EXCLAMATION POINTS! THE INSIDE SCOOP STRAIGHT FROM THE TOP

Publisher/Editor-in-Chief, PATTI PARISH-KAMINSKI

Vol. 11 No. 6 April 2015

Spring Has Sprung Spring is finally here – no April foolin’ – and I for one am ready! It’s time to shake off those winter blues, get outdoors and enjoy nature, and in this issue, we bring all that the outdoors has to offer. From Easter egg hunts to a Historic Walking Tour of Sugar Land to a Superhero Fun Run to the 12th annual Sugar Land Wine & Food Affair, you’ll find several great events in this issue to be out and about in the Bend. So get outside, and enjoy! Speaking of being out and about, have you been Patti Parish-Kaminski and Sharon to the Houston Museum of Natural Science at Sugar Hilburn celebrating the kick off of the Fort Bend Family YMCA capital Land lately? Adrienne Barker, the Museum’s Direc- campaign. tor and Chief Development Officer, invited Zeenat Kassam Mitha and I over recently to tour their new exhibit, and frankly, it’s phenomenal. The Exotic Crystals of India exhibit debuted at our own Sugar Land Museum, and it is not to be missed. Check out Zeenat’s story about these amazing gems of nature on page 40. While spring tends to make us want to be outdoors and move, for many, spring is the season to move, and Fort Bend Focus can help. From making certain that your home has curb appeal to finding the perfect Realtor, our Key Realtors section features the leading Real Estate professionals in Fort Bend. So, if your version of spring fever is to literally move, call on these experts to help find your new home. Easter is one of my family’s favorite holidays, and this month, we celebrate Easter with an adorable recipe for Easter cupcakes. Now that my children are both older, I guess I’ll miss out on making treat-filled Easter baskets, watching them hunt for eggs, dressing them up in their Sunday best for Easter service . . . Who am I kidding? There will always be Easter baskets, egg hunts and new pink dresses and bow ties at momma’s house! From our family to yours, we wish you a most blessed Easter. Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die.” – John 11:25-26

Hometown Girl

Returns to Her Roots Tamara S. Osina-Felinski, DDS

T

amara “Tammy” Osina knew early on she wanted to be a doctor. She wanted to help people, but more importantly, she wanted to have the opportunity to get to know them, not just on a medical level but on a personal one as well. She wanted to be the kind of doctor who patients looked forward to seeing to not only have their needs met but to also have someone to share their family news with. So, Tammy Osina became a dentist. After completing her undergraduate degree in Biomedical Science at Texas A&M College Station, Dr. Osina, who is a Lamar Consolidated High School graduate, earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from the University of Texas Dental Branch Houston in 2002. “Dentistry allows me to spend extra time with patients and to get to know the whole family,” said Dr. Osina, who added that the practice was founded in 1974. “I am able to treat the patient as a whole — not just their dental needs, but emotional and health needs as well.” After graduating in Houston, Dr. Osina practiced in the city for two years before returning to her hometown of Richmond in 2004, a place she said held her roots and provided the perfect atmosphere for her practice — Tamara S. Osina DDS Family and Cosmetic Dentistry. “The smalltown feel is really what I wanted for my practice. Not to mention, I grew up here and wanted to raise my family here. Richmond was the only choice.” She remembers the first day at her Richmond practice in 2004. “It was like a homecoming,” she said. “I knew many of the patients already, as well as several of the staff. It was a perfect fit.” In 2009, Dr. Osina built a new building in Richmond on Thompson Road, not far from the T.W. Davis YMCA, and relocated her thriving practice.

Committed to Comfort Since her return home, Dr. Osina’s practice has continued to serve and satisfy scores of patients. To date, the office boasts 12 team members, some of whom have been with the practice for 10, 25 and 35 years. “At so many offices — medical or otherwise — there

seems to be changes in staff and no familiar faces,” Dr. Osina said. “Here, you will always see a friendly face, you will always be treated with respect and compassion and you will always be cared for like family.” And for that reason, Dr. Osina said Dr. Hanna L. Conklin, who joined the practice last year, made a perfect addition to the dental family. “She was a perfect fit really. We have similar practice and treatment styles. Everyone knows me, I’m an open book and both Dr. Conklin and I take our patient relationships very seriously. It’s not uncommon for us to discuss the day we had with our patients and have a big laugh or a cry over stories that patients share with us.” Dr. Osina also pointed out that many of the team members have been raised locally and have raised their families in Fort Bend County, and this is what sets her dental practice apart from the competitors — its intense tie to the surrounding community. “We’re not just treating patients,” said Dr. Osina. “We treat their children, their parents, their grandchildren. We connect with families in this community.” Just last year, not only was Dr. Osina was named top dentist in Fort Bend County in 2014 in a local community award based on recommendations by patients, Charlene Vyvial was also named the best dental assistant. And their patients feel that they are being treated by the best.

he goal of Dr. Tamara “Tammy” Osina and Dr. Hanna Conklin is to provide for all dental needs by preventing disease, pain and oral health problems through their comprehensive approach. Their team offers complete dental care including cosmetic, periodontal treatment, oral surgery, root canal therapy, sedation dentistry, oral cancer screenings and dental implants. The state-of-the-art facility also offers LED-ZOOM teeth whitening, soft tissue laser therapy, digital X-rays, Intra-oral diagnostic camera and computer aided patient education. Patients have a variety of choices at their disposal for dental procedures. The office offers Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas), conscious sedation and IV sedation. Additionally, the practice also offers the latest in dental anesthetic, Oraverse, which shortens numbing times for patients. “We try and keep most services in house, because we know our patients are comfortable here,” said Dr. Osina. “We want them to see the faces they are used to seeing, and we know we are the best team to take care of all of their dental needs.” Tamara S. Osina DDS Family and Cosmetic Dentistry is located at 1320 Thompson Road in Richmond near the T.W. Davis YMCA. The office is open Monday through Friday, with flexible hours to accommodate busy schedules. For more information, call 281-342-5022 or visit www.osinadds.com.

“Every day is different and special and filled with my favorite people — my family, my team and my patients.” – Tamara S. Osina, DDS

Bob and Bo Felinski, Tamara Osina-Felinski and Thomas Felinski.

