WHAT IS CHRONIC PAIN? Chronic Pain Pain without apparent biological value that persists beyond normal tissue healing has been defined as chronic pain. In layman language "Pain that persist more than 3 months after an injury and beyond is called, chronic pain.

Pain Syndrome It is defined as a complex interaction of physical, psychological, emotional and social components. Consequently, the evaluation and management of chronic pain requires a long term relationship and an investment of time beyond which is normally available to pain physician.

Aetiology Among chronic pain disorders, pain arising from the back bone constitutes the majority of the problems. The lifetime prevalence of spinal pain has been reported as 54% to 80%. Studies of the prevalence of low back pain and neck pain and its impact in general have shown 23% of patients reporting Grade II to IV low back pain.
