boroughs along with baby couture. Now that we have gotten a feel for these bosses working in the trenches, let’s see how well they can get through this group interview without the shade throwing! What does “The Come Up” mean to you? Monique: The Come Up means rising talent, on the way to being something huge, hard-working, success driven, and much more. Miss Mikey: The Come Up means that I’m climbing the ladder. I’m meeting people on the way to the top that are helping me get there, but I may not see them there. The Come Up is a dog eat dog world and only the hungry eat!

Who do you get along with the most? The least? Nicole: My best friend and also cast member Tiffany. The least, would have to be that New York girl, Ajianna. She has too big of a mouth for me. Tiffany: I get along with Nicole the most because as she said, we were friends before coming into this. The least, I would say the girls from New York (Aaliyah & Ajianna) no tea, no shade. I just don’t know them. Ajianna: I love Miss Mikey! We talk more than a lot of people know it. The least, would have to be Nicole. As you can see readers, the tea is already being fixed as the division is clear as day who is with who. You could cut the tension with a knife! What do you hope to gain from this experience? Miss Mikey: I hope to gain exposure as well as new business relationships that my business could profit from. I also hope to save a life or two! Monique: I hope to build new and personal relationships, learn from my cast mates, expose my business, work, and have fun!

Had this show not have happened, How do you feel about your role on would you have worked with your cast members without the cameras? “The Come Up”? Kolaa: I feel like I bring the sass and Marcus: If it is beneficial to BOTH of the class to the show. I make the our businesses, I’m not opposed to it. comfortable uncomfortable as well! How important is remembering Nicole: I have always been labeled “There is no I in team” while on this a leader so it’s not a surprise the journey, The Come Up, with seven directors seen that in me. Rightfully other cast mates? so! Because if you’re smart and follow Marcus: If all of us in here were my way, I’ll lead you to success. building a house, but only one of us is Is reality TV something you always wanted to do? Marcus: I’ve always been interested. I used to watch ‘The Real World’ when I was younger and thought that it could be me! But I’ve also personally thought, I was way more entertaining than some of those cast members. Ajianna: Uh duh! But seriously, I am a star. Reality TV is something I’ve always wanted to do. Lights, camera, action! I want my foot in the door so I can wear the many crowns I was made to rock, on any platform.

July 2016

really working, that house will never get built. That one person is going to be tired as hell! But if everybody works together, that house is going to be built to tip top shape! We all getting paid and will have energy at the end of the day. Kolaa: We can all learn from one another, so I’m open to that concept. However, we all have a role and for some, they are good at getting drinks…

their phones. If you could replace one of your cast members with a current reality superstar, who would you replace and with whom? Nicole: I would pick the cast member I am least fond of to replace, Ajianna. I’d replace her with someone like Yandy (Love & Hip Hop New York) or Kandi (Real Housewives of Atlanta). Miss Mikey: I would replace Tiffany. I would replace her with K.Michelle. Nothing personal, Kolaa & I just need someone else to be main stars with! Again, Kolaa and Miss Mikey breakout into a laughter then proceeded to dance while chanting “Watermelon and chicken” until Marcus stood up, Marcus: I’ll replace all y’all asses with Deelishis from Flavor of Love! Where do you see “The Come Up” going? Everyone looked to the person next to them and then looked at me and said in unison, TO THE TOP! It was truly nice to see that they are all on the same page but still knowing only ONE CAN BE ON THE COVER! We all know reality TV can sometimes be scripted, is this the case with “The Come Up”? iffany: With what we’ve taped so far, EVERYTHING IS REAL! Monique: I didn’t sign up for fake TV, which is why I didn’t go after anything else that is out there. I understand that of course the show needs to be interesting so we’ll need to have things setup in a certain way for appeal, but I think we got enough personalities up to bat where we won’t need to read off of a script.

As an entrepreneur, you are indeed your own boss. With “The Come Up”, I understand that bosses now have to become coworkers. How has that adjustment worked with the cast? Kolaa: I haven’t worked with anyone on any projects yet, so as far as I’m concerned, it doesn’t apply to me. Ajianna: It’s not all glitz and glam. We argue, we fight, and we don’t like each Miss Mikey and Kolaa then let out an other but when it’s all said and done, uproar of laughter as some of the cast nobody is going to ride for us like we members rolled their eyes and check will.