“Everything was great as usual,” said patient JoAnn regarding a recent visit to the practice. “The office is beautiful and welcoming. Everyone is friendly and helpful, not only to their patients but to each other as well. It’s obvious they enjoy their jobs. I never have to wait more than a couple of minutes before being called back. I learned a long time ago not to pick up a magazine, because I won’t have time to open it. They provide very prompt service. I’ve been coming to this practice for over 30 years, and I’ve always received excellent dental care.” In addition to the personal touch, Dr. Osina’s practice provides the most advanced care by keeping up with the latest dentistry through post-graduate continuing education. “I believe that dental education is never completed. There is always something to learn,” said Dr. Osina. Dr. Osina has completed curriculum at LVI-Las Vegas Institute, attended post graduate courses each year and has served on the council which organizes the annual dental convention bringing continuing education to all dentists in the Houston area.

Passion for Volunteering If there is one other thing Dr. Osina takes pride in aside from her family and practice, it’s her devotion to volunteering in her community. “We pride ourselves on being integral volunteers and supporters of the community in which we all live and work,” Dr. Osina said. “I’m a hometown girl, and I’m not going anywhere.” Prior to starting a family, Dr. Osina traveled to Corinto, Honduras in Central America on a medical mission trip to provide dental treatment, but now that she’s placed roots in Richmond, she, as well as her team, is devoted to volunteering on a more local level. Dr. Osina currently serves on the Children’s Discovery Center-Children’s Museum committee for building funds, as well as the American Cancer Society Couture for the Cause event committee. Additionally, many of the team members serve on committees for the Fort Bend County Fair, and Dr. Osina is a former board member or the organization. On top of that, the practice also supports several other organizations including children’s sport teams, Lunches of Love, Behind the Badge

charities and Lamar Educational Awards Foundation. “I truly love what I do,” Dr. Osina said. “Every day is different and special and filled with my favorite people — my family, my team and my patients.” Dr. Osina is married to Bob Felinski, and the couple has two boys, Bo and Thomas. When Dr. Osina and her husband aren’t offshore fishing and competing in tournaments — something they absolutely love doing — they are with their sons on the boat or having fun at the beach. What Do I Do Now?

L

ast month, we discussed what happens if you lose your job because of the decline in oil prices. That subject ties into one of our main decade themes that guides our investments. Today, let’s briefly look at those and the two new themes that are developing.

Original Decade Themes • Invest in energy users, not producers. • Resurgence of U.S. manufacturing on the back of cheap energy. • Growth over value. • Breaking up of corporate conglomerates. Activists are forcing corporate boards to justify their cost structure.

New Additions • “Beggar thy neighbor” – There is a currency war underway. Japan started aggressively weakening their currency, the Yen, 15 months ago. The Euro started declining nine months ago. What will this mean for their economies, and how will it affect gold?

• Cyber Security – It’s here, and it’s real. Just ask Target, Sony or Blue Cross Blue Shield about data breaches. Over the past four decades, I’ve observed that the most successful investors recognize major themes and stay with them. The first four themes have certainly fit the bill. Energy has been crushed and growth has outperformed value. In future articles, we will discuss the two new themes and how to invest in them. What themes drive your portfolio? Is it powered by old or driven by new? Maybe it’s time to reconsider how your portfolio is invested. Power up with the Hardee Investment Group, and see how we can align your portfolio with our themes, all while doing what’s in the client’s best interest. This article provided by H. Coming Together for

Child Abuse Prevention Month By Zeenat Kassam Mitha

CAFB in 2014. “Child abuse affects all cultures. The numbers are astonishing, as one in four girls and one in six boys will be abused by the age of 18,” stated Mefford. “Every eight minutes, a child in Texas is abused.” Throughout the month, CAFB will provide its Facebook followers with information on how to recognize and prevent child abuse and ways to get involved.

A Passion for Children

Fiona Remko, Sylviane Hoare, Ruthanne Mefford and Metoyer Martin at Child Advocates of Fort Bend’s Annual Volunteer Celebration.

A

pril is Child Abuse Prevention Month. “You give but little when you give of your possessions. It is when you give of yourself that you truly give,” said 1990s poet Khalil Gibran. This quote explains the appreciation Child Advocates of Fort Bend (CAFB) has for its volunteers, as displayed during the organization’s Annual Volunteer Celebration on February 4th at Sweetwater Country Club. At the Annual Volunteer Celebration attended by almost 180 volunteers, community partners and staff from all cultures and backgrounds, Sylviane Hoare was named Child Advocate of the Year for 2014. “Sylviane exemplifies the ultimate in volunteerism to the agency, going above and beyond,” said CAFB Chief Executive Officer Ruthanne Mefford. Other honorees at the volunteer celebration included Lynn Halford and Peggy Jackson with the Lifetime Hero Award, Karen Jordin as Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) Volunteer of the Year, Margaret Proctor and her poodle, Louie, as Children’s Advocacy Center Volunteer of the Year and Mimi Zaybak as Development Volunteer of the Year. Organizations such as CAFB could not exist without financial support, but there are many ways the Blue Ribbon individuals can give of themselves as the evening’s honorees demonstrated.

The Blue Ribbon In spring 1989, Bonnie Finney was given the news that her grandson had died of injuries caused by his parents. Grief stricken and outraged, Finney tied a blue ribbon to the antenna of her van to create awareness about child abuse. This idea was quickly picked up by organizations across the country. Blue ribbons that are tied around trees are a reminder to protect and support all children. During Child Abuse Prevention Month, consider putting one in your car or give them to your friends and share the meaning with them.

At the Volunteer Appreciation Celebration, I was asked how I got involved, so I explained my love for children. By the age of eight, I was creating homemade educational games for babies and babysitting books, which I shared with my friends. After I got a weekend job at the age of 14, I sponsored my first child in need in Africa. While in college, my passion grew, and I created awareness for children in need locally through Mobilization of Voluntary Efforts (M.O.V.E.). I was on the board of directors for the student media, and M.O.V.E. became a college movement. I spent my college summers as a counselor and then a director at a children’s camp. It was there I learned about St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, and my heart broke. I created awareness and supported them in whatever ways I could. When I was blessed with my own children, I wanted to give back locally, and I was fortunate to find CAFB. At a Voices for Children Tour at CAFB, attendees learn about the agency’s mission and the children they serve, as well as what the community can do to help. For a list of tours, visit cafb.org/Events/Voices-for-ChildrenTours or contact Irene Wisner at iwisner@cafb.org or 281-344-5106.

