After Makeover

Make your OLD kitchen a NEW kitchen for a fraction of the cost of buying a new kitchen

Happy Kitchens completely renovated our kitchen, transformed two wardrobes and built us a lovely cupboard in our storage room. Ben was really enthusiastic during our initial consultations and extremely helpful with assisting us with our choices. He was also very accommodating when we changed our minds on a couple of elements during the process. Dan, our main fitter, could not have been more professional, flexible or helpful when we had a couple of small niggles, all of which were resolved with a smile – an absolute star! The other fitters who worked with Dan were all very courteous and hard-working. The key thing we recognised is their desire to make the customer happy – Job well done! Thank you Ben, Dan and James. Mr Wyatt, Winchester

Happy Kitchens are quite unique as we are able to offer top quality products, available in any size, fitted by the best professionals in the business. Change your kitchen and bedroom with a makeover or design and install a new kitchen and bedroom, whichever suits your needs or price range.

HOLEY MOLEY – LET’S LOOK AT THE IMPORTANCE OF AERATION

parasites and diseases. Fewer microbes means the balance of nature is upset – don’t upset Mother Nature!

W

Feeling gassy Air gaps within soil are essential for the plant. Without air your grass would die. Plants don’t just breathe through their leaves. For roots to be healthy they too must breathe. Roots take in oxygen through tiny hairs within the gaps in the soil. When roots have limited access to air gaps in soil this gaseous exchange is compromised. Plants will be weakened, making them less vigorous and more susceptible to attack from pests and disease.

Mind the gaps Roots don’t actually grow in soil. Roots grow in the gaps within the soil, working their way deep into the ground through the network of tiny crack between the minerals and organic matter that makes up what we call soil. Soil should comprise of 25% air, 25% water, 45% minerals – that’s what you get when large rocks are broken down over time. Let’s not forget the remaining 5% which is humus. Not the chickpea dip, humus is the organic matter created when animals and plants decompose and it’s the essential food source for life within the soil.

Loosen up man

e mostly judge our lawns by the appearance of their leaves. Let’s take a moment to consider the importance of the soil structure in the health of your lawn. Within the soil, a network of roots not only anchors the plant, but also acts as it’s access to essential nutrients and moisture. Without a healthy, fully functional and well-developed root system your grass plant is never going to thrive.

As soil forms from the action of weather on rocks, plants begin to grow in it. These plants mature then die and new ones grow in their place. The leaves and roots of the dead plants are added to the soil. Animals eat plants and other animals. Their waste and, when they die their bodies, are added to the soil. Bacteria, fungi, worms and other creatures break down plant litter and the animal waste or remains and these then become the organic matter which help create healthy soil. Life’s essentials All living things need three essentials to survive. Whether you’re an elephant or an earthworm, unless you have water, air and food you’re not going to survive for very long. Restrict any of these three essentials and that living thing is going to suffer and struggle to be healthy. Grass plants are no different and neither are the microbes within the soil, critical to the health of your lawn. Compaction – it’s a hard life Now you have a bit of background about what your lawn soil is made up of, let’s talk about the importance of air gaps within your soil. Lawns get a lot of foot traffic. We are out there barbecuing, kicking a ball around or pegging out laundry. Over time this foot traffic compacts the soil beneath your lawn, gradually reducing the air gaps which are essential to life. Less air means fewer insects that break down dead plant material. It also means less microbial activity. This is a major issue. Beneficial microbes create a relationship with the plant roots, making important nutrients available and producing growth hormones that protect the plant from pests,

So, what can we do to help nature along and create a healthier environment? The answer is aeration. Aeration is the mechanical introduction of air spaces within soil to provide the essential balance needed to support soil life and healthy roots. You could do this with a garden fork. Stamp the fork into the ground, rock it back and forth, remove and repeat - over the whole lawn area. Trust me, this is really hard work. Lawn care professionals use petrol-powered aerators specifically designed for the task. It’s still hard work but its far more effective than a garden fork. The aerator is fitted with a metal tine that is driven deep into the ground to create a hole. If a hollow tine is used it pulls out a small plug of soil which is deposited on the surface of the lawn and soon breaks down. The surrounding soil now has the space to ‘relax’ into the hole, creating cracks and gaps within the soil and more air spaces. These newly created holes also allow dead plant matter into the soil where it can decompose and be broken down by insects and beneficial microbes, creating a heathier soil environment. Root pruning Hollow tines cut into the soil and also cut through the roots of the grass plants. As these roots re-grow, they do so in a more fibrous way with a greater surface area. More root area means more access to food, water and air – the essentials for a healthy plant. Aeration is by far the most beneficial mechanical process for any lawn and should ideally happen at least once a year. Drainage issues Finally, compaction issues are often responsible for water-logging. When the air gaps become filled with water instead of air they prevent the roots from accessing the essential air needed for life. The lack of air in the soil also impacts the life of beneficial bacteria and promotes the growth of damaging bacteria which reproduce in anaerobic environments, This virtual ‘soil death’ will result in actual grass plant death. Regular aeration relieves compaction which can reduce waterlogging. WELLBEING