Page 33

Tiffany: I think this has been the hardest for me because I hate authority figures unless it’s me, I am a very blunt and precise person with a strong clap back game, but I am a work in progress. Miss Mikey: The adjustment is new for some people. But clearly, many of us are more than seasoned than others, and know when to fall into designated roles. So, when it’s time for a team task, people are so used to giving orders or having delusional thoughts that they’re the real bosses, they don’t know how to take them! Now this question is for Marcus, Being one of two male cast members, how do you feel about working so closely with so many women? On top of that, how do you feel working with an openly gay man? Do you in a sense feel “alone”? Marcus: Honestly, I never thought about it until this question. Never had a problem working with women. If you’re not comfortable in your own skin, then you wouldn’t be comfortable anywhere. Not only

am I involved in fitness, I am a musician as well, so I’ve worked with people of many different cultures and creeds. It doesn’t bother me. As long as respect is given, respect is received. We’re all human, eventually there’s something we can relate to. In this case, we all want to be successful, and we’re all on The Come Up. As the interview came to a close the group got in their cliques and went to their separate ways. The Come Up is filming throughout 2016 and plans to drop the show in 2017. This will be pitched to several mainstream and national companies (MTV, VH1, BET, MTV2, BRAVO etc.) in hopes of being picked up. We here at Ford Entertainment Magazine are so happy to have the first media outlet interview with the cast as whole. Who knows when we’ll see them together again, but we sure do hope to see them AT THE TOP!

GLC’S BLING FASHION

Starting from a high school job, as a sophomore working at a clothing store called “Wet Seal” in the Coastland Mall, Geraldine remembers accessorising the shoppers, putting them together in a way that left everyone with a smile on their face. Since then, she has fallen in love with fashion and accessories. So much so that in January 2015, she decided to go into business for herself, pursuing a craft she loves. What’s unique about her merchandise is that she offers great quality at an affortable price. What finally convinced her to go for her dreams? “One day I said to myself that I have a dream that I have to chase, and if I didn’t chase my dream, it wouldn’t chase me. That’s when I realized that it was finally the time to get started. “ Ladychelle sat down with the fashion expert for a brief interview, to find out a little bit more about her as an entrepreneur. Why entrepeneurship versus working for a company? Working for a company is not the same, due to the fact that you don’t get to pick the merchandise. The Side of Hitting Rock Bottom No One Likes To Talk About

This is it. Rock bottom. The feelings inside right now are telling you that you’ve hit it. The emptiness, the loneliness, the aching- that’s all part of it. And you look in the mirror and wonder who the fuck is staring back at you. Because at one point you knew that person, but you don’t anymore. Everything you said you would never do or be is everything you have done and become. You have become everything you once hated. And you can see it. In every mistake. In every breath. In every moment. You have slowly crept to a place where you don’t even recognize yourself anymore. And you’re embarrassed. Embarrassed that you have let it get to this point. That you’ve let yourself get to the rock bottom your friends warned you about for months. The miniscule part of love you once felt for things is gone. You’re just not sure who this person is. To everyone else, you have everything. You’re smart, fun, successful and have done things many people dream of. But you’re not happy. Not happy because when you look in the mirror, you know the

July 2016

lies. The darkness and the twistedness that lies beneath. You see the pain, the hurt, the anger that you don’t show anyone else because that would be weak. And you’re definitely good at pretending you’re not weak. Even though you know you are. You don’t have control anymore. Control of your emotions, your body, your mind. Every good feeling you once had is gone. And now what’s left is the empty. The scary empty that you’ve heard about. You’re anxious. You’re cryptic. You’re good at putting up a face. Pretending to be happy and actually being happy are two different things. And there’s no reason to not be happy. You’re relatively healthy. You have things. But it always comes back to the lonely. The unfulfilling feeling of the mundane. The struggle to remember what is real and what’s not. What you’ve been filling your head with isfantasy, and what is actually happening is the real world. You’ve lit your path on fire and slowly, you’re watching everything burn around it. This wasn’t the way it was supposed to be. Rock bottom was never supposed to come. Living a comfortable lie was always supposed to just work for you. And it did. Everything works for a while. And it’s easy to keep going with what you know rather than confronting things that you’ve pushed down. When you try to tell people, they shrug it off. They tell you your strengths. They tell you you’re good. They tell you everything they think you need to hear, instead of actually listening to what you’re saying. It’s scary to say things out loud. To admit that you’ve hit rock bottom, and aren’t very sure where to start to dig yourself out. Digging yourself out is going to

be hard, and time consuming. The negativity at the back of your mind reminds you how worthless you are and how right now, good fucking luck seeing good in anything. But slowly, you will. You’ll start to see things with color again instead of black and white. There is beauty in rock bottom, as contradictory as it sounds. The thing that sucks is that the emotions you’re feeling right now-the helplessness, the embarrassment, the pain- they aren’tjust something you can bottle up and spray on yourself to remind you how bad this feels. Life is a cycle. There’s bad, good and ugly. The good news is that you’ve gotten through it all. You’ve gotten through your worse days. But there are times when you don’t know how you’re going to get through those feelings that hold you back from fixing the broken. All I can tell you is this, you can fix you, but sometimes sitting at rock bottom will show you things you need to learn in order to work through the pain. Rock bottom can crush you if you let it. But please don’t let it.