Child Advocates of Fort Bend CAFB is known as the “one-stop” shop for child victims of sexual abuse, physical abuse and neglect. They provide a voice, heal the hurt and break the cycle of abuse and neglect for children and their families. Almost 1,500 children and families were served by

How to Choose a

Summer Camp A

s the weather turned into spring, a secret switch probably clicked in your head reminding you that summer is just around the corner. And, with the kids soon to be off from school, the daunting task of finding a fun, purposeful and most importantly, safe place for them now looms. Choosing a good summer camp can be overwhelming, but armed with the right information and the right questions, you can easily find a great program that fits your schedule and your children’s needs. Not all camps are created equal, and even those that claim they are state licensed may have large variations in their policies and procedures. Here are some key points to always investigate with a prospective camp. Is the camp licensed? If so, which State Department are they licensed through? Programs can by licensed by either the Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) or the Department of Health and Human Services (HHSC). Most programs under the former are year-round “child-care” centers and are allowed to supervise very young children. Programs under the latter department are day campstyle programs or outdoor and overnight camps, which include most of the summer camps your children will attend. Does the camp run background checks? What criminal convictions do they allow employees to have? According to Rule 265.12 of the HHSC, a camp doesn’t have to necessarily turn down an applicant just because they have been convicted of a crime. While certain convictions are never permitted under state law, employees with felonies may still be employed if two camp executive staff members evaluate them and deem them suitable for employment. Make sure the camp has a written policy about who they allow and you are comfortable with it. How does the camp handle first aid? The HHSC does not require every staff member to be first aid and CPR certified. While some camps do train all of their staff, some don’t. Especially if your child has health issues or allergies that may require administration of Epi-Pens, you may want to ensure the adult with them is trained in proper medical response during emergencies. CPR training near pools is a must.

What is the camp’s staff-to-camper ratio? Are there any times when they don’t maintain that ratio? While the state requires at least a one to 10 ratio for most campers, it only requires an adult to stay in the immediate vicinity of their campers during a “hazardous activity.” During low-risk times, the ratio may drop to one to 25. Make sure your expectations for your child’s supervision match those of the camp. How does the camp handle pick-up, and how can you control who takes home your child? We’ve all been there: You get stuck at the doctor with the little one and your best friend offers to pick up your other child from camp. This situation is innocent enough, but how the camp handles a stranger attempting to pick up your child is an important set of procedures. Ask how this situation would be handled, and see if they control their carpool line and exits well enough to ensure your child goes home with the right person. Do they check IDs? What would they do if they couldn’t get in touch with you? Ask these questions before those situations arise.

5

All camp programs worth their salt should be licensed, and all should be willing to answer your questions regarding the safety of your children. So ask now, and rest easy later, knowing your kids are safe and having fun this summer.

The official headquarters of the Fort Bend County Republican Party is relocating to Rosenberg’s Downtown Historic District in offices located at 2012 Avenue G. The official party headquarters, which has been located in Sugar Land for the past several years in multiple locations and a Katy office this past election cycle, is relocating to the 3,000 square foot space in order to provide a full-time home for the party. “Our move to Rosenberg, the geographic center of the county, allows us for the first time in our history to have a single year round headquarters for the party,” said Mike Gibson, Fort Bend County Republican Party Chairman. “By having this location, we can maintain our headquarters throughout the year and focus on more community engagement.” The new offices will be located in a historic building that once was home to the Fort Bend Telephone Company. Officers of the Fort Bend County Republican Party formed a search committee for the relocation effort and researched opportunities throughout Fort Bend. The committee landed in the Historic Downtown area with an affordable, centrally located option in Rosenberg. Plans for the new headquarters include the normal functions of party headquarters, now with both year around and daily access to the community. “We want to reach out into the community and offer informative events on a variety of topics such as financial planning, parenting and volunteerism,” said Gibson. “Ultimately, we want people to know where we are and not have the issue of constituents trying to locate us. Moving every two years or so was a challenge for us, and our new home will allow us to become a permanent resident in our county. We want to serve as a resource to the community and show the people of Fort Bend what we are all about, but most importantly, we want to be accessible.” The new headquarters is currently under renovation, and plans include a May ribbon cutting and grand opening. Plans are for the headquarters to be open Monday through Friday, staffed from 11 am to 5 pm daily with volunteers and party leaders. “I congratulate our Fort Bend County Republican Party for securing our new home in the middle of Fort Bend County,” said Pete Olson, U.S. House of Representatives, District 22. “It takes an enormous volunteer effort to maintain a headquarters year round, and I applaud the efforts of our party leaders and numerous volunteers who have worked tirelessly toward making our new headquarters a reality. This is a milestone in the history of our county party, and I look forward to the many community activities we will host at our new headquarters on behalf of our Republican vision.” The Fort Bend County Republican Party is currently seeking volunteers. High School HOT SHOT

By Joan Frances

Meet David Belleza

J

ohn Foster Dulles High School in Fort Bend Independent School District is one of the first and oldest high schools in the area. The math and science academy is advancing in its fifth year of successfully teaching the best and the brightest students. It continues to improve facilities and stay on top of changing curriculum to adequately prepare students for the future. One Dulles High School senior who is a visual and musical artist, an academic scholar and a humanitarian is David Belleza. David is an artistic student. In eighth grade, just before his freshman year, his logo design was chosen as Dulles Middle School Band’s time capsule emblem. The capsule, which is now installed on school grounds, is a legacy David will leave behind long after his Dulles High School days. David is a talented performer and a leader. He has been a member of the Dulles Marching Band all four years of his high school career. This year, David achieved the top distinction of drum major. He was also drill instructor this year and as a junior. When asked what he has achieved as drum major, David replied, “Leading the band as one of the drum majors taught me some powerful lessons. I had to always give my all while motivating my peers to do the same, and Drum Major David Belleza at the podium leading the band.

