LUMIERE XXL - XXS Concept

New sizes and a completely rethought design with respect to the ‘classic’ Lumiere. One year on from the launch of Lumiere XXL, a name that evokes the collection’s twenty years success story, here today are the new versions.

Versions Table XXS - XXL Wall/Ceiling XXS - XXL

For the new table version, the same harmonious shapes, the same juxtaposition of materials and finishes as Lumiere XXL are evident but in another size, smaller, suitable for a range of environments. The combination of different colours for tripod and diffuser changes its style and personality: all white, or white and bronze, black and bronze, black and white. The black blown glass diffuser is ‘’sleeved’, that is black on the outside but white on the inside, providing improved light diffusion and an even colour performance. The wall and ceiling versions make each environment their own through their energy.

Colours Black/white diffuser White/bronze base

Design Material Blown glass and lacquered aluminium

The diffuser used in the Lumiere XXL and Lumiere XXS table versions displays new geometric lines, together with a more marked profile and new lacquered finish for the metal tripod. Its appearance is still harmonious and elegant, influential but not ostentatious, based on the contrast between the craftwork of the glass and technology, represented by the metal. The wall and ceiling versions are characterised by their dynamic look, given by the direction of the diffuser’s upper area, which is oblique with respect to the support surface, thanks to a cut that divides the glass in a surprising and original way.

Light Diffused Direct

Soft, enveloping and even, the light suffuses from the blown glass diffuser body. The wall and ceiling versions, which use low energy bulbs, guarantee a warm even light.

Use

Whether on a bedside table or console, the Lumiere XXS table version imprints the entire surrounding environment with its personality, also through its different tripod/diffuser colour combinations. The contemporary simplicity of the wall and ceiling versions lends itself to numerous contexts for use: from all those situations ideal for a wall light, like in a passageway, to its use as a bedside lamp. Using the two sizes in multiple arrangements or just by turning the glass in a different direction, interplay of balanced and lively arrangements can be created.

Designer Rodolfo Dordoni

Architect, his work ranges from artistic director to furniture design, and lamp design, from redevelopment planning, to setting up exhibitions, showrooms and points of sale. Some of the most famous items of Italian design carry his signature. For Foscarini, he designed Lumiere and New Buds.

Commercial value

New directions and a fresh interpretation of one of Foscarini’s most famous models, a best seller for 20 years. The Lumiere XXS table version offers an intermediate size between the two classic Lumiere sizes, for new areas of use. The wall and ceiling versions complete the family in an original way. The use of low energy light bulbs make the model attractive to use in the contract sector too.

GREGG Concept

An incandescent mass, transformed by life-giving breath into an organic yet geometric shape, mysterious as a dragon’s egg, nonetheless as familiar as what we see in nature. Gregg is the contemporary expression of an ageold material: blown glass.

Versions Floor lamp large tall, large low, medium tall, medium low

The attraction of its range and incredible versatility of use have been the keys to the collection’s success, now extended with a floor lamp version. There are two heights available which can take either average or large diffusers. Result: four different looks for a wide variety of interior uses.

Also in the family are: Hanging small, medium, large Ceiling/Wall small, medium Table small, medium, large Colour White

Material Blown glass with satin finish

All of Gregg’s elegance and personality traits are seen here in the design of the stem. A stylish sweep unites the base to the mass of blown glass with energy that surprises for its ability to take on a different look according to the observer’s perspective. To create this design, the stem has been produced in polyurethane, making it even more pleasing to the touch. The lamp’s stability is ensured by an internal metal core.

Light Diffused

Excellent light diffusion is ensured by the bulb being completely enclosed by the glass.

Use

The choice of matching the base in two different heights with medium or large glass offers in fact four different looks which interpret a multiplicity of interior options. The small version can be used for reading, to light a seating corner in a discrete yet efficient way, while the large version is ideal to emphasise or suffuse an area with its characteristic soft, consistent light. Arranging the various sizes to form a set piece offers the possibility to create highly dynamic component inter-action.

Designer Ludovica + Roberto Palomba

Architects and designers, their work covers architecture, design, artistic direction, marketing and expos for internationally renowned companies in various sectors relating to furnishings. And for Foscarini, they designed Fly-Fly.

Commercial value

Extending the range of a highly successful family of lamps. At a time when people are tiring of excessive minimalism, Gregg represents a fascinating alternative: it emanates strong, yet discrete, personality and it is so very easy to find just the right place for it. Gregg standard lamp affirms the collection’s basic features, reprising in the stem’s design, simple but creative, all the model’s refined originality: blown glass intriguingly shaped, in no way banal, for a light both typical yet with a fresh approach. Further proof of how to create a blown glass model ‘outside the box’, which has always been the spirit of Foscarini. There is no end to the ways to position or group it, thanks to the four different glass/base combinations.

