Quality over quantity helps David beat Goliath

H

ow does David beat Goliath? The short answer is quality over quantity. Better products and better service trump fast and cheap every time. There are two stories in this month’s issue I want to draw your attention to. There are two local businesses thriving because of the quality products and services they provide. Despite heavy big box and chain franchise competition, they are thriving because they meet a real need in the community. The first is our cover story about Texas Roofing Supply. Located on the Southwest Freeway in Meadows Place, they offer only the best quality roofing materials on the market. Their premier product is Pabco shingles. TRS is an exclusive provider. You won’t find it at their big box competitors. It’s the heaviest and most durable asphalt shingle available in Texas and Texas Roofing Supply has it. It takes more than top-notch products to make a company successful and TRS has it with their people. Their dedicated staff is highly trained and caring professionals who will do their best to make your roofing project successful. The other business is a nice little restaurant in Missouri City called Off the Vine Bistro. Located on Dulles Avenue near the intersection of Highway 6, Off the Vine specializes in using

fresh, locally grown foods and offers a wide array of regional and imported wines and craft beers. The food is exquisitely prepared and many of the menu items are vegetarian and/or gluten free. Owner and chef Namita Asthana is committed to providing fresh, clean, organic, homegrown foods that are scrumptious and healthy. They also give back to the community, often holding special charity nights, wine tastings, coffee clubs and providing an entertainment venue for local musicians and artists. Asthana describes the menu as “Houstonian – as diverse as Houston is.” Because of the commitment to local products, the menu is seasonal and offers everything from hamburgers to salmon, steaks, pasta and more. As you flip through the pages of this issue, please take the time to learn about these and other fine businesses in our community. You will see a lot of mom-n-pop places that hold their own against the big box Goliaths. They have earned and deserve your support. Check them out and you’ll see why. hysicians at Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital encourage Fort Bend residents to remain mindful of the Zika virus throughout the fall months. “While there might be fewer headlines about Zika now, the virus is still very much a concern, especially for individuals who have traveled to the Caribbean or who have sexual partners who may be infected,” said Sarfraz Aly, M.D., an internal medicine/ infectious diseases specialist at Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital. As of early September, more than 2,400 cases of Zika have been reported in the United States, including 125 cases in Texas. The vast majority of individuals recently affected visited a Zika “hot zone,” where mosquitoes that carry the virus are plentiful and outbreaks have been severe. Only a handful are believed to have contracted the disease in the United States. Although the most common form of transmission is via mosquito bite, researchers have identified a number of other ways that the virus can be passed from human to human, including: maternal-fetal transmission; sexual transmission; transmission via blood transfusion; organ transplant; and through exposure during research in the laboratory. Aly says the biggest concern among U.S. medical experts is the ease with which the virus can be transmitted sexually. “Houston is an international city, and we have many residents who frequently travel to locations in South and Central America and the Caribbean where they can be exposed via a mosquito bite, and then return home and infect a partner through unprotected sex,” said Aly. The Centers for Disease Control says an individual who is infected with the Zika virus, or who was potentially exposed to Zika via travel to a hot zone, should abstain from all forms of unprotected sex with a pregnant partner for the duration of the pregnancy. “This is critical because the virus can cause significant birth defects in unborn babies,” said Aly.

November 2016 H Fort Bend / Katy Business Journal

Any individual, male or female, who has traveled to a hot zone should wait at least eight weeks before having unprotected intercourse, even if they have no Zika symptoms. The Sarfraz Aly, M.D. virus typically has an incubation period of 2-14 days, and some patients never display any symptoms and can carry the virus without knowing it. For men who have a confirmed or suspected case of Zika, the waiting period is six months before engaging in unprotected sex. For women with a confirmed or suspected case, it is eight weeks. Once infected, the most common symptoms are low-grade fever, maculopapular rash (flat, red area covered with small bumps), joint pain and conjunctivitis (pink eye). Most people brush it off as a common cold; very rarely do patients end up in the hospital. Also very rarely, patients can be affected by Guillain-Barre syndrome – a syndrome where the peripheral neural system is affected. As of today, there is no preventive vaccine available or specific treatment for patients with the virus. The best course of action is prevention, but once a patient is identified as having the virus, doctors typically focus on management of symptoms and primarily suggest plenty of rest and fluids. Aly advises that, if possible, women and their partners should avoid travel to areas where Zika is prevalent. A full list of these sites is available at http://www.cdc.gov/zika/ geo/active-countries.html. If you believe you may have been exposed to the Zika virus, contact your primary care physician immediately, or call 281-274-7500 for a physician referral. TWU hosts Stafford Middle School students at Pre-Nursing Academy By Laura Byerley

