Mongrel against Mortal

Is there ever a good time to bathe the dog? Claws clenched, soap suds scattered, threats thundered and suddenly your beloved pride and joy turns from the weight of a miniature dachshund to the lumbering load of a Great Dane. And yet the arrival of guests is always a harbinger of bad tidings - for furry-coated, four-footed friends, that is, with an inbuilt dislike of any body of water that doesn’t resemble a muddy puddle.

It begins with a whisper, a mere baby’s breath upon the wind. The unsuspecting canine is stretched out blissfully unaware of the endless hoovering, cleaning, dusting and its own contribution to the general aroma that is tolerable for family though evidently insufferable for guests, distinguished or otherwise.

But an atmosphere is brewing. Maybe it's the anticipation before the battle, or perhaps it's the slightly too cheerful tone with which the dog’s name is called. The family is poised, one at every exit point, bent double, hands on knees and faces fixed with an expression that would wilt even the most hardened Sunday side rugby player. The canine is cornered.

The hound knows when it is being hunted. Escape is impossible but suddenly the gap under the sofa provides the perfect sanctuary. The battle lines have been drawn; mongrel against mortal.

There is a certain kind of indignity that all dog owners are exposed to with downright alarming regularity. Bath time is no exception. Scuba diving under one’s sofa to retrieve the family pet is not what anyone signed up for and such skills were certainly never mentioned at the adoption agency. Nutritional facts and figures must be able to be quoted backwards and high visibility dog collars must be purchased and yet the willingness to stand out in the rain to allow for a canine comfort break, to fill every jacket and coat pocket with scented small bags and to perfect one’s ability to throw sticks perfectly was never discussed.

Green eyes glint dangerously under the sofa and a low growl omits from the void. Pound coins are pocketed favourably and crumbs are pushed aside. Slowly one hand is extended and with it a bribe - a handful of salty dog chews, as pungent as the aroma due to be addressed. The canine is not stupid and yet a moment’s distraction is all the advantage an experienced dog owner needs. A vice-like grip is swiftly tightened around the dog’s collar. Slowly the extradition process begins.

Cheers like those for a sporting hero shooting the winning goal erupt in the household. The battle has been won but the war is far from over. Mutinous curses and threats are projected from the captured pup. The indignity has

switched from hunter to hunted. Perhaps there is such a thing as retribution.

Each step towards the bathtub becomes increasingly difficult as the hound lowers its centre of gravity and weighs heavier, fidgeting restlessly in your arms. If the dog had any doubt as to its impending fate then the instruments of torture laid out in the bathroom were enough to convince her that any chance of clemency was well and truly without real foundation. Instruments of torture in the form of the fluffiest towel the family owned, the most expensive dog shampoo the pet shop could sell and more than a handful of dog treats.

But to the family dog, stripped of all hope and ready to descend into despair, there was but one solution. Howl! Perhaps it was a final farewell to all the dogs in the neighbourhood, perhaps it was a tribute to Sydney Carton, ‘A far far wetter thing I…’

The moment had arrived. One paw, two paws, three paws and a tail and before too long, you have a wet dog and a death warrant on your hands, all in the name of sweetening the aroma for the guests. By this time, both dog and assigned dog washer are unified in the mutual dislike of said guests and the disruption they have caused, albeit unwittingly. Do curtains really need washing for afternoon tea guests? Does the dog really need a claw inspection complete with a shampoo and set?

Hope can be a cruel mistress. There is a moment of misplaced triumph when the drone of the shower is silenced and the flow of water abruptly stops. The hound looks heartened, forgetful of the next stage of this journey into hell. The drying process. To towel dry and risk unbelievable frizz or to painstakingly use the hair dryer on a constant cool shot? The options are limited but so is the time before the guests arrive. A quick towel dry and a gentle blast with the dryer it is then.

Finally, not before time, the dog is released from its watery prison and allowed to have a mad half hour, skidding into every family member to give an excited greeting and to showcase the flowy locks of newly washed fur. Life is good for the four-footed member of the family. For the rest of the household, the troubles are far from over. Time to count the casualties.

A quick glance out the window reveals the figures of the early guests arriving up the path. Could peace not last for even a moment? Panicked shouts from the kitchen answer otherwise ‘Quick! Get the paper towels! That damned dog!’ Maybe the mongrel won the war after all.

