Broughton Talks: Old Photographers Never Die, they just lose their focus 8pm, Broughton Village Hall. Bob Cramp was in the right place at the right time – London was a cultural hotbed throughout the early time of his career in the 1970s as a commercial photographer. Although not well known to the general public, he has created many iconic brand images, as well as one particularly famous political one , the “Labour isn’t working” poster. Follow the trials, tribulations and ultimate triumph of Bob’s career from the start of everyday use of colour in advertising photography in 1969, until 1983, when research and globalisation started to change the creative process, before the dawn of mobile phones, computers and the digital revolution. All are welcome. No need to book. Entry £5, to include a drink. Full time students free.

Make your OLD kitchen a NEW kitchen for a fraction of the cost of buying a new kitchen
After an initial meeting with Ben at Happy Kitchens we decided that the kitchen face lift option would not work for us. So we invited other kitchen companies to provide designs and quotations for a new kitchen so that we had a range of options to select from. The resulting designs were similar and the quotations were all in the same ball park. However, Ben was by far the most helpful as a potential supplier and this was important for us. He was more interested in ensuring we were happy with what he was proposing. Thank you Ben, Dan and James. The fitting team are fantastic, skilled and dedicated to making your Happy Kitchen perfect. They have a work pedigree that includes high end luxury boat building so their work quality is exquisite. You just need to keep them fueled with coffee and they also take away all the rubbish. I would happily recommend the Happy Kitchen team to anyone. Mr M. Hensman

INTERIOR DESIGN TRENDS NEW YEAR, NEW TRENDS
With a new season around the corner, Spring cleaning is in the forefront of our minds. Moving into a new decade, there are certain items in our homes that can feel slightly passĂŠ, and others that could define home style for the early 2020s. De-cluttering the home is always a therapeutic experience, but trying to work out what to get dispense of and what to retain can be tricky. It is certainly not our place to say whether to replace an item purely because it isn't en vogue; but if you are set on updating the look of your home, here is what is likely to be on trend for the coming decade.
BIOPHILIA Biophilia, meaning love of nature, focuses on our innate attraction to nature and natural processes. This is certainly a word we will be seeing used much more during 2020, seeing it translated into our homes in terms of adding greenery and houseplants. The houseplant has certainly seen a revival in recent years. Not only do they add to the overall aesthetic of a room, they also improve air quality and remove airborne toxins, pollens, bacteria and mould. Spider plants, ferns, cacti, aloe vera and cheese plants, are all easy to care for and would look stunning in any living room. FORGET GREY, GO GREEN Grey has been the go-to paint colour that has defined the past decade
in all its shades. The market is now completely saturated with various different shades of grey, and it is too soon to say whether it is over or not, but it is being phased out in favour of other colours.Warmers shades (see pink, peach, etc) are gradually replacing grey; but trend forecasters are predicting mint green or 'neo mint' to take its place in 2020. Described as 'an oxygenating, fresh tone that harmonises science and technology with nature', this bright, crisp, shade sounds very appealing. SUSTAINABLE FURNITURE Much like the fashion industry, consumers are looking for well designed furniture with longevity. When it comes to choosing new items of furniture in 2020, don't automatically go for the cheapest option. Find pieces that will last for many years and treat purchases as an investment.
ART DECO RETURNS! Harking back to the style of the original Roaring 20's, Art Deco inspired items are set to return - copper, gold or stainless steel are used in this interior trend for 2020. Mix plush fabrics and luxurious prints, glass and lacquer are also go-to styles.

Frequently Asked Questions
Here’s a selection of frequently asked questions especially for you sceptics (you know who you are). 1. When you say ‘carpet’ what do you mean? We mean average size areas, say 10x12ft ish. But we don’t quibble if the areas are a little larger - it’s all done on fairness really. 2. Do you move furniture? Our pricing policy reflects timecarpets it takes to clean working around furniture, rather than moving it. Have anythe three That said, we are for example, happy to move your three piece suite backwards and forwards cleaning and your three under it and replacing it back into piece position. What we don’t price into the job at these discount prices is moving large pieces of freshened furniture likeup bookcases, sideboards or wardrobes. Similarly we are not insured suite for to move electrical items, in particular flat-screen tvs. Again we apply common sense and fairness to the just £167! situation and inevitable we do end up moving some furniture around, even at these discount prices. 3. Are there any ‘hidden’ extra costs? The prices quoted above are fully-inclusive and are the actual prices you will pay.

