ABOUT US

Fair Oaks residents have a long history of dedication to parks and recreation In 1945, the District was formed to provide recreation and park facilities, and programs, for the 2,300 citizens of the District The District soon began to acquire and gain title to a number of park properties and recreation facilities, beginning with the Fair Oaks Plaza in 1947.

Currently, FORPD serves an estimated 35,000 residents in an 11-square-mile area Its 11 parks and recreation services operate exclusively within the Fair Oaks community

A wide range of recreation programming, including Special Events, Summer & Specialty Youth Camps, Adult & Youth Sports Leagues, Senior Activities, Youth Programs, and Leisure Enrichment Classes, are operated year-round.

FORPD HIGHLIGHTS

January 13, 2022: Grand opening and ribbon cutting for the 4 acre Gum Ranch Park was held Celebration included live music, story walk, children’s activities, pies & hot cider, ribbon cutting and ceremony.

February 12, 2022: Father/Daughter & Family Dance made its triumphant return since the pandemic Event was held at the Orangevale/Fair Oaks Grange.

March 3, 2022: Food Truck Mania & Classic Car show kicked off at Fair Oaks Park. Event ran the first Thursday of each month through November 2022.

April 30, 2022: The Kid’s Art Festival, in partnership with San Juan Unified School District, was held at Fair Oaks Park due to construction in the Village and the 2022 event was the first year the event was held since the pandemic . An estimated 2,500 attended the event and participated in make-and-take art activities, live music, dance performances, art exhibits, and more.

February 2022: The District's Administration office received an interior renovation, including a new heating and cooling system, front desk, carpet, flooring, paint, window covering, and conference meeting space.

The District awarded $4,000 from the Rachel Anne Gray Memorial Scholarship to six deserving Fair Oaks high school seniors

February 3, 2022: Fair Oaks Recreation & Park District was honored to accept “Best Event of the Year” – 16th annual Fair Oaks Chicken Festival, “Best Community Center” – Fair Oaks Community Clubhouse, “Best Children’s Activities/Center” – Fair Oaks Recreation & Park District, and “Best Recreation” –Fair Oaks Recreation & Park District at the annual Best of Fair Oaks event held by the Fair Oaks Chamber of Commerce and voted on by the community at large.

March 9, 2022: H.R. 2471, the 2022 Fiscal Year government funding package, passed the House of Representatives. Of the $3.76 million in funding secured by Representative Ami Bera, $560,929 will fund the Districts Community Clubhouse Facility Renovation project In particular, funds will support accessibility upgrades

March 16, 2022: Eight (8) children participated in the Leprechaun Trap Making DIY class No Leprechauns were reported to have been caught

March 31, 2022: The District, along with our partners Fair Oaks Chamber of Commerce and the Foundation for Leisure & the Arts, hosted one final concert “Like the Good Ol’ Days” in Village Park before renovations and improvements began, as part of the Measure J construction projects.

April 16, 2022: An estimated 1,200 children participated in the free Egg Hunts at Easter Eggstravaganza, while upwards of 3,000 attended the event This marked the return of the Easter Eggstravaganza since the pandemic

May 3, 2022: The first Fair Oaks Farmers Market took place at Fair Oaks Park and continued weekly every Tuesday from 8am-1pm. Market provides local goods and fresh produce

May 5, 2022: The District hosted its first Summer Preview event Event offered a glimpse into upcoming summer programming, registration discounts, and raffle prizes

May 6, 2022: The new splash pad, located in Gum Ranch Park, opened for water play from dawn to dusk, through October.

June 4, 2022: 180 runners participated in the first restriction free 5k & 10k Mississippi Bar Trail Run at Mississippi Bar State Park. $700 was raised for the Rachel Anne Gray Memorial Scholarship.

June 11, 2022: The annual Fair Oaks Community Garage Sale returned since pre-pandemic. Over 55 number of sellers participated while an estimated 1,200 shoppers attended

June 13 - 16, 2022: Hundreds participated in the annual Fair Oaks Key Hunt throughout parks in Fair Oaks Over 400 keys were hidden through out Fair Oaks Park, a limited number of keys opened locks to prizes

June 24, July 29, & August 26, 2022:

Over 800 adults attended the Comedy Under the Stars series, presented in partnership with Laughs Unlimited Comedy Club Headliners Ken Garr, Mike Winfield (top 10 finisher of America’s Got Talent), and Cash Levy along with three other feature comedians kept the crowd engaged and laughing

July 6, August 3, & September 7 2022: In partnership with the Fair Oaks Chamber of Commerce, the District osted the 2nd summer series of rogressive Dinners. Participating usinesses included: Fair Oaks Brew ub, Wild Rooster Bistro, Brahm rill, Stockmans, O’ Café, Fai offee House & Deli, and Badfish & Tea.

