WORLD CRUISE 2018 Visiting the wonders of the world

DISCOVER THE WONDERS OF THE WORLD Join elegant Black Watch on this trip of a lifetime. Indulge your wanderlust with a seemingly endless list of inspirational landmarks, from magnificent spectacles created by mankind to wonders crafted by the forces of nature. The epitome of adventure. This unforgettable cruise voyage is the rare chance to visit five of the seven New Wonders of the World – Chichén Itzá, the Colosseum, the ‘Lost City’ of Petra, Machu Picchu and the Taj Mahal – plus the only surviving Ancient Wonder, the Great Pyramid of Giza. There’s a whole host of natural wonders along the way too, including the enchanting Galápagos Islands, from Manta; mystical Komodo dragons (one of the ‘New Wonders of Nature’); and the Great Barrier Reef, which can be witnessed up close from the comfort of your ship. The impressive Panama and Suez canals mark the journey between oceans, punctuating visits to ancient monuments such as the Temple of Artemis from Kus¸adasi and the mysterious Moai statues on Easter Island. If that’s not enough, this collection of world-famous sights is expertly mixed with some of the planet’s finest cities: the 'New Wonder Cities' of Havana and Kuala Lumpur, laid-back Auckland, culture-rich Singapore and iconic Sydney, to name just a few. And you can rest assured effortless relaxation is thrown into the mix too, from the blissful paradise island of Bora Bora to the crystal-clear waters and reefs of Sharm el-Sheikh. Spanning six continents, in a showcase of the world’s diverse beauty, this is a journey you’ll want to never end.

THE FRED. OLSEN DIFFERENCE

We don’t have the newest ships. We don’t have zip wires, wave machines or climbing walls. We don’t have celebrity chefs or cocktail mixologists. What we do have is long-serving staff carefully chosen for their friendly, caring personalities, ‘real ships’ that are regularly improved so they cater for your every need, cuisine carefully prepared by chefs who care about their craft, not their egos, and – most importantly – a passion to show you the very best of the world. Most cruise lines try to keep you on their ship so you’ll spend more money with them. We encourage you to head off on a journey of discovery in every destination. There are more places to see in the world than anyone could fit in one lifetime – but at Fred. Olsen we think there’s no harm in trying.

SMALLER BUT SPACIOUS

A smaller ship doesn’t mean less room; far from it. Built for longer voyages, Black Watch has comfortable cabins with ample space and all the facilities you’ll need to enjoy your holiday. In fact, our rooms are comparable in size to those on some of the mammoth cruise ships – while Black Watch is of a more accessible size, you can have just as much private space. With fewer people on board it’s easy to find a quiet spot to relax in peace with a drink or a good book. There’s room to stretch out by the pool and you can get ashore more quickly – without the need to fight for space with hordes of people. And when you’re ashore, you’re seeing the best of each port of call with hundreds of others – not thousands – giving you a better, more authentic experience. It's not just seeing the world, it's who you see it with that counts.

BRINGING YOU CLOSER

Black Watch’s size advantage means we can take you to places that some of the larger cruise vessels can’t. We dock closer to the heart of some of the world’s most beautiful cities and can take you on scenic cruises showcasing breathtaking landscapes. Our ‘Wonders of the World’ voyage has been expertly planned to make the most of this advantage, at every opportunity.

ALMOST EVERYTHING’S INCLUDED IN YOUR WORLD CRUISE PRICE:

• Comfortable en-suite accommodation with TV, hairdryer, tea & coffee making facilities and individually controlled air conditioning • All meals throughout your cruise – from five-course à la carte dining to casual buffets and late-night snacks • Self-service tea & coffee at selected venues, afternoon tea with sandwiches and cakes, and in-room sandwiches and snacks • On board leisure facilities including gym, swimming pools and Jacuzzis • A choice of daily on board activities and lectures • All evening entertainment, including dancing, cabaret shows and live music • Captain’s Drinks Party and Gala Buffet • All UK port taxes (where collectable in advance) • Baggage porterage between your room and the drop-off/pick-up point

AWARD-WINNING CRUISES

We’ll always do our best to give you the holiday of a lifetime – but we think our guests and travel industry experts are the best judges of how we’re doing. That’s why it’s so pleasing that the dedication and hard work of our staff has been recognised in many awards over the course of the last year, including: Best for Itineraries; Britain’s Best Cruise Line for Food 2015; silver for both Best Small Ships Cruise Line and Best Cruise Line for Customer Service; and five categories in the influential 2015 Cruise Critic UK Cruisers’ Choice Awards. Although we’re a small company, we were joint-second in the most recent Which? Cruise Survey, receiving a rating of 85%: an achievement all our staff and crews are immensely proud of. Finally, and most importantly, in over 15,000 reviews from past guests, 95% rated us Excellent or Good, with Feefo awarding us a Gold Trusted Merchant Accreditation – in recognition of our excellence in customer service – for the third year in a row. Perhaps that’s why most people who try us once choose to cruise with us again. There’s never been a better time to get on board with Fred. Olsen. U.K.