ANDOVER CHORAL SOCIETY SATURDAY 2 MAY 2020, 7.30PM ST PAUL BY FELIX MENDELSSOHN AT ST MARY'S CHURCH, ANDOVER Andover Choral Society is performing St Paul, an oratorio by Felix Mendelssohn, which he was commissioned to start writing in 1831. Mendelssohn was inspired by his extensive knowledge of the bible and the dramatic possibilities of St Paul’s story. The work shows Mendelssohn’s classical elegance and understated emotion, but for many years this masterpiece was rarely heard. Andover Choral Society will show that this is a work which is full of melody and balance between the choir, soloists and orchestra, thanks to Peter Ford’s (our Musical Director) amazing production, to make this a very special evening indeed. We are pleased to announce that the Society are joined once again by wonderful professional soloists and an Orchestra of the highest calibre: The Westminster Chamber Orchestra. They are a passionate group of players with the skill and experience to deliver high-energy and emotional performances. The Orchestra accompanied the choir and professional soloists for our sell out performance of Mozart’s Requiem in May 2019 and more recently, our Venetian Evening in December 2019. Tickets £15 from the choir 01264 396511, or The Lights Theatre 01264 368368 and at www.thelights.org.uk Andover Choral Society are always keen to welcome new members. Rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings, 7.30-9.30pm at Bridge Street Methodist Church, Andover SP10 1BL. MINISTERIAL PRAISE FOR TEST VALLEY BOROUGH COUNCIL
LOCAL CHOIR IN EXCITING PROJECT WITH PRESTIGIOUS LONDON ORCHESTRA With 200 years of musical experience between them, The Hanover Band and Southampton Philharmonic Choir are embarking on an exciting two-year collaboration. What was originally envisaged as being part of the Band’s ambitious Beethoven 250 project, the collaboration has evolved into a two-year celebration of three of the most famous composers of their time. The Band and choir will perform together at Winchester Cathedral in the spring of each of the two years, and then in London, at St John’s Smith Square in the summer. This year, the planned concerts are Bach Mass in B Minor at Winchester Cathedral on 14 March 2020 followed by a Mozart programme in London on 7 June 2020 comprising Symphony No 39 in E flat and the wonderful Requiem. The plans for 2021 are performances of Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis at both Winchester Cathedral and St John’s Smith Square. This is a wonderful opportunity for Southampton Philharmonic Choir, who are delighted to be able to perform some of the most well-known pieces of classical music with the extraordinary Hanover Band, one of Britain’s finest period instrument orchestras. The two organisations have worked together on a number of projects since 2008, when they joined forces for a performance of Handel’s rarely heard Theodora. Despite the disparity in the number of members (the choir has some 160 singers at full strength), performing with a period orchestra provides a much more intimate atmosphere for concert goers.Tickets for the Mass in B Minor concert are available now from the Winchester Cathedral box office. THE HANOVER BAND Formed in London in 1980 and celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, the Hanover Band has an international reputation for the excellence of its performances and recordings of 18th and 19th century music alongside a commitment to the education of young players and developing new audiences. www.thehanoverband.com
SOUTHAMPTON PHILHARMONIC CHOIR Formed in 1860 and celebrating 160 years this year, Southampton Philharmonic Choir is one of the longest-established and most respected choirs in Southern England and performs choral music from the classical and contemporary repertoire with professional orchestras and soloists. The longevity of the ‘Phil’ is perhaps testament to the enduring appeal of choral singing. www.southamptonphil.org Image at top of article is courtesy of The Hanover Band
Test Valley Borough Council (TVBC) has received ministerial praise for successfully hitting its housebuilding target over the past three years. Since 2016 /17, the authority has delivered more than 2,500 new homes, including around 700 new affordable homes - helping people get on the housing ladder and to support those in the greatest need. The Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, Robert Jenrick MP, wrote to the leader of Test Valley Borough Council, Councillor Phil North, praising the council's performance and crediting the authority for “really rising to the challenge". He added: “I hope your effort will serve as a source of encouragement for other authorities and demonstrates what is possible when a local authority works with their community to produce a local plan and turns it into a reality". Portfolio Holder for Housing and Environmental Health, Councillor Phil Bundy, said: "It is great for TVBC to receive this acknowledgement. Of course, our success is not just about housing delivery but about ensuring we build the right homes in the right places, and that we work together across sectors to deliver the jobs and the infrastructure that are needed to accompany new homes. “Our borough is open for business and we are actively working with local communities to make a positive difference to people's lives. We are in the process of developing a new housing strategy and local plan for Test Valley, and looking to the future to determine how we can continue to deliver new homes that meet local residents' needs." TVBC has worked with developers and registered providers to deliver a wide range of new properties to suit a variety of needs, from onebedroom flats to large family homes. In 2019, TVBC ranked 31st out of 326 local authorities for housing delivery. www.testvalley.gov.uk/