Bespoke Kitchens & Furniture

Happy Kitchens have a unique approach when it comes to kitchens and custom spaces in the home. We use excellent quality materials which are fitted by exshipwright joiners, who used to fit the woodwork on Super Yachts. That in itself is unique in our industry but then add in the fact that we are bespoke, but don’t charge the inflated prices that your highend high street showrooms do, gives us the recipe for your perfect home solution. This is why we are one of the highest rated home improvement companies on HOUZZ, beating all the top names you might recognise when walking down your high street.

We have never had less than a 5 star

review and have won the HOUZZ best of service award every year since it has been running. The staff at HOUZZ reference us to other companies as to how customer service should be done. Many of our customers have used us 2 or 3 times due to moving house or tackling other projects in their existing houses.

We do not have a template for design and take a fresh approach with every customer. It is important to take all the best ideas a customer has, then bring in the experience we have to offer, and often our ideas will be completely different to any other companies as we are innovative and bespoke. We often hear that customers have had designs and quotes that all look the same, are boring and

un-exciting, yet expensive. This is because most high street ‘kitchen designers’ are just salespeople with no idea on how a kitchen works.

6
Bespoke sizing - Media walls, boot rooms, custom offices, installed by ex shipwright joiners with exceptional attention to detail

So whether you need an amazing Kitchen, Utility, Bedroom, coffee bar with custom pod storage, Office, Media wall or Living Room storage we can help. The design visits are free of charge, and we can quote on the same day. Also Ben loves design, so often at no extra charge, he will help you choose paint colours, light fittings, Bar stools, artwork and can even recommend great pots and pans.

Our customers will often use us again, and recommend us to Family and Friends. The quote from the review above was from a customer who has chosen us twice, and their parents also have a Happy Kitchen, and two of the parents' friends.

The biggest compliment we get from our customers is always around our attention to detail and often bringing something completely different to the table. If you are still unsure after reading this, go and read some of our reviews on our Happy Kitchens Houzz profile, and do a search of kitchen companies on there by review rating, we are always close to the top of the list.

Out-of-the-box thinking, bespoke design features, and friendly staff with excellent attention to detail are just a few of the reasons you should call us today. If that isn’t enough please do remember that the design visit is free of charge, so you have nothing to lose.

Adopt a proactive and pragmatic approach

The alarming headlines and figures over house price growth do not necessarily accurately reflect the levels of activity that we and other agents are seeing in our area.

There are good enquiries and increasing buyer confidence, and despite the Bank of England raising the rates some of the large lenders have lowered them.

9 to 5 The Musical What a way to make a livin’

If you love seeing the underdog triumph, and relish a rollicking good tune, Petersfield Theatre Group (PTG)’s version of 9 to 5 The Musical should definitely be on your agenda.

The show, on at Petersfield Festival Hall from May 17-20, 2023, tells the story of a group of downtrodden female office workers pushed too far by their sexist, egotistical bigot of a boss.

Based on the hit movie and with music and lyrics by Dolly Parton, the show is outrageous, thought-provoking, high energy and hilarious.

Violet is the most capable worker at the company but has repeatedly been passed over for promotion. Office rookie Judy is newly separated, and is bullied. Then there’s Doralee –whose looks belie her brains – constantly fending off unwanted office advances.

The trio fantasise about taking over the workplace and getting even with the chauvinist in charge but events take an unexpected turn. Will the women triumph or will a surprise visit by the company chairman be their undoing?

Besides a great musical show, audiences will also get the chance to sample the hedonistic craziness of the disco era in the theatre bar; staged as La Vie en Rose nightclub, complete with live DJ, dance-floor, and themed cocktails.

inevitable short-term fluctuations, then they will likely benefit from an expected upward trend over the next five to ten years. Whilst a proactive, pragmatic and patient approach is required in the current market, an experienced estate agent will navigate it to ensure the very best outcome for you!

Petersfield Area Historical Society’s Golden Jubilee - 1973 – 2023

In June 2023 the Petersfield Area Historical Society will celebrate its 50th anniversary. This important milestone is to be commemorated with a series of special events. In March, the Petersfield Museum and Art Gallery launched a display featuring documents, objects and photographs chosen to represent the Society’s contribution to the recording, preservation and study of the town’s rich history. The PAHS was part of the driving force behind the establishment of the Museum and provided the core of its collections. During the summer half-term holiday (27th May – 3rd June), a free family treasure hunt has been organised, featuring 25 local buildings and businesses in the town centre. The competition aims to raise awareness of our heritage amongst our younger residents, while giving them the opportunity to win prizes donated by local organisations. Forms will be available to download from the PAHS website or to collect from the town’s library and museum.