FOOD, GLORIOUS FOOD

Dining on board is one of the marks of quality that set Fred. Olsen apart; you can rest assured it will be one of the highlights of your holiday. Whether you’re tasting our delicious à la carte menu, enjoying a sublime feast from the buffet, or sampling the heavenly accompaniments to afternoon tea, each will have been painstakingly crafted by our team of expert chefs. With award-winning food and a friendly, more personal style of service, you’ll see why dining on board is one of the reasons people love cruising with Fred. Olsen. Should you have any special dietary requests, just let us know when you make your booking. We’ll do our best to make sure that your needs are met whenever we can.

STAYING SHIP SHAPE

A round the world voyage with Fred. Olsen is the ideal way to escape the stresses of modern life and reward yourself to the max, but enjoying well-deserved treats doesn’t mean you have to stray from your usual healthy lifestyle. Black Watch has plenty of facilities and services to help you stay in shape, including a gym, swimming pools, golf nets, a tennis court, an array of fitness classes and healthy eating choices. You can even take a stroll along the ship's open deck and breathe in the fresh sea air. If you’re after a little extra pampering, the Atlantis Spa offers a range of treatments, from manicures to massages. The soothing surroundings create the ideal place to unwind after all that exploration.

ON BOARD ENTERTAINMENT

We work tirelessly to ensure your on board experience is just as memorable, enjoyable and enriching as your time spent ashore. By day you’ll find Bridge classes, arts and crafts lessons and entertaining quizzes, as well as guest speakers giving insightful lectures on their fields of expertise. Perhaps take the chance to learn a new skill or brush up on a favourite hobby: there may be language classes, ballroom dancing lessons, theatre workshops, photography talks, watercolour tutorials and more. You may wish to relax with a book from the library, enjoy a classic movie in the Marina Theatre or even watch one of the latest releases in the comfort of your room. Your on board Daily Times newsletter will keep you updated with what’s on. We also host port talks to enhance your time ashore, sharing the knowledge of what's best to see and do. And when the sun sets, the sparkle of cabaret, comedy and music brings the evenings alive, with orchestras, string trios, pianists, musicians, entertainers and shows. Simply sit back and savour it all.

YOUR TIME ASHORE

This 'Wonders of the World' voyage has been carefully designed to show you an almost endless array of fascinating places, reaching all corners of the globe. To ensure you gain the most from your experiences ashore, we offer extended stays in a number of ports. There’s also a fantastic range of Shore Tours, from transfers to take you to the local highlights so you can explore at your leisure, all the way through to immersive, longer overland tours, which venture further for an authentic insight into the region. You’ll be able to explore the best of every destination. The experiences featured in this brochure may be enjoyed independently and/or with optional Fred. Olsen Shore Tours.

Shore Tours are available for a supplement and are subject to availability and service provision. Please register an e-mail address with us via our website (fredolsencruises.com) to be the first to hear about Shore Tours and when they are available to book. Shore Tours booklets will also be posted to guests prior to departure.

THE AZORES, CARIBBEAN & CENTRAL AMERICA Calls into two Azorean Islands provide a superb start to your adventure. See the glistening bluegreen crater lakes of Sete Cidades – one of the seven Natural Wonders of Portugal – and take a thrilling Jeep ride to view Capelinhos, the volcano that rose from the sea in 1957. Across the Atlantic you’ll be greeted by Bermuda’s balmy warmth and an air of elegance in Tucker's Town – an exclusive area that includes Billionaire’s Row, home to wealthy sunseekers from around the globe. Or venture out to the Crystal Caves where stalactites and stalagmites reflect in the unbelievably clear waters below. An overnight stay in culture-rich Havana allows time to see all the sights, before Cozumel – your gateway to the ancient world of the Mayans. To top it all off, a relaxing sailing along the Panama Canal leads you to your first port in vibrant South America.

CHICHÉN ITZÁ

Voted one of the seven New Wonders of the World, the Temple of Kukulkan, known as ‘El Castillo’, is located at the ancient archaeological site of Chichén Itzá, which can be visited on a tour from Cozumel. This mysteriously abandoned city extends over six square miles and is home to hundreds of legendary structures reminding the modern world of the Mayan Empire.

