Letter from the editor, Teamwork Makes the Dream Work and I couldn’t accomplish anything without my CORE team. The ones I’m in the trenches with all day everyday. Exchanging ideas, thoughts, dreams, visions with. It took me years to realize how much of a big part of the formula to success this is. You can have the greatest recipe in the world, but without that secret ingredient, you don’t have KFC you have regular fried chicken! The core team, you got Ms Rose, the mama, the manager, the PR agent that’s gonna tell you “that’s not a good move, that’s not a good look”, the wise voice, the mover, the shaker, the ‘I’ma go get it” and brings it back without breaking a sweat, the stylist that got me looking like Beyonce everytime I come thru. Then we got Desmen, aka Tru Wiz, the boss, the “let’s go” with no hesitation, the visionary, the driven one, the passionate one, the “we’re gonna make this happen, aint no other choice” one, the spiritual one. Then we got me, in the middle, looking at these two amazed at how blessed I am to be part of such an incredible trio. I love yall to life. #TheTeam #TWMTW Pinky and the Brain Flow, let’s take over the world. -Rachelle Ford aka LadyChelle

Lil Haiti might just change your life by Rachelle Ford
I LOVE open mics. Alot of people shy away from open mics and alot of people in the industry shame open mics, mainly because they’re busy chasing the “big guys”; not because the “big guys” are necessarily more talented, but mainly because the “big guys” are more likely to cut them a check or put them in a better position, promo wise and introduce them to some new fans. Not me, I love music. Everything I do is for the music, and I don’t really care where the music is coming from as long as it’s good. Not just “my mama likes it and says its good” but “who is this guy!” good. And most often then not, the real music, the true talent, the drive, the grind is embedded inside of a body belonging to a human being who works 9-5 to care for his family, hates his job and the bs they have to put up with, always take a couple minutes past their lunch to clock back in, and sits at home at night contemplating risking it all and chase the music only to wake up the next day and doing it all over again. You don’t get to hear about those guys, they’re most likely not playing through your radio speakers and they most likely handed you a cd or sent you a soundcloud link a while back but you never took the time to listen to it because there was no big name attached to it. Please do me a favor, stop allowing the music to be spoon fed to you from a label making airplane noises telling you how great brocoli is for your growth. Some of the musical geniuses are right there under our noses, right
in our inbox, our twitter notifications, on that cd that was handed to you one night at the club by one of the opening acts, and most importantly that musical, talented, creative, gifted genius might happen to step on an open mic stage, wearing a plaid blue button up, with a name that reminds you of a caribbean island, with his dreads up in a bun. And you might be sitting in that audience, drinking your patron and cranberry and wondering how many more acts gotta go onstage and be blown away by a smooth singing R&B king, from a small town called Immokalee, who hasn’t been doing music for long but is ready to take his sounds to the next level. A talented soul who is ready to whoo a crowd accapela with a beautiful, freaky melody. Let the “Lil Haiti’s” in the music world change your life and how you discover new music. Let’s go back to thinking of music as art and show appreciation for the independent artists baring their souls onstage and online and chasing a
dream, chasing a purpose. A dream that you can literally help make reality by simply liking a post, sharing something you like, attending an openmic, or even taking an honest listen to their music or viewing one of their videos. And if you like what you hear, go one step further and actually support that talent by buying a song on itunes for .99cents or an album for $9.99 or even attending a show next time you see their name on the flyer. We’re all chasing a dream, support others how you would want them to support you. You can check the complete interview with Lil Haiti on www.Fordentmag.info, check him out at the next SWFL Open Mic night as he will be headlining and also look for him on all social media platforms. This man is truly talented, and you will not regret pressing play on any of his projects.