David if we did fail or have setbacks, I had to be the first to stand ourselves back up and do better.” David also plays the guitar, piano, ukulele and bassoon and writes his own music. One of his favorite hobbies is singing. He is the tenor section leader as a senior of the Dulles Varsity Choir. He enjoys his involvement in the Dulles Viking Theater Company as well. During his junior year, David performed and entertained the audience in the musical Godspell and this year, the musical Seussical. He values hard work to accomplish his goals. He said, “The hard work, dedication and determination to succeed will always be with me. That I believe.” Academically, David is at the top of his class. Almost all of his courses are Advanced Placement (AP). “Taking honors and AP classes is hard work. The classes require studying late at night for homework, challenging exams and demanding projects. On the other hand, it rewards great satisfaction. Finding out that I received good grades creates motivation to continue achieving.” David was presented with the Academic Excellence Award as a freshman and sophomore and achieved perfect attendance as a junior. He is also a member of the National Honor Society. In his free time, David enjoys playing ultimate Frisbee, cooking and baking. He devotes many hours to helping

people in need. Teens Assisting Special Kids (TASK) is an organization he feels strongly about. This group helps disabled kids by allowing them to feel good about who they are. They hold many social events for the kids, such as attending sports games, trick or treating or their own special prom. In the Red Cross Club, David teaches the youth about social issues like disease prevention and child slavery. “By helping the community, I know that my time and effort will be put into something good. I feel a contentment knowing I was able to help the less fortunate.” David also volunteers his time at various churches around Fort Bend helping at bazaars, social community projects and in mass services. Every week, David hosts and leads a small group of high school students for an hour of prayer, worship and Bible study.

David will attend college at Texas A&M University in College Station and plans to study Petroleum Engineering. With so much hard work, dedication and determination, David will continue climbing to greater heights. Congratulations and good luck as you continue your journey on the path of success.

Ask Alex A

lex Belt is a mom, business owner and all around in the know kind of gal. Friends call on her relentlessly for advice on how to plan a party and what trend is “in.” Now that we are in full graduation mode with graduation invitations rolling in, it’s time to prepare. So, we’re doing what everyone else does – asking Alex!

Q A

What is the general rule on sending graduation announcements? Who should you send them to?

When my daughter graduated from high school, we sent an announcement to all of our family members and friends of our family. In other words, we sent one to anyone who wanted to know about this accomplishment. Do not send out an announcement to just anyone. Make it special by sticking to the people who truly care for you. Also, do not send an announcement to another graduate’s family.

Q A

With the time frame of graduation being so short and everyone wanting to host parties for their graduates, what is your opinion on hosting joint parties? Is there any advice you can give on the best way to accomplish this?

A joint party is okay as long as the two graduates are friends. Some guests might not know both graduates and if they should bring a gift for both. If throwing a joint party, put on the invitation “Please do not bring gifts.” If the partygoer knows one or both of the graduates well enough, he will give a gift at a later time.

Q A

Q A Q A

I received my first graduation announcement today from a friend’s son who is graduating. Should I send cash or a gift?

Giving a cash gift as a graduation present is one of the most popular and practical gifts. A $50 cash gift is the average. However, I usually give a gift. I feel that it is a little more personal than giving money. What are some of the trendy graduation gifts this year?

College gear is always a great choice. Or, choose an item that goes along with the college the graduate plans to attend. Another popular trend is dorm items. Decorating the dorm room is all the rage! A nice wooden monogram or a picture frame to match the décor is perfect. I like to tell parents to get something their children can take with them to remind them of home and the love they have there.

Should I bring a hostess gift for someone who is throwing me a graduation party?

A hostess gift is a lovely way to thank someone for her hospitality. It does not have to be elaborate, so keep it simple. A small trinket for the home or a sweet bouquet of flowers is always nice. Most importantly, don’t forget to send her a hand-written thank you note after the party.

Exotic Crystals of India Exhibition

T

he Houston Museum of Natural Science (HMNS) at Sugar Land is bringing culture in the most priceless way to the greater community through the exhibit Crystals of India. This display is now open to the public until May 5th. “The exhibition features a never before seen collection of the most beautiful and perfectly formed natural mineral crystals found anywhere in the world,” said David Temple, Associate Curator of Paleontology at HMNS. These crystals originated from India’s Deccan Plateau, a large geologic formation that comprises most of the southern part of the country. The beds of basalt rock, within which these crystals were formed and found, were created by massive lava flows from enormous volcanic eruptions that occurred more than 65 million years ago. Some paleontologists speculate that these massive eruptions may have even accelerated the extinction of the dinosaurs at the end of the Cretaceous period. “What better way to exhibit this for the first time but in our own culturally rich and diverse community of Fort Bend?” said Adrienne Barker, Director and Chief Development Officer at HMNS at Sugar Land. For this special engagement, the exhibition hall at the HMNS at Sugar Land has been converted into a jewel box that features these exquisite mineral masterpieces in a setting much like an installation of the crown jewels. “One thing I find interesting is that such beautiful objects can be born out of a global catastrophe,” said Temple. “These crystals are formed due to the largest volcanic eruption the world has seen. The eruption lasted 30,000 years by some estimates and covered much of India in lava a mile thick.” The eruption would have affected the global climate, and the timing of the event coincides with the extinction of dinosaurs. “This event played a role in the earth’s natural history,” stated Temple. India has long An apophyllite with stilbite from the Crystals of been famous for its India exhibit.

mineral crystals and was the source of many precious gems in the ancient world. These crystals belong to a group of minerals called zeolites. They are the “best of the best” and were high-graded from a collection that has been assembled over the last several decades. Mineral collectors consider them to be “flowers” of the mineral world. “These crystals were carefully excavated from quarries throughout India over the last half century. Tens of thousands of quarry workers blasted apart – and picked through – billions of tons of rock by hand in order to preserve these breathtaking mineral treasures for our visitors to enjoy,” commented Temple. Crystals of India is organized by HMNS. Local support is provided by the City of Sugar Land and Sudha Chittaluru, M.D. “While supplies last, each person who purchases a ticket for the exhibit leaves with a beautiful zeolite mineral sample from the same localities as the exhibited specimen, which is worth much more than the ticket price,” said Barker. Speaking of history, for those who are not familiar with HMNS at Sugar Land, it is a former prison building transformed beautifully. This satellite facility of HMNS includes four permanent galleries reflecting the most popular exhibit areas of the downtown museum location. In addition to permanent exhibitions, there are a variety of compelling traveling exhibitions. A visit to HMNS at Sugar Land is always an adventure. Tickets for Crystals of India are now on sale and may be purchased online. For more information, visit the museum’s website at www.hmns.org or call 713-639-4629.