APLOMB Concept

The name has two meanings: it originates from the lead plumb line used in construction to identify, thanks to the pull of gravity, a vertical line. But in French it also means ‘laid back, self confident’. Aplomb came into being in fact as a reaction to the widespread clinical feel of minimalist interiors, embodied in a humble, crude material, traditionally worked on by experienced workman’s hands: cement.

Versions Hanging

Small hanging lamp offered in three, coloured finishes which celebrate its personality, bringing together different styles, from the traditional grey of cement in its raw state, which adds depth to the volumes, to a stylish white hue, and a warm intense brown.

Colours Grey, white, brown Design Material Cement

In modern architecture, visible cement is used as a decorative element. Foscarini has adopted the same philosophy with Aplomb, conferring an aesthetic value to a material usually viewed as rough and humble. So, for Foscarini, cement has become a new language to explore. The challenge was to carry out an exceptional jump in scale from the great architectural structures to a small hanging lamp, with a thickness of just a few millimetres at its narrowest, while using such an unforgiving material. This challenge was overcome with the aid of a special amalgam, which is particularly fluid in the mould and produces a surface that appears rough, but which is gentle to the touch, refined by a layer of transparent finish. The lamp has a light design, with the characteristic shape of an upsidedown funnel, which softens the solid bulk of the concrete while celebrating its material aspect.

Light Direct Accurate

Aplomb facilitates the creation of direct and accurate lighting.

Use

Perfect for occasional tables, peninsulas and counters, either on its own or in a group. Its shape is ideal for use in composite arrangements.

Designer Lucidi e Pevere Design Studio

Paolo Lucidi and Luca Pevere got together at well-known design offices in Milan. In 2002 they signed their first commissions together and, in 2006, establish Studio LucidiPevere in Milan. These days, Studio LucidiPevere is based in Udine and still undertakes industrial design work for internationally renowned companies (such as Norman Copenhagen), belonging to a large number of different sectors.

Commercial value

A suspended body which projects light without however being lit itself. Aplomb in fact guarantees a striking light, with an effect similar to industrial light or by recessed spotlights, with a definite presence but still discrete in terms of size and shape. It owes its personality to the depth, to the pliability of the material – cement – used as a decorative element in contemporary architecture. Aplomb is therefore ideal for use in any environment which draws inspiration from this language, not only in its grey version, but also in the fresh new versions where we have succeeded, by adding colour to the cement, in bringing warmth to the material (brown version), or making it more stylish (white version). Aplomb marries unconventionality and the material’s richness with the discrete charm of its very essence. 15

BAHIA Concept

Bahia, a name that evokes white beaches, sunny climes and the elegance of the Bossa Nova, all encapsulated in a wall lamp that attracts and captivates with its sinuous design and the innovative interplay of light and shade produced.

Versions Wall

A wall lamp in one single pure colour, white, which emphasises its theatrical essence, its being without appearing. The white is opaque on the plates’ upper section, softening the light, becoming polished on the section underneath, so the light reflects more efficiently. This touch helps to make the delicate interplay of tones, light and shade stand out.

Colours White

Design Material Polycarbonate

The design’s attraction is the result of three overlapping plates, with an asymmetrical profile and position. The shape is seductive, transmitting a relaxing, positive feeling as it recalls the shapes we are used to seeing in nature. It takes us back for example to the aerial vision of an archipelago that diffuses its colour nuances by delineating concentric areas.

Light Diffused

The first two plates house the light source, accompanying and embracing the light that flows across their concave surfaces and fades towards the edges. The third element completes the composition, standing out against the light to give a strong, contrasting effect. When off, it displays a sculpture like appearance while, lit, it becomes a magic composition of light and dark, whose every flash of light is contained within another, more extensive and suffused.

Use Large walls Home/Contract environment

Poetic, living and ethereal, Bahia, due to its reduced thickness, is able to decorate an entire wall on its own, or create an infinity of arrangements, luminous archipelagos in domestic or shared environments.

Designer Lucidi e Pevere Design Studio

Paolo Lucidi and Luca Pevere have a great deal of experience at wellknown design offices in Milan. In 2002 they sign their first commissions together and, in 2006, establish Studio LucidiPevere in Milan. These days, Studio LucidiPevere is based in Udine and still undertakes industrial design work for internationally renowned companies (such as Norman Copenhagen), belonging to a large number of different sectors.