Heartbreak Hotel
These three tracks will not only make you look at yourself and Whether you're dumping or get- your contributions to the breakting dumped, a breakup is nev- up, but they will also help you cry er easy! Trust me, I've had my your damn eyes out. Now, don't heartbroken but also broke a few put any of these songs on repeat hearts all in the name of love. But because babyyyyyyy then we'll how do you get through a break- have to give you a whole differup? Girl talks? Try to jump into ent playlist that may include the another one? Al- Anthony Hamilton 'Where Did though some of those things may We Go Wrong' is kinda self-exwork, especially the 10 cats(I'm planatory. sure we all know a crazy cat lady That's one of the first questions around the way!), one thing that we ask ourselves once we get I'm sure every human being can the news that the relationship agree to getting through a fresh has ran its course. Of course, we breakup is MUSIC! Especially look at it as if our relationship the right playlist. Well, here's a is perfect so you find yourself, few songs that will mess up your "Well what happened?" "Where eyeliner, question your freedom, did we go wrong." "Was it somemake you look back at it in the thing I did?" This song by the mirror for reassurance that 'you handsome Mr.Hamilton asks all still got it' but ultimately get you those questions with hope and through the first stages of your desire that the relationship will breakup. find that spark that was put out but already knowing, there's no saving it. Now, track 2 from Tank 'Maybe I Deserve' is going Okay so track 1-3, thats the sad to do nothing but put salt and stage. Pillows soaked in tears, lemon juice in the fresh wound. beating yourself up, and maybe I know you're probably thinking, even contemplating giving up on "Bitch how is this going to HELP love all together. Get it all out! get through the breakup!" ReLose your voice while singing member, this is the sad stage. along to these songs. You get to best yourself up for a little bit because lets keep it all 1)Where Did We Go Wrongthe way real, in some cases, the Anthony Hamilton breakup was brought on by both 2)Maybe I Deserve-Tank parties. Nobody is perfect. Also, 3)Ex-Factor-Lauryn Hill everyone's breakup is different. This track will have you think-

ing, "Well, maybe I did deserve to be dumped." "Maybe I wasn't doing this/that right." Those thoughts are normal to have, everyone who been dumped/ broken up with someone has had those thoughts! As I said before, DON'T put these three songs on repeat! Ha, now track 3 is from my personal favorite, Lauryn Hill- Ex-Factor. This song just does something to me! In this song, she expresses her love for her unconditional love for her partner and shares that her love with always be with him but she can't be with him because the relationship is toxic. In some cases, the best way to love someone is from a distance, Ms.Hill has the perfect melodic voice and immaculate flow to describe how to do just that in this song.
The bitter Stage Now, the bitter/fuck love/I'm bad all by myself stage. This stage unfortunately, creates crazy cat ladies/creepy trailer park collectables guy because some people get stuck in this stage for the rest of their lives after a breakup. They completely give up on love! Love didn't hurt you, someone who didn't know how to love you did. These next 5 tracks will have you really feeling yourself but also have you a little pressed about your ex lover. One of these tracks will even make you think vandalism is the new black!
4) Bust Your WindowsJazmine Sullivan 5)Can’t Raise a Man- K.Michelle 6)Y.A.S(You Ain Shit)-Trey Songz 7) I Shoulda CheatedKeyshia Cole "Fuck you!" "You ain shit!" "I don't need no man/bitch!" "I can take care of my damn self!" How many of us have said this after too many glasses of Barefoot Moscato? How many of us have heard one of these songs and called their exes phone only to be petty then get mad when they get mad at our pettiness? How many of us really did bust out some windows? I know I'm guilty as charged just as I know, I damn sure ain't alone, HMPH! Now, right into track 4 we instantly think of how to 'get back' at our ex because they indeed, broke our hearts. This is for the people who've been dumped by an 'ain't shit' individual or those who caught your partner cheating. Now, we all know running someone's property isn't the best thing to do especially when we're looking for revenge. But sometimes we don't think straight! 'Bust Your Windows' by Jazmine Sullivan, need me say more. See, she used a brick and a crowbar. I used a E&J bottle for a house window. Bernadine didn't think small like we did, she burned down the whole car. Now, the late Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes(formally with TLC before her tragic death) burnt down a whole damn house... Yea, it gets crazy! Track 5 is by none other that firey 'jump a gate, slap a bitch' from Memphis, Tennessee, K.Michelle. If can't
nobody else write and entire album about a man that broke her heart, she has written 2! K.Michelle 'Can't Raise a Man' is the single women's anthem, especially in this stage of the break up. Who hasn't hit the schmoney dance while reciting these lyrics? In this track K is letting us all know, we are the girlfriend/wife, not nobodies mama. She let's us know, his mama is the reason he ain't shit! Not saying all men are like this, just be careful of the one's that are! Track 6, ladies.... Trey Songz will make you reconsider what exactly you can put up with! Y.A.S(You Ain Shit) is a song where Songz is basically mimicking a female rant. Calling out all his fuck ups but in return, letting you know that you ain going nowhere. He cockiness & reassurance will have you belting and blowing notes you never knew you could hold! Replying back to the radio or your phone, "Oh you think I ain goin nowhere?" It's quite a sight to see and a very hard explanation to give when