Life/Relationships

RealOne

Real One -He Says / She Says “Men are from Mars, women are fromVenus”, this best seller written by John Gray, PHD has sold over 50 million copies. The book suggests men are women give and recieve love differently and suggests ways to improve communication in a relationship. Happiness in not a foreign concept, the key is to identify and understand what the other person wants and expects out of the union. For this edition of Real One, Ladychelle has a special guest, Tru Wiz, to answer the old age question: What do men and women want out of relationships?

She Says 1- Pray with me and Pray for me In a relationship, I need our spiritual goals to match. I need prayer to be our go-to for everything. We can’t get along? Let’s pray. Bills are due and there’s no money? Let’s pray. Can’t stand me right now, or I did something that pissed you off to the core? Don’t run to your boys and tell them, you better face East, talk to the one who made me, and ask Him for advice on His creation.

2- Match my efforts When I love, I love hard. So, in a relationship, I’m going to go hard. It will be my mission to keep you happy. I will make sure that I put in full effort to keep us connected. I will make sure to put in quality time. Your enemies will be mine. Your burdens will be shared. I will be your rib. All I need is for your focus to match my focus, and for you to go just as hard to make sure the relationship is as great as it can be, and not just coast on autopilot.

Page 38

5- Protect my heart No, my man is not always going to know how to prevent my feelings from being hurt. Especially with me being a Gemini. To be real, I don’t even know sometimes that a particular incident or action might hurt or upset me. But, knowing your woman is knowing what buttons not to push unless you want to see that angry, petty, shady side of me. If I’ve specifically laid out the list of things that I don’t like, want, or particularly care for, and you, as my man, specifically do what I have just spoken against, I’m going to assume that you couldn’t care less about my feelings. This will cause a major rift in our relationship. I think as women,

we get it from God. Being built us in His image and all. He gave Adam and Eve everything they could ever want, or need. In return, He asked them one thing: not to touch the Tree of Knowledge. What did Adam and Eve do? They plucked the fruit and ate it. That didn’t please God. In fact, he kicked them out of His garden and took away the sweet, easy, happy-go-lucky life He once had in store for them. Same scenario. As my man, you are in my Garden of Eden. In my garden, I promise you love and joy, to submit to you as my man, and to cater to you as my king. But, I will also have my own Tree of Knowledge (so to speak), that I will ask you to abstain from. You get the gist of my analogy...eat the fruits, piss me off. It’s simple really.

6- Uplift my spirit This world has a million and one ways to damper a person’s spirit. As my man, don’t be a part of the problem- be a part of my solutions. Be the person I can run to when my world is crashing, when my skies are grey, when it’s me against the world. Be there for me, armed with unconditional love, understanding, and encouraging words. I battle depression and anxiety, and let me tell you how wonderful it is to have someone at your side you can run to who you know will be there to uplift you, to wrap you in his arms and say, “Baby, let me guide you out of this funk.” No Prozac needed, my king is my medicine, and it’s a wonderful feeling.

Call me a runaway bride/girlfriend/friend, I don’t care. I don’t care. I don’t care. Because I’m a runner, it’s what I do. If it doesn’t make me happy, I run. This may not be the healthiest way to be, I’ll admit. But I truly believe that I deserve, and can get, everything it is that I want out of a relationship- and I refuse to settle for anything that doesn’t meet my standards, or even attempt to. I’m not perfect, but I chase perfection. I want my love cup to runneth over. I chase joy, peace, and love relentlessly, and by golly I will not cease until I get it.

he Says

1. Don't stress me:

Where did you go? Who are you with? When are you coming back? Why didn’t you answer your phone? This is a relationship, not a job, you’re my woman not my boss, which means: I don’t report to you. I didn’t fill out an application to start my position in this relationship, so I don’t clock in or clock out with you. I’m not a child you carried for nine months and gave birth to. I am a grown man, and YOU WILL treat me as such. Understand that every move that I make is for the betterment of us. I’m sorry that the last man didn’t know how to treat you, and because of that you lost respect for men. I’m not him. One thing I hate is to be questioned. I have no problem telling you almost everything, but don’t make me feel like I’m under investigation.

2. Put some respeck on my name: I'm not your nigga or your homeboy, so watch the way you talk to me. Put some respect on the words that you use and are directed at me, even your tone of voice. I am a child of God, a king as a matter of fact. Even though society doesn't recognize me as one, you’re suppose to. Your words, and the way you speak my name, should be respectful, even if you’re upset with me. God instructed the woman to submit to her man as unto the Lord in Eph 5:22. What that means is: your man should feel like a god, because of how you treat him. Then he will love you as it is instructed for him to do in verse 25 of that same chapter. So put some respeck on my name!

3. Comfort me: If you see I'm pissed off or bothered by something, comfort me. How dare you get mad because I'm upset? How could you just walk pass me as if nothing's wrong? If you can clearly see I'm hot, why add fuel to the fire? What kind of sense does that make? Humble yourself and come see about me. Sometimes, all I need is your touch without a word, or even a word without a touch. It's your responsibility to know me and to understand me. To know when you see me on fire, how to apply water without drowning me.