In July, during the Festival of Archaeology fortnight (15th – 30th July), PAHS is combining forces with Liss Archaeology to hold the Petersfield Big Dig. This event will include archaeological investigations of three key areas: the Spain, the Avenue Playing Fields and Goodyer Meadow. The public will be welcome to attend and it is planned to run children’s activities based on an archaeological theme. The Big Dig will also include the digging of test pits in selected private gardens. Displays and talks relating to the excavations are to follow later in the year. An illustrated PAHS Jubilee book will be on sale this summer. As well as covering 50 years of PAHS activities, it also includes details of members who helped shape the Society and an overview of Petersfield in 1973 and 2023. www.petersfieldhistoricalsociety.org

Osteopathy for New Borns and the Older Child

Your birth story is unique. Subtle events within the processes of labour shape your birth experience. Whether joyful or fraught, recounting the birth story can be a profoundly healing experience while communicating the subtle shifts in the labouring process which for the Osteopath, describes the impact of birth on mother and baby. Your birth story is part of the healing process interwoven with gentle treatment to resolve physical and sometimes emotional trauma surrounding birth.

Treating the new-born at birth or soon after is an immense privilege. Gentle corrective Osteopathic techniques to resolve mechanical strains from labour can enable the soft ‘gel’ like bones of the new-born to return to their natural position and permit strains within neck and base of the skull to be released so that baby can turn its head fully and comfortably. The ‘thinking, knowing, seeing fingers’[1] of Osteopathic touch offer techniques to release the muscles of tongue and throat area so the baby with suckling difficulty may open their mouth fully, latch effectively, suckle efficiently and breathe comfortably.

The fascinating thing is that your baby’s head is designed for birth. The bones at the base of the skull are formed in cartilage resilient to protect structures of the brain during birth. The bones forming the shape of the head develop in membrane and are designed to overlap during the compressive strains of labour. Nature’s way of permitting birth and safeguarding the passage of the baby. It is understood by Osteopaths that the resiliency and pliancy of the bones of the infant’s head correspondingly help the labour process, positioning and guiding but also influence timing too.

The powerful suckle of the new-born stimulates the resolution of some

strains quite naturally, but where strains causing restriction or overlapping of bones of the head persists, prolonged crying and persistent wakefulness can sometimes occur. It is helpful to assist the little bones back into their correct position for optimal function and restoring well-being.

Persistent strains in the head can occasionally, lead to distortion and shape change in the head, a condition termed ‘plagiocephaly’ where a ‘flat spot’ in the skull develops and baby may tend to lie with its head always to one side. Tummy time is important, up to one hour per day, in little chunks, whether on your lap, lying on your chest, in the bath, or on the play mat. Gentle corrective work of an Osteopath permits full resolution of this troubling condition. Check out the Sleepcurve activity mat designed by an Osteopath so your baby is not lying on a flat surface: www.sleepcurve.com.

Remember Osteopaths work for mums and babies together to restore function and permit health. An exhausted mum with bruised pelvis following difficult labour needs specialist care. It is essential that mum is well, so I offer a special ‘Mum and Baby’ rate, so mum gets a check-up too!

Common lawn problems

At this time of year, we begin to venture out into our gardens more often and become aware of how our lawns have coped over the winter months. We see plenty of lawn issues, lets take a look at what can be done.

Compaction

Healthy soil needs air spaces within it. Roots don’t grow in the soil; they grow in the gaps within. Gradually, over time, through regular use of your garden your lawn is likely to become compacted. Areas where your lawn is walked on more often are likely to show signs of poor grass growth and more often than not, this is due to the compaction below the surface. You’ll see this more often close to washing lines, the entrance to gates or where you have to walk over the lawn to access another area in your garden. It may be tempting to scatter grass seed on the surface, but unless the compaction issue is addressed, that new seed is going to struggle to establish as there is no space in the soil for its roots.

Compromised root development means the grass has limited access to moisture and nutrition, meaning compromised grass growth. In addition, the roots are responsible for a gaseous exchange with the atmosphere, without which your grass will be less healthy and more susceptible to disease and pest issues. If you want a lawn to be proud of, deal with the compaction in your lawn. Aeration of the lawn, at least annually, should make up part of your lawn care plan.