Commercial value

Large-scale wall lamps, lovely when lit but also highly dramatic even when off. Bahia is both light source and luminous decoration, easy to place in an environment thanks to slim shape and neutral colour. This model is also highly decorative, conveying sensations not just through its sensual shape but through the enchanting luminous effect produced. Bahia is ideal for adding a hint of softness to a wall, both highly evocative yet, at the same time, truly elegant. Group arrangements of this lamp, even turning it in different directions, turns the wall into a backdrop for original visual interplay.

TUA Concept

Tua is inspired by the palm of a hand containing a light: a reassuring gesture transformed into a single, shaped metal plane that becomes both the support and screen for the lamp. The answer to the question Whose lamp is this? It’s Tua – yours – as the name of the lamp says. Tua immediately reveals its intimate relationship with the user.

Versions Table

A table lamp in just one colour, white, which tests the boundaries of size, and exposes its strong personality.

Colour White Design Material Aluminium

A single movement, a twist, gives the object a three-dimensional aspect. A single, very thick metal component enhances its physical presence and resistance, and a single colour – pure white – defines its volumes by contrast.

Light Direct Reflecting

The light source is hidden within the range of the curve, featuring a fine cut which adds to the lamp’s aesthetic elegance. When lit, the light radiates a halo of welcoming intimacy. The external plane remains in shadow and therefore appears darker against the lit interior area. An interplay of light and shade, outside and in, emphasises the lamp’s personality.

Use Bedside table Worktable

This lamp is ideal for environments such as bedside tables or worktables, but also fits easily into multi-use environments: indoors and out, two or three dimensional, as a statement and for everyday use. Always elegant, reassuring and friendly.

Designer Marco Zito

Architect. Since 1996 he has lectured at the Faculty of Art and Design at the University of Venice as well as San Marino University. His studio, based in Venice, works in product design and development, and architecture. Marco Zito has a great deal of experience in the lighting sector. For Foscarini, he designed Flap.

Commercial value

The perfect ‘take away’ lamp in terms of design, packaging and price. Lovely in its starkly simple but unmistakeable design, symbolic, creating warmth with its light. Tua creates, as immediately evident from the name, meaning yours in Italian, an intimate relationship with whoever chooses it. Even the packaging has been designed expressly to emphasise the product’s features and convey the idea of a ‘take-away’. This also helps to draw attention to a small model when on display, and it can then be used as window dressing, arranged as a group, or even stacked. Tua is the perfect gift idea for lovers of items with high designer input.

TROAG Concept

It is inspired by a Swedish tröag, a canoe-shaped wooden bowl used for crushing fruit – an object that is much more than a household utensil, because it is handed down from generation to generation.

Versions Hanging in three sizes

Hanging lamp in wood, available in three finishes – natural wood, brown and black lacquer – and three different sizes – small, medium and large, which is over 2 metres long.

Colours Natural wood, black, brown Design Material Wood

A brand new hanging lamp, a graceful symbol, linear and suspended, which emanates a sense of easy familiarity due to the use of a warm material like wood. It is made of multilayered, heat-curved wood whose edges are specially milled to create an inclined, dynamic profile, emphasised by the grain of the wood.

Light Direct

Troag’s design enables the optimum use of light, concentrating the flow downwards to light tables or surfaces in a uniform manner. It provides a warm light, thanks to an opaline screen that acts as a diffuser. An extremely well connected panel encloses the lower section, hiding the technical parts from view and protecting against glare, thereby allowing the light to be used at different heights. The light is slightly directed upwards as well through two slits in the upper section.

Use Offices Conference rooms Work surfaces

Ideal for providing an even intense light over kitchen islands and even extremely long surfaces, laid out in sequence. The use of wood conveys a feeling of warmth and familiarity to the lamp, making it perfect for use at home or at work.

Designer Luca Nichetto

Luca Nichetto was born in Venice where, after first studying at the Istituto d’Arte, he then graduated in Industrial Design. In 2006, he set-up his studio, Nichetto&Partners. Today, he works with numerous internationally prestigious firms. For Foscarini he has designed O-Space, Gea, Wagashi, and Empire.

Commercial value

A hanging lamp which provides, on its own and with the stylish elegance of wood, an answer to the problem of lighting different-sized surfaces, even extremely long ones. Troag is a fresh and lively new arrival on the market. With its use of wood and boldly linear design, this model successfully transfers the feeling of warmth and familiarity to a practical technical light that is usually thought of as cold.
