Recreation, classes & clubs

• Free gaming areas at Grandstaff Library at Lewis Main and McChord Library at McChord Field. Also choose from thousands of games to check out and play at home.

• Free monthly summer movies through September outside of Book Patch Children’s Library.

• Free indoor swimming (and outdoor swimming through the summer), splash parks, skate park, group fitness classes and basketball courts. See the fitness and swimming schedules at JBLMsfa.com.

• Free language courses online, available to JBLM library patrons.

• Free Lego clubs, book clubs and craft clubs at your JBLM libraries.

• Free children’s storytimes at McChord and Book Patch Children’s libraries.

• Free movies, gaming, tourneys, live televised events and special appearances for DOD ID card holders ages 18 and older at Warrior Zone.

Festivals keep you happy

Who else can boast exclusive festivals for the entire JBLM community to enjoy? We’re coming back more determined to give our community all-out fun! In April, we capped off Month of the Military Child at our annual Kids’ Fest with free bowling, giveaways, carnival games, a gaming tournament and more.

This month, we’re celebrating our community at JBLM Reunited’s main event Saturday, Aug. 28 with free entertainment and food for purchase. We’re planning more events that unite us in the spirit of fun!

Chance to purchase discount Seahawks game tickets

Get your chance to purchase Seattle Seahawks home game tickets at Leisure Travel Services! Put your name in for the drawing for ticket sales Aug. 9–27 at LTS (inside Northwest Adventure Center at Lewis North or Adventures Unlimited at McChord Field).

The drawing will start at 11 a.m. at the Saturday, Aug. 28 JBLM Reunited event at Cowan and Memorial stadiums. Ticket sales for drawing winners will be held Wednesday, Sept. 1. All remaining tickets will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis.

Earn up to $2,000 a month at home

Looking for a fun, rewarding job at home while you live on base? Become a Family Child Care provider and make a difference in the lives of JBLM children and their families.

FCC providers can earn up to $2,000 a month, may qualify for subsidies and receive pay for additional professional training, plus free resources for your home business. If you’re a first-time provider, you also may qualify for a $1,000 recruitment bonus for opening your home.

Interested? The next FCC orientation is being held Tuesday, Aug. 10, 6–8 p.m. Call the FCC office at 253-967-3039 to register or find out more about becoming an FCC provider.

Vehicle resale lot & car care

Need some wheels fast for not a lot of cash? Find a deal from a JBLM vehicle resale lot — trucks, motorcycles, cars and RVs at Lewis Main and McChord Field. Many vehicles are priced at used blue-book values (look for printouts on vehicle windows) and owners are often willing to negotiate.

Also find car care classes at McChord Auto Center to keep your vehicle in tip-top shape for just the cost of supplies. For more information, call 253-982-7226.

Volunteer & earn points

Volunteering at JBLM allows you to explore new career fields or update your existing skills and accumulate experience.

It’s also a wonderful opportunity to meet others who are active participants in the JBLM community.

You’ll receive free training, can earn service award points (for military promotions) and are provided worker’s compensation (as a statutory volunteer).

If you volunteer as a youth sports coach for Child & Youth Services, you may receive household credit (call 253-967-2405 for details).

If you’re a single Service member, join Better Opportunities for Single Service members at JBLM (call 253-967-5636 for details).

While we do offer so many free opportunities, we need to charge for some services or activities to cover operating costs. But every penny you spend goes directly back into MWR funds that keep your families employed and activities open — a worthy investment in your own community.