Dog Urine Burn

Since Covid lock-down, there are many more lawn owners that are now also dog owners. That increase in dog ownership has seen an increase of dog related lawn damage. The most common of which is scorching, and bare patches caused by dog urine. Urine is high in nitrogen. Used correctly, nitrogen is an essential lawn nutrient and good for your grass. As anyone who has spilt lawn fertiliser on their grass will know, a concentration of nitrogen will kill grass. And this is what we are seeing with dog urine burns. The high concentration of nitrogen burns the grass and then the lower concentration around the edge creates a halo of lush growth – great for drawing attention to the unsightly burn!

The best way to deal with this is prevention. If you can train your dog to pee elsewhere then that’s ideal. If not, try flushing the area with water after your pet has relieved itself. This isn’t always practical,

and you may need to adopt strategies to repair these bare areas. Raking, spiking, and seeding is a good way forward. Another great tip is to grow some small plant pots of soil and grass seed. When the burns appear, you can dig out the area, using an empty plant pot as a template and then pop the new grass in to fill the gap.

Insect Damage

There are two main groups of insects that cause lawn issues – leather jackets and chafer grubs. Both live in the soil, both eat the grass plant, both cause major, unsightly damage. The pesticide used to control these insects has been withdrawn and therefore we are seeing increased numbers. Turf growers are struggling to supply pest-free turf and we see major problems in lawns that have been recently re-laid. To avoid this problem, if you are thinking of replacing your lawn, it’s far better to establish it from seed than to bring in new turf and possibly bring in lawn destroying insects too. Check with a lawncare professional if you suspect insect damage issues and they will be able to advise the best way forward.

Lawn Treatments

All living things need the right nutrition to remain healthy. Your lawn is no different. Without the correct seasonal nutrition, grass growth may be weak and the plants more susceptible to pests and diseases. In addition, regular weed and moss control will ensure your lawn looks its best all year long. Many lawn owners, who choose to apply their own lawn treatments, soon realise that shop-bought products are often not as effective as they would like. In addition, they tend to be expensive and don’t come in pack sizes to fit the size of your lawn – resulting in a shed full of part used boxes of ineffective products. It’s important not to under or over-dose a lawn, so the right applicator should be used, and that applicator should be calibrated too. Many people realise that the convenience and value offered by professional lawn treatments far outweighs shop bought alternatives and guarantees a beautiful lawn you can be proud of all year.

Petersfield Ramblers South Downs Way Circuit from Elsted

At last, after several attempts at arranging this walk, the weather gods and all other conditions are favourable. Fifteen of us, plus faithful canine pal Pickle, meet at the Parish Church of Elsted a delightful little village on the South Harting to Nyewood road. After heavy rain at the weekend, a few days of glorious spring sunshine have begun to dry out the sodden and some muddy paths and tracks. It is always extraordinary, ‘though, how some paths are sheltered and well drained and show little sign of the wet conditions. Anyway, enough about the weather, I’m sure we all get fed up with it.

We set off south down the lane with an ever pleasing vista of the South Downs ahead, soon the lane bent to the left and we carry on up the bridleway turning left below Elsted Hanger before turning right and some serious climbing up to the South Downs Way. We follow the long distance trail past Buriton Farm and climb some more up to Philliswood Down where the SDW takes us left.

We soon come across the Devil’s Jumps. These are a line of bell barrows, and the site is listed as a Scheduled Ancient Monument and Local Nature Reserve. Most barrows along the South Downs have been damaged by agriculture and treasure hunters but the Devil’s Jumps are considered to be the best preserved Bronze Age barrow group in Sussex. The barrows are laid out in a line running approximately south-east to north-west and the main line of five barrows is aligned with sunset on Midsummer Day. They make an ideal and timely place to stop for coffee, etc. with splendid views all round.

Pressing on, we continue along SDW before turning left at Didling Hill wending our way down the bridleway an almost concealed footpath to the right which takes us fairly steeply, but dry underfoot through a stretch of woodland before it opens up to a typical downland view.

We overlook the fields and pastures currently full of lambing ewes. The area is a veritable birthing hub, and we spot very newly borns tottering about on their spindly legs often chasing their “lost” mothers, and even one having just dropped being cleaned up by a solicitous mum. There is nothing quite like this scene for confirming that this is indeed Spring in the British countryside.

