Welcome to the 2016 Running Network Media Kit. We’ve gone through a lot of changes in the past two years. In 2013, after having run the Running Network for nine years, I bought out my partners and now run RN myself. I’d recovered from a visit to the emergency room in May 2013, finding that I had diabetes 2. After I left the hospital, I couldn’t walk down the block and was taking insulin four times a day plus a diabetic medication. But I didn’t want to live the rest of my life on medication. So I stopped my daily alcohol intake, changed my eating habits, and began walking 3–6 miles a day. By mid-2014, I was off insulin and the medication, managing my diabetes through exercise, nutrition, and actually sleeping. During this time, I changed my work habits. What I wanted to do was develop great content and sell advertising to partners who understood and shared my dreams. In 2014, we focused on two footwear partners and helped build their businesses by listening to them. Using the strengths of my partner pubs and websites (18 pubs and 24 sites at the start of 2014, now 25 pubs and 44 sites), we improved our content, developed a new calendar software program, and are in the process of updating our websites and social media. With 44 members, we have websites and social media, plus print and digital magazines. The idea is to provide runners, wherever they are, with tools to make their running and walking a better experience and help them act locally, but read globally. FoRTIUS Media Group, llc is our company. It comes from the basketball cheer of a French university basketball team, “Citius, Altius, Fortius,” from the imagination of a Jesuit priest in 1892. Pierre de Coubertin, founder of the modern olympic movement, used the same cheer for his renewed modern olympics dream. FoRTIUS Media Group develops global and national content for its partners and sells national and global advertising—print, digital, and social for its partners. We focus on running worldwide. Why? Successful marketing in running always uses multiplatform approaches. We always use social media, mobile approaches, and digital media, but we also are not afraid to use print and posters. Runners are creatures of habit. Seeing branding in social media, digital and print reinforces your advertising. That’s why we do RunBlogRun.com, our blog of note. our live events coverage is available on mobile, on the web, and on any digital device. The Shoe Addicts, our digital partners, develop sponsored video for our readers with subjects near and dear to them. Running Network TV, our trailblazing video chronicler of all things running, has been producing video for nearly a decade. our regional magazines (we have 15 of them) work with local running stores, clubs, and races to enhance a runner’s relationship with her or his community. Club Running, the second largest running magazine in North America, is the official pub of the RRCA, with 2,500 running clubs. Last year, the RRCA insured 9,000 races for 4.5 million runners. Track & Field News is the bible of the sport, a revered resource for global athletics. American Track & Field helps coaches develop their 1.4 million high school athletes so that they can be ranked in that same publication. Youth Runner is our innovative multimedia approach to young runners, reaching 200,000 or so 12-17-year-olds. In the fitness area, we work with 7,500 health clubs in the U.S. through their trainers and club managers. With Physical magazine, we work with 250,000 fitness enthusiasts, helping them get the most out of their running 1–2 days a week. We partner with the two most historic clubs in the country, NYAC in the Big Apple and Multnomah Athletics Club in Portland, oR, the two clubs that had the most participants in the U.S. on the first olympic team—in 1896! Running cultures are diverse. From high school runners, to college runners, to adult core and fitness runners, to fitness enthusiasts who run once a week, the Running Network has a site, and perhaps a magazine, that reaches the community you are targeting. We continue to evolve daily review of running shoes via RunningProductReviews.com, the site where our editor of all things footwear, Cregg Weinmann, who has been with us over two decades, places his reviews and opinions. We are grassroots. We are shoe geeks. We understand that running is not just a state of mind—it’s transformative. We understand that running is changing, morphing, and evolving. We also understand that if you want to sell running products, then you have to reach out to the prolific purchasers and the key influencers, the 10% who influence the other 90%. Join FoRTIUS Media Group and its Running Network partners to reach out to the colorful and diverse running community. Let us help make your marketing plans a huge success! Ask us how.

Established in 1998, the Running Network shoe reviews and features provide our readers with independent editorial reviews of the top running footwear 6 times a year (January, March, May, July, September, November). The larger Spring and Fall reviews focus on performance running/training footwear. The reviews in January and July focus on trail shoes, the May review features the best shoes under $80, and reviews of Summer and Winter running shoes (Q2 and Q4) are also part of our reviews. For our prep titles, we also review cross country racing shoes, track spikes, team apparel, and youth running shoes. The shoe reviews are 2–6 pages long. RN footwear and apparel reviewer Cregg Weinmann manages a team of 350 weartesters who are rigorously tested by a podiatrist to determine the correct shoe category for their involvement. The weartesters compile both anecdotal and quantitive results on a proprietary website developed by Weinmann and his team, using a unique software application. The writeups are based on this information as well as Weinmann’s own examination. The projects are coordinated and edited by Christine Johnson, and the final reviews are provided to our publications for inclusion. We present the reviews as the starting point of each runner’s journey to find the perfect running shoes for them. once they’ve checked out our reviews, we encourage them to visit their local specialty running store to give the shoes a test run. We support the Independent Running Retailers Association (IRRA). our reviews are also available at runnningnetwork.com as well, a new feature of regular new-product reviews.

RUNNING NETWORK TELEVISION CHANNEL The Running Network Television Channel (runningnetwork.com/rntv) was officially launched in April 2008. During the past 7 years, the channel has provided national and international programming to hundreds of thousands of viewers. The goal of the RN TV Channel is to provide behind-the-scenes coverage for our readers of events large and small in the sport. In 2015, we covered events as diverse as the Michigan State Cross Country meet to the Boston, Chicago, and New York marathons, 2015 USA Indoor and Outdoor Championships, and the World Championships in Beijing. We were especially proud of our coverage of the U.S. Track & Field Olympic Trials, which generated over 100,000 viewers during the event. Our reporters included Larry Eder and Jennie McCafferty of the Running Network, as well as Olympians Paul McMullen and Gary Morgan.