BETTER HEARING IMPROVES OVERALL HEALTH

ALRESFORD SURGERY NEWS

People can now expect to live longer than ever before, and as we live longer it’s important that we look after ourselves to continue to live healthy lives. Hearing well plays a vital role in this. Hearing loss has been linked to several chronic disabling conditions such as cognitive decline, diabetes, heart disease, dementia and a risk of falling. In this article I’d like to focus on dementia. This presents an immense challenge and in 2015, there were an estimated 47 million people with dementia worldwide, and it is thought that this number will jump significantly to about 66 million by 2030, and 115 million by 2050. It’s been proven. The relationship between hearing health and overall health is real.

There is good news though with growing research showing that treating hearing loss can improve or limit the risk of some of these serious conditions. A 25-year-long study published in 2015 found that hearing aid use reduced the risk of cognitive decline associated with hearing loss. And in 2017, researchers reported that treating hearing loss in midlife is the single greatest change a person can make to lower their risk of dementia. ¹ Hearing aid wearers have an easier time socialising and enjoying group activities. This can help stave off potential dementia by keeping the brain busy. Music listening also boosts cognitive functions such as attention, communication and memory. ² Hearing aids – especially those offering wireless audio streaming – allow listeners to enjoy those positive health benefits. Today’s cutting-edge hearing aids, not only help treat hearing loss but are specifically designed to help people achieve good cognitive health by monitoring their overall health and wellbeing. Integrated sensors and artificial intelligence inside the hearing aids detect movement, activities and different gestures to provide real-time feedback about overall body and cognitive fitness. Written by Sam Longman. Sam is a fully qualified Audiologist registered with the Health Care Professional Council and is based at The Alresford Hearing Studio. ¹ ² ³

Admin email address Please can we remind patients not to use the admin email address for non-urgent, medical matters. We’ve had a few emails asking if patients can have urgent appointments or prescriptions for things via this means, which is obviously not the correct way to use it – and could lead to things being missed/not being dealt with in a timely fashion. Travel abroad If you are travelling abroad and think you may need advice and vaccinations from us you must complete a questionnaire (available from reception or from our website) and make an appointment with a nurse. Please be aware that if you provide us with less than 8 weeks’ notice before travelling we have to refer you on to the Winchester Travel Clinic as our Nurses may not be able to accommodate your requirements. Social Prescribing Are You Feeling Low? Anxious? Stressed? Isolated? It's ok to ask for help. Introducing a new service for young people under 25. Our surgery offers a holistic social prescribing service, working alongside young people to address the wider issues that are negatively impacting on well-being. We can link you with a support practitioner who will: • Listen to what matters to you • Work with you to create a wellness plan • Support you to engage with community services Your GP can refer you to the service or you can call the surgery to self-refer. Reflecting on the year just gone It turns out 2019 was a busy year for Alresford Surgery. We conducted over 56,000 consultations both on the phone and face to face which was an increase of approximately 1000 on 2018. Our busiest day was Monday 23rd September when we made 313 patient contacts including blood tests, nurse appointments as well as GP and duty doctor consultations. Here's to a happy and healthy 2020! HOME EDUCATION

HIGH-PERFORMING SUPERHEROES LEAD THE WAY AT ST SWITHUN’S PREP SCHOOL.

have the potential for high performance, regardless of ability. Each of the school’s superheroes represents one of the Advanced Cognitive Performance characteristics which form the backbone of the HPL philosophy: meta-thinking, linking, analysing, creating and realising. Dressed in vivid costumes, each of the superheroes makes regular appearances in assembly, at school plays and in various other school activities to demonstrate how his or her particular superpower can help pupils to achieve success in that specific situation. The character of each superhero was introduced through a series of outdoor challenges during an HPL day. Pupils worked together to cross a swamp in order to develop an understanding of meta-thinking, used their linking skills to navigate the amazing maze and built a paper mountain by thinking creatively, fluently and flexibly.