A little further on we have chance to stop at the dear little shepherd’s church of St Andrews. There are several of these pretty little churches strung out along the South Downs, many in tucked away locations, even in the middle of a field (Coombes Church, near Lancing).

St Andrews is tiny, has no electricity and the pews are narrow and upright. It’s great to see that services are still held there once a month. There is no electricity nor, I believe heating, so warm clothing (in the winter) and a hearty and confident hymn-singing voice is required. We continue and join a lane through Didling village before leaving the metalled road still in a northerly direction.

We cross the bed of the former Petersfield to Midhurst railway. We hear there is an initiative to re-instate the bed and make it a cycling/ walking trail amenity which would be wonderful. Now we’re walking through waterlogged meadows in the Elsted Marsh area – the name says it all, doesn’t it? But we’re all well-booted and many are wearing gaiters, so no wet feet. To the east of Elsted Marsh we cross a lane into Henfield Wood. Alongside the bridleway are a line of felled tree stumps which provide very accommodating seating for us to stop and have lunch.

Refuelled and refreshed we set off again soon reaching the Fitzhall and its pretty pond. At Bridgelands Farm we turn north again, past Goldrings Warren and across the western edge of Trotton Common. Just before reaching the busy A272 we join the lane where some quiet road walking is necessary. This enables us to avoid paddocks containing overly inquisitive ponies, as well as electric fencing across a footpath, without the required catch to allow safe passage through. At Dumpford village we re-join our route and soon make great strides past South Downs Manor house now a luxury wedding venue. Once more across the bed of the former railway, then we’re on the home stretch into Elsted village our path taking us along the church wall back to the carpark.

A delightful walk, with signs of spring everywhere, but probably a little more strenuous than it looks on the map. Well worth the effort.

Mr Mac

You might want to consider this handy device if you are working from home. It is the Yealink MP50. It will connect with your mobile phone via Bluetooth and let you use the handset to dial or answer calls. It also connects to your Mac or Windows PC and lets you make calls using your computer. I have been using it now for nearly a month and have to say that this is one of the most useful devices I have bought in a long time. It is available from Amazon for £118.90

If you have been enjoying The Mandalorian on Disney Plus you might find this an interesting distraction. Available from lego. com directly or other resellers. I saw it on Amazon for 20% off recently. Great fun to build as are so many of their products no matter what age you are.

Once again, I return to the thorny subject of internet security. It has long been said that Apple’s Mac devices are not as vulnerable as machines running Microsoft’s Windows, who knows for sure. There are only a few Mac users I know that do have Anti-Virus software installed. I see it far more often on Windows machines although Windows own security software does a pretty good job of keeping them virus free but if you are unsure, you can now install Bitdefender for no payment. It has just been rated by Which as the best free antivirus software out there. It is not clear if it is free for Macs, it says free download on their website, that usually means free to download but pay to use! I should add that I would be inclined to advise Mac users to consider installing some protection.

Redundancies: tips for employers

The stark economic reality of the recent inflation and energy prices, together with the poor predictions from the IMF, mean some businesses are struggling. It is no surprise therefore that some are considering whether redundancies are one way to help the business survive and thrive. Employers preparing for redundancies should be mindful of the need to ensure they follow a fair redundancy process.

Employers are advised to seek legal advice before embarking on a redundancy process but a few additional tips for employers to consider are as follows:

• Look carefully at your groups, or ‘pools’ of employees when considering who may be ‘at risk’ of redundancy – consider not only what their title is but what they actually do day-to-day.

• Do not forget about accrued untaken annual leave – this could be

an extra cost that employers sometimes forget about. Can your staff use up this leave or will it be accrued and untaken on termination? Best to plan ahead so you can give appropriate notice if you are wanting your staff to use up their holiday entitlement.

• Managing the shock of a redundancy process – consultation can cover more than just looking for alternatives to hopefully avoid the redundancy situation. It can also help to inform the employee about what the process looks like, how long it’s expected to last, and how the redundancy calculations are worked out if employees are made redundant. Employees often ask what they would be entitled to if they are made redundant.

• Check your employees’ contracts of employment but also their years of service – the contract you are using for your staff may be out of date or incorrect so may not reflect the correct notice period. Employees are entitled to minimum statutory notice periods unless their contract gives them more.

If you require advice on any aspect of a redundancy process or would like some guidance to take you through a process from start to finish, we are here to help.

Coronation Weekend 6-8th May 2023

Buckingham Palace is pleased to announce further details on the ceremonial, celebratory and community events that will take place over the Coronation Weekend between Saturday 6th and Monday 8th May 2023.