A

fter school let out in May, Kanden Stewart, a student at Stafford Middle School, was not particularly looking forward to his summer schedule. His mother had signed him up for a PreNursing Academy co-hosted by Texas Woman’s University’s Nelda C. Stark College of Nursing and the Stafford Municipal School District, and it was not something he would have chosen. Now, however, he has quite a story to tell when asked what he did on his summer vacation. “I told my mom I didn’t want to go at the beginning, but now I’m glad she had me go to this program,” Stewart said. “It was more fun than I thought it would be.” With a goal of recruiting minority nursing students and promoting culturally competent patient care, the Pre-Nursing Academy hosted its first summer program June 27 through July 1. Twenty-eight seventh graders from Stafford Middle School learned more about nursing from TWU faculty, as well as nursing students enrolled in the Stafford Middle School Community Experience. TWU students created teaching plans and led interactive classrooms, teaching obstetrical, critical, newborn and wound care. TWU students also taught the use of crutches, explained how to take vital signs and led clinical simulation labs with simulated mannequin patients. The academy also included a Friends and Family CPR class and general nursing lecture led by TWU faculty members, as well as a Texas Children’s Hospital tour. “It’s been phenomenal to say the least,” said Assistant Professor Rachelle Nurse, who co-taught the course with Associate Professor Diane Montgomery. “The feedback so far has been overwhelming. On the first day, we asked the students how many wanted to be nurses. Two hands went up. By the end of the week, 70 percent of the class raised their hands.”

Stafford student Olivia Nwosu said that the program has encouraged her to study nursing. “It was great,” said Nwosu, whose favorite lessons were the maternal and newborn care simulations. “I would study nursing because of this program.” “There were tears, because now the middle school students have an expectation of wanting to become a nurse,” Nurse said. “We’re using nursing students to recruit the next generation of nurses, and we’re changing the perception of the nursing profession in the eyes of middle school students.” Cameron Pujats, senior nursing student, said she wished that she would have had a program like the Pre-Nursing Academy when she was younger. “Due to second-guessing my plans for the future, lots of doubts about my ability and fear of rejection, my path to becoming a nurse was full of roadblocks, but I feel like it would’ve been much smoother had I had a program like this growing up,” Pujats said. “I think it really shed light on the profession as a whole and showed students that it was more than working in a hospital and it was more than what they might see on television.” The program also helped TWU students gain more confidence in their teaching skills. “The most challenging part of this program was finding a way to teach children who were 11 and 12 years old about what nurses do and make it interesting and still educational,” said Elizabeth Garcia, senior nursing major. “I feel like this program was very successful… This experience has made me more comfortable with teaching, which is a huge part of nursing.” Vivian Perez, senior nursing student, said that the academy has furthered her interest in pursuing a master’s in nursing, because she would love to teach and lead a program like the Pre-Nursing Academy. “Teaching is an aspect of nursing many are unaware of and to be confident in my abilities to do that significantly increases my abilities as a nurse,” Perez said. “This program makes me look forward to the future of nursing.”

Is your path to retirement paved or made of sand?

s I sat contemplating this article, I thought, what do people need to hear now? You see, I write these articles knowing that many may read a certain article but only a few may be touched by it. It could be timing, it could be philosophy, it could be inertia — but some people may read these articles, come to one of our seminars or watch my TV show and have a reaction, but then they take no action. It’s because change is hard. Think of a time that you made a change and it didn’t go so well — perhaps even a time you changed financial firms or advisors. Have you been burned? With the number of financial “experts” in the media and on the internet increasing substantially every day, to whom do you turn for help making arguably one of the top three decisions

you’ll make in your life — how do I retire? I am going to argue that you deserve a retirement income planner who can help you retire strong, retire confidently and retire April R. Roberts, J.D. empowered. How do you find this? How about finding a retirement income planner who helps you craft a written plan. If you were building a home and the contractor told you not to worry about the details, no need to work off of a plan — would you worry or be ok that the guy or gal building your home that

you planned to live in forever was just “winging it.” I’ll bet your socks you’d worry. And yet, everyday, everywhere across this country, people just like you let their financial advisor or retirement planner “wing it.” Don’t let this be you — if you and your family do not have a written retirement plan that is your paved path to retirement, please do yourself a favor — demand to see your advisor’s plan. Unique partnership with Fort Bend ISD puts Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital athletic trainers on campus, saving young lives