August - November 2022: 17 team outh ages 6-14 participated in NFL Flag Football league.

August 6, 2022: UCCE Master Gardeners of Sacramento County hosted Harvest Day at the Fair Oaks Horticulture Center.

August 8, 2022: Hired the District's first Arts and Entertainment Manager to lead the Arts and Entertainment Division

September 17, 2022: Over 10,000 attended the District's signature event, the Fair Oaks Chicken Festival Festivities included: live music, kid’s park, pancake breakfast, food trucks, cornhole tournament, Cluck n’ Crow contest, vendors, beer and wine sales, and lots of community spirit!

June 13 - August 5, 2022: Camp Fair Oaks moved to Northridge Elementary School (SJUSD Joint Use) for the 8 -week summer offering The program created a space for 400 participants, ages 6-12 to create life-long memories through play, exploration, socialization, and arts & crafts

June 20, 2022: Village and Plaza renovations project construction began with an estimated 18-24 month timeline. Bobo Construction was selected as the general contractor with an overall contract amount of $21,750,000, which will cover the construction and renovations throughout Village Park, Plaza Park, the Community Clubhouse, and the Veteran’s Memorial Amphitheatre.

June 23, July 28, & August 25, 2022: Agents of Rock, Great Wide Open, and Wasted Space took the stage at the Districts free Concerts in the Park series Event is in partnership with the Fair Oaks Chamber of Commerce, and the Foundation for Leisure and the Arts

August 1, 2022: The District enter a contract with a new landscaping company: Cagwin & Dorward

August 2, 2022: Third year of Cost Recovery data collection and sorting was completed in partnership with 110% Cost Recovery and SmartRec by Amilia The District will use years 1-3 of data collection to set future goals and benchmarks as they relate to their Financial Support and Sustainability Strategic Plan.

September 21, 2022: Fair Oaks Recreation & Park District’s park employees were recognized by the Fair Oaks Board of Directors with an "Excellence in Safety Award" due to an exemplary record of safety throughout the calendar year, which resulted in zero workplace incidents, accidents, or injuries

October 1st, 2022: The District began utilizing a new work order and task management system called “Productive Parks,” which has already begun boosting responsiveness and productivity within the parks team

October 12, 2022: The District hosted an in-person community update meeting on Measure J projects

October 17 – 31, 2022: In partnership with the Fair Oaks Chamber of Commerce, the District hosted the 2nd annual Scarecrow Contest in the Village

the inaugural Gum Ranch Fall Festival at Gum Ranch Park. Activities included train rides, trick or treat trail, pumpkin picking, vendors, and activity booths.

October 26, 2022: Pumpkin Palooza Pop-Up event was hosted at Montview Park Attendees raced pumpkins down the large hill, played pumpkin bowling, and participated in a trick-or-treat trail With just one day’s notice, over 40 attendees came out to enjoy the event

October 29 & 30, 2022: The 2nd annual Headless Horse-AM was hosted by the Parkway Disc Golf Foundation at Miller Park Disc Golf Course. eighty-eight (88) disc golfers participated.

November 1, 2022: The District completed its third and final bond issuance for $9.4 million dollars of the Series 2018 GO Bonds. The District was able to obtain a AA- bond rating, which is an excellent rating, from Standard & Poor’s, due to the Board’s strong commitment to fiscal responsibility

The District signed a 50-year lease with San Juan Unified School District for the Sports Fields at La Vista The Fields will be renovated and operated by the Park District for Girls’ Softball

November 9, 2022: Christmas in Fair Oaks: December Holiday Guide, in partnership with the Fair Oaks Chamber of Commerce and local businesses, was released to the public This guide offered 31 days of events, classes, and programs to participate in locally here in Fair Oaks

November 12, 2022: Fair Oaks Recreation & Park District's very own Vikings Jr NFL team competed and won the 12-14 year-old division at the Sacramento Area Flag Football Championships.

December 1 – 31, 2022: The District hosted and/or were partners on a number of smaller events & programs for the holidays. These included Holiday Letters, Snowman Scavenger Hunt, Dreidel Game Kits, Glow Throw Disc Golf, Sweets & Treats, Holiday Crafting Kits, and 2022 Memory Books.
