EXPERIENCE
Pandaw is extremely proud of the high-level of service provided onboard, making sure you are looked after every step of the way. Local crew members always have a smile for you, whether you are returning from a shore excursion or ordering your favourite drink at the bar. Their friendly nature makes you feel at home and their local knowledge enhances any cruise.
A Pandaw river cruise is a real adventure that takes you off-thebeaten-track. Expect to explore remote villages, meet people in vibrant local communities (some of which seldom have contact with Western travellers) and see some unforgettable landscapes. These expeditions are all about immersing yourself in the unique and diverse cultures of South-East Asia and India. All scheduled shore excursions are included in the cruise fare and encompass tours under the guidance of local experts, market visits accompanied by the ship’s chef and the chance to visit some of the Pandaw Charity projects in the area. We provide authentic local transport in the form of horse and carts or cyclos. Our fleet of mountain bikes is also available for independent exploration. There are active walks and bike rides through the countryside and local villages, speedboat explorations penetrating deeper into the jungle and visits to heritage sites.
FOOD & DINING
At Pandaw we pride ourselves on offering a great choice of local cuisine and exotic foods.
The Pandaw dining rooms are designed to open up along the sides to allow cool breezes to waft through. Only at night we do close them up and turn on the air-conditioning. We know our passengers prefer fresh air to chilled air. The new Katha Pandaw, designed in response to feedback from our passengers, has no formal dining room but rather an open air dining space on deck.
Mealtimes offer the chance to sample some of the delicious local flavours found in the regions you are exploring. However, if you would rather stick to typical European offerings, these are available too. Wherever possible, sustainable ingredients are sourced from the ports visited to create delicious meals around the clock. Buffet breakfasts, buffet lunches with served elements and a la carte dinners are all included in the cruise fare – as is afternoon tea and a cocktail hour every evening.
FREE FLOWING DRINKS PACKAGE
Optional Cruise Add-On
Ask our team about upgrading to include the free flowing drinks package available on our vessels. This package includes most soft drinks and local mineral water, local spirits and beers (over 18's alcohol only). Or you can pay for your drinks on a consumption basis on board at the end of your cruise.

LIFE ONBOARD
Many passengers have described life on board a Pandaw vessel as more like being a guest on a private motor yacht, than a passenger on a conventional cruise ship. For a start, our itineraries and our quest for the most spectacular sights and experiences is far more intrepid than conventional cruises. And when passengers return to the ship after experiencing the wonders of life onshore, they are coming back to a floating oasis of low-key luxury, caring service and all the good things of life.
STATEROOMS
The Pandaw stateroom is the most celebrated feature of our ships, combining splendid colonial-era character with exquisite contemporary comfort.
Finished in brass and teak, the main and upper deck rooms are a spacious 168 square feet (15.6 sqm), with the exception of the Zawgyi Pandaw which is 150 square feet (14 sqm). As the space is much loved by all our passengers, we have ensured that with each ship we build, the stateroom remains essentially the same. Be advised: our cabins do not have mini-bars, satellite TV's, internet access or telephones. Passengers tend to choose Pandaw in order to escape from the tiresome features found in international business hotels.
Highlights of our staterooms are: Fruit and flowers on arrival | Kimonos and slippers Spa-branded amenities | Unlimited mineral water
OUR SHIPS
We have a variety of beautifully crafted modern Pandaw ships in operation that we built ourselves. Each ship, hand-finished in brass and teak by traditional craftsmen are objects of great beauty. Whilst luxury and comfort are ever-present, on our ships it is the colonial-era character and friendly atmosphere that predominate. All our ships are ultra-shallow drafts and can travel to remote areas, which are unreachable by larger passenger-carrying vessels, let alone overland.
K CLASS
Our fleet is modern and offers the latest in comfort and luxury, but based on classic designs. The original K-class dated back to the 1880s and were comprised of stern wheelers designed to reduce draft, their boilers placed in the bow to improve trim. Smaller than the great line steamers of the age, the K-class ships were used on the Chindwin and upper reaches of the Irrawaddy. Where possible we have reused the old IFC names and many of these original K-class ships had fascinating histories, through times of war and peace.
RV BASSAC PANDAW
P Class
RV Angkor Pandaw
P CLASS
RV Indochina Pandaw
Our modern fleet combines the latest amenities and luxurious comfort with authentic design. The original P class ships were built by Yarrows of Glasgow in the late 1940s to replace the ships of the old Irrawaddy Flotilla Company lost in the war. The design was based on earlier 1930s designs with side paddles and the addition of a flying bridge. All the ships had a name beginning with a P and one of these was the original Pandaw that we acquired in 1998 and lovingly restored. The P-class ships with their broad beam and shallow draft were all deployed on the Bhamo to Mandalay routing.
Sister to the Orient and Bassac, the IP was built in Vietnam in 2009 and transferred over to Burma in 2011. The ship has quality mountain bikes for your independent exploration.

Sister to the Katha and from the same yard delivered in 2013, the only difference with the Katha is an enclosed air conditioned dining room insisted on by an American charterer. Originally on the Mekong in 2015 we transferred her to the Red River in North Vietnam. In fact the enclosed dining room has proved useful as it can be cold up there in winter.

We ran her a year on the Mekong before sending to Burma. With only two decks these smaller K class ships have lower air draft so can get under bridges and supposedly a shallower draft , though in fact the Vietnam ship yards were not as successful in achieving this as the Burmese yards and later Burmese-built K class ships achieved remarkable reductions in draft
actually had the ship finished on time! Normally there are still sparks flying as the first passengers come on board.

The Katha general arrangement was radical in that we eliminated the formal indoor dining room. This led to great protests from regular passengers and indeed our staff. In the end all agree it is far more pleasant to eat outside than in a stuffy, noisy enclosed dining room and the bugs are really not that bad. Up river in Burma it can be a little cold in winter but currently we deploy this ship in Middle Burma where the cold is less of an issue.
RV Mekong Pandaw
Refitted for expedition sailings in India from September 2019, we have reduced the number of staterooms from sixteen to fourteen to create an enlarged indoor saloon / dining area as winter cruising in India can be chilly first thing. View images of RV Katha Pandaw

RV KATHA PANDAW
K Class
Built in Rangoon in 2002 she was sailed round to Saigon under her own power and many a drama described in Paul Strachan’s Pandaw Story. This ship was designed specially for the Mekong and unlike our other P class ships does not have a flying bridge. The reason was so she could get under a road bridge. She did actually scrape under on her maiden but it was so scary that Paul Strachan, then standing on the bridge, never dared attempt it again. As a result, we ended up with this incredible 750 square meter teak deck that even has a full size billiard table.

ACCOMMODATION
• 18 upper deck staterooms and 6 main deck staterooms
• 170 square feet, finished in teak and brass
• Panoramic French window, leading to personal deck space
Sister to the Kindat and identical in design the Kalaw was launched with her in 2014 Kalaw is named after the PS Kalaw launched in 1917 and sunk in 1942 in the War. Paul Strachan witnessed the salvaging of the Kalaw in 1998 and managed to acquire her name plate and bell, the former of which has been reused on her namesake. Again this ultra light ship combines one of the shallowest drafts on the river with one of the highest passenger space ratios afloat.