I

n the first few weeks of the 2016 high school football season, three local players were saved from lifethreatening medical issues – thanks to quick responses from highly skilled athletic trainers provided through a unique partnership between Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital and Fort Bend Independent School District. The program – now in its third year – places athletic trainers at each of Fort Bend ISD’s 11 high schools throughout the school year. The athletic trainers are part of the hospital’s athletic training residency program and serve the schools as assistant athletic trainers, working with all teams and supporting the head athletic trainer’s work with varsity squads. “Our athletic trainers bring a tremendous benefit to the campuses,” said Bill Wissen, athletic training outreach manager for the hospital and Houston Methodist Orthopedics & Sports Medicine. “These are schools with large athletic programs, and in football, many have well over 200 participants. Our partnership with Fort Bend ISD enables us to provide the needed support for student-athletes without requiring additional funding from the school district.” There when needed After an August scrimmage at Ridge Point High School in Missouri City, a varsity player complained to assistant athletic trainer Amanda Jagielo about abdominal pain. An examination convinced Jagielo that the player had a possible ruptured spleen, and she had his parents take him to the emergency room at Houston

Methodist Sugar Land Hospital, where his injury was confirmed and life-saving treatment was performed. After Ridge Point JV’s first regular season game, another player told Jagielo that he was experiencing “sharp neck pain.” She conducted a concussion exam and sent for the player’s father. By the time the athlete’s dad reached the field house, Jagielo had recognized a rapid decline in the player’s condition, and she suspected an epidural hematoma, or bleeding in the brain. The player was immediately sent to the emergency room at Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital, and a CT scan confirmed the hemorrhage. He was stabilized and transferred to Texas Children’s Hospital, where pediatric neurologists were able to stop the bleeding without surgery. “Those are the ones that really scare you, because they can be easy to miss, and if the player goes home and goes to sleep, it can be fatal,” said Wissen. “Amanda’s training and skill made all the difference because she diagnosed his condition right away and, ultimately, saved his life.” On the first day of football practice, a 14-year-old freshman at Bush High School in Richmond went into cardiac arrest just outside of the locker room. Fortunately, M.J. Schultz – the school’s assistant athletic trainer and a resident in Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital’s athletic training residency program

– was on-site. Schultz immediately ran to the player, and saw that he had no pulse and wasn’t breathing. He cleared the player’s airway and began CPR while one of the coaches brought over the emergency defibrillator. It took three shocks to revive the player, who was later transported by air ambulance and underwent surgery to implant a pacemaker. “There is absolutely no doubt that the outcome would have been different if M.J. had not been there, with his training and ability to react calmly and professionally,” said Wissen. “The pediatric cardiologist who implanted the pacemaker told us that M.J. had given the teenager ‘a second chance at life.’” Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital is one of just five institutions in the country with an athletic training residency program that is fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). In addition to being the official health care partner for Fort Bend ISD athletics – and more than 70 other schools throughout the region through its outreach efforts – the hospital is making tremendous strides in raising the level of care available at the high school level by educating the next generation of athletic trainers with the highest standards. “More and more school districts are realizing that having proper coverage by skilled athletic trainers can save lives,” said Marie Charpentier, who coordinates the sports

physical therapy and athletic training residency programs at Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital. “Many school districts just don’t have enough athletic trainers on staff to handle the demands, and there is a real need for individuals with the highest level of training. Rural schools, especially, are clamoring for help. We’re involved across the region, and our graduates are in high demand.” Complete care for young athletes In addition to its on-campus staffing and outreach program, Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital also has two full-service, hightech emergency rooms that can provide complete diagnoses and treatment for local athletes, at the hospital itself and the Houston Methodist Emergency Care Center in Sienna Plantation. Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital is also a leader in a new medical specialty known as primary care sports medicine. David Braunreiter, M.D., and Nader Ayub, D.O., of Houston Methodist Orthopedics & Sports Medicine, provide young athletes with a unique blend of services that are tailored to active preteens and teenagers. “Student athletes need a primary care physician who understands the commitment they have to their sport along with staying