WELLBEING
YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU’VE GOT TILL IT’S GONE We have it pretty good these days. Most of us don’t have to hunt, gather or even prepare our food anymore. We can travel without using our legs, we can open a door without using our hands, we can be entertained without moving a single body part.We are rapidly losing our innate movement patterns of squatting, hip hinging, pushing, pulling, twisting, climbing, walking and running. We are becoming scared to even try these movements, let alone add a load, for fear of pain or injury.
SO, DO YOU TRUST YOUR TAP WATER? Do you remember the last time you were able to trust and reconnect with the ancient fresh and wild therapeutic qualities of water? Though we would all love to have mountain spring water flowing into our homes! Our reality is different, we have grown accustomed to the Eau de toilette of Chlorine and would prefer not to dwell on the possibilities of what else might be finding its way into our tap water, such as micro-plastics, oestrogens, fluoride, and Glyphosate.(1) Does our distrust in tap water(2) persuade us to buy bottled water, even though we know this tethers us to the environmental catastrophe of more plastic bottle pollution? Is there a water system capable of removing the mischief in our tap water, whilst re-creating the therapeutic qualities of vital spring water? What value would we place on such an innovation? In 1979 Jochberg, Austria, just such an innovation was created, known as ‘Grander Water Revitalization’ This discovery challenges orthodox thinking and now 41 years later, along with many peer reviewed papers (3) .(4) (5) it is now clear that the science of water is far more complex than was first realized. As in the ancient theory of Homeopathy, water is now understood to have memory and the capacity to carry information (8). We have entered a new era of scientific understanding that gives us new distinctions in the science of water and the impact that water has on our cellular health.(6) (7) (8)(9)(10) To learn how you can change your tap water please call 0333 3909479 or email waterinfo@granderwater.co.uk References: (1) Journal of Developmental Origins of Health and Disease 2013 Aug; (2) If we care about plastic waste, why won’t we stop drinking bottled water? It seems to sneak up on us, without us even knowing, and suddenly; BANG, we realise we can no longer get up from sitting on the floor or even get down to the floor, stand on one leg, jump on a trampoline or run for the bus.We pick up injuries from insidious activities or can’t recover from an injury or we realise our health has been gradually deteriorating. We blame it on picking up the log basket, putting our socks on, stress at work, twisting to reach the bag on the back seat, the dog pulling on the lead, a virus, losing our balance. But what is it really? What is really going on? These are triggers to our injury or deteriorating health, and symptoms of a way bigger picture. The underlying cause is usually our lifestyle leading up to these events. The day we move from sitting on the floor in assembly and are promoted into the prestigious chair we begin to lose our natural movement patterns. Add in screen time from a young age, transport, processed food, pressure, stress and pollution, and gradually our health is undermined, weakening our organ functions, muscles, bones and immunity and disrupting our hormones. Life has become way too comfortable and convenient, and it is eroding our health and well-being. “We exist in a modern technological age; we can’t turn back the clock or expect to be able to live as we did as hunter gatherers. But we can relearn these deep connections to nature, ourselves, and each other and in doing so find profound states of wellbeing.”Tony Riddle SMALL CHANGES MAKE BIG DIFFERENCES: • Go barefoot as often as possible. • Lay out floor cushions and sit on the floor in the evenings. • Walk daily, different gradients, terrains and locations • Strength train three times a week. • Garden and forage for your food. • Cook from scratch. Embrace the extra movement food preparation brings as much as the nutritional benefits. • Squat often. Modify it if uncomfortable (example in picture), don’t avoid it. • Move more throughout your day, not just for an hour of exercise. • Incorporate a ten minute mindful or breathing practice to your day With small changes to our environment and mindset, we can relearn how to move more and feel better. In my women’s health Womo courses we explore the direct link between our deteriorating movement patterns and pelvic floor disorders, and take a wholebody whole-lifestyle approach for long term change and improvement. My next course begins in April and bookings are now open. You can visit the website for more information and to secure your place. Written by Emma Wightman www.the-sop.com