How to Improve Your

Home’s Curb Appeal T

hose who have tried to sell a home are likely familiar with the phrase “curb appeal.” Improving curb appeal involves dressing your home up in the hopes it makes a strong first impression on prospective buyers, many of whom will have a strong opinion about the property before they even get out of their cars to have a look around. A home with strong curb appeal can entice buyers who are likely to believe that a home with a well-maintained exterior is likely to have an equally impressive interior. Homeowners who want the process of selling their home to go smoothly can improve the property’s curb appeal in a number of ways, many of which don’t necessitate a substantial home improvement budget.

Get an “Edge” on Other Sellers Edging is another easy and effective way to improve curb appeal. Edge driveways, sidewalks and other walkways around the property, removing or trimming anything that is hanging over the driveway or walkways. If the boundary between your driveway and lawn is not distinct, consider installing edging materials such as stone or bricks. The edging can be level with the driveway or elevated, but keep in mind that elevated driveway edging can protect the lawn, preventing kids from riding their bicycles onto the lawn or cars from driving onto it. Adding edging is not a very difficult do-it-yourself project.

Take to the Trees

Clean Up The most effective way to improve curb appeal is to clean up the property. Many homeowners are savvy enough to remove toys and other items from the yard before showing a home, but cleaning up goes beyond removing clutter from the property. Make sure all hedges are trimmed and remove weeds, sticks and other debris from any flower beds. Lay mulch in the flower beds and garden, as mulch prevents weed growth while helping the soil retain moisture, resulting in more attractive gardens to catch a buyer’s eye.

Many homeowners grow accustomed to overgrown trees around their property and may not notice that lowhanging, unsightly branches are hiding the home from view. Buyers want to see the house, so take to the trees and trim any branches that hang too low or obscure your home.

Clean the Gutters Leaves and sticks hanging from the gutters are a red flag to buyers, who tend to associate clogged gutters with roof damage. Clean the gutters thoroughly before putting your home up for sale, and keep them clean throughout the selling process. If your property includes lots of trees, install guards to keep twigs and leaves out of the gutters.

46

Ensuring a home’s primary entryway is welcoming and well-groomed is one way homeowners can improve curb appeal.

Make the Home Accessible Through the Front Door Many homeowners enter their home through a side door or through their garage. If you fall into this category, keep in mind that prospective buyers will be entering through the front door, so make this area accessible. Clear any clutter, such as overgrown hedges, away from the front door, and consider upgrading the door handle to a more modern feature. In addition, make sure the lock on the front door doesn’t stick, forcing the realtor and buyers to immediately struggle before entering the home. You want buyers and their real estate agents to get in and out of the home as smoothly as possible.

Make Sure All Plants Are Living Dehydrated or dead plants and flowers are eyesores, and they will give buyers the impression that you didn’t pay much attention to your property. Make sure all plants are alive and thriving, and replace those that aren’t. You can replant new flowers or plants or use potted plants instead. When purchasing new plants, choose lowmaintenance varieties that appeal to buyers who want good vibrant plants but might not want to put in much work into the garden.

TRAVEL

The Ultimate Guide for the

Smart Traveler

Smart travelers will plan their itinerary in advance, alert their credit card company, send loved ones their travel itinerary and contact information and apply for TSA pre-check to get through airport security faster. If you are heading overseas, check to see if your credit card waives foreign transaction fees. Simple steps like these can save time and money, while protecting you from the unexpected. Once the itinerary is booked, Brown advises travelers to use social media and start following their airline and hotel, the city they’re traveling to and sites they plan to see. “When you connect with businesses, they’ll send you deals directly and give you great advice on what to do in the area. They can prove to be a helpful customer service resource.”

Travel Smart

W

ith Americans traveling more than ever today, both domestically and internationally, it’s important to develop smart traveling habits. Whether you are venturing around the world or road-tripping across Texas, traveling smart is a must if you want to get the most out of your vacation without spending more. According to a Bank of America survey, nine of out 10 Americans think they are smart travelers, but only 54 percent are planning their vacation itineraries in advance. Travel Channel host and expert Samantha Brown has partnered with Bank of America to provide useful travel advice and help Americans raise their travel and budget IQ.

Plan Smart

The Travel Channel’s Samantha Brown.

Brown’s first rule of smart travel is to do your homework and be prepared for any adventure. No matter how local or exotic the trip, the trick is to have all of the details worked out before leaving home. TO ADVERTISE: 281.690.4242 or www.fortbend

One of Brown’s favorite tips for travelers is to jump on flight deals when they see them. “If you see an airfare that’s within your budget, book it. Don’t wait. You could spend a lot of time and energy looking for a cheaper fare that in the end saves you 20 bucks.”

When it comes to booking the lodging, Brown recommends selecting a hotel that offers extra value in the form of free hot breakfasts, a wine and snack or a small kitchenette in the room. These perks will enhance your stay and make the trip more affordable.

Brown also recommends using credit card rewards to offset the costs of hotel and transit, as it’s one of the easiest ways to keep travel costs manageable. It’s important to make sure that your credit card rewards you for everyday purchases, the rewards don’t expire, and it has the flexibility to allow you to use the points you earned to cover all or part of your hotel and transit.

Eat Smart Creamy Italian gelato? Spicy red curry? Vacation is the perfect time for your taste buds to experience some of the world’s most exotic cuisines and local delicacies. Besides lodging, food and beverage is the biggest travel expense, particularly for millennial adventurers, but smart travelers know how to find good eats without breaking their vacation budget. For those traveling to exotic locations, explore a local marketplace and treat your taste buds to an assortment of traditional dishes. Don’t forget, depending on the country, you can sometimes haggle the market price, so don’t be afraid to try to get a bargain. If you really want to learn about local cuisine, take a cooking class and discover a new recipe to take home with you. If you’re traveling with a large group and especially if you have kids, plan ahead of time and request a prix fixe menu at a restaurant. That way, you can avoid confusion over splitting the bill and sticker shock when the waiter comes by with the check. Smart travelers reap the benefits of using a travel rewards credit card when paying for large vacation meals.