HAVANA, CUBA

The 'New Wonder City' of Havana is a feast for the eyes, with attractive historic architecture interspersed with the bright colours of classic American cars. Stroll around Habana Vieja – Old Havana – and soak up the Latin atmosphere, or hitch a ride in a classic car from the '50s for a memorable way to see the highlights. And as the sun sets, visit the world-famous Tropicana for an evening of colourful cabaret.

THE PANAMA CANAL

From the comfort of your ship admire the engineering achievements and sacrifices that built the Panama Canal. Passing through a system of three locks – the Gatún, Pedro Miguel and the Miraflores – Black Watch will sail serenely past open countryside and through the picturesque Gatún Lake. Regarded as one of the greatest feats of the 20th century, the Panama Canal is often referred to as a ‘wonder of the modern world’.

SOUTH AMERICA See a wealth of natural beauty, history and culture in this fascinating region. Manta, Ecuador is the first call that beckons you and is your gateway to the spellbinding Andes, charming Montecristi (home of the famous Panama Hat) and the astonishing Galápagos Islands. Heading south, the Peruvian capital awaits your discovery. With Black Watch docked in Callao overnight, you’ll have ample time to savour Lima’s Spanish-colonial structures, search for souvenirs at the bustling Indian Market and see rare Inca treasures at the Gold Museum. Or, perhaps, take an overland tour to the awe-inspiring site of Machu Picchu. In General San Martin you’ll be perfectly placed for boat tours to the untouched Ballestas Islands; considered a mini-Galapagos, they’ll present you with superb photo opportunities. Then, after sailing the Pacific Ocean to Easter Island, you’ll have the truly unmissable opportunity to bear witness to a fascinating collection of Moai statues.

MACHU PICCHU

Unearth the ancient city of Machu Picchu and learn of the Inca’s impressive achievements and astronomical knowledge on an overland tour from Callao. Lost to history until 1911, the ruins of this mysterious and spectacular site are hidden 2,400 metres above sea level, flanked by two rocky peaks and surrounded by jungle.

10

Machu Picchu

GALÁPAGOS ISLANDS

Step into Sir David Attenborough’s shoes on an extended tour from Manta and explore the open-air wildlife museum that is the Galápagos Islands. You’ll have plenty of chances to spot the extraordinary variety of endemic species, including giant land tortoises, Frigate Birds, Hammerhead Sharks, penguins and more.

MOAI STATUES

Discover the mysteries of Easter Island on a captivating Shore Tour from the capital, Hanga Roa. On this isolated, Chilean-owned island you’ll have the chance to see some of the world’s most interesting archaeological sites and a remarkable collection of Moai statues, some of which are thought to date back to 1460 AD.

ANDES TRAIN RIDE

Feel a true sense of adventure on this thrilling train ride as you zig-zag down one of the rocky slopes of the Andes, known as the Devil’s Nose. Descending over 2,600 feet, this incredible route – a skilful engineering achievement – can be experienced as part of an optional overland tour from Manta, returning into General San Martin.

11

NEW ZEALAND & THE SOUTH PACIFIC ISLANDS Venturing into the tropical waters of the South Pacific Ocean, you’ll sail by Pitcairn Island – the region’s last British Overseas Territory – before spending a full day in Tahiti. You can visit the unique Pearl Museum or take a Jeep adventure across dramatic landscapes, past tumbling waterfalls and exotic flora. The other-worldly setting in Bora Bora is sure to capture you, as are the knife-edged peaks, cloud forests and palm-fringed shores of Rarotonga – known for the indigenous Kakerori Bird. In laid-back Auckland you’ll be spoilt by the variety of things to see and do: get hands-on aboard an America’s Cup yacht or sit back and watch the sailing action; visit Hobbiton – the movie set for The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogies; or hop on a ferry to explore the vineyards of Waiheke Island. The following day, uncover the distinct natural beauty and historic significance of the Bay of Islands – an area named by the explorer Captain James Cook.

BORA BORA

Bora Bora’s picture-perfect scenery blends a mountainous interior with lush rainforest that spills out onto tropical shores. Bask on the glorious sandy beaches, marvel at the lagoon’s vivid shades of blue and green, or look out for Blacktip Sharks and graceful stingrays on a cruise to the coral reef that rings the island.

GLOWWORM CAVES

Hidden beneath Waitomo’s picturesque farmland and rolling hills is a network of caves that are home to the native glowworm. Making entry via an underground river, you’ll be amazed at the display of bioluminescence as you glide beneath, passing striking geological formations. This truly extraordinary experience can be enjoyed on a Shore Tour from Auckland.

