The Ghan
An epic 3-day journey of around 3000km from the coastal capital of the tropical Northern Territory, through the unparalleled russet-coloured landscape of the “Red Centre” and lush green winelands of the south, on board the longest passenger train in the world is not to be missed! The gleaming silver train stretches as far as the eye can see to staggering lengths of over a kilometre, and provides the backdrop to stargazing in the heart of the uninhabited outback.
If taking The Ghan Expedition Route (which includes an extra day) there is the opportunity to add on an optional scenic flight to majestic Uluru and explore the giant sacred monolith from the air and the ground as well as a visit to Coober Pedy and the middle-of-nowhere station of Manguri - so remote there really is no other way to access this desolate outpost. The Ghan operates weekly in both directions excluding from mid-December to mid-January.

From the Indian Ocean to the Pacific Ocean, the sparkling sister train to The Ghan gets its name from the almost 4,500km journey across the wilds of Australia from west-toeast, coast-to-coast, meandering along the longest single stretch of railroad in the world.