Budget Smart In order to keep your travel budget low, it’s important to take advantage of every resource available to help offset costs. The Bank of America survey shows that 53 percent of Americans are already saving money on travel by pre-planning vacations months in advance, 44 percent are traveling in the off-peak season, and 41 percent are utilizing websites to find travel discounts. Another way to budget is to pick a destination based on where family or friends are located, so you have a place to stay and are able to cut out lodging costs, a method popular among millennials. Don’t forget to take advantage of credit card rewards programs. Thirty-seven percent of Americans – nearly two out of five – own travel reward credit cards, but 27 percent don’t know how many points or miles they’ve accumulated. Keep on top of travel rewards points, and don’t forget they are a valuable asset to vacation budgeting and can be more flexible than you might expect. The BankAmericard Travel Rewards card lets travelers use points to offset the costs of activities as unique as visiting a theme park or swimming with dolphins. Fort Bend Cares Spokesdog Rain and her owner Laura Winters.

Meet Rain, Fort Bend Cares spokesdog for the 2nd Annual Doggone Fun Run scheduled for Saturday, April 11th, at Memorial Park in Sugar Land. A black lab mix, Rain was adopted from Sugar Land Animal Services on May 8, 2012 by the Winters Family. She is approximately seven-yearsold. Although underweight and infected with hookworms and heartworms upon arrival at the shelter, Rain is now healthy and loves life! No stranger to adversity herself, Rain is “pawsitively” excited to help spread the word about the Fort Bend Cares Doggone Fun Run to raise funds to support non-profit organizations that serve disadvantaged children and youth in Fort Bend County. This year, to show support of our fourlegged friends as well, Fort Bend Cares will donate a small portion of proceeds from this event to the Sugar Land Animal Services shelter. The Doggone Fun Run includes a competitive chip timed 5K run without dogs and a 5K Run and a 1 mile Fun Run/ Walk with or without dogs, so there is something for everyone and every dog! There will be medals for age group winners of the competitive 5K Run, along with prizes for winners of the “canine costume competition.” Come early and stay late to peruse vendor booths, enjoy DJ music, learn tips from a local dog trainer and more. Early registration is $25 per person or $75 for a family of three or more. Each registrant will receive a t-shirt and a bandana for their favorite dog. On race day, t-shirts and bandanas are only available while supplies last. Dog owners must ensure canine participants are on a non-retractable leash and must show proof of current rabies vaccination. Mark your calendars and join Rain for some Doggone Fun at Memorial Park in Sugar Land! Visit www.fortbendcares.org, e-mail info@fortbendcares. org or call 832-819-2005 for event registration, more information or to become a sponsor.

Seek Relief for Back Pain

Y

our back is like a hard-working machine. It gives strength to movements and supports most of your weight. With all of this work to do, it’s no wonder the back is prone to injury and strain. Four out of five adults will experience at least one episode of back pain in their lifetimes.

Jeffrey Wood, M.D.

“Back pain is experienced by both the young and old, but the risk of developing it increases with age,” said Dr. Jeffrey Wood, board certified orthopedic spine surgeon at Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital Neuroscience and Spine Center. “Back ailments can stem from a variety of sources, including heavy lifting, improper sports or exercise techniques, sitting hunched over a desk or being overweight.” Conditions such as a herniated disc, muscle spasms, arthritis and scoliosis can also contribute to back pain. Depending on the source of your back problem, you may experience acute pain, lasting no longer than a few weeks, or chronic pain, lasting for months or

years. Whether the pain is intense or a slight throbbing, it’s important to seek a treatment option that’s right for you. Minor back ailments, primarily those associated with strains and spasms, can be successfully treated at home with a combination of hot and cold compresses, rest and anti-inflammatory medications. “Although you may be tempted to spend a few days in bed recuperating, this isn’t the best solution,” said Dr. Wood. “To help maintain back strength and movement, try to keep up with your regular activities.” If the pain is severe or disabling, a spine specialist can perform an exam to determine the source of the discomfort and prescribe a treatment plan that may include physical therapy, injections or surgery to relieve pain. The main goal of treatment is to help you live a pain-free life. Follow these four steps to prevent back pain. • Watch your weight. A few extra pounds on your frame can cause added stress on your back and muscles. Losing the weight in a healthy manner can help keep back pain at bay. • Stay active. Exercising regularly is the best way to keep your back in working shape. Strong, toned muscles provide proper cushioning for everyday movements.

• Put out the cigarettes. Smokers may have more difficulty recovering from a back ailment, because their oxygen levels are reduced. • Be aware of how you move. Your mother may have told you to “stand up straight.” Her advice was true. Good posture, whether sitting, standing or lifting, keeps your back in alignment. Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital Neuroscience and Spine Center’s board certified physicians work together to provide comprehensive, personalized care, designed to help patients return to a productive lifestyle. They offer expedited appointments, including second opinions, with their highly regarded specialists. To schedule an appointment with Dr. Jeffrey Wood or another specialist, call 281-274-7979 or e-mail neuroscience@ houstonmethodist.org.

Free Back and Neck Pain Seminar Whether you’ve had back or neck pain for a few days or several long years, join Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital on Thursday, April 30th at 6 pm at Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital’s Conference Center. Dr. Jeffrey Wood will present the latest information on surgical and non-surgical treatment options and address any questions. Registration is required. Register online at houstonmethodist.org/events or call 281-274-7500.

Finest in Medicine Caring for women with pelvic floor disorders...

Incontinence: When and Why Should I See a Doctor? Incontinence is any involuntary leakage of urine. It is a very common problem and affects millions of women. The good news is that incontinence is easily treatable. Incontinence is not a normal part of aging and should not be a social stigma. Treatment can improve the quality of life. Stress incontinence is the leakage of urine with cough, sneeze, lifting or jumping. It can be treated by physical therapy and surgery. Surgery is minimally invasive, done through small incisions and can be done as an outpatient with very positive results. An overactive bladder is characterized by the urgency, frequency and leakage of urine. There is a sudden, strong desire to go to the bathroom, and leakage may occur before reaching the bathroom. An overactive bladder can be treated mainly with medicines and behavioral changes. Prolapse occurs when female organs “drop” and cause pressure or bulge. Prolapse can be of the bladder, uterus, vagina or rectum, and it can be treated with pessary or surgery. Incontinence and prolapse are very common problems affecting millions of women and can be easily treated. A urogynecologist takes care of women with incontinence and prolapse, and patients do very well after treatment. Beautiful Beginnings: Taking Care of Newborns In March, OakBend Medical Center delivered triplets at its Williams Way location. The first triplets born at that hospital. The tiny babies were placed in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for the first few days of their lives while they made the adjustment from the womb to the real world. Choosing where to have a baby is an important decision. OakBend Medical Center provides comprehensive, intensive and progressive care for premature infants and critically ill newborns with respiratory distress and infections. The NICU features the most technologically advanced equipment to care for a new baby. OakBend’s goal is to help both mother and babies go home to begin their new lives as soon as possible. Research has shown that the more time and attention Mom and the newborns receive, the faster the healing process can begin. Having friends and family spend time at Mom’s bedside or interacting with the babies, giving support and love, can decrease the time spent in the hospital. The Level II NICU is designed to care for babies born as early as 28 weeks. And, with the increase in multiple births, the Unit needs to expand from its current ability to accommodate eight babies to being able to accommodate twelve. On October 15th, OakBend Medical Center’s signature fundraiser, Patchwork of Life, will raise monies to expand the NICU. The fundraiser will be held at Safari Texas from 6:30 to 9:30 pm. This year’s honoree is Pat Hebert with Joe and Doris Gurecky serving as honorary chairs. For more information, visit www. oakbendmedcenter.org or call 281341-2000.