healthy and active,” said Ayub. “A common story we hear is when an athlete suffers a minor injury, and his or her pediatrician says ‘no activity for a month.’ That’s just not possible for someone in the middle of a season. We help student-athletes successfully manage both injuries and chronic conditions, such as asthma or allergies, so they can return to action as soon as it is medically safe.” Braunreiter and Ayub are also well versed in concussion management and the latest and most advanced protocols, including the use of ImPACT (the computer-based assessment and cognitive testing tool). Commitment to local athletes Together, these programs and professionals are keeping local athletes healthy – and alive. “We see this outreach as a vital component of our commitment to the community,” said Chris Siebenaler, CEO of Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital. “These young athletes need the same level of care and attention as professionals do. It’s not just about taping ankles or helping kids with a sprain. It can be a matter of life or death.” For more information about Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital, visit houstonmethodist.org/sugarland or call 281274-7500 for a physician referral.

TSTC opens new Rosenberg campus

T

exas State Technical College in Fort Bend County celebrated the opening of its new campus with a ribbon cutting and grand opening that included a surprise that will pay off big for students’ futures. Master of ceremonies Russ Lewis, KHOU 11 morning anchor, began the program with a huge Texas welcome to the more than 400 people in attendance. Included in the group were community leaders and residents; college donors and supporters; and TSTC administration, faculty and staff. Vice Chancellor and Chief Execution Officer Randy Wooten emphasized the notion that TSTC will have a major impact on Fort Bend County and its neighboring communities. “Through this event we tried to bring together all the people of this community who made this campus happen,” Wooten said. “Undoubtingly, it is the leaders, the education advocates and the visionaries who truly understand that TSTC will make Fort Bend County a better place to live and work.” Wooten thanked those that came together to raise the money to invest in a brighter future for all of the residents of Fort Bend County. “You made this happen,” said Wooten. “You not only worked together, but

Industrial Technology Center houses stateof-the-art labs and classrooms for the more than 250 students enrolled. It is the first building in what will eventually be a six to eight building campus with the capacity to support 5,000 students. With construction on the second building, the Brazos Center, underway and scheduled to be complete for fall 2017, TSTC Chancellor Mike Reeser made two special announcements that will change the lives of many prospective TSTC students. “I am proud to announce that TSTC has set up a money back guarantee that allows a student who fails to find a job within six months of graduating to receive a refund of their tuition, and TSTC’s Foundation Board has decided that each family here tonight will receive a $1,000 scholarship certificate.” The scholarships are to be given to a deserving Fort Bend County resident who is willing to make the commitment to be a new full-time TSTC student. “Just like you helped us build this campus, you will help us grow it,” said Reeser. “Together we will bring in students, we will graduate them and put them in the region’s workforce.” Rosenberg resident Linda Knesek spoke nothing but praises about TSTC’s new Fort Bend County campus. “TSTC has done the community proud,” said Knesek. “This type of facility has been a dream for so many people for a long time and I understand it will only grow from here. We’re blessed to have this here in Fort

Bend County.” Knesek also took advantage of the $1,000 scholarship certificates being distributed at the event. “This scholarship is going to my greatnephew who just graduated from high school,” said Knesek. “A four-year degree isn’t for him, so this is a great opportunity for him.” TSTC serves Texas with 10 campuses throughout the state. TSTC in Fort Bend County offers certificate and associate degrees in cyber security, diesel equipment, HVAC, industrial maintenance, precision machining, telecommunications and welding technologies. Four more technologies are to be offered next year. The Fort Bend County legislative delegation came together to push through a complicated effort including three separate pieces of legislation and two separate funding items. State Rep. John Zerwas authored House Bill 658, allowing the campus to be established. The bill was co-sponsored by representatives Phil Stephenson, Rick Miller and Ron Reynolds, and Sen. Lois Kolkhorst sponsored the bill in the Senate, bringing it through to its final passage. “I hope we all remember that your elected officials in Austin made it happen,” said TSTC Chancellor and CEO Michael Reeser. “In statute, they created this campus. We wouldn’t have it without them. TSTC campuses are actually created by the legislature, so it takes their work in order to open a new location.” Both longtime TSTC supporters, Zerwas serves as chairman of the House Committee

