With our more than 100 varieties of saltwater and freshwater fish and shellfish, the world of seafood is your oyster. Shipments are flown to Texas from places all over the world, including Hawaii, Ecuador, and Maine. We buy only from strictly regulated fisheries committed to sustainable practices, and we inspect each piece at the door. Whenever possible, our fish has been out of water only 48 hours prior to arrival. Then our fishmongers expertly cut fillets and steaks from whole fish for amazingly fresh results.

Local Legends a and the a

Dining Out Capital of the U.S.

T

wenty Tarrant County restaurants have been featured on various culinary TV shows from Diners, DriveIns & Dives to Best Thing I Ever Ate. A few Top Chef contestants have set up shop in Fort Worth since appearing on the reality show, so what is it about North Texas that creates this excellent culinary environment?

28

| eats: local food guide | 2013

Diners in the Dallas/Fort Worth area eat out more often than residents of any other major city or metroplex with 70 percent more restaurant transactions than the national average. Residents also spend 12 percent more than average each time they open a menu. The combination of eating out 3.6 days

a week and paying more per meal results in local diners spending about 91 percent more on eating out than the average U.S. household each month. Other North Texas cities including Plano and Austin prove to have healthy dining out appetites as well making Texas the unofficial capital of U.S. dining out culture.

Within walking distance from UTA and less than a mile from both Cowboys Stadium and the Rangers Ballpark, downtown Arlington is growing each year and becoming a hot spot for locals and visitors alike. While offering restaurants, retailers, spas and much more, the area is quickly gaining a reputation as a smaller version of Austin. Arlington was founded in 1875 on the Texas and Pacific Railway as a market town for surrounding farms. Originally named Hayter, the city was re-named in 1877 after General Robert E. Lee’s Arlington House (in present-day Arlington County, Virginia). Arlington is in the middle of the metropolitan area, halfway between Dallas and Fort Worth and just eight miles from the Dallas-Fort Worth Airport. Arlington has

experienced rapid growth since 1970, with more than 356,000 people now calling Arlington home. The city also welcomes more than 6.5 million visitors annually. Within the last several years, the family friendly downtown area has expanded rapidly with several new restaurants and businesses providing ample entertainment and shopping opportunities. The city of Arlington is working on a plan to keep adding to the beauty of the area and will continue to make improvements during the next few years. With Levitt Pavilion, Six Flags, Arlington Music Hall, Cowboys Stadium, and The Ballpark at Arlington all within a two mile radius of each other, there are always new faces enjoying the area along with UTA students and local residents. Go check it out.