Quality Care from Dr. Elissa Wedemeyer Dr. Elissa Wedemeyer has been practicing optometry in Missouri City for the last 26 years. In this span of time, there have been many changes in the ability to provide care for the eyes in medications, contact lenses, eye glass lenses, frames and the equipment to detect and analyze debilitating eye diseases. Much research has been done recently in preventing the loss of vision due to the normal aging process and the early onset of damage caused by the harmful blue light exposure from light emitting digital (LED) technology. The Age Related Eyes Disease Study (AREDS 1 and 2) shows that certain supplements containing antioxidants, lutein, zeaxanthin, zinc and other minerals can help prevent and in some cases, reverse the damage of the eyes due to environmentally caused macular degeneration. Blue light not only causes cataracts and macular degeneration but also plays havoc on a person’s circadian rhythms. A person’s pineal gland secretes melatonin, a hormone that reduces alertness and helps them to become sleepy. Those using LED screens before going to sleep in the forms of cell phones, computers and flat screen televisions are receiving the blue light emissions that awake and alert the brain, thus shutting down the release of melatonin. This is especially harmful to younger LED users, who will spend a lifetime being exposed to damaging blue light. There are now supplements and eyeglass lenses to help with the prevention of loss of vision due to prolonged exposure. For more information or to arrange an appointment with Dr. Wedemeyer, call 281-499-2600 or visit www.drwedemeyer.com.

Advanced Foot and Ankle Specialists Adults, children and seniors choose Advanced Foot and Ankle Specialists for personal, quality care. With multiple board certifications in foot surgery, Dr. Bryan Lee uses the most current techniques to reduce downtime and heal with minimal scarring. Heel pain is the most common complaint from Dr. Lee’s patients. It impacts their ability to exercise and sometimes can cause so much discomfort that they are unable to get out of bed. Treatment for heel pain ranges from simple stretching techniques to surgery. Custom Orthotics, physical therapy, injections and medication can also help. Finest in Medicine Dr. Amitabh Shukla Are you one of the thousands of Americans who suffer from a disease condition referred to as peripheral neuropathy? Peripheral neuropathy is a disorder of the peripheral nerves characterized by a tingling or burning sensation, weakness, muscle aches or cramps and difficulties with balance. At times, the condition is characterized by dizziness, sexual dysfunction or change in blood pressure, especially in the upright position. The disorder generally has a gradual onset and slow progression. A typical description of the tingling and numbness is in a “glove and stocking” fashion that is mainly in the lower legs and distal aspects of the upper extremities. Tingling sensations or burning pains are very common symptoms with peripheral neuropathy predominantly due to involvement of the sensory nerves. However, in advanced cases, motor nerves are also involved, where weakness and gait difficulties can also be predominant. In many cases, a strong family history is noteworthy. However, many other cases may not have any underlying cause contributing to the disease. It is important to have a formal neurological evaluation and a careful search for correctable causes such as diabetes mellitus, renal failure, disorder of thyroid glands, exposure to drugs and toxins or heavy metals, like arsenic, lead, mercury or thallium, industrial solvents or pesticides, vitamin deficiencies or any underlying malignancies or tumors, which can also be associated with peripheral neuropathy. Dr. Amitabh Shukla is board certified in Neurology, Electromyography, Sleep Medicine and Vascular Neurology. Do You Have Dental Anxiety? According to Wikipedia, it is estimated that as many as 75 percent of adults in the United States experience some degree of dental fear. Many of these people feel the need to be sedated in order to see their dentist. Those who have any amount of dental anxiety will want to experience the new Chill N Go System at C & C Dental. In three minutes, three easy and safe natural elements will calm down and even eliminate anxiety. As a matter of fact, the more anxious a person is, the better it works. First, patients take a natural supplement that naturally relaxes them, but they can still drive home. Everyone has this supplement naturally in their bodies. Second, they wear headphones that play sounds to encourage the brain into a meditative state. It is not music but sounds that induce relaxation by changing the brainwaves. Third, they activate the gentle massage that is built into the dental chair like those that might be seen at a nail salon. It enhances the headphone sounds to induce meditation and further relax them. The combination of these three things reduces anxiety in three minutes. Finally, there is something natural that truly helps anxiety, and it doesn’t involve drugs or that “drugged” feeling afterward. Your first experience of this new Chill N Go System is free and only offered at C & C Dental. Call 281-242-0241, and make your dental fear go away today! See ad on page 9.

