A little about us
Mr. Hugh Mason ran a small store in St James’ Market, and Mr. William Fortnum, who was quite the entrepreneur, took a post as Footman in Queen Anne’s household. Queen Anne insisted on new candles every day, and Mr. Fortnum had the ingenious idea of selling the half-used candle wax. This paved the way for the beginning of our business.
Once the pair joined forces, such early innovation set the tone for more than 300 years of playfulness and creativity.
Today, we are home to extraordinary food, joy-giving things, unforgettable experiences and exceptional service. Fortnum's has established itself as a pioneering global retail and hospitality institution and millions from around the world visit our flagship store in Piccadilly to enjoy our wonderful bars and restaurants, and explore our famous food, gift and fragrance halls. Our beautiful building is a corner shop that has seen it all.

Guided by seasonally led food cycles, we source the naturally exquisite and partner with only the most innovative food and drink makers.
Since 2008, we’ve kept our own honeybees in rooftop hives across London, grown our own herbs and vegetables in our sky-high allotment, and even smoked our own salmon up there too.
And when all is said and done, we are a food experience business. Whether it’s to serve in our restaurants or to include in our hampers, or providing the very best cookshop, tools and ingredients, everything we do is focussed on making truly memorable occasions.
And we’re the home of the Hamper
Over the years these portable parcels of joy have travelled to all corners of the globe.
They began as travellers' baskets and picnics for hunters and have since scaled the heights of Everest, supplied provisions at the excavation of Tutankhamun, been praised by Charles Dickens, devoured by generations of Prime Ministers and more recently they embarked on a 10,000mile journey across 23 countries on the top of a very old Land Rover.
Hand-crafted from willow grown in sustainable wetlands, our baskets are finished with the Fortnum & Mason stamp of approval.

Named in honour of Fortnum's address in London's Piccadilly, 181 is a unique new dining destination that brings our 315 years of food and drink expertise to Hong Kong for the first time.
Set within Victoria Dockside’s pioneering cultural hub of K11 MUSEA, our beautiful bar and dining room serves up a specially curated, innovative and seasonal menu across lunch, Afternoon Tea and dinner, as diners enjoy stunning views of Hong Kong Island across the water.
Available for Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Cocktails & Canapés–hosting your event at 181 is always an experience to remember. Our expert team and in-house chefs are here to look after you with whatever you need, whenever you need it.

A Fortnum’s Bespoke Tea Blending Experience
Our Bespoke Tea Blending Service; a palate-personalised experience, expertly guided by our tearistas allows you and your guests to create a blend uniquely your own, or a gift for a friend.
Through our years of experimentation and refinement, our tearistas have meticulously curated every possible flavour combination to ensure the highest quality in every cup - so you can be sure that whatever blend you create, it’ll always be Fortnum’s delicious quality.
With the opportunity to add a name onto the tea tin itself, it makes for the ultimate personalised gift and unique experience.
Our tearistas will share knowledge on the history of tea, and guide guests step-by-step in creating their own personalised blend.
This experience can also be combined with a delicious meal at 181, or a private retail store buy out.
Tea Master Class & Tea Pairing Workshop
Tea is way of life at Fortnum’s. We have a long-standing history as tea pioneers, and today offer more varieties from more countries than ever. We’ve always been the place to come for the season’s first arrivals and more countries means more seasons to enjoy.
Lead by our Tea Sommelier, we can deliver a Tea Master Class or Pairing Workshop on site in our beautiful 181 Restaurant, or in your office
We will walk through the tea history, tea etiquette and how to brew a perfect cup of tea. We can also include a delicious pairing, or other product of your choice, such as buttery biscuits, mid-autumn mooncakes or a full Afternoon Tea pairing.
We can also include a take home gift for guests so they can continue the joy of brewing a cup of Fortnum’s tea at home
Champagne & Wine Tasting
An elevated champagne or wine tasting event where guests can sample a selection of fine champagnes and wines, paired with our delicious food.
From small intimate groups, to larger corporate affairs, our experienced team will provide insights into tasting notes, and tips for pairing these beverages with food.
This can be held at our beautiful bar, with scrumptious bar snacks to compliment the drinks, as a private seated dinner with pairing menu or as a standing event in our retail store, with delectable food stations.
Guests will also have the exclusive opportunity to purchase the showcased wines at special prices, allowing your guests to take a piece of the evening's discoveries home with you.
Mixology Master Class
Lead by Fortnum’s Head Bar Tender, enjoy an immersive mixology class at our beautiful 181 bar. This exclusive, intimate event is not available to the public and we can create a bespoke experience based on your requirements.
We can work with flavours suited to your theme such as Tea Pairing Cocktails or Sustainable Cocktails. We have a wide range of spirits, including our very own carefully crafted Fortnum’s London Dry Gin and Fortnum’s Spirit of Oolong Wu Yi Tea Vodka.
Guests can enjoy a selection of our delicious bar snacks, including our world-famous Scotch Egg, to keep them fuelled during the session.
In Store Events
Private Retail Store Event
We offer bespoke, private events in store with Fortnum’s history storytelling, tasting experience stations, beverages and more. Enjoy the entire store to yourself.
Each theme and activation can be tailor made to suit your event. From private previews of new collections, wine tasting, to guests enjoying a beef wellington carving station. We are here to help you delight your clients and guests with a VIP private event.
We also offer exclusive shopping privileges for guests on the night as well as a take home gift.

From our luxurious Afternoon Tea, featuring exceptional rare teas, moreish scones and flavoursome finger sandwiches, to our perfect picnics containing fresh food feasts and toastworthy tipples. We can work with you to bring the Joy of Fortnum’s to your external events. We can also prepare bespoke tea blends for the event as well as goodie bags for the guests.
Offsite Tea Tasting & Pairings
Our expert Tearistas can come to a location of your choice to host an intimate pairing experience.
They will share information on the history of tea, tea etiquette and how to brew a perfect cup of tea.
We can also include a delicious pairing, or other product of your choice, from irresistible buttery biscuits to our tea infused Mooncakes