THE BAY OF ISLANDS

The Bay of Islands is an area of natural and historic importance, home to the site where the Treaty of Waitangi was signed – the foundations on which modern-day New Zealand has been built. The gigantic Kauri Trees in a protected reserve are spectacular to see close up. There’s also the chance to paddle in a waka (traditional Maori canoe) and to look out for dolphins as you sail to the famed ‘hole in the rock’.

12

Bora Bora

13

AUSTRALIA Sydney is the first of Australia’s east coast highlights on this extraordinary voyage. With Black Watch docked overnight, there will be ample time for you to explore this special city; learn of Aboriginal legends in the stunning Blue Mountains; or go in search of wildlife in the Australian bush. After this, a river cruise is the perfect way to relax and soak up subtropical Brisbane. While you’re there, don’t miss the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, which is also home to kangaroos, wombats and Tasmanian devils. Continuing north, Hamilton Island will be your base for exploring the iconic Great Barrier Reef. A sailing around the exquisite Whitsunday Islands, or perhaps a spot of snorkelling, will give a glimpse into this multi-coloured underwater world. Take advantage of Black Watch’s open deck as you cruise this expansive eco-system, before calling into Darwin – a region that’s rich in indigenous culture and wildlife, including the famous jumping crocodiles.

SYDNEY

Set around a picturesque harbour, highlighted by its illustrious bridge and the iconic Opera House, Sydney has an awful lot to offer. Join the laid-back culture at one of the local beaches; discover The Rocks, the city's historic heart; cruise the harbour’s glistening waters; or climb the Harbour Bridge for exhilarating views. And as night falls, see the city lights trace Sydney’s distinguished skyline.

14

Sydney

BLUE MOUNTAINS

Just two hours out of Sydney, this World Heritage Area is a wonderland of waterfalls, sweeping forests and jagged pinnacles. The renowned blue haze is created by eucalyptus oils in the air. Standing at the clifftop lookouts, you’ll be presented with panoramic views – delve deeper via a walking trail or perhaps a scenic train ride.

GREAT BARRIER REEF

One of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, the Great Barrier Reef is so large it can even be seen from space. The crystal-clear waters are home to a remarkable ecosystem of colourful corals and marine life. Enjoy the views from the comfort of Black Watch as you sail serenely by or take a closer look while docked in Hamilton Island.

WHITEHAVEN BEACH A beautiful tropical beach with a difference. The changing tides along this pristine coastline create a spectacular vista. Wisps of brilliant-white sands swirl into the turquoise sea, blending into a spectrum of blue and green hues. Take a catamaran from Hamilton Island to uncover this scenic gem.

15

THE FAR EAST & INDIA Venturing to the exotic Far East you’ll find an excellent mix of history, cultural heritage and hi-tech, sitting comfortably side by side. Exhilarating tours to see the mysterious creatures on Komodo Island perfectly complement the captivating cities that you’ll see along the way too. In Singapore, the innovative Gardens by the Bay are a must-see, as is the Singapore Flyer, from where you can capture fantastic views of the city. Port Klang is your gateway to the 'New Wonder City' of Kuala Lumpur; make your way to the iconic Petronas Towers, as well as the striking 100m-high cavern of the Batu Caves – they’re filled with impressive Hindu shrines. Using Thilawa as your base, explore the treasures of Myanmar with an overland tour to the temple city of Bagan or journey into beautiful Yangon to see the glimmering, gold Shwedagon Pagoda. On reaching Cochin, snake your way through the jungle on a cruise of Kerala’s backwaters; then in Mumbai, browse for trinkets and treats in the bazaars. Alternatively, an overland tour between these two ports will give you the chance to visit the astounding Taj Mahal.

THE TAJ MAHAL

Built in 1632 by heartbroken emperor Shah Jahan after losing his wife in childbirth, the Taj Mahal is not only a monument of great architectural beauty, it’s also a testament to true love. The gleaming white marble, exquisite ornamentation and precious gemstones are the ultimate tribute. It’s easy to see why this was voted one of the seven New Wonders of the World.

16

Taj Mahal

KOMODO DRAGONS Like something out of the imagination, the Komodo dragon is armed with tough scaly skin, a large tail, serrated teeth, a long, forked tongue, and incredible size. Despite being able to run up to 11mph, it will patiently stalk wounded prey. You can witness this fascinating, endangered beast up close on a guided Shore Tour of Komodo Island.

GARDENS BY THE BAY

Singapore’s top attraction combines hi-tech innovation with environmental sustainability. Two vast domes, The Cloud Forest and Flower Dome, showcase plants from dry and tropical climates. Outside, the enormous ‘Supertrees’ are not only a sight to behold, they also generate solar energy and expel hot air from the domes.