Staff at St Swithun’s Prep School have invented a compelling way to transform young children into High Performance Learners. The school, in Winchester, has created five superhero characters to bring its High Performance Learning (HPL) philosophy to life.

The HPL superheroes and their characteristics appear on posters around the school and are the basis of the house points rewards system. As the language and ethos of HPL become part of the fabric of the school, there has been a significant impact on the students’ awareness and understanding of their own learning.

HPL, which is embedded across the curriculum and all areas of school life, systematically teaches each child the skills and behaviours that enable them to achieve the best they can during their time at school and equips them to succeed in the next stage of their education. The philosophy recognises that all children

They are able to make connections to prior knowledge and identify the value in reflection, practice and collaboration. Pupils recognise that learning is made up of lots of different skills that all need developing – it is not just about ‘knowing’ the right answer.

Come to our open day and take part in our careers fair where little people learn to dream big Friday 6 March, St Swithun’s Prep School From 1.15pm including tours of the school and the dream big festival showcasing a breadth of careers including performance, agriculture, medicine, law and entrepreneurial business to inspire young children.

His commitment and unfailing good humour will be missed by Council members and staff. Our sincere condolences to his family. LET'S PLAY SCRABBLE Let’s Play Scrabble My name is Mike Symons and I’m seventy and a bit years young. I am hoping to start a friendly club in Alresford for Scrabblers and Backgammoners. Nothing too competitive, to start with anyway. I have been offered two venues, The Swan Hotel and The Arlebury Bar, both free of charge for some time. The venue will depend on popular choice. Thursday 3-5pm suits both venues. Please register your interest with me at : mchlsymons@yahoo.co.uk or with my wife Janet on the egg stall at the country market on Thursday mornings, indicating your preferred venue. If you have a complete scrabble set available that would be a great help. Let’s get scrabble done! We also need to thank Becky and her staff for all their support from The Arlebury Cafe and Leigh and Paul and all their staff at The Arlebury Bar for looking after us all so well this season. From us all at ARFC, a massive thank you. Many heartfelt thanks to all you sponsors, supporters and The Arlebury for all your support for ARFC and we look forward to seeing you all soon.

GARDEN COMMUNITY

TURNING OVER A NEW LEAF IN ALRESFORD How do we tackle a problem like climate change? Is it primarily a concern of the young, who have more invested in their futures - or the responsibility of elders with experience and in positions of power and influence, with the ability to steer large scale change? Should it be tackled with new technologies, like electric vehicles, renewable energy and foods made in laboratories, or is it old, forgotten wisdom that we need to rediscover; the lost arts of repairing, home growing and cooking, restoring a sense of community by walking to your local shops? Do we throw our hands up and blame big polluters, be they nations or multi nationals, and conclude that the individual is powerless? Climate change will not respect borders. A

CITIZENS ADVICE WINCHESTER DISTRICT Lesley Rose, Advice Services Manager for Citizens Advice Winchester District, gives advice on keeping an elderly relation safe at home. My elderly mother had a fall when I was visiting her recently and although she wasn’t badly injured, she lives alone and I’m worried what would happen if she fell again when she is on her own. Is she eligible for any free alarm systems? A personal alarm is a good way of helping older or less abled people feel safe at home and remain independent for longer. They also offer peace of mind to family and friends who can’t always be there to help. There is an enormous variety of alarm systems on offer, so it’s worth doing some research as to what would work best for you.The cheapest alarms make a loud noise when activated to alert anyone nearby that there is a problem, whereas some of the more sophisticated have an in-build motion sensor which can detect an unexpected movement and automatically make contact with a call centre or family member. Some local authorities run their own community alarm systems which may be subsidised or even free for those assessed as having eligible care needs.