someone asks you, "Who you talking to?" Track 7, I Shoulda Cheated- Keyshia Cole. Self explanatory. Who hasn't had this thought, especially if you were cheated on, stayed, and got cheated on again. This track right here will make you reconsider taking his homeboy/her homegirl up on their offer they made when you partner at the time wasn't looking! Track 8, Take a Bow by Rihanna. Honey, this song will make you think it was all a lie, ALL OF IT! You'll hear this song and question everything about the relationship. Like, "Did he/she really mean it when they said, 'God bless you.'?" "Did they really introduce me to their real mama or was that their favorite aunty?" "Did I really look good in that ugly ass dress/shirt?" You will really be giving an applause as you remember the relationship thinking it was all an act till the director called cut. But, if you remember from track 3, Ex-Factor by Lauryn Hill, the best way to love someone sometimes is from
a distance. If you remember that, 10) Ain Gon Beg You- Fantasia then you will not be stuck in this 11) Bad Habit- Destiny’s Child stage until you are 45, single, and have 10 cats. This stage is good to see but not a good place to sit. You may have given your breakChild, this in my opinion is the up a second thought and believe worst stage. in second chances in the past and may even think about giving another one. Bitch, you know damn well that shit is over and done with. But we all have done not only some crazy things for love, BUT STUPID THINGS for love. It's okay boo, we all been there. We all wanted them to change. If you're a bitch like me though, you know the only man that made a change, that seems like a good man, is Barack Obama. We said, "Yes we can." He turned around and made us say, "YES WE DID!" Whew... HEY ZADDY! Ha, okay back to this playlist.
hope things can be worked out. Track 10 is nothing but a reminder that beating the hell out of a dead horse helps nobody! Ain Gon Beg You by Fantasia helps you remember exactly why you left. After all those chances you gave already, you still want to give another one. Once you hear Fantasia reminds you, if you play with fire you get burned. This American Idol also let's you know to put your foot down with a pat on the back that insists, last time was in deed the last time. Track 11 is sung by Kelly Rowland of Destiny's Child titled Bad Habit.
Maybe Fantasia didn't help. Kelly is that homegirl that we all know has that's been through it. So, she's there to let you know, GIVE IT UP GIRL! Bad Habit helps you recognize signs from the most high, GIVE IT UP GIRL! It also gives you that reassurance that there's better out there. Yes, this feels good but it's not good for you. Yes, that D is bomb but baby that ain't love, that's lust!
The Free At Last Stage Now that you're all cried out and in a good head place, you should feel liberated. Yes, you mis what WAS but are ready to see what IS. You gotten you mojo back and remember, you got this. This stage is the FREE AT LAST stage. You're finally smiling again. 12) Not Gon Cry- Mary J. Blige 13) Deuces - Chris Brown 14) Irreplaceable - Beyonce 15) Goodbye - Jagged Edge 16) Best Thing I Never Had - Beyonce
Right after you drop that bad habit, dry your eyes for the last time. Smile, shoulders back, chest out. Mary J. Blige, the queen of hip hop soul, gives you that final push you need to get out of your feelings. Not Gon Cry is a classic with such a relevant message at this final stage of the breakup. She's saying, you did more then your best. Your feelings are valid about being angry but don't live in that anger. No more tears! I'm sure you've been using your middle finger to show your emotions & your index finger to read the life out of your ex since the beginning of the break up. But instead of using them separately, put them together! For the same reason, TO CHUCK THE DEUCES! Track 13 allows you to say one last F-U to your ex then allow your index finger to follow for one last goodbye while walking away. Deuces by Chris Brown ft. Kevin McCall & Tyga is a catchy, upbeat breakup song that will allow you to walk away from your relationship wit a smile on your face & no cold spot in your heart. Chris Brown blesses the beat with his vocals while McCall & Tyga deliver the bars. You get that believable, "I'm good for real this time y'all." vibe from this tune. "Sometimes the best thing for you to do, is the hardest thing for you to do." Track 15 opens up with that message as the 90s R&B group Jagged Edge serenades you with a melodic tune & easy going vibe. 'Goodbye' is just like tracks 3, 8, and 11. The relationship felt good, but it was toxic. The love will always be there, but distance is what will allow the love to be alive. This track allows you to feel that you know you tried your best
and the right decision was made for the individuals in the relationship. Finally, track 16. Is when you find the love you've been looking for within yourself. The love you know is out there and it must find you, no need to go looking for it. 'Best Thing I Never Had' by MOTHER Beyonce is that petty, stick your tongue out, told you so song. A perfect way to win is to get fine and be successful but to also be genuinely happy. Especially if the breakup was messy. Beyonce really lets you feel yourself with this song and it is definitely a picker upper. A small reminder that you are nothing less than THAT BITCH! He missed out of a good catch! As I said before, breakups suck. But music is something that can bring the universe together. Music, laughter, and love can get you through anything. Make sure you grab some tissues, some ice cream, and tell your girls to be ready! Ha! Don't be down for too long but absolutely take time to get yourself together. Once you get it all out, get your mojo back, and love yourself this playlist will be a thing of the past. But don't throw the cd away, just incase you need it again. I am truly glad I got to share some of my playlist with you. I hope this helped you in someway whether you're dumping someone, planning on dumping someone, or just got dumped! Safe sex & paychecks! -Miss Mikey.

