DJ MONTANA “...at the end of the day, DJs still have a powerful influence when it comes to breaking records.”
Dj Montana! Now tell me about your name? Does it rep your location? “Montana” doesn’t but I also go by “DJ Montana 864” and the “864” represents where I’m from. Born and raised in Greenville, SC, big shoutout to the city and the Carolinas as a whole. We making a lot of noise right now. I actually got my name from a drake verse though. Around the time I started DJing, Drake had a verse and he was like “B**** I’m Tony in my city”. I said the line so much, I just went with “Montana” as my DJ name after Tony Montana. What format DJ are you? I do it all. I’m a Tour DJ and Radio DJ first, but I host mixtapes and I’m still in the clubs when I’m not on the road and available. I’m booked heavy with weddings too, so yeah, I do a little bit of everything. You have to be able to reach everybody in every lane. But a Tour DJ and Radio DJ, those come first. How did you get into that line of work? And for how long? I’ve been a DJ for 7 years, I started out in college. I used to go back home, and we would throw house parties every month. I was the only one that knew the new music like that so I pretty much played DJ for the parties. After a few parties, I started taking it serious and I was good right from the jump and was able to pick up on a lot quick. What is the role the dj plays in music distribution nowadays with the world being so digital? It’s crazy because I was just having this conversation my with partner. The DJ will always be a major key when it comes to an artist’s music career, but artist also have another option to distribute their music nowadays. An option that reaches way more people than a lot of DJ will ever reach. I don’t think our role has change though, not when it comes to music distribution. Because we’re still in the clubs and on the radio stations playing and spreading the music, just to name two. We’re still distributing music the same way we always have, and reaching people that don’t listen to music digitally. Everybody doesn’t have Apple Music or Spotify.
What are some of your highlights as a DJ? My most recent highlight, I was featured on the cover of a my first magazine. We did the whole photoshoot and interview for it for it, so that was dope. I also just hit the road with NewMoney Quez. We just released his new mixtape “I Want New Money Forever”, so we’re on the road promoting that. We’re in heading back to Atlanta from New Orleans right now actually. We had a show yesterday on a Essence Festival stage. But over years, I’ve won On-air Personality/DJ of The Year and a Keys To The City award for Name a couple of ways an artist can support a dj? Just be genuine and show love. If you’re free, pull up on them and just say what’s up. Everybody is big on social media now, so share, like, and comment on some post. But the biggest thing, just pull up when it’s not busy and show love. Back in the days, the DJs were the gatekeepers to music, dictating what’s hot and being the go to people for music. Do you think that’s still the same nowadays? Yeah, but to a certain extent. People definitely still turn to DJs for the next hit but on the flip side, streaming services changed the game a lot. I feel like people can easily download one of those “new music” playlist to find what’s hot now. Do you feel as tho the DJ gets the respect they deserve in this game? I think we do. Everyone knows that at the end of the day, DJs still have a powerful influence when it comes to breaking records. IS VAPING MARIJUANA A MISDEMEANOR IN FLORIDA? If you are found in the possession of a marijuana vaporizer, it will likely result in 2 misdemeanor charges. The first will be a charge for drug possession, and the second will be for possession of drug paraphernalia, for the vape device itself. The following two conditions must be met in order for this to be considered a misdemeanor: -The marijuana must be in its natural form of weed - The total weight must be under 20 grams
IS VAPING MARIJUANA A FELONY IN FLORIDA? In the state of Florida, the possession of a vape device with any form of THC, other than traditional marijuana, could result in two felony charges. Again, this may include one count for drug possession, and one count for possession of drug paraphernalia for the vape device itself. This includes any oils, concentrates, waxes, or any other variations typically found in vape pens or cartridges.
HOW WILL A FELONY CONVICTION AFFECT ME? A felony conviction can seriously impact your life, as many employers disqualify potential candidates with felony convictions. Furthermore, a felony conviction can have adverse effects on your right to vote or bear firearms. Each conviction scores higher on your felony scoresheet, which results in enhanced penalties for future crimes. Nevertheless, the most serious reason to avoid a felony is prison. The maximum incarceration period for a misdemeanor marijuana possession charge is 1 year, and possession of paraphernalia is a separate crime and carries the same. Felony convictions are punishable by serving time in a state prison. ARRESTED? CONTACT OUR FORT MYERS CRIMINAL DEFENSE LAWYERS TODAY!
