Budding writers are being invited to submit their fiction and poetry to Tim Saunders in Locks Heath, who is publishing a book of short stories and an anthology of poetry

“I am particularly keen to promote fresh, new talent so extend this invitation to anyone aged 16 and over,” says Tim, who launched his latest books this month and writes for publications in England and America. “The challenge is that stories must not exceed 1,000 words and poetry needs to be 30 lines or under.”

The deadline is April 28, 2022. Email your entries to: tsaunderspubs@gmail.com

Bishop’s Waltham Rotary Club News

Shoeboxes follow up Following on from the news in our last Press Release that we had managed to send over 300 boxes to add to the 18,000 boxes collected throughout our district, we have now received pictures of local Rotarians in Albania distributing some of the boxes donated to local children. Thank you again for your amazing support of this scheme which brings a lot of Christmas cheer to many Children who would otherwise not have any presents at this time.

Christmas collections I am pleased to say that we were able to resume some sort of normality at the end of last year, after all of the cancelations of the last 18months or so, and Santa, plus his music playing brightly lit train “Roger” were able to tour the local area covering many of the roads in Bishop’s Waltham, Waltham Chase, Horton Heath and Fair Oak. Thanks to your amazing generosity we were able to raise well over £5,600 to help us help others, which is our highest total raised during the many years we have been out with Santa and “Roger”! Local support Thanks to the generous support we receive through our fundraising events etc. we are able to aid many local groups with their charitable

Mr Mac

At last, 2022 is well under way and let us hope for a better year and the end of the pandemic. Technology has, as always, moved along in leaps and bounds over the last 12 months and I am sure it will do so this year as well. I am pleased to report that many over 55s are embracing more and more new technology. Not just the 60 and 70 year olds, I have clients in their 80s and even some in their 90s! My advice to everyone is do not let the device control you, you control the device. Use them for what you need and be comfortable with what you are using.

As more and more of you are asking me for advice when choosing something new, I can tell you that do not always need to buy the latest iPhone, iPad, Mac computer or Windows laptop when you decide to change your device. Apple and Amazon offer refurbished, in most cases as good as new, for much less than the price of a new model and with a 12 month warranty. I can help to advise on the best one for your needs. Please call me to book an appointment 07392 552 592.

Finally, this month if you are fed up with Alexa and would prefer something with a much better sound quality, try the Apple Home Pod Mini. It sounds so much better than the Echo Dot Alexa speaker. I used to be very happy with my Bose mini speaker until I changed for these. You can install them in different rooms and connect to any Apple device wirelessly. They are just £89 each and available in various colours.

works such as the Meon Valley Food Bank, Meon Valley Baby Bank and Spark Community Space, but we also help individuals, when there is a specific need. Often in these cases people are directed to contact us or we are contacted by others who know that an individual or family need help but are unable to help themselves. In these circumstances we very carefully consider each individual case presented to us, and look at the finances available to us, and carry out whatever checks we feel are necessary to the case presented. On many occasions where the need arises we have pooled our resources with other Rotary clubs in the area and with the local Lions club.