Another Sad Hashtag Couple Killed by Cops While Aslleep in a car
#KishaMichael and #MarquintanSandlin
Both the man and woman who were mortally wounded during an officer involved shooting were unconscious when Inglewood police first responded to where they were sitting in a car, said Inglewood Mayor James Butts Tuesday in response to questions about the incident. For at least 45 minutes, police attempted “to rouse” them in an effort “to de-escalate the situation,” said Butts. It is the first public explanation for what transpired early that morning during the time between the initial call and the shooting. Police previously stated responding officers saw the woman had a gun, retreated to behind cover, and then gave orders for the couple to exit the vehicle. “Obviously at some point they were conscious because somebody felt threatened,” said Butts, a retired law enforcement officer who previously served as police chief in other cities. He said it is important for police to finish their investigation, and verify facts, before commenting further. During his comments, Mayor Butts made a point of extending his condolences to the families of those who died. “It’s more tragic because they had children,” Butts said. The deceased have been identified by family members as Kisha Michael, 31, a single mother of three sons, and
Marquintan Sandlin, 32, a single father of four daughters. Michael’s twin sister Trisha has said it is possible that returning home after a night out, Kisha may have passed out in the car. Police made no comment on what specific threat officers perceived. The families have demanded explanations and expressed frustration. “The police ain’t telling us nothing,” said Trisha Michael. Families for both described them as devoted parents who made arrangements for care of their children while they took a night off. Relatives said he had a “rough life,” but had made great strides and was working again as a truck driver. “He was a loving father,” said Sandlin’s sister Leandra Faulkner. “All he cared about was his girls, getting them right.” They had moved to the high desert city of Victorville, but returned to Los Angeles to visit family and friends, according to cousin Latoya Simmons. “He moved out of LA to get away from all this nonsense,” Simmons said. In a police radio transmission moments after the shooting, an officer can be heard saying the woman had a gun in her right hand. Why either would have had a gun, family members said they did not know. But they believe law enforcement should have
been able to handle the situation without resorting to deadly force. “They have crisis counselors, tear gas, bean bags,” said community activist pastor Eddie Jones. “All kinds of things besides deadly force.” It was evident from shell casings at the scene that military grade rifles had been fired. “I know weapons, I know that sound,” said Alfonso Parker, Jrwho described himself as a Vietnam War veteran, and said he could hear the shots from his home. “You don’t use that crap on your own people.”

