The Brahmaputra While most Indian rivers bear female names, this river has a rare male name,as it means "son of Brahma" in Sanskrit. From its source in southwest Tibet, the mighty Brahmaputra runs 1,800 miles through the Himalayas, across the Assam basin and down towards Bangladesh, eventually meeting with India’s holiest river, the Ganges. The average depth of the river is 124 feet (38 m) and maximum depth is 380 feet (120 m)

LAND HIGHLIGHTS Taj Mahal UNESCO World Heritage Centre An immense mausoleum of white marble, built in Agra between 1631 and 1648 by order of the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his favourite wife, the Taj Mahal is the jewel of Muslim art in India and one of the universally admired masterpieces of the world's heritage.

LAND HIGHLIGHTS Thimphu The capital of Bhutan, Thimphu is situated amongst the mighty Himalayas approximately 2000 metres above sea level. Visit the National Library which houses an extensive collection of ancient Buddhist literature as well as Zorig Chusum and the colourful farmers market.

Amber Fort A magnificent fort, largely made up of a royal palace, built from pale yellow and pink sandstone and white marble. It’s divided into four main sections, each with its own courtyard.

Punakha The Punakha Dzong, a 17th century fortress which has had an important influence on modern Bhutan. This Dzong was the second to be built in Bhutan and it served as the capital and seat of government until the mid1950’s. All Bhutan’s kings have been crowned here. The Dzong is still winter residence of the Dratshang (official monk body).