BAGAN

Rising out of the area’s vast plains are thousands of sacred Buddhist temples – some dating back to the 11th century. The dusky mountains etched in the distance complete the awe-inspiring panorama of this important archaeological site. Fly from Yangon on an overland tour to see this amazing spectacle with your own eyes.

17

JORDAN & EGYPT Aqaba will be your starting point for tours to the world-famous ‘lost city’ of Petra, or you can see the breathtaking landscapes of Wadi Rum: known as ‘The Valley of the Moon’, desert scenes in Lawrence of Arabia were filmed here. For a memorable experience, savour a glass of champagne as you watch the colours of the landscape change during sunset. The beach resort of Sharm elSheikh provides a wonderful contrast to Aqaba’s dry vistas. This coastal oasis is the ideal place to relax, swim or snorkel the colourful coral reefs of the Red Sea, before re-joining Black Watch to journey along the Suez Canal. As you sail majestically along this impressive man-made waterway, crossing the Isthmus of Suez that divides the Mediterranean from the Red Sea, you’ll be cutting through the heart of the desert. When you reach the other side, a call into Alexandria offers the unmissable chance to visit the ancient pyramids of Giza.

THE GREAT PYRAMID OF GIZA

The only surviving Ancient Wonder of the World, the Great Pyramid of Giza has entranced and enraptured for centuries. Many theories surround how and why it was created – in around 2550 B.C – giving you plenty to ponder as you encounter this 450ft-high phenomenon. Available to see on a tour from Alexandria, there are also the Pyramids of Khafre and Menkaure nearby, and the magnificent Sphinx. All are equally mysterious.

PETRA

From Aqaba, visit the ancient Nabataean city of Petra – one of the seven New Wonders of the World – which lay forgotten by civilisation for almost 12 centuries. The iconic Siq is the entrance to a realm of elaborately chiselled architecture, including temples, burial chambers and the dramatic 3,000seat Roman Amphitheatre. The centrepiece is the unmistakable Khazneh (or Treasury); which played a starring role in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

THE RED SEA

Home to a host of rainbow-coloured marine life, the crystal clear waters of the Red Sea can be discovered on a tour from Sharm-el-Sheikh. With its magnificent array of fish and coral reef species, the protected Ras Mohamed Park is one of the world’s most renowned snorkelling spots. If you prefer to stay dry, you can still enjoy this dazzling underwater world on a glass bottom boat from Na’ama Bay.

THE MEDITERRANEAN Bathed in extensive history and diverse cultures, this region is overflowing with aesthetic pleasures. Leading the way is the picturesque resort of Kuşadasi, for traditional Turkish baths and tours to the ancient site of Ephesus. In Athens (from Piraeus) the plethora of ancient sites and the Plaka district’s honeycomb of streets, shops and tavernas will make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. After cruising the Strait of Messina, a call into Civitavecchia provides a gateway to Rome, where a seemingly endless list of inspirational sights includes the mighty Colosseum, the Roman Forum, the Pantheon, and St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican. From Livorno, visit the Tuscan city of Florence, with its Gothic palaces and exquisite cathedrals, or Pisa – famed for its Leaning Tower. In Malaga, see the Moorish Alcazaba Fortress, sample authentic tapas or head to glittering Marbella – the perfect conclusion to your epic adventure.

THE COLOSSEUM

From Civitavecchia you can visit Rome’s most fascinating sight. The largest of its kind ever built, the Flavian Amphitheatre was inaugurated in AD 80 by the Roman Emperor, Titus. Originally built for gladiator games and other public entertainment, it was only after the fall of the Roman Empire that the name ‘Colosseum’ was adopted.

20

Colosseum

EPHESUS

This awe-inspiring archaeological site can be visited from Kuşadasi. See the remaining fragments that were once part of the Temple of Artemis, one of the seven Ancient Wonders of the World. Wander the city’s marblepaved streets lined with historic ruins, such as the well-preserved Library of Celsus and Temple of Hadrian.

ATHENS

Piraeus is your gateway to this mystical city. Steeped in history, the skyline is dominated by the incredible 2,500 year-old Parthenon and that’s just the start as far as top landmarks are concerned. The Acropolis, the Panathenaic Stadium, the Corinth Canal and the Temples of Zeus and Poseidon are all high up on the ‘must-visit’ list.

ALHAMBRA PALACE

This exceptional palace-comecitadel lies at the foot of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The reddish-hued walls of its fortress guard a complex of rooms, pretty courtyards, fountains and terraces. Discover the Moorish architecture styles that have been added throughout the history of this unique location, on a tour from Malaga.