British citizen is responsible for more carbon emissions in a fortnight than the citizens of some countries contribute in a year, and to them we are firmly in the biggest polluters club. Multinationals only exist because we buy their products, if they behave irresponsibly then we share in their culpability. To limit climate change we believe it will take all of these factors. We will all need to work together and play our part, embracing new technology and at the same time rediscovering lost skills. Individuals making positive changes to their lifestyle and communities working together. Businesses examining and minimizing their impact and our leaders making tough policy decisions. We can influence businesses and bring about change by voting with our feet and our wallets. Each of us making small changes that are individually just a drop, but collectively have the force of an ocean. New Leaf is a new community group based in Alresford. A new website has been with invaluable creative and development skills from Forum Media & Design (www. forummediaanddesign.co.uk) who offered their time free of charge, the New Leaf

website sprouted, and is flourishing! Thinking about tackling climate change can be overwhelming but we have tried to make it as easy as possible by providing all the necessary information at your fingertips. We address the questions of why it’s time to act, where to start and what changes you can make. The site is packed with tips and advice. It is also a place to share information. Many local companies and groups are already working hard to support more sustainable living, and on the New Leaf website you can find out about these efforts. We invite everyone to use the website, join our Facebook group and share information on how the community is responding. If 2019 was the year the world awoke to the threat of climate change, then this is the year we must turn over a New Leaf and act with 2020 vision. www.newleafalresford.org Search Facebook for ‘New Leaf ’ or go to https://www.facebook.com/groups/ newleafalresford

If your mother lives in Hampshire then it’s worth getting in touch with Connect to Support Hampshire (https://www. connecttosupporthampshire.org.uk/home) as they may fund the provision of a personal alarm (if she is deemed eligible) through their preferred provider. If you need to purchase one privately then do shop around. Personal alarms are available from a large number of organisations including local authorities and charities such as Age UK as well as commercial companies.

STEVE BRINE M.P It is fair to say, the past few months has been busier than usual for me. A not entirely unexpected General Election combined with a (very unexpected) family crisis tested my faith to its core. December 12th saw me re-elected for a fourth time – thank you – but just four days later my father passed away after a frighteningly short illness. Losing a parent is always difficult but to lose both is to find yourself somehow at the end of the line. I’ve never been surrounded by more family, friends and constituents but right now remains a very strange place to be.Thank you for your kind messages and prayers; I felt them all.

JACKIE’S COUNTY CORNER FOR FEBRUARY As I write the cold weather hasn’t arrived with us yet. But please check the salt material in the blue grit bins. It should be soft and dry enough to dig out easily, (bear in mind we only dig out grit in frozen conditions at < 2 degrees) and the lid should be waterproof. You can report grit bins in poor condition online, using the reference in the lid. Don’t forget you can walk off the winter blues at one of Hampshire’s Country Parks! Lepe is my favourite: now with a new restaurant. Do you use the local recycling centre? Have you registered your car with Hants.gov.uk yet? All drivers living in Hampshire likely to be entering the Recycling centres are now required to register their vehicles to use the HWRC’s. I am not sure if using an ANPR system is actually legal in this context- but this is surely a challenge to the spirit of greater recycling in the UK? Go to hants.gov.uk to register your vehicles:- https://www.hants.gov. uk/wasteandrecycling/recyclingcentres/vehicleregistration The County Council revealed its Climate Action Plan at the Cabinet on the 6th January. Although some council progress has been made, and it is the subject of greatest interest to the public, but if this is to be successful, it needs us all to make lifestyle changes! The jointly commissioned Winchester Movement Study is now moving onto identifying possible sites for

The start of a new Parliament is a time to re-focus and re-energise for MPs and I am no different. I plan to continue my relentless focus on the NHS and will be working closely with the service locally as we look towards the rebuild of the RHCH and securing safe and sustainable services in Winchester for the longterm. Nationally, I want to work with my successors at the Department of Health on the prevention agenda I did much to craft when Public Health Minister.Tackling the dangerous hoodoo around immunisations, facing the obesity crisis and making good our pledges on the early detection of cancer to name three.

the funding timebomb sitting underneath early years’ provision. I have lots of constituency examples to get in front of senior Ministers. Finally, I will be pushing Minister to live up to every one of their green pledges and I will be using every ounce of my experience to ensure our voice is really heard in Westminster around the future of the railways. I have already told the Transport Secretary that we have run out of patience with SWR and I will be calling for a franchise review at every opportunity the Commons affords me.We clearly cannot carry on like this and it’s about much (much) more than an industrial dispute which has obviously long outlived its welcome.