Fifteen representatives from the program traveled to Austin as part of CASA Day at the Capitol, the one day each legislative session that the CASA community assembles to bring attention to improving outcomes for children and youth in the foster care system. The Child Advocates of Fort Bend team met with its local Texas legislators, including Senators Rodney Ellis, Joan Huffman, Lois Kohlkorst and Larry Taylor and Representatives Coleman Garnet, Rick Miller, Ron Reynold, Phil Stephenson and John Zerwas, to discuss policy priorities to improve issues in the state’s child welfare system identified by the Sunset Commission and to promote the well-being of children and youth in care. “Traveling to Austin and meeting with our state leaders in the Capitol during the legislative session is empowering,” said Ruthanne Mefford, chief executive officer for Child Advocates of Fort Bend. “We get the opportunity to speak up on behalf of the children we serve and ask

2015 HYUNDAI GENESIS T

he Hyundai Genesis sedan underwent a complete and spectacular transformation for the 2015 model year. This total redesign is the reason the new Genesis can now take its place amongst the best in the mid-size luxury sedan segment. If you are familiar with the cars this Korean automaker has made in the past, this latest luxury entry may just blow you away. This is one of the best new cars in showrooms today. Hyundai cars were introduced into the U.S. market back in 1986, and they were notable mostly by their alluringly low purchase price. Unfortunately, that price came with poor build quality, which then led to reliability issues that became the butt of jokes. Luckily for us, the designers and engineers at

Hyundai took notice and began a program focused on higher quality and stylish design. That laser focus on rebuilding the reputation of this Korean automaker has paid off in recent model years across its lineup. And now, the Genesis gets to enjoy the benefits of the Hyundai magic makers. Last year’s model, which was introduced in 2009, seemed to be a thinly veiled copy of a Lexus GS. But, this new Genesis sedan is ready to stand on its own four wheels with a bold new grill that sets it apart from the past. High-quality interior materials rival the best Japanese and German luxury cars, along with an updated design and a larger navigation screen. A center button controller common to more expensive luxury cars allows you to maneuver the infotainment console while driving. What will entice so many new car buyers to take a close look at the 2015 Genesis is its base MSRP of only $38,000. For this price, you get the standard rear-wheel drive powertrain consisting of a 311 hp, 3.8 liter engine

mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. EPA fuel estimates are an impressive 18 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. The Genesis is also available with all-wheel drive or with 420 hp, 5.0 liter, V8 engine. The overall driving impression is a car that’s built more for smooth and comfortable highway drives as opposed to tearing around mountain curves. The new Genesis is going to change the way the car buying public thinks about Hyundai. This is a quality product, beautifully designed and fun to drive. Don’t shortchange yourself by passing it by. Living the Sweet Life:

A Beautiful Responsibility I

really like wearing a cape – figuratively speaking, of course – and given the opportunity to be a superhero at any time in my life has, and I am sure will continue to be, ideal. Now, my time has come! Many already know that as the children have grown in my family client base, they have attached the name “Auntie A” to me. It is a name of endearment, and through it, I have a furthered sense of belonging to a great extended family. I rather love that a small child would name me and want to share their thoughts and greater still, as a teen, actually listen. This has been a long journey in the making. I can argue, because I am old enough now to win the argument, that although children need us to rear them at all ages, it is imperative that they have an adult in whom they confide during the teen years. These special years are the most difficult to navigate because of puberty, and now, with what I call the “social media situation,” it’s just plain scary. Teaching them what to do and what not to do is an enormous task and a beautiful responsibility. I try to be hip and not seem like an old “fuddy duddy.” That is probably why I know a lot about what all of my children are doing, and the questions they have usually get asked openly on a multitude of subjects. Even so, I am not stupid enough to think for a minute they are not doing what children do, which is test limits and try things on for size. Parenting is different at every age and stage, but being trusted and confided in takes time. Through my talks with teens, I have come to realize that many do not understand the importance of manners and the future impact of their social behaviors. It might surprise you that most teens do not know how to balance a checkbook or understand that all of their texts will come back to haunt them. Deep down, each of them is looking for solid advice, just not from their parents, so that they can make sense of their world and tough decisions. TO ADVERTISE: 281.690.4242 or www.fortbend

Recently, I did a little research to see if I could find a place where teens could go to learn about what to do, what not to do and to ask questions. I found a bunch of etiquette about businesses. I, of course, also found all of the old stuff about setting a table, but what do kids do when they are being bullied? What do they do when someone is pressuring them to do something they do not want to do? Those subjects were next to impossible to find advice and solid facts in an interesting and relatable way. With our lives increasingly influenced by the “social media situation,” it is surprising that this is not taught in our schools. And, all at once, I caught a glimpse of my cape. Over the past several months, even years, I have been transforming into the superhero that I have always known I could be – and should be. With the encouragement of my daughter and agent, I have developed a show called Auntie A Says. It airs on my Youtube channel by the same name, and I have developed a weekly episode with a year’s worth of content for our youth. I am excited to tell you right from wrong in a world that has all but forgotten basic etiquette. I feel like I have transformed fully into the name given to me by our children. Mostly, I hope that I will be able to influence many more children through social media to make their world a better place. Take Care of YOU!

Texas Direct Auto Teams Up with the Sugar Land Skeeters Again in 2015 Since their inaugural season in 2012, the Sugar Land Skeeters have captured the hearts of Sugar Land residents and baseball-lovers throughout the Greater Houston area. In turn, the organization has fostered partnerships with pillars of the Fort Bend county community for years to come. One such pairing is with Stafford-based Texas Direct Auto, the world’s largest independent auto dealership, who is proud to team up with the Skeeters again for the fourth consecutive year. Our goal? To help make the 2015 season the best yet. “Our theme for the 2015 season is a #SaLute2fans,” said Chris Jones, General Manager of the Sugar Land Skeeters. “Partners like Texas Direct Auto are ideal for our organization, because they understand the value of a loyal fan, and can help us spread our message of ‘Thanks’ into the communities we both serve.” As a founding sponsor, Texas Direct Auto has a noticeable presence at the Constellation Field. The Texas Direct Auto message is featured prominently along the Skeeters bullpen and inside the “Buzz Shop,” where every purchase of $50 or more in Skeeters merchandise earns fans a free t-shirt. In addition to sponsoring two Skeeters Entitlement games, Texas Direct Auto will have some fun freebies to giveaway to all fans during several Skeeters home Games. You can’t miss the Texas Direct Auto fully-customized bullpen cart, shaped like a vintage baseball, that they donated in 2012. Skeeters fans will want to mark their calendars for Entitlement games hosted by Texas Direct Auto this year. On Saturday, May 16th, Texas Direct Auto will give away the fourth edition of their coveted, collectible youth jerseys to the first 2,000 attendees. Don’t forget to bring the whole family out on June 27, 2015 for Bark in the Park, another special event presented by Texas Direct Auto. Texas Direct Auto’s Director of New Business Development, Jessica DeMarr, is looking forward to another great season in 2015, saying, “Texas Direct Auto is proud to be a founding partner for our 4th consecutive year. It is a joy to watch fans of all ages cheer on the Skeeters. Win or lose it’s about having fun-GO SKEETERS!” For more information visit www.sugarlandskeeters.com.