on Higher Education and Kolkhorst is a member of the Senate Committee on Education. “Rarely as an elected official do you get to see something from the beginning, when it was just a vision, when it was just a dream, to where you see it is right now,” said Zerwas. Kolkhorst said Thursday’s celebration commemorated more than the opening of the campus, it also represented the community coming together. “When we talk about the donations from the two foundations, and the two cities, the county and industry – it’s well north of $37 million that was donated,” Kolkhorst said. “So the state portion was almost like a match to make this a reality. I want to thank the citizens of Fort Bend County for all the efforts in bringing TSTC, the partnership with Wharton County Junior College and the symbiotic relationship that they have. It’s just going to be very exciting to see the impact that it has in not only Fort Bend County, but the surrounding counties as well.” House Bill 658, which established the campus, was signed by Gov. Greg Abbott on May 23, 2015. Zerwas also authored House Bill 100, signed later in June, which

designated $14.9 million to the construction of a second building at TSTC in Fort Bend County. U.S. Rep. Pete Olson, R-Texas, commended TSTC for helping further job creation and pursuit of the American dream for generations to come. “I’m proud to be able to point to the people in D.C. that TSTC is what’s great about America,” he said. Fort Bend County Judge Bob Herbert said TSTC made the third leg in the county’s educational table. The public schools make one leg, the higher education institutes of the University of Houston, Houston Community College and Wharton County Junior College make the second. TSTC, he said, fills in the educational gap between the two, providing a third leg of education in the county. “When it came to vocational skills, we always had that short leg that we had to shore up,” he said. The campus is expected to grow to house six to eight buildings and support 5,000 students. For more information on the Fort Bend County campus, call 832-595-8734 or visit www.tstc.edu/fbc. Texas Roofing Supply A true David and Goliath story

Business FORT BEND

COVER STORY

CEO/President Brian L. Slay - Texas Roofing Supply.

Texas Roofing Supply, CFO Austin Hill.

16

T

exas Roofing Supply is a wholesale distributor of roofing products located on the edge of Fort Bend County in Meadows Place. They specialize in catering to roofing contractors and builders who install roofing products on a daily basis. Texas Roofing Supply is the brainchild of CEO Brian L. Slay. After spending 10 years as a contractor and seven years as a contractor salesman at ABC and then SRS, Slay was ready to fill a gap in the market and truly put the customer first. In order to do that successfully with no bad habits, TRS needed to start from the ground up. It has been exactly two years since the Fort Bend/Katy Business Journal visited Texas Roofing Supply and talked to Slay, the founder and CEO. Brian, it’s been two years since your grand opening in November 2014. How’s it going? Well, we’re still here! Honestly it has been a great ride. There have of course been challenges, but without them I think life would be a little dull, right? I don’t know if I should call you Brian or David?

David!? Well that would be kinda strange, wouldn’t it? Yeah, David, as in someone who’s surrounded by all these Goliaths! At least that’s how I understand the story. Haha! Yeah, I guess you could characterize the situation that way. The industry refers to this market as the “land of the giants,” which references my multi-billion-dollar competitors in this market and our backyard. We are the little guy that everyone laughed at and was picked last at recess. We were told: you are too small, you don’t have enough trucks, you don’t have enough capital, you don’t have enough vendor support, you won’t last 6 months. Just like David, we were small and our competitors are big. Very big. You know, publicly traded, spend more on racing sponsorships than we sell in a year, 4 tiers of local managers, private jets, and funding political parties- big. Goliaths. The obvious question that Business Journal readers want to know is: how did you do it? You are still here; your building just got a new paint job and a face-lift. How did you pull it off? You know, it seems like just yesterday we were putting up 26-foot sheetrock inside and knocking down six-inch thick concrete walls to

Javier assisting a customer.

allow our trucks inside the building. We were working with Charles Jessup, the mayor, over at Meadows Place to help develop all of this, and I consider him a great partner and friend. I think the answer to your question is just that. Make partnerships, be honest, and be prepared to hold up your end of the deal even if the other guy doesn’t. I think that concept in a nutshell explains our short history here, and I think it’s still working today. Unlike David, we left our sling shots at home. We walked up to our Goliath’s with customer service in one hand and superior, underrepresented products in the other. If you are a contractor and buying from one of the Goliaths, you are going to be 1 of 100,000 customers. A small customer to them is a large customer to us and we treat them accordingly. We aren’t trying to sell to every roofer. Just the best ones that care about service, quality and value. Talk to me about partnerships. Our partnerships include the City of Meadows Place, Fort Bend County, our manufacturer partners, and most importantly our contractor and builder partners. We are very grateful for our customers. And how have those partnerships affected your growth and expansion?

The Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association (ARMA) awards Pabco Roofing Products as the assisting Gold winner in the national contest. (Submitted photo) Javier a customer.

Growth and expansion aside, our partnerships have afforded us the ability to give contractors a way to differentiate themselves and put the best roofs on homes. Period. As we discussed in the 2014 article, Houston has primarily been a 4-shingle market. Prior to TRS coming along, homeowners and contractors didn’t have a choice. As Amazon.com has proven, it turns out people like having choices – and we don’t think those people only live in southwest Houston. Our staff has grown, our product offering has grown, and we are on the brink of expanding. I can’t tell you too much more without getting into trouble. So things are still going well with Pabco Roofing Products? Yes, that is a partnership we are very proud of. We’ve met so many roofing contractors who were tired of losing jobs to other contractors, simply because they were offering one of the national brands instead of Pabco. In addition, our relationship with Atlas Roofing Materials, who also offer Scotchgard in their products, really just helps further our message. Let’s talk about that message. What is that?

Fort Bend / Katy Business Journal H November 2016

Simply put, roofing shingles have changed a lot on a national scale. They are a lot more lightweight due to increased costs of asphalt and shipping. They tend to rapidly and dramatically lose their appearance due to costs associated with copper. So, if you have manufacturers and their partners still producing a product that will last 20+ years and look the same as the day you bought it … well, I just think that is a story worth telling. And the partner to those manufacturers is 3M Scotchgard, right? Yes, 3M has been around since 1902, and they have owned the Scotchgard brand for over 50 years now. They were the ones who began researching staining and discoloration on shingles all the way back in the 1950s. It wasn’t until the 1990s that they came up with a solution: copper. It was the early 2000s when they tied that technology to the existing Scotchgard brand and began allowing certain shingle manufacturers to use it. CONTINUES...

17

Robin making another sale.

So, Pabco and Atlas both use Scotchgard? That is absolutely correct. How is that message being received? Well, I believe it has all come together quite nicely. We have built an exceptional team here and are very pleased with the results. Not a day goes by when I do not hear from a homeowner or contractor about how appreciative they are about our efforts. Tell us about your team. Oh, I couldn’t be prouder. Some of the good folks that started with us unfortunately couldn’t stay here, but that has allowed us to make investments into a greater and more organized team. We have one of the hardest working and most loyal teams in the industry. You will never find a guy more appreciative of the people who choose to spend their time and efforts to work alongside of me. One of the best ways I can think to express that is to say this: Who you start with isn’t always who you end with, but who you end with is always who you wish you would have started with. Why should customers buy from you? There are several reasons. First, our company was founded by former commercial and residential roofing contractors. We have been in your shoes and know your business. We

encourage our contractors to buy the best individual products for their customers, not a system roof forced on the homeowner from the shingle manufacturer. We sell the heaviest shingle in Texas with 3M’s unmatched Scotchgard algae warranty. We take pride in selling our products, not taking orders. We offer online ordering and

account management. Our sales representatives are for all customer sizes, not just the biggest contractors in town. We have drive-through pick up. You can pick up your order without leaving your truck. We have delivery photos. Pictures of drops are sent immediately, automatically, and free of charge to your email, and we also file them with the invoice. We don’t have shareholders. Unlike some of the other fellows down the street, we are a true mom and pop. We don’t report quarterly earnings to Wall Street. We don’t have to answer to private equity fund managers looking for any way to cut costs or increase prices at our customers’ expense. We can do what is best for the long-term success of our company, and more importantly what is best for the long-term relationships we have with our customers. We are in the business of making money with our customers, not at their expense. Whether you buy a roof a month or 30 roofs a day, we are committed to treating you with the respect and professional courtesy that you deserve.