WELLBEING Reiki is most often used as a solution for people who are in pain—both physical and mental. "Reiki has a long healing tradition in medicine, particularly in the nursing world—it’s really safe and gentle. There’s actually a lot of anecdotal evidence that it can help your psychological wellbeing with no adverse effects. Regardless of whether you have a particular ailment or not this treatment is amazing for reducing stress and enabling clarity of thought,” explains Dorthe.
THE FORUM’S BEAUTY EDITOR TALKS TO AWARD WINNING THERAPIST DORTHE THOMAS ABOUT THE HEALTH GIVING BENEFITS OF REIKI AND ACCESS BARS Reiki is a Japanese spiritual healing technique in which practitioners can help your body heal itself through touch. “Rei” translates to “universe” or “life force,” and “ki” translates to the physical energy of the body; put together, Reiki translates to “universal life force energy.” In today’s world many of us are running around on empty, with just enough energy to get through what we have to do every day. What this means is there’s not a lot of energy left over for your body to work on maintenance, repair, and deeper healing. Dorthe, a Reiki Master with over twenty years’ experience explains, “the act of giving Reiki to someone is the process of giving them even more of the life energy that they already have— we give the body the extra energy to use how it needs”.
Our Award Winning treatments include your everyday beauty and wellbeing essentials; Facials, Waxing, Threading, Massage, Reflexology, Eyelash Extensions, Manicures, Pedicures and Spray Tan. We also specialise in advanced MediSpa treatments; IPL Hair Removal & Skin Rejuvenation, Dermaplaning, Medik8 Skin Peels, Derma Pen, Microblading, Lip Filler, Tattoo Removal, Vit B12 Injections, Profhilo, LipoContrast, Plasma Pen, Micro Needling & Cryotherapy
ANOTHER COMPLIMENTARY THERAPY DORTHE RECOMMENDS FOR TACKLING STRESS AND PROVIDING CLARITY IS ACCESS BARS The Access Bars are 32 bars of energy that run through and around your head, storing the electromagnetic component of all the thoughts, ideas, attitudes, decisions and beliefs that you have ever had about anything. There are bars for Healing, Body, Control, Awareness, Creativity, Power, Ageing, Sex and Money to name just a few. Dorthe explains, “The purpose of a Bars session is to clear away any previous negative emotions and experiences linked to those points, enabling you to gain clarity and a fresh perspective on your life.” Having your Bars run can have so many profound beneficial effects, including: reduced stress and worry, increased energy, elimination of aches, pains and stiffness in the body, improved sleep and help with Autism, ADD & ADHD. This is an incredibly nurturing and relaxing process, undoing limitation in all aspects of your life. At worst you feel like you have just had the best massage of your life, at best your whole life can change into something greater with total ease. If you would like to find out more about how these treatments could benefit you please get in touch on 01264 748300 or email info@ dorthethomasspa.com. www.dorthethomasspa.com

PROFESSIONAL science. Indeed, in some co-ed schools not a single girl studies physics A level. At St Swithun’s, maths and science are all popular A level subjects. Which doesn’t mean that girls have to study science at St Swithun’s, but simply that if they do that is normal and if they don’t that is also normal. Research reveals that girls also adapt their behaviour outside the classroom to societal expectations. For example, they come to believe that they shouldn’t apply for jobs unless they match 100% of the job description, but girls educated in single-sex schools are more likely to be risk takers in educational and professional terms.
WHY MIGHT A GIRLS’ SCHOOL BE THE RIGHT CHOICE? There is some evidence that suggests that girls get better academic results in a single-sex environment, but for me by far the most compelling advantage of a girls’ school is simply that in a single sex environment it is easier to be yourself.
Girls can choose how to behave without having to consider whether it is appropriately feminine. It is no accident that girls’ schools have higher percentages of girls studying subjects considered ‘male’ such as maths or