Sex and Spirituality Understandig the exchange of energy Discover the sacred unity of body and soul when it comes to sex. It disturbs me to meet so many people for whom sex and spirituality are completely unrelated or exist as opposites. For those who were brought up in a world where religious influence was nonexistent or plain ineffective, it may be a novel idea to consider that sex can be spiritual. Others, like me, grew up in a war between spirituality and sensuality. In my loving Catholic family, the word “sex” could stop conversations and make everyone freeze in embarrassment. I spent my teen years as a monk and seminarian. I didn’t have sex until I was in my late twenties. Yet, despite all of this neurotic baggage, I came to enjoy sex as much as I am captivated by spirituality. I came away from my studies in religion with the knowledge that it is possible to be intensely spiritual and intensely sexual at the same time. There is no contradiction. More than that, I came to believe that if a person’s sexuality is not fully accepted, his spirituality will suffer. And vice versa: if his spirituality is not strong, his sexuality will be weak. From all these sources, I developed what I will call the ten erot-
ic commandments. Notice that they are not about physical love as an isolated phenomenon. I think of a human being as always, in every instance, made up of body, soul, and spirit. There is no such thing as purely physical love, because we are more than physical. So, be prepared for a broader notion of what sex is all about. There are practical steps to go with these “commandments.” Realize the importance, men and women, of taking care of your bodies: being clean, smelling nice, dressing well. Pay attention, as well, to what you say, talking with some intelligence and thoughtfulness. Choose the setting and props carefully: good oils, fragrances, linens. Spiritual rituals are always carried out with attention to detail and with beauty. Have an image nearby that captures the union of sex and spirit: a photograph of one of the couples on the Indian temples of Khajuraho or Konorak, for instance, or a picture of blue Krishna with his gopis and his girlfriend Radha. The first step in the spiritual life is to move beyond narcissism and self-absorption. This is not a glamorous suggestion, but it is essential: Treat your partner
honestly, respectfully, and kindly. It’s as simple as that. Spirituality begins in achieving a basic but difficult aspect of maturity — not being selfish. This doesn’t mean that you don’t take care of yourself and have full satisfaction in your sexual life, but, as the spiritual traditions consistently teach, you can’t be happy if those around you are not happy. Sex is a union of persons, not only bodies. You can prepare for sex by being an interesting person, bringing with you your intelligence, culture, ideas, values, and talents. It’s one thing to make love with a pretty body and another to be intimate with a real person. You can take time to talk to your partner, maybe at dinner before lovemaking. Don’t be afraid to talk about the things that matter. Letting a closely guarded thought emerge can lead to a physical sense of release. If you can’t do this with your dinner partner, then your sex may not be anything special. A spiritual person has a broad vision. He or she is interested in life, meaning, and the world. Vision is an aspect of transcendence and a reach beyond self. Sex usually begins and ends in conversation. Visionary talk, in contrast
to mundane and self-centered chatter, can be vital and erotic. Spirituality benefits from some kind of contemplation or meditation, a stepping outside the ordinary reality. Lovemaking can have a contemplative quality taking time, allowing yourself to be dreamy, giving in not only to passion but also to the timeless atmosphere of sex. Ecstasy, a word often applied to sexual experience, means “to stand outside,” and it doesn’t have to have the swoon factor that people sometimes associate with it. Ecstasy can be a steady, calm progress to a state that is tranquil and otherworldly. Sex is as much a ritual as anything done in church or temple. A ritual is an action that speaks primarily to the heart and soul. It doesn’t have much practical meaning. Some people like to justify sex by seeing it as a way to make babies or to express love. Obviously it can do these things, but it can also be a ritual that evokes the spirituality of the relationship, long or short, casual or serious. Therefore, the spiritual quality of sex may increase if you pay attention to its ritual aspect: timing, clothing, music, candles, setting, language. Sex can be virtuous without being repressive or too clean. The great virtue in sex is generosity, the capacity to offer an abundance of feeling, intelligence, and equality to your partner. This doesn’t mean surrendering completely or giving away too much, but rather a thoughtful and moderate offering of self. Again, this is a traditional spiritual virtue applied to the special realm of sex. Sex has a lot to do with appreciating the beauty of the human body and the person. You don’t have to be a stunner or even pretty or handsome. Fortunately, sexual passion allows us to see the beauty of the body in small el-
ements and gestures. Loving the person also helps, because the beauty of the personality usually gets transferred to the body. Prayer takes many forms. Even the monks have said that to work is to pray. You don’t have to say formal prayers before sex, but you can bring to it such an appreciation for its power to express love and to make unions that it becomes a prayer. For sex to be deeply exciting and engaging, somehow you have to evoke this goddess, the spirit of sex, who makes things happen. The ancient Greeks and Romans had a keen awareness of the spirituality in sex, which they personified in the goddesses Aphrodite and Venus. An old story is told of pilgrims going by boat to an island where they could venerate a statue of the naked and seductive Aphrodite. As a muse is to an artist — a real and important source of inspiration — so this spirit is to a couple making love. Spirituality involves reaching beyond the self. Sex is quite private, but a good sex life can help make a good community. One of the results of good sex is joy, pure and simple, an antidote to the often depressive, cynical tone of modern life, with its tendency to dehumanize and make excessive demands. When people have a joyful, positive outlook, they are capable of community. Thomas Moore is the author of Care of the Soul, Soulmates, and other bestselling books.