The Coronation of His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen Consort will take place at Westminster Abbey on Saturday 6th May, 2023. The Service will be conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury. As previously announced, the Service will reflect the Monarch’s role today and look towards the future, while being rooted in longstanding traditions and pageantry.

Across the Coronation Weekend, there will be further opportunities for people to come together in celebration of the historic occasion. On Sunday, 7th May 2023, a special Coronation Concert will be staged and broadcast live at Windsor Castle by the BBC and BBC Studios, with several thousand pairs of tickets to be made available via public ballot.

The Coronation Big Lunch, at which neighbours and communities are invited to share food and fun together, will take place across the country on the same date. On Monday, 8th May 2023, members of the public will be invited to take part in The Big Help Out, which will encourage people to try volunteering for themselves and join the work being undertaken to support their local areas.

Their Majesties The King and The Queen Consort hope the Coronation Weekend will provide an opportunity to spend time and celebrate with friends, families and communities across the United Kingdom, the Realms and the Commonwealth. Their Majesties are looking forward to marking the occasion with the public throughout 2023.

Saturday 6th May 2023

The Coronation Service at Westminster Abbey

The Coronation Service will take place on the morning of Saturday, 6th May 2023 at Westminster Abbey. The Coronation is a solemn religious service, as well as an occasion for celebration and pageantry.

Their Majesties The King and The Queen Consort will arrive at Westminster Abbey in procession from Buckingham Palace, known as ‘The King’s Procession’.

After the Service, Their Majesties will return to Buckingham Palace in a larger ceremonial procession, known as ‘The Coronation Procession’. Their Majesties will be joined in this procession by other Members of the Royal Family. At Buckingham Palace, The King and The Queen Consort, accompanied by Members of the Royal Family, will appear on the balcony to conclude the day’s ceremonial events.

Sunday 7th May 2023

The Coronation Concert at Windsor Castle

On Sunday, 7th May 2023, a special Coronation Concert will take place at Windsor Castle. Produced, staged and broadcast live by the BBC and BBC Studios, the Coronation Concert will bring global music icons and contemporary stars together in celebration of the historic occasion. Attended by a public audience including volunteers from The King and The Queen Consort’s many charity affiliations, the concert will see a world-class orchestra play interpretations of musical favourites fronted by some of the world’s biggest entertainers, alongside performers from the world of dance. The performances will be supported by staging and effects located on the Castle’s

East Lawn and will also feature a selection of spoken word sequences delivered by stars of stage and screen.

Through a national ballot held by the BBC, several thousand members of the public will be selected to receive a pair of free tickets for the Coronation Concert at Windsor Castle.

Alongside the stars of the concert, the show will also see an exclusive appearance from The Coronation Choir. This diverse group will be created from the nation’s keenest community choirs and amateur singers from across the United Kingdom, such as Refugee choirs, NHS choirs, LGBTQ+ singing groups and deaf signing choirs. A new documentary exploring the formation of The Coronation Choir will tell the stories of the people representing the many faces and voices of the country. The Coronation Choir will appear alongside The Virtual Choir, made up of singers from across the Commonwealth, for a special performance on the night.

The centrepiece of the Coronation Concert, ‘Lighting up the Nation’, will see the country join together in celebration as iconic locations across the United Kingdom are lit up using projections, lasers, drone displays and illuminations.

The Coronation Concert will be produced by BBC Studios, broadcast live on BBC One, BBC iPlayer, BBC Radio 2 and BBC Sounds.

The Coronation Big Lunch

Neighbours and communities across the United Kingdom are invited to share food and fun together at Coronation Big Lunches on Sunday 7th May 2023, in a nationwide act of celebration and friendship. From a cup of tea with a neighbour to a street party, a Coronation Big Lunch brings the celebrations to your neighbourhood and is a great way to get to know your community a little better.

The Coronation Big Lunch will be overseen and organised by the Big Lunch team at the Eden Project. The Big Lunch is an idea from the Eden Project, made possible by The National Lottery, that brings millions of people together annually to boost community spirit, reduce loneliness and support charities and good causes. Her Majesty The Queen Consort has been Patron of the Big Lunch since 2013.

Thousands of events are expected to take place in every corner of the United Kingdom this May as people take to their streets, gardens, parks and community spaces to join the Coronation celebrations and mark this historic occasion.