Elsewhere, I am determined to keep up the pressure on my school funding campaign working with the f40 group of similarly affected counties and the focus will now turn to helping teachers with the significant challenge they face around high needs provision. And I am committed to shining a very bright light on

MAKINS COURT CHRISTMAS LUNCH

Bus transport- Mervyn’s 95/96 service will be sorely missed, but it was just not economic. A big ‘Thank you’ to Mervyn for his years of service. This service touched many of the communities in my division. An interim service has been put in place by HCC from 1st January for 3 months, but it is not satisfactory. The County has agreed to look at viable alternativesbut needs to know what residents want. Please give me your views asap. A big thank you to Cresta too- the 240 service through Alresford and villages has been replaced by Stagecoach. If you are affected by either of these changes, please contact me. Development Delays:The ‘Nitrate Neutrality’ issue is hitting developers right across the South East at present-: Natural England want to ensure that all buildings which include overnight accommodation are ‘nitrate neutral’.This is holding up planning in all areas of the South East. If you’d like to know more, please contact me. Can I use this article to invite you to one of the first National Garden Scheme openings of the year? It is on Snowdrop Sunday from 1-4pm on the 16th February, at The Down House, Itchen Abbas, SO21 1AX. All ticket proceeds go to Nursing Charities. Mark and I really look forward to seeing you! Cllr. Some residents of Alresford were treated to a free Christmas Day Lunch at Makins Court on Christmas Day. A few residents from Ellingham Close and one from Meryon Road chose to join residents of Bailey House for their Christmas Lunch, but the majority went to Makins Court where a good time was had by all. This was all made possible from the generosity of John Sole Butchers, who supplied, turkey, stuffing & pigs in blankets free of charge. Thank you John. I would also like to thank Leigh & Paul Rees from the Arlebury Park Bar, who hold a meat raffle throughout the year and the proceeds were donated towards the Makins Court Lunch. The Lunch according to residents comments was excellent thanks to all the helpers, who made this event possible. I only organised the event together with Julie Cleeve, as I had a spell in hospital. However, everyone enjoyed themselves and received a present from Father Christmas and a goodie bag to take home. The Community Minibus driven by Ben Pettyfer, was used to pick residents up and take them back home. Thank you also to Sally Holmes of Bailey House who supplied the Lunch for the Ellingham and Meryon Road residents. Thank you all once again for making this Christmas Day special for so many lonely residents, and we hope to continue this for 2020. Pam Stevens

ANIMALS & PETS

ART FOR ST.PETERS

A truly amazing amount of art has been donated to Art for St Peter’s – which is raising funds towards the rebuilding of St Peter’s Church, Ropley. The committee are thrilled with the enthusiasm shown by so many local, and not so local, artists who contributed art in all shapes and forms. The local art clubs have encouraged their members to support the event and art has arrived from all quarters – including some with no contact details for us to be able to send thanks. We have a selection of lovely watercolours, acrylics, oils, paintings and sketches as well as sculptures, woodwork, lino cuts, textiles and photography. Some artists are practising professionals, others are talented amateurs, there is contemporary and classic with some second hand paintings that have been donated to the appeal as well. So, now is the time to reveal the event itself. On Saturday 22nd February there will be a display of the art at a Drinks Reception between 6.00pm and 8.00pm in Ropley Parish Hall. During the evening, guests will be able to choose one or more envelopes at £25 each, at random and find out if they have a fabulous painting by one of our exhibiting artists, including Paul Treasure, Chloe Lamb, Jenny Hill-Norton or the Forum’s Rachel Hudson, a sculpture by Janet Glover or Ann Wadman, a piece by a member of the Winchester or Alresford Art Clubs. All the art will be available to take away that evening and 100% of the funds raised from the envelopes will go to the Appeal. What if you cannot make it to the event itself? You can still buy one or more envelopes and we will ask another guest to make the draw for you, your art will be kept safely and delivered as soon as possible. The art can be viewed on https://www.friendsofropleychurch/art-for-st-peters/ .

ART SOCIETY OFFERING PLACES

The Alresford Art Society is offering more places on its classes to nonmembers. Chairman Sue Gentry says, “We run six classes a week during term time for oil, life and beginners as well as three watercolour classes, both daytime and evening, and we have a few more places to fill for the spring term if you are already an artist.”

The price of an envelope is £25, which enables one guest per envelope to enjoy the Drinks Reception and display, can be bought from the Ropley Village Shop or online at our Golden Giving page www.goldengiving. com/wall/st-peters-church-ropleypcc . Full details are available from www. Stpetersropley.org.uk or Nicky Cambrook on 07855 305435.

