Dear Traveller
It is a very exciting time for all of us at AmaWaterways. Just 12 years ago, three people started this company with a simple vision: Make our guests happy by providing the best river cruise experiences possible.
I still fondly remember that first year, when it was me, Kristin Karst and Jimmy Murphy all working out of a small office to get this idea that we loved off the ground – or, should I say, afloat. Since then, we have grown tremendously, with the number of ships, awards, itineraries and – most important of all – happy guests increasing every year. Through it all, we have remained family owned and operated, and I’m always delighted that when we hire someone new, I get to say, “Welcome to the Ama family.” In 2016, we’re pleased to welcome the brand new AmaViola and AmaStella to our worldwide fleet as well as introducing our newest cruise in the famous Bordeaux region of France. To this day, we remain dedicated to the happiness of our guests, focusing always on innovation, excellent service, the best onboard experience and immersive itineraries. Whichever destination you decide to explore withus, you’re sure to fall in love with our river cruises. Along with the rest of the Ama family, I look forward to welcoming you on board soon.

About AmaWaterways At AmaWaterways, we love working to provide our guests with only the best travel experiences. In fact, “Ama” is derived from the Latin word for “love” – an energy that we put into crafting every aspect of our river cruises. It is this passion that fuels our attention to detail, commitment to innovation and culture of making our guests our top priority. This is something you can feel from the moment you step on board, which is why all of our guests have a story about why their cruise with Ama was the best they’ve ever taken. With award-winning ships that feature an array of amenities, a variety of immersive shore excursions, critically-acclaimed dining and unparalleled service, AmaWaterways cruises are a traveller’s dream. We truly love having our guests on board, and it shows.
The Family Difference Our company has been family-owned and operated since 2002 by travel industry pioneers: President Rudi Schreiner, Executive Vice President Kristin Karst, Co-founder Jimmy Murphy, and his son, Gary Murphy. Together, they have made AmaWaterways the most distinctive line in the entire industry. Their hands-on approach to management allows us to give attention to every detail, making an AmaWaterways river cruise truly stand out from the rest.

Our Accommodation
Unprecedented Top 11
In the first ever Berlitz River Cruising in Europe travel guide, more than 280 ships were rated based on hardware, accommodation, cuisine, service and other miscellaneous features. All eleven AmaWaterways ships that were assessed earned the highest rating given and received higher scores than any other river cruise line. The AmaPrima was rated the highest of any ship, followed closely by the rest of our European fleet. More than 280 river cruise vessels that were reviewed based on accommodation, dining, service, and other onboard features, Ama’s ships took the top 11 spots in the rankings.

Cruise & Comfort in Style Our ships are inspired by luxury yachts and designed specifically to maximise every aspect of our guests’ experience. You will notice the difference the minute you step on board and are welcomed in the beautiful lobby. From then on, you will be treated to an array of unique and luxurious features as you journey along your itinerary in your floating hotel. Relax and delight in stunning views in our spacious staterooms, many of which feature twin balconies – a French balcony and an outside balcony. Enjoy exclusive amenities such as massage services, a fitness room and a pool while on board. Indulge in awardwinning cuisine at a variety of dining venues, including The Chef’s Table specialty restaurant – an experience you won’t find elsewhere. No matter how you spend your time, you’re sure to see why AmaWaterways ships are considered the best in Europe.
Spacious The personal space and comfort of our guests are of the utmost importance to us. We carry fewer people on board so that staterooms and public spaces, such as lounges and restaurants, are roomy and never overcrowded. This also allows our crew to embrace a proactive approach to exceeding expectations and dedicate their time to focusing on the needs of each and every guest.
Innovative Our staterooms feature twin balconies – a French balcony and an outside balcony – and these can be found on a number of our ships in a variety of stateroom categories. Innovation continues to be a driving force in every new vessel we design. We invest a great deal of time into building our ships because we want each one to be perfect, down to every last detail. We also enhance and refresh our existing ships every year so that guests receive a consistent experience no matter which major European waterway they choose to cruise on.

The Chobe This scenic and amazing waterway, only 50 miles from Victoria Falls, forms the northern boundary of Chobe National Park. It passes through the game-rich ‘Four Corners’ region where Namibia, Zambia, Botswana and Zimbabwe meet, home to nearly 500 species of birds and the largest concentration of elephants in Africa. The river is a rich haven for wildlife, particularly during the dry season from May to October, when water further inland is scarce. In addition to elephants, a variety of other animals are drawn to this important water source, including lions, jackals, leopards, hyenas, giraffes, monkeys, kudu and impalas. Our Africa itinerary, which is a unique combination of a river cruise and immersive land programme, is the ultimate way to experience this mustsee part of the world.
The Mekong Cruise through Vietnam and Cambodia on the fabled Mekong River, also known as the “Mother of Water.” For centuries, the sagas of ancient empires, colonial powers and modern conflicts have unfolded along its banks. To this day, the river serves as a vital lifeline to millions of people, and on our river cruises you will experience a compelling contrast of past and present. Witness Sampans and motorboats yield to one another as cone-hatted fishermen check their nets while chatting on mobile phones. Take in serene monasteries and thatched stilt huts, as well as dense cityscapes in capitals like Phnom Penh. It is an awe-inspiring spectacle that simply must be seen to be believed. Wherever the Mekong takes you, the sincere warmth and friendliness of the Vietnamese and Cambodian people will leave a lasting impression.
The Ayeyarwady There is no better time than now to explore Myanmar (Burma), where travellers are welcome to experience a land and culture that has been closed off to the rest of the world for decades. Explore this mystic and spiritual destination along the Ayeyarwady, where you will see former royal Capitals, thousands of temples and pagodas, and authentic daily life – smiling women in bright sarongs, dark-robed monks and rice farmers leading ox carts. Myanmar is rich with timeless and exotic sights, and the gracious Burmese people are eager to show off their beautiful, unspoiled country.

Authentic Experiences
On our exotic itineraries, you will have unique opportunities to not only see the sights, but also be immersed in the destination you are visiting. We have carefully selected excursions that will place you amidst the rich and colourful culture of the local inhabitants, rather than merely on the outskirts. Be an adventurer by day – explore the ruins of ancient temples, be blessed by monks in remote monasteries, and delve into the unexplored, untried and unfamiliar. These truly are journeys of a lifetime, and you are sure to return with photos and stories that you can share with friends and family for years to come. From safaris by boat in search of Africa’s “gentle giants” to a trishaw ride down the local streets of Vietnam, no matter which itinerary you choose, an adventure awaits you.

Responsibility towards the environment forms the foundation upon which the Zambezi Queen was built. • A water jet propulsion system replaces the conventional propeller system, causing no damage to the river bed. • Only the latest fuel efficient and low emission generators are run during daylight hours, with the boat operating on battery power through the night. • Hot water is provided by a solar heating system. • Energy-saving lights throughout. • Water-saving taps and showers. • Onboard sewage processing plant. • Cleaning detergents and soaps are biodegradable. Five-stage water purification plant, using river water in showers and tap.