EDUCATION PROFESSIONAL Within the property market, there is much written about when is the best time to buy and sell. Just like trading other investments you can try to play the market to your advantage, and this certainly applies with investment buyers, but when it comes to selling a home, it is often more about the right time for you rather than trying to judge the seasonal and economic market. There are inevitably peaks and troughs during every year but this doesn’t take into account your own reasons for wanting to sell.
WHEN IS THE RIGHT TIME TO SELL? This is a question I am often asked and the straightforward answer is, the right time to sell is when it’s the right time for you.
BRINGING OUT THE BEST IN YOUR CHILD
An Embley, education is about the formation of individuals where the academic disciplines facilitate their growth intellectually and emotionally as well as spiritually. Children are not compared to each other, instead we approach their development with a degree of personalisation that is unique. Academically, every child has a bespoke set of objectives, tailored to their abilities and needs. In incremental stages, they are encouraged and supported to be their own person and achieve. The effectiveness of Embley’s approach is proven by three consecutive years of recordbreaking public examination results. Modern foreign languages and philosophy are taught from Nursery and the school’s Stock Market Investment Club sees children across our Prep and Senior Schools trade on the London market and learn to manage investment funds. Sixth formers expand their business acumen and learn about sustainable development with Embley’s MBA Experience in partnership with Winchester University. Across the school our digital learning strategy, which has seen the children engage and
So, be clear as to what you want to achieve and then plan accordingly. Generally, if you are selling you are likely to be buying at the same time, so any fluctuations in the market can be offset. Once you have made the decision to sell then timings around what you are trying to achieve are important. Plan ahead and allow plenty of time to speak to the experts. Mortgage Brokers, Accountants, Solicitors and, of course, Property Agents all have an important part improve through its implementation, has been shortlisted for a national education award. Set in 130 acres of rolling parkland on the edge of the New Forest near Romsey, where the school and boarding house occupy the family home of Florence Nightingale, one might be forgiven for thinking of Embley as a ‘digital Downton’ - all of the tradition one expects from an independent day and boarding school for girls and boys in the country but with a cutting 21st century edge. www.embley.org.uk

to play in the process. They will be able to provide clarity where needed and not just in relation to values, taxes or lenders but processes, timings and legislation. Having worked in the industry in the South of England for almost 20 years, one thing I am confident of is that buyers choose locations for schooling, work, retirement, access and natural beauty and fortunately our region offers the very best. WILL STUART, PLAYING FOR BATH (WITH THE BALL)
FORMER FARLEIGH SCHOOL PUPIL PLAYS AT SIX NATIONS Local boy and former Farleigh School pupil, Will Stuart, 23, who plays tighthead prop for Bath in the Premiership, had his first cap for England against France in the 2020 Six Nations Championship. Will was part of a really talented year group at Farleigh, who were unbeaten in their final season (2009) and won four 7s tournaments. In those days,Will had to starve before the weigh in just to make the match day team! Fr Simon Everson, Headmaster at Farleigh School, says, “I enjoyed telling all the children in assembly that a boy who played out on our
fields here is representing England in the Six Nations. What an inspiration he is to them.
Godolphin’s largest ever group of over thirty students and staff from Godolphin slept overnight in the Cloisters of Salisbury Cathedral on Friday 7 February. The Godolphin team joined other schools, local groups and individuals who were all was raising vital funds and awareness for Alabaré's work with homeless and vulnerable people in Wiltshire.
We looked back at our sports reviews from 2009 and found this quote: “Then there is Will Stuart: physical, determined and abrasive without fear to go forward all the time.” So not much has changed much in that time! We are delighted for Will and hope that he retains his place in the England squad.”
“Sleeping out in the Cloisters will help the girls to understand the plight of the homeless. We’re so grateful for the amazing support we’ve received and we’re thrilled to have reached our £3,000 target with our fundraising. Thank you to everyone who has donated to this wonderful cause. This event brings together the community of Salisbury, of which we are proud to be a part, as well as helping those who are less fortunate than ourselves.”