All classes are held at the Christy Hall in Old Alresford and there are currently places available for the Thursday morning watercolour class that runs for 10 weeks from 10-12.30pm with Hampshire artist Christopher Cole and the Monday evening watercolour class that runs for seven weeks from 8-10pm with Sharon Hurst starting on 27th January. There are also two places left on the Life class with models tutored by Karen Popham, six weeks starting on 4th February, 4-6pm on a Tuesday.

Tickets are limited to the amount of enveloes containing art available so everyone will get something – you just won’t know what until you open your envelope!

“Do get in touch with me if you are interested,” says Sue “on 01962 773185 or email sue.gentry@gentrypublicity.co.uk. January is not just a great time to take up a new hobby but painting also ticks the boxes when it comes to mindfulness and escaping from the daily chaos around you.”

COMMUNITY

BRIGHT FUTURES FOR GODOLPHIN STUDENTS

DO YOU KNOW SOMEONE WHO NEEDS A HOME FIRE SAFETY CHECK? Hampshire Fire & Rescue Service can provide a free Safe & Well visit to the most vulnerable people in the community who may be at more risk of harm from fire. A person may be eligible for this if one or more of the following is true: • Over 65 • Lives alone • Has a physical or learning disability • Has difficulties with vision or hearing • Substance or alcohol dependent • Returning from hospital and there are identified fire risks, e.g. smoker, hoarder, no smoke alarms etc. • Has a physical or learning disability Find out more at the Hampshire Fire & Rescue Service www.hantsfire.gov.uk or call the community safety team on 023 8062 6751.

Godolphin has some exciting new developments in careers education and guidance, all sign-posting future opportunities for their students.

WINCHESTER COLLEGE - AMAZING ANIMALS, FREE FAMILY FUN DAY

Firstly, a new Bright Futures Resource Centre, a wonderful focus for students’ independent research and inspiration. Students will also have Bright Futures lessons in the Resource Centre throughout their time at Godolphin, from First Year to Sixth Form. In September 2019, Godolphin launched a new activity “Find Your Future Friday” open to students from all year groups. Each week a different visiting speaker comes to talk, (during Friday lunch break) giving students the chance to find out about a career, university, or training opportunity. Last term Godolphin welcomed a diverse range of speakers, from members of their own Alumnae working in fashion, finance and business; to parents who are medicine and health specialists and veterinarians; detectives speaking about solving crimes, Newcastle University talking about careers related to Humanities degrees; and insights from an expert on International Universities. Feedback on these sessions has been excellent, with parents and students commenting on how useful these lunchtimes have been, and the visitors themselves have often commented on the intelligent and engaged questions students ask. Alongside the Summer Term Bright Futures Fair, and the yearly Bright Futures Evening, Find Your Future Friday offers a great way for girls to picture their future and life after Godolphin. Making support with future choices more visible and accessible, Godolphin runs a Bright Futures Drop-In Clinic in the Senior Boarding House every Monday and Friday lunchtime, where a typical week involves questions about GCSE choice; help with application forms for part-time work; and chats about evolving plans for university. Careers and university support are brought into the classroom, with posters and information available on relevant subject areas, and teachers volunteering to become Bright Futures Subject Champions, able to guide interested students towards websites, courses and opportunities relevant to their subjects. Bethan Ferguson is Head of Bright Futures at Godolphin. For more information about Careers Education and Guidance at Godolphin, visit www.godolphin.org.

This February half-term, Winchester College’s Treasury museum is holding a family fun day on the theme Amazing Animals. The Treasury has a wonderful collection of artworks including prancing horses, curled-up cats, wild boar, and noisy parrots. Children and their parents/guardians are invited to drop-in and follow an exciting new museum trail, in which they can explore the galleries and try to discover any horses left hiding in the old stables. There will also be free craft activities for primary school-aged children in which they can create their own animal-inspired artworks. The event runs all day on Wednesday 19 February (10:30 – 16:00) and is free to attend. The Winchester College Treasury houses the school’s unique collections of art and archaeology. These include artefacts from Egypt, Greece and Rome, casts of the Parthenon Frieze, and Chinese ceramics from the Tang to Qing dynasties. The medieval stables were converted into a museum in 2016 and the Treasury has welcomed many schools pupils, scholars, tourists, and international visitors over the past three years. In September 2019, Winchester College made entry to the museum free for all visitors and extended the opening hours to 2 - 4pm, every day.
